Katie Couric slammed after editing Ruth Bader Ginsburg's comments about athletes 'taking the knee'
In her yet-to-be-released memoir "Going There," Ms Couric admitted to editing comments made by Justice Ginsburg that were critical of athletes 'taking the knee' during the American national anthem.
'Taking the knee' as a symbol of protest against police brutality was popularised by NFL athlete Colin Kaepernick in 2016.
During the interview which was published in the same year, Justice Ginsburg called kneeling during the anthem "dumb and disrespectful."
In unpublished remarks made during the same interview, Justice Ginsburg went on to say taking the knee shows "contempt for a government that has made it possible for their parents and grandparents to live a decent life."
In her memoir, Ms Couric admitted she edited some of Justice Ginsburg's comments, writing they were "unworthy of a crusader for equality."
