Statement, attributable to U.S. Army Maj. John Rigsbee, a U.S. Central Command Spokesperson:
A U.S. airstrike today in northwest Syria killed senior al-Qaeda leader Abdul Hamid al-Matar. We have no indications of civilian casualties as a result of the strike, which was conducted using an MQ-9 aircraft.
Al-Qaeda continues to present a threat to America and our allies. Al-Qaeda uses Syria as a safe haven to rebuild, coordinate with external affiliates, and plan external operations. Al-Qaeda also uses Syria as a base for threats reaching into Syria, Iraq and beyond. The removal of this al-Qaeda senior leader will disrupt the terrorist organization’s ability to further plot and carry out global attacks threatening U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians.
The U.S. will continue to target members of al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations who intend to harm the U.S. homeland.

The Battle of Racławice was one of the first battles of the Polish-Lithuanian Kościuszko Uprising against Russia. It was fought on 4 April 1794
General Denisov, with 2,500 troops, had planned to attack the Poles from the south, while Tormasov's force of 3,000 troops blocked Kosciuszko. Encountering Tormasov's force first, Kosciuszko occupied a nearby hill, General Antoni Madalinski on his right and General Józef Zajączek on his left. Not waiting any longer, Tormasov attacked the hill by 3:00 PM, setting up their cannon. Kosciuszko inspired his peasant brigade with shouts of "My boys, take that artillery! For God, and the Fatherland! Go forward with faith!"
The first group of serfs captured three twelve-pound cannons and the second wave captured eight more cannons. Moving to his left flank, Kosciuszko led a bayonet charge when the Russians fled, followed closely by the scythemen.
Both the red cap worn by his soldiers and the homemade war scythes were later featured on the emblem of the RAF's 303 (Polish) Fighter Squadron, which took part in the Battle of Britain.

Relative to enemy aircraft downed, Polish losses were small with 18 Hurricanes lost, seven pilots killed and five badly wounded. 303 Squadron was one of the top fighter units in the battle and the best Hurricane-equipped one. In its first seven days of combat, the squadron claimed nearly 40 enemy aircraft.

Another popular religious app, Olive Tree's Bible app, was also taken down this week in China. The company told the BBC they had removed the app themselves.
"Olive Tree Bible Software was informed during the App Store review process that we are required to provide a permit demonstrating our authorization to distribute an app with book or magazine content in mainland China," said a spokesperson.
"Since we did not have the permit and needed to get our app update approved and out to customers, we removed our Bible app from China's App Store."

Colombia's most wanted drug lord Otoniel captured
Colombia's most wanted drug trafficker and the leader of the country's largest criminal gang has been captured.
Dairo Antonio Úsuga, better known as Otoniel, was seized after a joint operation by the army, air force and police on Saturday.
The government had offered a $800,000 (£582,000) reward for information about his whereabouts, while the US placed a $5m bounty on his head.
President Iván Duque hailed Otoniel's capture in a televised video message.
"This is the biggest blow against drug trafficking in our country this century," he said. "This blow is only comparable to the fall of Pablo Escobar in the 1990s."

Migrants push past southern Mexican border city en route to US
Thousands of migrants mostly from Central America broke out of the Mexican southern border city of Tapachula and continued their march toward the US, more than 1,000 miles away.
Over 2,000 migrants pushed past a line of state authorities who were positioned to block their progress. Some minor scuffles left a small child injured.
The migrants — some of who were carrying American flags and signs with President Joe Biden’s name — walked to a nearby town to camp on a baseball field for the night, according to Fox News.
A man from Honduras said he had been in Tapachula for two months, waiting for an answer on his visa request.
“They told me I had to wait because the appointments were full,” said José Antonio, a construction worker who declined to give his last name. “There is no work there so out of necessity I joined this group.”
José said he hoped to find work in Monterrey, Mexico, which is 140 miles from Texas.
“We’ll go on, day by day, to get as far as we can,” he said.
Officials have tried to break up smaller caravans earlier this year as tens of thousands of migrants have waited in vain just over the Guatemalan border for refugee or asylum papers. Mexico requires asylum and visa seekers to wait in the southern state of Chiapas for their requests to be processed.
The current convoy is more organized than other marches north, as coordinators made participants register with a QR code or web link to join, according to Fox.
US Customs and Border Protection detained a record-high 1.7 million undocumented immigrants over the previous 12 months, officials said.
Critics have blamed the influx on the Biden administration’s overturning of the Trump-era “Remain in Mexico” policy for asylum-seekers. The White House is now poised to reinstate the policy after the Supreme Court upheld a lower court ruling on its legality.

Two children killed, eight others injured in Texas drag racing crash

On Saturday, October 23, 2021 at about 3:20 p.m., a vehicle participating in a drag racing event, Airport Race Wars 2, which was taking place at Kerrville Aviation, 1875 Airport Loop at Kerrville-Kerr County Airport, lost control and left the runway, crashing into parked vehicles and striking spectators who were observing the races.
The crash resulted in two fatalities, a six year old male child who died at the scene, and an eight year old male child who was transported to Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville where he was pronounced deceased.
Four people were transported by air ambulances to treatment facilities. A 26 year old male was transported to Dell Seaton Medical Center in Austin and is in unknown condition, a 27 year old female was transported to University Medical Center in San Antonio and is in non-life threatening critical condition, a 46 year old female was also transported to University Medical Center in San Antonio and is in critical condition, and the 34 year old male driver was transported to San Antonio Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.
Two people were treated and released at the scene, and two children, a four year old male child and a three month old female child, were transported to Peterson Regional Medical Center by ambulance for precautionary evaluations.
Kerrville Police are conducting an investigation into the accident. This investigation is active and ongoing. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

‘World’s scariest criminal’ with face covered by tattoos charged for alleged rape
A pedophile whose face is covered in tattoos is facing charges of trying to rape a woman while she slept beside her boyfriend.
Michael Campbell, 46, has been dubbed the ‘world’s scariest criminal’ is due to appear in court in Missouri on Monday and faces a life sentence if convicted.
Documents filed in Greene County describe Campbell as a “persistent sex offender”, who allegedly pulled down a woman’s pants and underwear as her boyfriend lay asleep next to her.
When her boyfriend woke up he chased Campbell out of the property and he fled on a bike.
Campbell denied trying to rape the woman and claimed she made “sexual advances towards him” inside a bathroom, the Smoking Gun reports.
He told cops that he “told her no” since he “had a curfew and needed to leave”.
Campbell was arrested and subsequently charged with attempted rape in the first degree.
