Joe Biden built his presidential campaign around his assertion that he would "shut down the virus, not the economy." Accordingly, his approval rating has slumped and risen along with U.S. infection and death rates. The number of COVID cases nationwide is again on the decline—and, some Democratic strategists say, that gives the administration an opportunity to change the tone of the discussion around the virus. Biden now has a chance to depoliticize the issue with an action that is suddenly less controversial than it would have been just days ago: Fire Anthony Fauci.

Those familiar with “let’s go, Brandon!” took to Twitter to criticize Biden. “Hey, did you tell Brandon about how you were using him to hack a twitter algorithm? Bet he’d appreciate that,” one said, while another was convinced, “. . .this has to be trolling, right?”

“This is possibly an attempt to control the narrative around the ‘Lets go Brandon’ campaign,” another user tweeted. “Don’t be surprised when the left trots out their talking points as they blame conservatives for ‘offending’ a disabled kid with the ‘Lets go Brandon’.”

President Joe Biden offered his thoughts Thursday night on the idea of activating National Guard units to help get goods from point A to point B around the country, telling a CNN Town Hall that, “Yes, absolutely, positively. I will do that,” but his own staff have already waved it off.

If troops do chip in to help with unloading containers or driving trucks, or any other type of support, it will be on a state level, a White House official told Military Times on Friday.

“Requesting the use of the National Guard at the state level is under the purview of governors, and we are not actively pursuing the use of the National Guard on a federal level,” the official said.
