The only way to Joy is through God. These people are so misserable and so empty inside that they need to try to fill an insatiable void with material objects. Material objects make them feel happy for the afternoon but their minds keep haunting them with missery and so they need the next object to fill that void and they'll never find true, steady, constant, unconditional Joy just for Being alive and basking in God's Glory. (I live on an indian rez 20x below natl poverty level rn, I've lived off the grid and lived out in nature, chopping wood, hauling my own water, no bathroom, no stove, fridge, no running water, dirt floors, etc.. and I found God and unconditional Joy anyway.) I'm on my way up now but I done did it.. I found unconditional Joy in God because I control how I think and Faith feels good and fear/doubt feel bad. You can choose to be happy.) Anyway, these people aren't happy at all. They're weak and they hurt inside. It is God's law..disconnection from God hurts. Always. God gave us that inate guidance. Atonement, wholeness with God, Salvation = Joy. They're empty.
