Dept of Commerce Conducted Illegal Investigations

Anons,

Grassley released some interesting letters recently; a couple of them relate to the Dept. of Commerce's "Threat Management Service" (ITMS):

It turns out that they were briefing the FBI "'regarding ongoing cybersecurity concerns and potential investigative cases' with respect to the 2020 Census," and the FBI was "passively receiving" criminal referrals from them. There are several big problems with this: most importantly, they had no authority to do so in the first place. It's also ridiculous that the FBI would accept their authority. You can find a more detailed examination here:

They had some pretty serious access:

>At the time of the OIG review, there were a total of 13 ITMS personnel, and they held Top Secret/SCI level clearances. When the review began, the entity had 1,945 open cases, of which over a third had no activity since 2017 or earlier.

As a result, that part of the Dept of Commerce has been eliminated, with their few relevant duties spread elsewhere.

This is, of course, related to the election in that the Census gives an idea of how many voters one might expect. Remember that the DS fought POTUS tooth and nail over the addition of some simple questions. They also fought his Presidential Advisory Committee on Election Integrity when they asked for voter registration data from the states. Obviously they intended to steal the 2020 election, and the ITMS guys were a part of that effort.

I guess this was released in May:

Commerce Department security unit evolved into counterintelligence-like operation, Washington Post examination found

>The Investigations and Threat Management Service (ITMS) covertly searched employees’ offices at night, ran broad keyword searches of their emails trying to surface signs of foreign influence and scoured Americans’ social media for critical comments about the census, according to documents and interviews with five former investigators.

>In one instance, the unit opened a case on a 68-year-old retiree in Florida who tweeted that the census, which is run by the Commerce Department, would be manipulated “to benefit the Trump Party!” records show.

This would be like having the clerk at your local DMV show up at your house and conduct a search warrant because you registered Republican–it's not even conceivably allowed.
