Morbidly Obese Def Sec Fires Unvaxxed Troops In The Name of 'Combat Readiness'

Morbidly obese Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, a former Raytheon board member hired for reasons of "diversity," fired dozens more troops this week for not getting "vaccinated," citing combat "readiness concerns."

Does this man look ready for combat to you?

Unless our troops need emergency breastfeeding, I can't imagine Lloyd would be much help were a war to break out. It probably takes two men just to help him get out of bed in the morning.

From Politico, "Marines kick out 206 troops for refusing Covid-19 vaccine":

The Marine Corps announced Thursday that it has kicked out more troops for refusing the Covid-19 vaccine. The total number of discharges has risen to 206, up from 169 last week.

The fiscal 2022 National Defense Authorization Act, which President Joe Biden signed into law Monday, dictates that the military services cannot dishonorably discharge members for vaccine refusal. The discharges must be either honorable or general under honorable conditions.

Where things stand: Overall, 95 percent of all active-duty Marines have received at least the first dose, while 86 percent of the Reserve force has received the first shot.

The service received 3,247 requests for religious accommodation, with 3,115 of those having been processed and zero requests approved citing readiness concerns.

Most of these troops already had covid and recovered and they're doing us and the world a favor by not getting "vaxxed" and risking the creation of more variants.

They have far better immunity to covid than any of the troops who just took the therapeutics that only work for a few months (allegedly).

We know this whole vax mandate has nothing to do with "combat readiness" because they're actively gutting combat readiness standards as we speak in the name of "diversity."

Peter Schweizer: Harry Reid ‘Enriched Himself and His Family,’ Used ‘Fear’ to ‘Control and Persuade’

Peter Schweizer, president of the Government Accountability Institute and host of the Drill Down podcast, said on Thursday that former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) enriched himself and his family by leveraging his political power.

Reid “enriched himself and his family,” Schweizer said on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow, “but you’ve got to give him credit. He had staying power. He had enemies in Washington, DC, but he always seems to overcome them and win.”

Schweizer recalled a quote from Susan McCue, Harry Reid’s former chief of staff, which he included in his 2013 book, Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets. She said Reid was always assessing a person’s vulnerabilities in order to “disarm, to endear, to threaten, but most of all to instill fear.”

“The question is … if you’re really in private practice much at all over the course of 40 years and you’re serving in various government posts, how do you get this wealthy?” Schweizer asked, “and if you look at his career — that kind of a mobster, kind of scare people, use the leverage — played in.

Schweizer recalled an instance of Reid pushing an infrastructure project that increased the value of some property he owned.

He remarked, “In 2005, he’s a senator, he puts in an earmark to build a bridge in Bullhead City in Nevada for $18 million dollars — that’s taking our taxpayer money — this was to join Bullhead City with Arizona, to take it across the river joining Nevada and Arizona. The Arizona delegation said, ‘This is ridiculous. It’s not worth it. There’s another bridge further down the road. It’s not needed.’ But then, when you looked actually at Harry Reid’s holdings, you found out that he actually had a parcel of land right next to — or near — the bridge that was eventually built with taxpayer money. And the land that was valued at $400,000 before the bridge was worth $1.6 million after the bridge was built, and he profited.”

Schweizer explained how Reid’s sons’ lobbying careers benefits from the late senator’s political powers.

He stated, “The other part of [Reid’s] machine was his family — a big family — his sons Rory, Key, and Joshua were all lobbyists while he was a senator. His son-in-law, a guy named Steve Barringer, was also a lobbyist, and if you wanted anything done in Nevada — anything frankly, done in Washington, DC, — you were expected to hire one of his kids to effectively lobby his office. This was a very aggressive enterprise that was very profitable for the family.”

Reid evaded disclosure requirements for elected officials by enriching his children, Schweizer said. Reid “was very smart about setting up his kids,” he shared. “In other words, the flow of money from the interest was not directly to him in all these cases. A lot of times it would go to his kids, and the reason [is] you don’t have to disclose.”

