The suit seeks declaratory judgment and injunctions against the schools, saying it’s unlawful to exclude students from school for allegedly being in close contact with COVID-19 case.

 

Parents of dozens of students are suing 145 Illinois school districts, Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois State Board of Education over COVID-19 orders affecting school children.

 

The case filed in Macoupin County by attorney Thomas DeVore seeks declaratory judgment and injunctions against the schools, saying it’s unlawful to exclude students from school for allegedly being in close contact with a COVID-19 case without the consent of the parent or a court order that includes due process.

 

It also says it’s unlawful to require masks as a type of treatment without parental consent or a quarantine order from the courts.

 

Neither Pritzker’s office, nor the ISBE, immediately returned messages seeking comment.

 

The districts sued in the case range from Antioch Consolidated School District to Porta, to Jacksonville and more.

 

Shannon Adcock, the founder of parents' rights group Awake Illinois is one of the many plaintiffs in the case. Her children attend Indian Prairie School District #204.

An Illinois state lawmaker says his bill to allow convicted felons behind bars to vote absentee in elections will pass the House. A state Senator doesn’t see it happening.

 

State Rep. LaShawn Ford, D-Chicago, said his amendment to House Bill 828 would make Illinois the third state in the nation to allow convicted felons behind bars to vote in elections. That includes convicted murderers, Ford said.

 

β€œIt means that anyone that’s incarcerated in one of our prisons in our state will have the ability to cast their ballot,” Ford told WMAY.

 

If the measure becomes law, the prisoner would cast an absentee ballot for the jurisdiction of their home address.

 

β€œOur goal is to not make people worse when they go into our prisons, it is to make them better and return them back as better citizens, and this is one step towards that,” Ford said.

 

State Sen. Terri Bryant, R-Murphysboro, has a background in corrections. She said giving prison inmates the ability to vote is a terrible idea. And, not just for giving a right to people whose rights are taken away for criminal convictions. She said it has the potential for a gang chief to influence other inmates.

 

β€œNot influence them in the way where we do commercials or you do mailers, but someone who basically says you’re going to vote this way or I’m going to beat you,” Bryant said. β€œVery, very dangerous.”

 

Ford said he has the votes to get it out of the House.

 

Bryant doubts that, especially if the public is aware of the bill.

 

β€œPeople ask me all the time β€˜you’re in a super-duper minority, what are you going to do about anything,’ and I tell them β€˜we expose,’” Bryant said. β€œThat’s all I can do right now is expose all of this stuff that individuals are trying to do. This should be another one that we should be making sure that our folks at home know how bad an idea this is.”

 

The measure is in the Rules Committee, but could be pushed out to a substantive committee during the remaining days of the veto session.

NEW ORLEANS, La. (Gray News) – Several agencies worked together to recover eight children considered missing or endangered and arrest 18 sex offenders for registration violations as part of two U.S. Marshals Service operations.

 

Operations β€œReturn of the School Year” and β€œNO Saints and Sinners 2021β€³ ran in the New Orleans area from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30.

 

While the U.S. Marshals Service was able to help eight missing children, they say an additional three returned home on their own during the operation and three more were located.

 

Investigations with the Missing Child Unit led to recoveries in Phoenix, Arizona, where a teenage girl was on her way to Las Vegas to meet up with an older man she met on the internet.

 

Two other recoveries were made in a rural area of southern Mississippi, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

 

The two-month operation also uncovered allegations of human sex trafficking of minors during several of the cases.

 

The Sex Offender Investigations Branch arrested 18 people during operation β€œNO Saints and Sinners 2021,” six of whom were fugitives.

 

One of the men arrested was wanted by police for sexual battery on a 7-year-old, while another man was wanted for producing child porn of a teenage victim related to a prior Missing Child Unit case.

 

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, another suspect was recently identified via a DNA hit for aggravated rape and kidnapping from 1989.

 

Another one of the men arrested as part of the operation was found hiding in a bedroom before being taken into custody.

An attorney for Buck wrote in the motion for acquittal that the two men, Gemmel Moore and Timothy Dean, suffered multiple underlying medical conditions that caused their deaths, not the methamphetamine they ingested, the document filed Tuesday contends.

 

"There is no interpretation of the evidence that overcomes reasonable doubt," defense attorney Ludlow Creary wrote.

 

After just 4 1/2 hours of deliberations on July 27 the four-year anniversary of Moore's death a federal jury in downtown Los Angeles found Buck guilty of the nine felony counts he faced.

