Quebec Orders All Health-Care Workers To Get Vaccinated Or Be Suspended Without Pay

The province of Quebec has become the latest local government (and the first in Canada) to decree that all nurses working in the province will need to get vaccinated by Oct. 15, or they will be suspended without pay, according to the province's health minister, Christian Dubé, who made the announcement on Tuesday.

The decision isn't exactly a surprise. Dubé and Quebec Premier François Legault have said in recent weeks that they intended to make vaccination mandatory for health-care workers, but they didn't specify a deadline or consequences for workers who didn't follow the mandate until Tuesday, when Dubé made the announcement during a provincial update.

For weeks, such events have been led by Dubé, accompanied by Public Health Director Dr. Horacio Arruda. But given the gravity of the announcement, Legault returned to lead the news conference himself for the first time in weeks.

Legault noted the number of hospitalizations in the province had climbed to 171 from 55 a month ago. And when asked which workers will be affected by the mandate, Dubé responded: "Everybody … 100 per cent of employees."

Vaccine passports will also be required for visitors to hospitals, he added.

It's not just nurses who will be affected: doctors, midwives, professionals in private clinics and volunteers will all need to be vaccinated before entering a hospital.

With COVID cases rising once again in the province, Legault said Tuesday that Quebec would need to reorganize its hospital system: "For a while, we're going to have to accept a certain amount of risk. We don't want another lockdown, so we're going to have to accept that there will be hospitalizations for COVID-19 for a while." "We are going to have to reorganize the health-care system."

One strategy is they are trying to convince people who have left the profession to return.

Others criticized the policy, saying they're not sure it's the right call.

Jeff Begley, head of the federation of health and social services union, said he wasn't surprised by the government's announcement, but he wasn't sure they had made the best decision.

"We're not sure that it's the best means going forward," he said.

Begley explained that most hospitals have eliminated their "hot" sections for COVID patients (since most people are vaccinated now). Begley believes this may have been a mistake, and that COVID patients must be quarantined in hospitals to avoid infecting others.

As of Tuesday, 87% of Quebecers have had at least one dose of the vaccine. Legault pleaded with those watching to try and convince at least one person who hasn't been vaccinated to get the jab.

Still, if the province is trying to improve its ability to deal with the pandemic, suspending nurses and doctors from their jobs without pay doesn't seem like the best way to go.

Documents Show Fauci-Funded Wuhan Lab Created Novel Coronavirus with ‘Enhanced Pathogenicity’ for Humans

Newly released U.S. government documents show that Dr. Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) provided funding for the gain-of-function research conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) that created novel coronaviruses with the ability to infect humans, and one previously undisclosed SARS-related coronavirus engineered at the Wuhan lab was reportedly demonstrated to be more pathogenic to humans than the virus from which it was originally constructed.

The 900 pages of documents – obtained by The Intercept through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit – prove that Fauci’s NIAID provided funding to EcoHealth Alliance, which in turn funded the controversial gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab that created novel coronaviruses that could infect humans.

The Intercept’s report on the documents quotes Richard Ebright, a molecular biologist at Rutgers University, who said that the viruses the Wuhan lab constructed “were tested for their ability to infect mice that were engineered to display human type receptors on their cell.” And these viruses included both SARS-related and MERS-related coronaviruses.

Ebright later posted an eight-part thread on Twitter explaining in greater detail the document’s revelations concerning the “enhanced pathogenicity” of one of the “novel, laboratory-generated SARS-related coronaviruses” created by the Wuhan lab. He noted that this particular Wuhan lab-generated SARS-related coronavirus had not been “previously disclosed publicly” and that it was found to be “more pathogenic” to humans than “the starting virus from which it was constructed.”

Ebright’s Twitter thread reads:

The materials show that the 2014 and 2019 NIH grants to EcoHealth with subcontracts to WIV funded gain-of-function research as defined in federal policies in effect in 2014-2017 and potential pandemic pathogen enhancement as defined in federal policies in effect in 2017-present.

(This had been evident previously from published research papers that credited the 2014 grant and from the publicly available summary of the 2019 grant. But this now can be stated definitively from progress reports of the 2014 grant and the full proposal of the 2017 grant.)

The materials confirm the grants supported the construction–in Wuhan–of novel chimeric SARS-related coronaviruses that combined a spike gene from one coronavirus with genetic information from another coronavirus, and confirmed the resulting viruses could infect human cells.

The materials reveal that the resulting novel, laboratory-generated SARS-related coronaviruses also could infect mice engineered to display human receptors on cells (“humanized mice”).

