I shared a barracks in the military with a gay person. I am very familiar with gay people. I have nothing against them as long as they leave me alone.

Because I know some people who have a kid who is gay. I would not want to see them physically hurt their child. They can express their disapproval, but it's still their kid, and they are going to keep loving their kid no matter what.
People can be willing to accept another person's faults without embracing them.
But when that person insists that their lifestyle choice is "normal", I cannot agree with that.
I have a friend who went to her gay niece's wedding to be "supportive" of her lifestyle choice and she said throughout the wedding the gay people there kept verbally attacking the straight guests as being homophobes.
Up is down.
Left is Right.

We need to get our heads on straight and stop believing the lies and stop letting ourselves be manipulated.
How about when people pick their nose in public and eat their boogers? Does that disgust you? Some things are socially acceptable to do in public and some are not.

The public high school by my house, that I pay property taxes to support, had their electronic sign during Pride Month flashing a Rainbow flag and some message endorsing Gay Pride. That's pretty much in people's faces.
