Yes it does take 48 hours, sometimes up to 72 hours from what I notice.
Located near major metro area, have worked many jobs in the city over the years. Can speak from experience that when the skies are sprayed heavy, 9/10 times you can rest assured some crazy shit is going to happen in the city within that 48 to 72 hour window.