Human rights advocates and attorneys representing Guantánamo Bay detainees on Thursday decried a secret new courtroom reportedly being built by the Pentagon at the notorious offshore US prison.

The New York Times reports Gitmo’s new second courtroom – which will cost $4 million – will not allow members of the public to witness proceedings against detainees to be tried for alleged terrorism-related offenses. People wishing to view those trials will have the option of watching delayed video footage in a separate building.

“I’ve observed trial proceedings in person at Guantánamo. The chipper ‘secrecy’ imposed by the military is insulting, anti-democratic, and cowardly,” said Michael Bronner, producer of the 2021 film The Mauritanian, which portrays Gitmo detainee Mohamedou Ould Slahi’s 14-year fight for freedom. “The entire enterprise makes a mockery out of what the US pretends to stand for.”

The Times calls the second court “the latest retreat from transparency in the already secretive national security cases at the base, where the military and intelligence agencies have been restricting what the public can see.”

The paper says that the new court “appears to be tailor-made for the conspiracy murder trial of three men who were recently charged in two terrorist bombings in Indonesia in 2002 and 2003 that killed more than 200 people.”

Pentagon officials said the new courtroom – which is being built in the United States for assembly at Gitmo by 2023 – will enable prosecutors to hold two simultaneous trials. Camp Justice, Guantánamo’s court compound, consists of prefabricated structures and tents in order to circumvent the congressional approval needed for permanent buildings. The current main courtroom permits observers to watch live proceedings with a 40-second audio delay that allows judges or security officers to censor information they believe is classified.

I just got off the phone with my friend who is a nurse practitioner at a large cancer treatment center. She is at her own doctors office presently waiting to get tested for COVID. She has a bronchitis type congestion with deep bronchial congestion, maybe lung and is coughing up green junk when she can get something up. Started yesterday and progressed quickly. She is thrice vaccinated as required by employer. She was in the waiting room and they said it was going to be a 3 hour wait. She is hearing that many clinics in the area are out of rapid tests but is not sure if that will be the case where she is at.

Ok - so get this. She told me that just yesterday (in one day) the cancer clinic got 10 calls from patients who were cancelling because they had been exposed to family members with covid and that a number of those family members were in the hospital and quite ill. Nine out of the 10 family members were vaxxed x3. She also told me that three of the ministerial staff at her church had covid and 2 of them were hospitalized – one 40 years old (unvaxxed) and one 70 years old and vaxxed. Both in ICU.

So of these 13 and possibly 14 patients, they are all except for one or possibly two the vax status of the 3rd clergy member is unknown.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has said he is not opposed to a “good” nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, although he expressed skepticism that the talks that resumed this week can result in such an outcome.

“At the end of the day, of course there can be a good deal,” Bennett told Israeli Army Radio on December 28. “Is that, at the moment, under the current dynamic, expected to happen? No, because a much harder stance is needed.”

Israel is not a party to the talks and opposed the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers that curbed Iran’s controversial nuclear program, saying it was not tough enough.

In the past, Israel has accused its archenemy Iran of using “nuclear blackmail” as a bargaining chip that allowed it to inch closer to developing a nuclear weapon.

The eighth round of negotiations aimed at reviving the deal, which stalled after the United States withdrew from the accord in 2018, opened in Vienna on December 27.

Iran, which claims its nuclear program is for civilian purposes only, reacted to the U.S. withdrawal by gradually ramping up its nuclear program and enriching uranium well beyond the thresholds allowed in the original agreement.

Tehran has said that the current negotiations should focus on lifting sanctions on the Islamic republic and obtaining “guarantees” that Washington, which is participating the talks indirectly, will return to the accord.

“The most important issue for us is to reach a point where, firstly, Iranian oil can be sold easily and without hindrance,” Iranian media quoted Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian as saying in Tehran before negotiations resumed this week.

