Most restaurant owners say business conditions have declined in recent months

Most restaurant owners say that business conditions have declined in recent months, according to a survey from the National Restaurant Association (NRA) released Wednesday.

According to the survey of over 4,000 restaurant operators, 58 percent said that business conditions for their restaurants are worse now than they were three months ago. Only nine percent said that conditions improved during that time.

Looking in the future, 44 percent said that it would be more than a year before business conditions return to normal for their restaurant, while 23 percent said it would be seven to 12 months. An additional 19 percent said business conditions would never return to normal.

Jobless claims rise for third straight week after 6.2M lose federal benefits

New applications for jobless benefits rose for the third consecutive week after the expiration of federal pandemic unemployment aid earlier this month, according to data released Thursday by the Labor Department.

Seasonally adjusted initial claims for unemployment insurance totaled 362,000 in the week ending Sept. 25, a gain of 11,000 applications from the previous week’s total of 351,000.

Claims fell slightly without seasonal adjustments, declining to 298,255 before the Labor Department factored in an expected decline of 18,940 applications.

The persistent rise of jobless claims, which are volatile and subject to state processing errors, over September could signal lingering trouble for the labor market following the start of the delta variant surge in late July.

The steep increase in COVID-19 cases driven by the variant walloped the labor market and consumer confidence in August. Employment growth fell from a gain of more than 1 million new jobs in July to just 235,000 last month, with sectors hit hardest by the onset of the pandemic seeing almost no improvement.

If Democrats are able to piece together their huge tax hikes, called by another name, it will mean an additional 40 Republican seats in the House and at least a few additional Republican Senators in the U.S. Senate.

Dozens of state troopers to resign, instead of facing disciplinary actions over recent mandate

From September 27, 2021

Dozens of state troopers have submitted resignation papers in unity against the Massachusetts COVID vaccine mandate, reports the State Police Association of Massachusetts (SPAM) union.

The Massachusetts mandate requires executive department employees to be vaccinated by October 17 or face consequences. About 80% of the troopers are already vaccinated, but 20% are at risk of losing their jobs if they don’t provide proof of their vaccination status by the October deadline, WBZ-TV reported. It’s unclear what other disciplinary action could be a result, but an August press release suggests it could lead to termination.

Michael Cherven, SPAM president, suggested in a statement some troopers wanted to be assigned to different departments that provided more relaxed alternatives than a vaccine. Those alternatives could be more use of the mask and regularly scheduled testing, but it appears that wasn’t going to be an option for those who handed in resignation papers.

Alan Dershowitz calls Dems’ new bill dangerous to Israel; ‘a lie – a blood libel’

Harvard law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz criticized a piece of legislation offered by a Democrat that would declare the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem “occupied territory,” which he says is highly detrimental to Israel.

In a column for The Gatestone Institute, Dershowitz began by praising Congress for “overwhelmingly” beating back a measure offered up “by eight radical Democrats and one Republican” to strip funding from Israel’s highly effective Iron Dome missile defense system, but went on to note that a number of “‘mainstream’ Democrats” have since proposed a bill “that is equally dangerous and filled with half-truths, omissions and outright fabrications.”

The law professor cited a bill introduced by Rep. Andy Levin (D-Mich.), which he said furthers the so-called “two-state solution” as a means of finally resolving the Israel-Palestinian conflict. And while Dershowitz said he favors that idea, the bill, he believes, is “ill-conceived, because it would destroy any prospect for peace, would reward and encourage terrorism and disincentivize Palestinian leaders from negotiating with Israel.”

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes goes on ALL CAPS alarmist rant after Manchin rejects massive spending bill

MSNBC host Chris Hayes wasted no time taking to social media to rail against the rejection of a massive spending package backed by President Joe Biden and most members of his party after a key Democratic senator announced Wednesday he could not support it.

In a statement, Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia said he won’t agree to “spending trillions more” on social welfare and other programs he believes will be funded in perpetuity as part of a $3.5 trillion layout that contains a tsunami of left-wing priorities.

“While I am hopeful that common ground can be found that would result in another historic investment in our nation, I cannot – and will not – support trillions in spending or an all or nothing approach that ignores the brutal fiscal reality our nation faces,” Manchin said.
