Austria may lock down the vaccinated too
Just three days after unvaccinated Austrians were told to be quarantined, a provincial governor is pressing for a nationwide lockdown of all residents as Covid-19 infections continue setting record highs.
âIf no national lockdown is ordered tomorrow, there will definitely have to be a lockdown of several weeks in Upper Austria, together with our neighboring province Salzburg as of next week,â Upper Austria Governor Thomas Stelzer told lawmakers on Thursday.
That will mean that at least two of Austriaâs nine provinces will be in full lockdown mode just days after the nation created a two-tier society by locking down the approximately two million unvaccinated Austrians.
âWe must raise the vaccination rate. It is shamefully low,â Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said on Sunday, announcing that unvaccinated residents would only be allowed to leave their homes for âessentialâ purposes, such as buying groceries or going to a doctorâs office.
Police are now doing random checks for proof of vaccination on Austrian streets. Those unvaccinated residents who are found to be in violation of the lockdown order face steep fines of up to 500 euros. Those who refuse to go through a vaccination status check will have to pay about three times as much.
Stelzer and other Austrian governors are scheduled to meet with Schallenberg and Health Minister Wolfgang Mueckstein on Friday, when a full lockdown will likely be considered.
New Covid-19 cases in the country passed the 15,000 mark for the first time on Thursday, far surpassing 2020âs daily high of 9,586, set when no vaccines were available. Upper Austria and Salzburg have been hit the hardest, putting hospitals at risk of bed shortages. With some 66% of its population fully vaccinated, Austria lags behind other western European countries in terms of the Covid-19 vaccination rate.
While Austria is the first to impose a lockdown on the unvaccinated, other EU countries â including Slovakia, Czechia and Greece â have imposed increasingly tight restrictions on people who haven't taken a Covid vaccine.

FBI hid evidence in Malcolm X murder trial, convictions tossed
A New York judge voided the convictions of two black men for the 1965 assassination of activist Malcolm X, after a re-investigation inspired by a Netflix documentary found the FBI had withheld evidence of their innocence.
State Supreme Court Justice Ellen Biben threw out the convictions of Muhammad A. Aziz (aka Norman 3X Butler) and Khalil Islam (aka Thomas 15X Johnson), who were charged with assassinating Malcolm X at Manhattanâs Audubon Ballroom and sentenced to life in prison in 1966.
Thursday's decision to void their sentence followed the 22-month investigation by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. and lawyers for the two men, which found that both prosecutors and the FBI had withheld evidence that could have exonerated Aziz and Islam during their trial.
According to the investigation, prosecutors failed to disclose that undercover police officers were present at the Audubon Ballroom at the time of the shooting. The New York Police Department did not reveal that the New York Daily News received a call tipping them off about the impending assassination. The FBI did not tell state officials that a particular man who matched the description of one of the assassins was known to them, and even identified by an informant â letting Aziz and Islam be blamed instead.

Democrat Connecticut Governor Says Covid Boosters Needed For People to be Considered âFully Vaccinatedâ
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont (D) on Thursday said booster shots are needed for people to be considered âfully vaccinatedâ against Covid.
NBC New York reported:
Anyone who got a COVID-19 vaccine more than six months ago should not consider themselves fully vaccinated, Gov. Ned Lamont said Thursday as he urged Connecticut residents to get a booster shot.
Lamont spoke along with the stateâs health commissioner and other health officials in Vernon, where he said he would not wait for official word from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention before telling all adults to get a booster vaccine and urging providers to make them available.
âCDC speaks Latin,â Lamont said. âI canât figure out who is eligible, whoâs not eligible.â
The governor said the state is working to make sure the most vulnerable, including those in nursing homes have access to the shot.
âIf you were vaccinated more than six months ago, now is the time to get that booster,â he said. âGet it before Thanksgiving, before Christmas, before all those holidays.
Governor Lamontâs comments come after a Covid outbreak at a Connecticut nursing home killed 8 fully vaccinated residents and infected 89 others.
Among the 89 people infected at Geer Village Senior Community in Canaan, 87 were fully vaccinated.
Dr. Fauci and the CDC are starting to suggest Covid booster mandates are next.