Diplomats from the three European countries directly involved in the negotiations said after that round ended that negotiators were “rapidly reaching the end of the road.” They have expressed frustration with Tehran’s new demands in recent weeks but pointed to “some technical progress.”

Russia’s envoy in the talks, Mikhail Ulyanov, said on December 28 that the working group was making “indisputable progress.”

“Sanctions lifting is being actively discussed in informal settings,” he wrote on Twitter.

FDA says PCR tests for COVID are 'gold standard' after CDC admits they catch old infections

Questions about the sensitivities of PCR tests have lingered since summer 2020, but FDA stands behind them as the best detection tool for COVID-19.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky's recent admission that common tests for COVID-19 can detect long-gone infections has some calling into question the Food and Drug Administration's claim that the tests represent the "gold standard" for diagnosing coronavirus.

The CDC's new caution also falls in line with reports going back 16 months about widespread false positives among the so-called PCR tests, particularly when labs run them at high "cycle thresholds," which pick up viral loads that may be dead or too small to transmit.

The CDC's decision Monday to halve the recommended "isolation" time for asymptomatic COVID-19 infections amid the Omicron wave, regardless of whether individuals test negative, prompted consternation in some medical circles.

The agency justified the new 5-day isolation by claiming "the majority of SARS-CoV-2 transmission occurs early in the course of illness, generally in the 1-2 days prior to onset of symptoms and the 2-3 days after."

But Walensky also emphasized that neither rapid antigen tests, which are currently in short supply, nor PCR tests were appropriate for determining if a person can safely leave isolation.

She told CBS Mornings that antigen tests may not be sensitive enough to detect infectiousness, while PCR tests are so sensitive that "it can stay positive for up to 12 weeks, for months and months." People would have to stay isolated "for a very long time if we were relying on PCRs," she told Good Morning America.

The significance of Walensky's declaration, which has sweeping implications for COVID policy in the workplace, school and travel settings, went largely unnoticed except among skeptics of COVID policy.

Antifa Rioter, Arrested Three Times for Assaulting Police, Has Case Dismissed

An Antifa rioter in Portland who was arrested three separate times for assaulting police officers during riots had his charges dismissed “with prejudice,” meaning no charges connected with the crime will ever be brought against him.

Eva Warner of Beaverton, Oregon, who police said was also known as Joshua Warner, was arrested three times in August 2020 and released without bail. He had been accused of shining a laser into the eyes of police — an extraordinarily dangerous assault given the potential for blindness.

Fox News:

Portland Police said Warner directed a high-powered laser into the eyes of law enforcement officers trying to disperse the crowd. Warner resisted arrest, prompting officers to use force, the DOJ said. A laser pointer was found on Warner.

Warner was booked into custody and charged with intentionally obstructing, impeding, interfering with law enforcement officers engaged in official duties but later released without bail.

About a week later, Warner was arrested again and charged with second-degree criminal mischief in connection with another riot. Warner was again released from custody without bail.

On September 2, Warner was arrested in a southeast Portland apartment as part of a federal investigation. He appeared in court before a U.S. magistrate judge the next day and was later released pending further court proceedings.

Warner was looking at five years in prison if convicted. Instead, the prosecutor never brought the case to trial, and Warner had his case dismissed by Scott Erik Asphaug, acting U.S. attorney for the District of Oregon on December 21.

The motion noted that the defendant had performed “at least 30 hours of community service.”

The next day, U.S. District Court Judge Michael H. Simon dismissed Warner’s indictment “with prejudice,” according to court documents obtained by Fox News.

Fox News has reached out to Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon Thomas S. Ratcliffe as well as the Portland Police Association. Warner’s attorney was not available for comment.

Just to contrast the treatment of Warner with the legal jeopardy of J6 rioters, earlier in December, one January 6 rioter charged with assaulting a police officer found himself looking at the next five years behind bars for his crime.

