A number of ADL publications were presented to Scanlon, especially a report hot off the presses. The data included show that most terrorist attacks in America are perpetrated by white supremacists or domestic terrorists and not by illegal immigrants — and not by immigrants seeking asylum in America.

One of these bills is one to provide incentives for hate crime reporting, grants for state-run hate crime hotlines, a federal private right of action for victims of hate crimes and additional penalties for individuals convicted under the Matthew Shephard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. The mere mention of these two victims of hate crimes, Shephard and Byrd, just make my blood run cold. One of the congresswoman’s chief staffers in her D.C. office is someone who has held leadership roles in LGBTQ nonprofit organizations.
