Dozens of parents sue 145 Illinois schools over COVID quarantine, mask mandates

The suit seeks declaratory judgment and injunctions against the schools, saying it’s unlawful to exclude students from school for allegedly being in close contact with COVID-19 case.

Parents of dozens of students are suing 145 Illinois school districts, Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois State Board of Education over COVID-19 orders affecting school children.

The case filed in Macoupin County by attorney Thomas DeVore seeks declaratory judgment and injunctions against the schools, saying it’s unlawful to exclude students from school for allegedly being in close contact with a COVID-19 case without the consent of the parent or a court order that includes due process.

It also says it’s unlawful to require masks as a type of treatment without parental consent or a quarantine order from the courts.

Neither Pritzker’s office, nor the ISBE, immediately returned messages seeking comment.

The districts sued in the case range from Antioch Consolidated School District to Porta, to Jacksonville and more.

Shannon Adcock, the founder of parents' rights group Awake Illinois is one of the many plaintiffs in the case. Her children attend Indian Prairie School District #204.

“As a mother of 3 healthy children who have been forcibly masked and quarantined from school, my advocacy has always been in support of parental rights and the protections under the law,” Adcock said in a statement on behalf of herself. “Parents have advocated with grace and integrity at every level and have been met with total silence. After over a year and a half of government overreach, we are prepared to take the litigious route in an effort to provide the offramp from nefarious policy-making by our governor, state agencies, and the school districts who are failing the constituency.”

“I am grateful to each plaintiff for having the courage of conviction to advocate for Illinois children,” Adcock said.

DeVore has secured temporary restraining orders against schools over such issues in smaller cases involving groups of children or entire school districts.

Illinois lawmakers consider bill to allow inmates to vote from prison

Legislation would make Illinois the third state in the nation to allow convicted felons behind bars to vote in elections.

An Illinois state lawmaker says his bill to allow convicted felons behind bars to vote absentee in elections will pass the House. A state Senator doesn’t see it happening.

State Rep. LaShawn Ford, D-Chicago, said his amendment to House Bill 828 would make Illinois the third state in the nation to allow convicted felons behind bars to vote in elections. That includes convicted murderers, Ford said.

“It means that anyone that’s incarcerated in one of our prisons in our state will have the ability to cast their ballot,” Ford told WMAY.

If the measure becomes law, the prisoner would cast an absentee ballot for the jurisdiction of their home address.

“Our goal is to not make people worse when they go into our prisons, it is to make them better and return them back as better citizens, and this is one step towards that,” Ford said.

State Sen. Terri Bryant, R-Murphysboro, has a background in corrections. She said giving prison inmates the ability to vote is a terrible idea. And, not just for giving a right to people whose rights are taken away for criminal convictions. She said it has the potential for a gang chief to influence other inmates.

“Not influence them in the way where we do commercials or you do mailers, but someone who basically says you’re going to vote this way or I’m going to beat you,” Bryant said. “Very, very dangerous.”

Ford said he has the votes to get it out of the House.

Bryant doubts that, especially if the public is aware of the bill.

“People ask me all the time ‘you’re in a super-duper minority, what are you going to do about anything,’ and I tell them ‘we expose,’” Bryant said. “That’s all I can do right now is expose all of this stuff that individuals are trying to do. This should be another one that we should be making sure that our folks at home know how bad an idea this is.”

The measure is in the Rules Committee, but could be pushed out to a substantive committee during the remaining days of the veto session.

8 missing endangered children recovered, 18 sex offenders arrested in recent U.S. Marshals operations

NEW ORLEANS, La. (Gray News) – Several agencies worked together to recover eight children considered missing or endangered and arrest 18 sex offenders for registration violations as part of two U.S. Marshals Service operations.

Operations “Return of the School Year” and “NO Saints and Sinners 2021″ ran in the New Orleans area from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30.

While the U.S. Marshals Service was able to help eight missing children, they say an additional three returned home on their own during the operation and three more were located.

Investigations with the Missing Child Unit led to recoveries in Phoenix, Arizona, where a teenage girl was on her way to Las Vegas to meet up with an older man she met on the internet.

Two other recoveries were made in a rural area of southern Mississippi, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The two-month operation also uncovered allegations of human sex trafficking of minors during several of the cases.

The Sex Offender Investigations Branch arrested 18 people during operation “NO Saints and Sinners 2021,” six of whom were fugitives.

One of the men arrested was wanted by police for sexual battery on a 7-year-old, while another man was wanted for producing child porn of a teenage victim related to a prior Missing Child Unit case.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, another suspect was recently identified via a DNA hit for aggravated rape and kidnapping from 1989.

Another one of the men arrested as part of the operation was found hiding in a bedroom before being taken into custody.

“This was another example of the results that can be accomplished with continuing law enforcement teamwork,” said U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Louisiana Scott Illing. “Much of this work was also accomplished while dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Ida in the New Orleans metro area.”

Anti-vaxxers spray infamous Nazi slogan on roadsides, stoking fury from Jewish Australians

Anti-vaxxers in Melbourne have stoked fury by spraying messages that liken Australia’s Covid-19 vaccination to one of humanity’s darkest moments.

Sickening anti-vax graffiti that compares Australia’s Covid-19 vaccination rollout to WWII Nazi death camps have appeared in Melbourne today – stoking fury from the Jewish community.

Two separate messages, sprayed onto roadsides at Punt Rd and Olympic Blvd, read “Vax Macht Frei” in German.

It is play on the infamous motto “Arbeit Macht Frei” that greeted Jewish prisoners as they made their way through the entrance of Auschwitz, Dachau and other Nazi concentration camps.

ranslated it means “work sets you free” and it served as a slap in the face to prisoners who were forced into daily labour in the camps and which millions would never leave alive.

The graffiti has stirred up anger in the Jewish community, which has seen an increasing number of Holocaust references being used by anti-vax protesters across the nation.

Dvir Abramovich, chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission, told news.com.au the messages in Melbourne today are an “affront to the memory of the victims and survivors” of the Holocaust.

“To exploit the slogan used by the Nazis at the entrance of Auschwitz, the site of the largest mass murder in history, where 1.1 million men, women and children were systemically annihilated on an unfathomable scale, is indefensible and cruel,” he said.