Maybe if Palmer had performed community service, he might have avoided jail time — except it’s very difficult to perform community service from a jail cell.

The message is being sent loud and clear: No one cares in Portland if you try to blind a police officer during a riot ostensibly about “police brutality.” As long as you express the proper political sentiment with your actions, you can get away with just about anything.

In truth, both Palmer and Warner should serve time in jail. That Mr. Warner finds himself a free man today is a disgusting miscarriage of justice.

Dec. 31 (UPI) – Singer and actress Tiffani Hale, who is best known as a member of The All New Mickey Mouse Club and the pop band The Party, has died at the age of 46.

Hale suffered a heart attack that left her in a coma and she died last Saturday.

Her bandmate Deedee Magno Hall announced the sad news on Instagram Thursday.

"It is with the heaviest of broken hearts that we share the sad news of the passing of our beloved sister, Tiffini Talia Hale," the post on Hall's page said.

"Early this month, she suffered a cardiac arrest that resulted in her being left in a coma. After many prayers and with her family by her side, our dearest Tiff took her last breath Christmas morning. She is now resting peacefully. Tiffini's family has kindly asked that their privacy be respected as they take this time to grieve. Tiffini's mother Nancy and sister Tanya send their love to all, as well as many thanks for such kind support through the years. On behalf of Tiffini's family, and her Party and MMC brothers and sisters, we want to thank all of you for the love and well wishes you have expressed for our dear Tiffini. Her beauty, talent, style and fun loving spirit will forever live in our hearts and memories."

The message was signed by her Disney Channel family, which also includes Chase Hampton, Jeune Pierre and Damon Pampolina.

CDC Now Treats Unvaccinated The Same As Un-Boosted, Just As DeSantis Predicted

In its recently updated guidance on exposure to COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) treats double jabbed individuals that have not received a booster shot the same as unvaccinated ones.

“For people who are unvaccinated or are more than six months out from their second mRNA dose (or more than 2 months after the J&J vaccine) and not yet boosted, CDC now recommends quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days,” the updated guidance reads. “Alternatively, if a 5-day quarantine is not feasible, it is imperative that an exposed person wear a well-fitting mask at all times when around others for 10 days after exposure. Individuals who have received their booster shot do not need to quarantine following an exposure, but should wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure.”

The move to change the definition of “fully vaccinated” by the federal health agency was predicted by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis last month. During a press conference in Tallahassee, the Republican governor told attendees that “those individuals who have gone through a normal vaccination series for COVID …will be determined to be unvaccinated very soon.”

“They will do that – they are gonna tell you: ‘you’re unvaccinated and you have to get a booster,'” he said, adding that those who choose not to get a booster “could potentially face loss of employment or other types of penalties.”

The comments sparked outcry from legacy media fact-checkers, who were quick to label the governor’s prediction as false. Writing in The Independent, Andrew Feinberg penned an article titled “Fact Check: DeSantis falsely claims vaccinated citizens without boosters could be declared unvaccinated and lose their jobs,” in which he claims that DeSantis was “lying about the possibility that Covid-19 boosters will be used to force people out of their jobs.”

“Centers for Disease Control Director Rochelle Walensky has repeatedly denied that the Biden administration plans to consider people who do not get boosters to be unvaccinated.” he wrote.

In addition to the recently updated guidelines, government health officials have also publicly indicated that such a change in definition would ultimately occur. During a CNN interview earlier this month, White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci foreshadowed that changing the definition of fully vaccinated to include booster shots is a matter of “when, not if.”

“I don’t see that changing tomorrow or next week, but certainly if you want to talk about what optimal protection is, I don’t think anybody would argue that optimal protection is going to be with a third shot,” he said. “For me, as a public health person, I just say get your third shot – forget about what the definition is. I just want to see people be optimally protected.”