 

Buck, the former WeHo political player who donated more than $500,000 to mostly Democratic causes and served in 2016 as one of California's electoral college members was convicted of two counts of distribution of controlled substances resulting in death, stemming from the deaths of Moore in July 2017 and Dean in January 2019. Those charges both carry 20-year mandatory minimums.

 

Buck was also convicted of enticing Moore and another man to travel to Los Angeles to engage in prostitution; knowingly and intentionally distributing methamphetamine; and using his West Hollywood apartment for the purpose of distributing narcotics such as methamphetamine, and the sedatives gamma hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) and clonazepam.

 

U.S. District Judge Christina Snyder did not immediately set a sentencing date.

 

Prosecutors alleged that Buck caused the deaths as a result of his "fetish" for injecting men with increasing doses of methamphetamine until they became comatose. The defense countered that the victims suffered from serious medical conditions that ended their lives.

 

Buck declined to testify in his own defense.

 

Over the course of the trial, federal prosecutors called more than 20 witnesses, including four men who told of smoking methamphetamine that Buck provided and then being pressured to allow the defendant to inject them with the drug.

 

The acquittal motion contends that the only evidence that Buck distributed methamphetamine and other drugs at his apartment was bolstered by "the testimony of drug addicts" and should not have been believed.

 

The defense called just one witness to the stand. Dr. Marvin Pietruszka, who runs a private autopsy service in the San Fernando Valley, testified that after analyzing photos, slides and medical reports on the bodies of Moore and Dean, he determined that both men had significant medical issues that caused their deaths. Methamphetamine, he told the jury, did not kill either one.

 

Creary wrote in his acquittal motion that the government's own evidence showed Moore died of pulmonary edema brought on by complications of HIV/AIDS. The lawyer alleged that Pietruszka "confirmed" that Moore was "suffering from full-blown AIDS" and his health was further compromised by "chronic methamphetamine abuse."

The evidence presented during Ed Buck’s trial was a lot of things but insufficient it was not.

''Today, U.S. District Judge Christina Snyder indicated at a hearing via Zoom that she was inclined to deny a motion to set aside the jury’s verdict in the conviction of Democratic donor Ed Buck.''

 

A motion for judgment of acquittal says that the evidence at trial was insufficient for a conviction. In other words, Ed Buck’s attorneys are going to argue that no reasonable jury could possibly find guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

 

The evidence presented during Ed Buck’s trial was a lot of things but insufficient it was not.

 

To recap, Buck had been charged with two counts of distributing methamphetamine that resulted in the death, four counts of distributing methamphetamine, one count of maintaining a drug premises, and two counts of enticement to travel for purposes of prostitution.

 

Some of the evidence presented to the jury included the greatest hits from 2,400 of Ed Buck’s photos and videos showing him torturing men, pressuring men to smoke and inject meth, sexually assaulting unconscious men, and grooming men. The jury was also presented with DNA evidence, Buck’s text messages, and financial records. Of course, the most damning evidence was the witnesses who testified.

 

Sexual grooming is a preparatory process in which a perpetrator gradually gains a person’s or organization’s trust with the intent to be sexually abusive. The victim is usually a child, teen, or vulnerable adult. In Ed Buck’s case, the victims were vulnerable adults.

 

In federal criminal trials, all verdicts must be unanimous.

 

Buck was found guilty on not one, not two, but ALL nine counts.

 

During today’s hearing, Ed Buck, who appeared by video from jail, told the judge that he felt that he didn’t know what was going on and that he hadn’t had access to his attorneys in a month. Poor baby. His attorneys, however, had a different story.

 

Ludlow Creary, II, told the judge that he had briefed Ed Buck and visited him and that Ed Buck knew what was going on today. Christopher Darden just sat there like he was stuck on stupid and didn’t say a word–similar to his behavior for most of this case except for the few times he spoke during the trial to weaponize AIDS.

 

Trouble in paradise? Not my problem.

 

However, against the objections of Creary, the judge postponed today’s hearing to give Ed Buck adequate time to meet with his attorneys. Postponement only puts off the inevitable a little bit longer. The judge has already said that her tentative ruling is to deny the Defense’s motion. I seriously doubt there’s anything they are going to say to change her mind. But we can wait until October 18 for it to be official official.

 

Still, we take these hearings seriously as we fully expect Ed Buck to try and get his conviction overturned using the appellate process. It happens. Bill Cosby is free today.

 

Buck’s date for sentencing will also be announced on October 18 at the conclusion of the hearing.

I just thought it was cringey. And if you take any word and add the word "social" to it, it automatically turns it to shit. Social Justice is unjust. Social Science is not science. Social Security is not secure. Social Activists are fat and obviously not active. Truth social… well, let's hope they're the exception to the trend, I guess.
