>Pro-Antifa High School Teacher in To the Educators of the Sacramento City Teachers Association,
The Sacramento Party for Socialism and Liberation would like to extend our unconditional support for the teachers of the Sacramento City Unified School District during this strike.
The actions taken by the administration have clearly demonstrated an utter disregard for the quality of education that the students in our community receive. It is reprehensible and disgraceful that the administration would reject every demand the SCTA has made including lower classroom sizes, extending art and music programs, increasing the number of school nurses, psychologists and other professional support staff and maintaining a competitive pay scale for teachers all wile sitting on an unprecedented surplus.
It is clear just how much the administration values their educators when they are willing to pay their negotiation lawyer over $35,000 a month while increasing administrative staff by 41 percent. To add insult to injury, the administration is now offering daily scabs a rate double that of starting teachers in your district, while refusing a 4 percent increase in teachers’ salaries which still leaves SCUSD as one of the lowest paying districts despite being one of the largest in the state.
The Party for Socialism and Liberation is a national organization of working class activists and community members like yourselves. We salute your tireless efforts to make Sacramento a welcoming and safe environment for all of your students regardless of their race, cultural heritage, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, ability, or immigration status.
We know that the choice to strike is not an easy one to make, but history has shown that it is only when we take action together that we can shake the foundations of a system that puts profits over people. Your community stands with you, parents stand with you, students stand with you and the Party for Socialism and Liberation stands in solidarity with the Sacramento City Teachers Association!