Helicopter crash leaves 1 dead, 3 hurt northwest of Houston

LIVINGSTON, Texas (AP) — One person is dead and three more are injured after a helicopter crashed northwest of Houston on Thursday, according to state and federal authorities.

A Bell 206B helicopter with four people on board crashed in a field in Livingston, Texas, about 70 miles northwest of Houston, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.

It's unclear what led to the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation and provide updates, according to the FAA statement. The NTSB confirmed Thursday that it has opened an investigation and sent an investigator to the crash site but provided no other details.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened about 11:45 a.m.

Daniel King, 54, of Livingston, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to DPS.

Braydon King, 26, and Brocton King, 23, both of Livingston, were both taken to a Houston hospital, DPS said. The pilot John Martin, 73, of Montgomery, also was taken to a Houston hospital, DPS said.

Their conditions were not immediately available.

BOSTON — Basketball Hall of Famer Sam Jones, the Boston Celtics’ “Mr. Clutch” whose sharp shooting fueled the league’s longest dynasty and earned him 10 NBA titles — second only to teammate Bill Russell — has died, the team said. He was 88.

Jones died Thursday night in Florida, where he had been hospitalized in failing health, Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss said.

“Sam Jones was one of the most talented, versatile, and clutch shooters for the most successful and dominant teams in NBA history,” the team said in a statement.

“His scoring ability was so prolific, and his form so pure, that he earned the simple nickname, ‘The Shooter,’” the Celtics said. “The Jones family is in our thoughts as we mourn his loss and fondly remember the life and career of one of the greatest champions in American sports.”

The Celtics honored Jones with a moment of silence before Friday afternoon’s game against the Phoenix Suns, showing a video tribute on the screen hanging among the championship banners above the parquet floor at the TD Garden. His No. 24, which was retired by the Celtics in 1969 while he was a still an active player, was also displayed on the monitor in the hushed arena before a still photo of him in a suit and the words “Sam Jones 1933-2021.”

“Another one of my dear friends lost,” Celtics broadcaster Cedric Maxwell wrote on Twitter. “Well, the banks are open in heaven this #NYE.”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Jones will be remembered as “one of the most prolific champions in all of professional sports.”

“His selfless style, clutch performances and signature bank shot were hallmarks of an incredible career,” Silver said. “Sam was a beloved teammate and respected competitor who played the game with dignity and class. We mourn the passing of a basketball giant and send our deepest condolences to Sam’s family and the Celtics organization.”

Celtics coach Red Auerbach discovered Jones when he went to North Carolina to scout the national champion Tar Heels for the upcoming draft. Auerbach said he was told that the best player in the state was actually on Hall of Fame coach John McLendon’s team at North Carolina Central.

Auerbach selected Jones in the first round of the 1957 draft, eighth overall, despite never seeing him play.

Jones went on to average 17.7 points and just under five rebounds in 12 years with the Celtics, leading the team in scoring five times — including the 1963 champions, who had eight Hall of Famers on the roster.

Jones was even better in the playoffs, averaging 18.9 points per game in the postseason. When he retired in 1969 at the age of 36, he was the only player in Celtics history to score more than 50 points in a game.

“You look at the championships and what he did, it’s obviously a big loss for the community here,” Celtics coach Ime Udoka said before Friday’s game.

Using a bank shot that was unconventional even then, Jones came to be known as “Mr. Clutch” after a series of game-winners, including a buzzer-beater to clinch the 1962 Eastern Conference finals. He hit an off-balance, wrong-footed jumper to win Game 4 of the ‘69 Finals; instead of heading to Los Angeles trailing 3-1, the Celtics tied the series against the Lakers at two games apiece and went on to win in seven.

Jones retired after that title, having won his 10 championships in 12 seasons. A five-time All-Star, he was was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1984.

Jones was named to the NBA’s 25th, 50th and 75th anniversary teams. His death comes a year after teammate Tommy Heinsohn and 13 months following the death of K.C. Jones.