The materials further reveal for the first time that one of the resulting novel, laboratory-generated SARS-related coronaviruses–one not been previously disclosed publicly–was more pathogenic to humanized mice than the starting virus from which it was constructed…

…and thus not only was reasonably anticipated to exhibit enhanced pathogenicity, but, indeed, was demonstrated to exhibit enhanced pathogenicity.

The materials further reveal that the the grants also supported the construction–in Wuhan–of novel chimeric MERS-related coronaviruses that combined spike genes from one MERS-related coronavirus with genetic information from another MERS-related coronavirus.

Ebright concluded his thread by stating: “The documents make it clear that assertions by the NIH Director, Francis Collins, and the NIAID Director, Anthony Fauci, that the NIH did not support gain-of-function research or potential pandemic pathogen enhancement at WIV are untruthful.”

As The Intercept’s article noted, “The closest relative of SARS-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19, is a virus found in bats, making the animals a focal point for efforts to understand the origins of the pandemic. Exactly how the virus jumped to humans is the subject of heated debate.”

Thus, the fact that these documents reveal the existence of a previously undisclosed “novel, laboratory-generated SARS-related” coronavirus with “enhanced pathogenicity” to infect humans should be a matter of intense interest to anyone searching for the potential origins of Covid-19.

Silicon Valley investor steps down from company's board after calling Black Lives Matter the 'true racists' who push socialism

A Silicon Valley investor was fired from the board of one of the world's largest apparels companies after she said that she didn't believe in Black Lives Matter because they were the "true racists" pushing socialism on America.

The private email containing the comments from Veronica Wu was obtained by Axios.

Wu was responding to an email in 2020 from an officer manager inquiring about whether a company would celebrate Juneteenth, the holiday celebrating when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston, Texas. He went on to explain that it was a part of the focus on the Black Lives Matter movement.

Wu responded by saying she didn't support Black Lives Matter.

"This is where I am particularly not supportive. I have lived in the country as a minority and women [sic] for all my life. I have not experience much racism or discrimination as a minority or female. By and large, I was able to get opportunities to compete as fairly as I think," read the email.

"I truly believe this country by and large is not a racist country. Not to say there are not people who might be (there might be minority and some extremists), but it is by far not the biggest problem this country is facing," she continued.

"I don't believe in Black Lives Matter. If anything I think they are the true racists trying to stir up things to make this country going [sic] to socialism or even communism potentially," Wu continued later on in the email.

"That would be truly sad. I am a patriot. I appreciate all this country has given me, and believe it is a place where meritocracy thrive which is why it is such a great country. I don't appreciate those who try to weaken it by undermining the meritocracy principles and try to stick to some race quota," she explained.

On Tuesday, VF Corporation said in a statement that Wu had stepped down from its board.

"Wu's decision to step down from the Board was not the result of any disagreement with VF on any matter relating to VF's operations, policies or practices," said the company.

VF Corporation owns many apparel brands including Vans, North Face, and Timberland.

NSW path to freedom revealed as 1405 new COVID-19 cases recorded

The New South Wales government has revealed Greater Sydney's path out of lockdown for those who are fully vaccinated, with some regional areas to be released from stay-at-home orders from Saturday.

Stay-at-home orders for adults who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be lifted from the Monday after NSW passes the 70 per cent double vaccination target, under the roadmap to freedom released today.

Only fully vaccinated people and those with medical exemptions will have access to the freedoms, while workers at re-opened venues will need to be vaccinated.

The announcement comes as the state recorded 1405 new cases and five additional deaths in the last 24 hours.

Here's a quick summary on the freedoms for fully vaccinated people once NSW reaches the 70 per cent double-dose milestone:

Gatherings in the home and public spaces:

Up to five visitors will be allowed in a home where all adults are vaccinated (not including children 12 and under)

Up to 20 people can gather in outdoor settings.

Venues including hospitality, retail stores and gyms:

Hospitality venues can reopen subject to one person per four-square-metre rule inside and one person per two- square-metres outside, with standing while drinking permitted outside

Retail stores can reopen under the one person per four-square-metre rule (unvaccinated people will continue to only be able to access critical retail)

Personal services such as hairdressers and nail salons can open with one person per four-square-metres, capped at five clients per premises

Gyms and indoor recreation facilities can open under the one person per four-square-metre rule and can offer classes for up to 20 people

Sporting facilities including swimming pools can reopen

Stadiums, theatres and major outdoor recreation facilities:

Major recreation outdoor facilities including stadiums, racecourses, theme parks and zoos can reopen with one person per four-square-metres, capped at 5000 people

Up to 500 people can attend ticketed and seated outdoor events

Indoor entertainment and information facilities including cinemas, theatres, music halls, museums and galleries can reopen with one person per four-square-metres or 75 per cent fixed seated capacity

Weddings, funerals and places of worship:

Up to 50 guests can attend weddings, with dancing permitted and eating and drinking only while seated

Up to 50 guests can attend funerals, with eating and drinking while seated

Churches and places of worship to open subject to one person per four-square-metre rule, with no singing

Travel:

Domestic travel, including trips to regional NSW, will be permitted

Caravan parks and camping grounds can open

Freedom still hinges on two things

Chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant is pinning her hope on the community as NSW works to drop Covid rates and increase vaccination coverage.