Project Coast: Apartheid's Chemical and Biological Warfare Programme
In the early 1990s, acknowledging publicly and dismantling its nuclear weapons programme gave South Africa a moral lead in the prevention of nuclear weapons proliferation and in pursuit of global nuclear disarmament. Perhaps in much the same way, the revelations over its covert chemical and biological weapons (CBW) programme and the transparency with which the government has dealt with them, have enabled South Africa to take a lead role in the negotiations for strengthening the 1972 Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention. Openness concerning its experience during the apartheid years lends real credibility to South Africa's ethical and practical stance on international disarmament.
South Africa's covert CBW programme, code-named Project Coast, began in 1981 and formally ended in 1995. Ostensibly motivated by the need to develop better crowd control agents and defensive CBW gear, in practice the programme focussed on the production of poisons intended for the assassination of state enemies within and outside the country and of unsuitable chemical substances. Conceived and operated beyond ordinary political, military and financial controls, Project Coast functioned on the basis of a myriad of front companies, illicit transactions, personal relationships and invisible power structures.
Drawing on the evidence presented at the criminal trial of Dr. Wouter Basson, managing officer of Project Coast, numerous interviews and other relevant documentation, Project Coast: Apartheid's Chemical and Biological Warfare Programme by ChandrĂŠ Gould and Peter Folb offers a meticulous account of South Africa's clandestine CBW programme under apartheid. The book, which contains a preface by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, makes a major contribution to our knowledge of the South African apartheid CBW programme and serves as a warning of the grave dangers posed by CBW in the absence of adequate supervision.

AFP arrests Victorian man accused of sexually abusing boys in the Philippines
A Victorian man has been arrested and charged, accused of sexually abusing several boys in the Philippines.
The 59-year-old man was arrested by Australian Federal Police on arrival at Sydney Airport from Singapore on Thursday night. He had been overseas since January 2018.
The Victorian Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) - tasked with combatting the online exploitation of children - became aware of allegations the man had been abusing children overseas during a separate investigation into another Australian citizen.
Investigators later spoke to several boys who allege the man sexually abused them or engaged in sexual activity in their presence in Manila between 2016 and 2020.
They were aged between nine and 14 at the time of the alleged offending.
Police will allege the man also sent money to a now convicted Philippines child abuse facilitator between July and December 2017.
The man has been charged with 12 alleged offences including five counts of engaging in sexual intercourse with a child outside of Australia and four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child outside of Australia.
The maximum penalty for these offences ranges from 20 to 25 yearsâ imprisonment.
He will appear in Sydney Magistrateâs Court on Friday where police will apply to have him extradited to Victoria.
AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Jarrod Ragg said police were aware that the reopening of international borders âmay likely result in travel overseas by child sex offendersâ.
âThe AFP and its partners are warning these individuals to not test our resolve, as we will ensure they are caught and face the full extent of the law in Australia.
âOur common goal is to protect children, wherever they live, and ensure anyone who harms them is identified and brought before the courts.â
Anyone with information about people involved in alleged child abuse and exploitation is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Zyia is still recovering at MetroHealth Hospital System.
Her mom Rashae Henderson said she was able to open her eyes Wednesday after suffering a traumatic brain bleed.
She claims her baby was covered in bruises when she picked her up from the babysitter.

She needed a babysitter overnight while she went to work.