Denis O’Dell, a British film producer and director who worked with The Beatles on the movie A Hard Day’s Night and other productions, has died at his home in Spain, his son said Friday. He was 98.

Arran O’Dell told The Associated Press that his father died overnight at his house in Almería, in southeast Spain. He said the family planned a local private service and a memorial service at a later date in the United Kingdom.

Denis O’Dell was an associate producer of A Hard Day’s Night, the Fab Four’s first film, and How I Won the War, in which John Lennon appeared as a supporting actor.

He produced the 1967 Beatles film Magical Mystery Tour, as well as The Magic Christian, which featured Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr.

O’Dell’s memoir of his time with the Fab Four came out in 2003 and was called At the Apple’s Core: The Beatles from the Inside.

O’Dell became a director of The Beatles’ new organization, Apple Corps, and the head of Apple Films.

White Rabbits

The rabbits are part of an art installation called “Intrude.” The largest is the “Mama” or “Bunzilla” and also called “Intrude XXL.”

The Parer Studio created them as an opportunity to juxtapose the rabbit’s fairytale-like innocence with the great destruction and imbalance they are causing in Australia.

It took about 40 minutes to inflate the largest one. They will on display through Jan. 28 — the day of the cultural trust’s Winter Gallery Crawl.

The rabbits will be deflated nightly and reinflated in the morning to protect them.

This is not the first time Pittsburgh has been home to a large inflatable. The Steel City welcomed a 40-foot rubber duck to the rivers near Point State Park in 2013 and the 92-foot-tall Vincent van Gogh floating head balloon in Schenley Park earlier this month.

Aubrey Tarbuck, 89, was first elected as a city councillor for Nunnery ward in 1966 and was the city's mayor from 2005 to 2006.

Mr Tarbuck, of Hallow, in Worcestershire, had previously been charged over a crash which caused the death of his wife Anne in 2017.

The council's current leader Marc Bayliss said thoughts were with his family and friends.

The authority said Mr Tarbuck had grown up in Worcester and attended the Royal Grammar School.

He later worked in Worcestershire County Council's audit department, as a senior officer at Lloyd's bank and at firm GR Pratley & Sons.

After losing his Nunnery seat in 1971, Mr Tarbuck rejoined the council in 1998 after being elected to St Peter's ward, the authority said.

'Very conscientious'

He was also a Malvern Hills district councillor for a number of years, it added.

Worcester City Council said he had been reunited with former colleagues from the authority at an event held at the Guildhall on 2 October, to mark the 400th anniversary of the signing of Worcester's city charter, which was attended by several former mayors

"I enjoyed working with Aubrey; he was very conscientious and his professional financial background helped to make him an asset to the many committees he served on," Mr Bayliss said.

"His ability to understand the complexities of projects, budgets and cash-flow added clarity in the run-up to several key decisions."

Mr Tarbuck had denied causing the death by dangerous driving of his wife Anne, who died when their Volvo was involved in a collision with another car on the A458 near The Plume Of Feathers Pub, at Harley, Shropshire, in October 2017.

A trial due to start in November 2019 had been delayed.

Philadelphia tourism leader Jeff Guaracino dies at 48 | AP News

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia tourism official and LGBTQ advocate Jeff Guaracino, whose creative ad campaigns helped draw diverse groups of visitors to the city, has died at 48.

Guaracino, the chief executive officer of Visit Philadelphia, helped launch a series of catchy, bold tourism slogans such as “Philly’s more fun when you sleep over.”

He died Tuesday of cancer, the agency said in a press release.

Guaracino authored two books on gay travel marketing. In a 2018 interview with Philadelphia magazine, he said that a 2003 campaign aimed at the gay community — featuring the slogan “Get your history straight and your nightlife gay” — had been a risk, but a calculated one.

“Philadelphia was already gay-friendly,” he said. “Philadelphia’s had a reputation since its very beginning that all are welcome.”

