Mexico declares war on memes
"The lawmaker suggests a penalty of up to four years in prison and a fine of nearly US$2,000 for meme creators.
A Mexican lawmaker for the ruling PRI party will present a bill before her state's congress to criminalize the creation and dissemination of memes on social networks.
Martha Orta Rodriguez suggests a penalty of up to four years in prison and a fine of nearly US$2,000 for those responsible for creating these often humorous and satirical images on the Web.
Orta said she is trying to prevent “harmful" and “humiliating” images from being circulated on the Internet, but unsurprisingly her proposal was not received well online.
A viral campaign of memes has flooded the web in Mexico with all kind of jokes and comments making fun of the lawmaker’s plans to criminalize them.
Orta Rodriguez belongs to the most conservative wing of the PRI party in the north-central Mexican state of San Luis Potosi.
The criticisms against her proposal have been fueled by the fact that the state she represents has more than 2.3 million people living in poverty.
Residents believe that lawmakers should be addressing other issues rather than being worried about what people do with memes on the Internet."

Woman sets Covid quarantine hotel on fire
A woman has been arrested and charged with arson in Queensland, Australia after she reportedly set fire to a hotel where she and her two kids were forced to quarantine for two weeks.
The blaze engulfed the top floor of the Pacific Hotel in the northeastern city of Cairns on Sunday morning, forcing an evacuation of more than 160 guests.

But Jason Chaffetz refused to ask either RINO about their controversial votes that were a spit in the face to Trump voters and working Americans.
Chaffetz had on Nancy Mace but refused to ask her about her recent vote to indict President Trump’s former strategist Steve Bannon. Nancy Mace also blamed President Trump for the Jan. 6 protests and riot he had nothing to do with. This was her first act in Congress after pretending to be a Trump Republican during her campaign.
Nancy Mace also supports a radical transgender bill meant to silence dissent with the full force of the civil-rights bureaucracy.

Rep. John Katko (R-NY) voted to impeach Trump and recently led a group of 12 Republicans in passing Joe Biden’s bogus infrastructure bill, something that would have failed without the GOP votes.
