Our star is getting angry.

NASA is reporting that the Sun emitted a “significant” solar flare peaking at 11:35 a.m. EDT on October 28, 2021. Captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO)—which watches the Sun constantly—it came from a sunspot called AR2887.

Solar flares are powerful bursts of radiation, with X-class the most intense. Today’s was classed as an X1.0 flare, which is half as intense as an X2.0 flare. X10 flares are classed as “unusually intense,” according to NASA.
