Some other points about fasting that are sometimes neglected: fasting tends to detoxify the body tissues. Not a bad side benefit.

And the mental discipline required also has many ancillary benefits. You train your will power. You overcome and gain mental control over one of the most basic of bodily desires.

It tends to sharpen your soul, purify not just your body, but your soul. It is not a coincidence that the legendary spiritual discipines all at one time or another utilize the practice fasting in some form.

If you can go days without smoking, then you can go weeks, too.

It is truly your own will power at that point.

And, if you can go weeks, then within that time, go for a day of fasting. Just don't eat, from sun up to sundown.

Make it a challenge: of your will power against your body's urges and animal/monkey brain.

One day. It hones your will power.

It sharpens your spirit.

LOL, I had a similar experience myself.

I had to "quit" probably three times in my life until it held.

But each time, when I started up again, I have to say, the cigarettes tasted less and less pleasurable. Hard to describe.

The final time, (so far?โ€ฆ) I bought a pack, lit one up, and it tasted literally like ashes to me. And I snuffed it out. Put the pack away, might have saved it for a month or two.

Haven't gone back since. Probably twenty years ago, 30 yearsโ€ฆ?

Occasionally I think of smoking again, but there is little power to the urge. Then I remember how expensive the dang things are now, and I say, NOPE!

Got far better things to spend money on!