Dr Chant avoided questions from journalists questioning if the state would delay easing restrictions if the R effective transmission rate was still not below one when 70 per cent of NSW is double dose vaccinated.

“This is all in everyone's hands. Please don't lose sight of the fact that for the next four weeks we need to redouble our efforts and get vaccinated,” she said.

“There's still too many people in vulnerable groups that are not, in terms of medical co-morbidities, people over 50 and people over 70, that are still not vaccinated.

“We still haven't got high enough two-dose vaccine coverage for some of those groups. And we've now got access to vaccine for the younger ones.

“I have to say, the uptake in the age groups that have just recently had access to the vaccine is so reassuring to me. Because I think that young people are acting so responsibly in terms of protecting themselves but protecting their loved ones.”

A training document provided to freshmen orientation leaders at Iowa State University tells them that the world is racist and also provided information on who the most oppressive and privileged people are.

Furthermore, it’s not just the United States that is a bastion of racism and privilege, according to the public university, it is the entire world.

“Our world has been ordered and structured on the basis of skin color and that oppressive ordering and structuring is RACISM,” the handout said.

A university spokesperson told The College Fix it was available for use by orientation leaders.

“The information on privilege was included in a section of optional additional resources for Destination Iowa State team leaders,” spokesperson Angie Hunt told The Fix via email. “It was not a required or mandatory part of the training for team leaders, and was not used in the orientation programing for Destination Iowa State participants.”

Hunt said that team leaders could use it in their preparation.

Training for Destination Iowa State focuses on team leadership and program logistics to prepare team leaders to welcome new students and help them transition to Cyclone life,” Hunt said. “Organizers provide several resources to help students engage on these topics, which are regularly reviewed and updated.”

Topics include straight white men being privileged

Destination Iowa State team leaders who utilized the resource would learn that white people, Christians, men and heterosexuals number among the most privileged.

Australian CSIRO develops promising graphene-based water filtration membrane

Scientists from the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) have used their own type of graphene called "GraphAir" to develop a water filter membrane that is reportedly capable of making water from Sydney Harbor drinkable.

The membrane makes water purification simpler, more effective and quicker, say CSIRO scientists. “Conventional water filter membranes used in water purification​ are made from polymers (plastics) and cannot handle a diverse mix of contaminants, they clog or allow contaminants to pass through, so they have to be separated out before the water is filtered”, they said. “This technology can create clean drinking water, regardless of how dirty it is, in a single step.”

CSIRO developed the graphene membrane and placed it over a regular commercial-grade water filtering membrane. Tests using water samples from Sydney Harbor showed that without Graphair the filtration rate halved in 72 hours, as contaminants clogged the filter’s membrane. After the Graphair was added, scientists say the filter did not clog, more contaminants were filtered and the water was determined safe to drink.

In addition to its effective filtration capabilities, Graphair is cheaper, faster and more environmentally friendly to produce than other graphene as it is made from soybean oil, which is most often found in vegetable oil.

CSIRO is hoping to begin field trials in a developing-world community next year after researchers from QUT, the University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney, and Victoria University confirmed Graphair's water purification qualities. The team also hopes the technology can be developed for use as a home or even a town’s water supply filtering system.

US spy agencies collaborated with Ukraine to commit ‘state terror’ & ensnare Russian citizens, Moscow’s FSB security officials say

A shadowy plan to capture more than two dozen Russian citizens and extradite them to face trial for alleged war crimes was hatched jointly by Ukrainian and American special services, Moscow’s top security agency has concluded.

In a report published on Tuesday, three of Kiev’s former intelligence officers allegedly told CNN that an elaborate sting operation had been put in place last year to lure 33 Russians out of the country and put them on trial in Ukraine. According to the purported ex-spooks, the Ukrainian-led operation got US cash, technical assistance, and advice from the CIA on how to draw the Russian mercenaries in.

A spokesman for the FSB told reporters on Wednesday that “we can fully confirm this information published by CNN – it is absolutely reliable. They have very objectively shown the role played by the CIA.”