Woodland Park man pleads guilty after getting caught on camera attempting to meet 13-year-old girl
News 5 Investigates featured Thomas Fellows in a report earlier this year on child predators.
Fellows is not a cop. He's simply a dad with a camera who confronts men when they show up to meet who they think is an underage teen.
His work has led to multiple arrests across the state. News 5 Investigates has learned a Woodland Park man caught in one of these sting operations over the summer will now likely be facing some time in prison.
Woodland Park police arrested Robert Allen Elliott after he showed up to meet a 13-year-old girl.
Elliott said he had no intention of having sex with a minorâhe was just looking for a friendship.
Our investigation also uncovered this is not Elliott's first run-in with the law.
"You're here to meet a 13-year-old girl," Fellows said as he confronted Elliott. "Let's stop bull*."
"Yeh," Elliott said.
"You know you were meeting a 13-year-old girl," Fellows said. "You've already been arrested for this before, correct?"
"Yeh," Elliott said.
Over the last year, Fellows has confronted dozens of alleged predators.
He recently traded in his window washing job to expose men looking to have sex with minors after he says his son was molested.
Fellows goes on dating apps and poses as a minor. When the men ask to meet up, he shows up with a camera in-hand.

LCSD announces additional arrests in operation targeting online child predators
The Lexington County Sheriffâs Department says three more men face charges in connection with an operation that targets online child predators.
Deputies say 49-year-old Steven Leslie Wright, a Florida man with connections to South Carolina, is charged with criminal solicitation of a minor, attempted dissemination of obscene material to a person under 18 and sexual exploitation of a minor.
âWright is the 23rd man arrested as part of the monthlong operation we hosted in the summer with the Lexington Police Department and the South Carolina Attorney Generalâs Office,â Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. âThe intent of these suspects during these communications is clear. They wanted to persuade, entice or coerce someone they reasonably believed to be under the age of 18 to engage in sexual activity.â
Authorities say Wright is a past sex offender who failed to stay current with the sex offender registry in the state.
âHe used the Meet24 app to send messages and pictures to a person he believed was a 13-year-old girl,â Koon said. âWright was arrested last month in Pickens County.â
In addition to this arrest, deputies say two men turned themselves in on charges stemming from the same operation. Officials say 23-year-old Michael Alexander Najera, of North Carolina, is charged with criminal solicitation of a minor, attempted dissemination of obscene material to a person under 18 and sexual exploitation of a minor. Officials also say 30-year-old Hampton Craig Short, of Charlotte, is charged with criminal solicitation of a minor, attempted dissemination of obscene material to a person under 18.
Sheriff Koon says no children were used or placed in danger during this operation.

Joe Biden Told Hunter He Had âNo Hesitancyâ in Helping With Million Dollar Dispute With Former Business Partner
"Eric is holding the check in one of MY accounts that only he has access to as leverage to have me agree to some demand he has."
In text messages retrieved from Hunter Bidenâs laptop and obtained by National File, Joe Biden told his son that he had âabsolutely no hesitancyâ in helping resolve a dispute with a business partner for an amount Hunter described as between $800,000 and over $1 million.
In a text conversation between Hunter Biden and his father Joe dated March 5 2019, Hunter lamented to Joe that he was âsupposed to be paid yesterday,â but that âEric is holding the check in one of MY accounts that only he has access to as leverage to have me agree to some demand he has.â
It is unclear why Hunter does not have access to an account that was seemingly his at the time. Joe Biden then offered to pay the dentist bill for Hunterâs daughter Maisy, and said that Hunter âneed notâ pay him back.
The next day, Hunter texted his father Biden a diatribe about a business dispute he was having with the aforementioned Eric, telling Joe that Eric is âholding without any right my checks from investments that somehow went to his address until I agree to give him 100% equity in a business that I own 100% of and fired him from 2.5 years ago.â
âHe knows that i canât sue him because I canât wait that long for the money without creating much bigger problems,â Hunter continued. âHeâs been doing this to me for three years and not a single person except George and Jeff Cooper know itâs a lie. George just proved that the agreement Eric said I signed was actually my e-signature that I never placed on any document.â
âThatâs been the cornerstone of any argument Eric had. He obviously was able to convince everyone that Iâve wronged him while he holds over $800,000 of mine totally without any merit,â he added, saying that over three years it added up to over $1 million. âCan I help with Eric. I have absolutely no hesitancy,â Joe texted back. âLet me help if you think i can. Love dad.â
