Silverman had tweeted at the MSNBC host to “Please read the article before you post this stuff you’re a news outlet. The truth has to matter” after Reid’s tweet regarding a CNN article about DeSantis’ proposal for a new civilian military force in Florida that he would control. She also noted that in the piece it said that many states had done the same, including California and New York.

“We can’t even critique anyone in your own party without punishment,” Sarah explained on her show. “One of the hosts of The View was like, ‘What hubris for Sarah Silverman to accuse a Black woman of not reading,’ Oy! Jesus H. – What the f- I f—ing surrender! I cannot believe I need to say this, but I did not criticize Joy-Ann because she’s Black, but because she’s a Harvard-educated journalist with the responsibility ideally of showing the whole picture and not just a piece of a picture.”

The comedian said Reid isn’t just a “political journalist” but a “political commentator” with opinions.

“Where do I get just the plain old news?” Silverman asked. “I need a news outlet that’s just the facts, something that I can draw my own opinion. It’s just facts, and then I draw my own opinion on it. That’d be so nice! I’d like to draw my own conclusions sometimes. I mean, I’m interested in other people’s thoughts, but, um, it can’t only be that.”

“And good grief!” she added. “You dare criticize anything in your own party, you’re the enemy. And that kind of black and white thinking on both sides … it’s such a turn-off to me. That ‘you’re either with us or against us’ kind of vibe with no room for questions or critique — it feels very not liberal to me. It feels like right-wingish.”

Former White House trade adviser Peter Navarro has refused to comply with a subpoena for documents related to the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus, saying the former president ordered him not to, according to his response to a congressional request released on Saturday.

The subpoena was issued in November by the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis as part of its probe of whether former Trump administration officials mishandled the federal response to the pandemic by interfering with its own health agency’s work. Nearly 800,000 people have died in the United States from the pandemic.

Navarro, a Republican, also served as one of former President Donald Trump’s pandemic response advisers and was responsible for procurement in the coronavirus response, among other things. Navarro said in a letter to the subcommittee he would not cooperate because Trump told him to “protect executive privilege.”

“It is a direct order that I should not comply with the subpoena,” Navarro said in a letter to the committee, a copy of which was seen by Reuters.

Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, issued a subpoena to Peter Navarro, former Director of the White House Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy and an Assistant to President Trump.

In a memo to Select Subcommittee Members explaining the reasons for issuing the subpoena, Chairman Clyburn wrote:

“As Director of the White House Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy and an Assistant to the President, Mr. Navarro was integrally involved in the prior Administration’s pandemic response including its procurement efforts. Documents previously released by the Select Subcommittee show that rather than implement a coordinated national strategy to alleviate critical supply shortages, Mr. Navarro and other Trump Administration officials pushed responsibility to the states and pursued a haphazard and ineffective approach to procurement—contributing to severe shortages of critically needed supplies and putting American lives at risk. White House officials, including Mr. Navarro, also appear to have sidelined career procurement officials and exercised inappropriate influence over contract awards, leading to the award of contracts without adequate diligence or competition. As cases surged in the autumn of 2020, Mr. Navarro and other Trump Administration officials appear to have prioritized politics over the pandemic response—focusing their attention on the 2020 presidential election and promoting former President Trump’s Big Lie that the election results were fraudulent.”

The subpoena orders Mr. Navarro to appear for a deposition and produce documents related to his work on the Trump Administration’s pandemic response, after Mr. Navarro refused to cooperate with requests set forth in a September 14, 2021 letter. Chairman Clyburn’s memo continued:

“Mr. Navarro has refused to voluntarily comply with the Select Subcommittee’s requests—ignoring repeated attempts to gain his voluntarily compliance and otherwise failing to communicate with Select Subcommittee staff. … Given his central role in the pandemic response, the importance of the Select Subcommittee’s investigation, and his continued refusal to cooperate voluntarily, this subpoena is necessary.”