The men are said to have been offered lucrative security work in Venezuela by a non-existent private military company, serving as a front for Ukraine’s SBU spy service. The original plan had been to book them onto a plane to Istanbul, before having a fellow passenger feign illness and force the airliner to land in Ukraine, CNN reports. There they would be arrested and tried for purportedly participating in the bloody Donbass civil war alongside forces loyal to the region’s two self-declared breakaway republics.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic shut down most flight paths, and the would-be contractors were sent to Belarus instead, where authorities arrested them after receiving intelligence they were planning to rig the country’s upcoming elections. They were later released after a call between Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

The FSB spokesman went on to say that the move had been designed to “sever Russian-Belarusian relations… the whole operation was planned exclusively for this. And if, of course, it succeeded, then the blow to our relations with Minsk would be dealt a very heavy one, and a lot of time would have to be spent to untangle and improve relations.”

Both Ukraine and the US have denied involvement in the incident, with one official in Washington apparently telling CNN that “efforts to implicate US agencies may [have been] an attempt to share, or even pass, blame for what was a high-risk Ukrainian operation that went wrong.”

According to the FSB source, “Ukrainian authorities aren’t interested in carrying out an objective investigation of this whole situation because, if they did, all these facts… indicated that Ukraine is carrying out acts of state terrorism with the help of its special services. This is an accusation that could be brought before an international criminal court, and there is no way to overlook this.”

“Everybody did it”: wealthy doctors lobbies ride JobKeeper gravy train

JobKeeper for dentists? Fair enough. But more public subsidies for doctors’ lobby groups who enjoyed rising surpluses or hardly suffered a downturn? Callum Foote reports on Australia’s Medical Colleges refusing to pay back the millions in JobKeeper payments.

Australia’s Specialist Medical Colleges already rake in enormous government funding. The bulk of college revenue comes from doctors’ membership fees and doctors continued to pay them during the pandemic, people continued to “visit the doctor”. Then there is the enormous system subsidy, some $24 billion spent by Medicare annually.

On top, there is the cherished tax status of these wealthy colleges – such as the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) and the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) – and further state and federal government subsidies on top of that; money given to the colleges directly.

Many doctors were hit by the pandemic individually, particularly the wealthier doctors, but not their lobby groups and professional associations.

Diagnosis: greedy

When asked by Michael West Media why they took JobKeeper when they did not suffer the requisite fall in income to deserve it, a general refrain from medical lobby groups was that everybody was taking it. The “others were taking it too” explanation reflects exactly the rationale expressed in corporate Australia, a rationale which led to the largest transfer of wealth in history from ordinary Australians to wealthy Australians.

Although many of their members, working doctors, were appalled at the cash grab, many “royal colleges” did not to bother to respond at all.

The Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) pulled in the most in JobKeeper at up to $4.9 million in 2020. The college’s JobKeeper haul contributed to a $3.8 million surplus that same year.

RACP refused to engage with questions put to them by Michael West Media as to whether the college would consider repaying the subsidy.

After RACP, the three highest JobKeeper earners were the Royal Australian College of Surgeons at $4.4 million, the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners at $3.7 million and the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) at $3.4 million. Each of which made millions in surplus.

ANZCA is a standout, having grown its surplus from $310,000 in 2019 to $6.3 million in 2020 with the aid of its JobKeeper take. Many anaesthetists themselves have queried the legitimacy of their college’s JobKeeper earnings.

A member of ANZCA asked the College’s leadership in an Annual General Meeting whether the $4.4 million would be paid back now that “the dust has settled”. The response at the time was that the College would be doing what other similar organisations were doing.

The ANZCA has since confirmed that they would not be repaying their JobKeeper, with a spokesperson saying “the College’s 2020 financial position was due largely to a temporary reduction in operating expenditure with many costs deferred, and increased returns on investment income.”

So much for leadership

If the Anaesthetists were waiting for leadership from their fellow Colleges, or from similar bodies such as the Australian Medical Association (AMA), they would be waiting a while.

An AMA spokesperson responded to questions put to them by Michael West Media by saying, “JobKeeper’s role in other organisations is a matter for them.”

Of the 25 specialist colleges operating in Australasia, only the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, have informed Michael West Media they did not apply for nor receive JobKeeper. Just as well, the pathologists were very busy.

No college came forward to return its JobKeeper take and many refused to respond to questions put to them.

While lockdowns did significantly affect the income of Australian doctors, according to the ANZ–Melbourne Institute Health Sector Report it is not clear that this extended to the colleges themselves.
