don't have the sauce atm but read somewhere that mini-epidemics circa 1860 & 1880 gave people antibodies to the 1918 variant known as the spanish flu. thus those that were too young to be exposed during those prior epidemics didn't have antibodies and represent a disproportionate # of deaths.