Mayor Jim Kenney, in a statement Wednesday, said Guaracino left an “indelible mark” on Philadelphia.

“A fierce champion and promoter of his hometown, Jeff was also a proud advocate for the LGBTQ community. With his trademark energy, charismatic charm, and never-ending wit, he helped make Philadelphia the welcoming city and destination that it proudly is today,” Kenney said.

Guaracino had led the tourism agency since 2018, having previously worked on its communications team and led Wawa Welcome America Inc., which runs the city’s Fourth of July celebrations. He also led Atlantic City Alliance after Superstorm Sandy hit the New Jersey coast in 2012.

Former WA Supreme Court Justice Mary Fairhurst dies at 64

OLYMPIA (AP) — Former Washington Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Fairhurst, who had been fighting cancer, has died. She was 64.

In a statement Washington Courts said Fairhurst died Tuesday surrounded by her family in Olympia. In January of 2020 she retired due to health reasons.

“Chief Justice Fairhurst was an inspiration to everyone. She was always positive yet with both feet on the ground,” Chief Justice Steven González said in a statement. “We are grateful for her leadership and for the time she shared so generously with all of us and send our condolences to her entire family.”

Fairhurst was first diagnosed with colon cancer in late 2008 and it later spread to a lung. After a final treatment in 2011 and several years of no evidence of disease, Fairhurst said that the cancer returned in 2018 — appearing in her lungs, liver, thyroid and spleen. She had continued to work while undergoing chemotherapy before opting to step down.

She was first elected to the court in 2002, and was elected chief justice by her colleagues in 2016.

In 2018, when the high court unanimously struck down the state’s death penalty as arbitrary and racially biased, Fairhurst wrote the lead opinion.

Fairhurst was a magna cum laude graduate of Gonzaga Law School and the youngest president of the Washington State Bar Association.

“I am deeply saddened about the loss of Justice Mary Fairhurst,” Gov. Jay Inslee said in a statement Wednesday. “She was a talented legal mind, a wonderful, thoughtful person and a dedicated public servant. Mary was deeply committed to her community and was always trying to find ways to support those most in need.”

When Fairhurst decided to step down she emailed colleagues and said the decision to retire was difficult.

“Everything is a miracle. Every day is a miracle,” she wrote. “Let’s not waste the days we have.”

PENNSYLVANIA — On Wednesday, Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced that 75% of counties in the commonwealth have signed on to join the opioid settlement that would bring over $1 billion to the state.

Teaching watchdogs said PE teacher Sean Aldridge, now 39, had shown no remorse for targeting four girls aged 13 to 16.

He was jailed for 12 years in July 2019 at Portsmouth Crown Court.

He has now been struck off for life by the Teaching Regulation Agency watchdog over multiple offences while teaching at Warblington School, Havant.

Peter Ward, who chaired the disciplinary hearing, said: 'The panel was satisfied that the conduct of Mr Aldridge was wholly contrary to the standards expected of the teaching profession.

'Teachers are placed in a privileged position of trust and Mr Aldridge had abused his position.

'Mr Aldridge's conduct was of the most serious and gravest kind.

'Mr Aldridge's actions in committing the offences had undoubtedly caused significant hurt and suffering to pupils who had been placed in his care.

'The panel considered that Mr Aldridge's behaviour in committing the offences would affect public confidence in the teaching profession.

'Further, that public confidence in the profession would be severely damaged in the event he was allowed to teach following his release from prison.

'In the light of the panel's findings against Mr Aldridge which involved 25 counts of sexual activity with pupils, there was a very strong public interest consideration in respect of the protection of pupils given the serious and multiple findings of sexual activity with pupils.

Fact Check-Fabricated Betty White tweet about ‘Big Bird’ being vaccinated originated as satire

Actor Betty White did not tweet in support of Sesame Street’s ‘Big Bird’ after the Twitter account for the fictional children’s show character said he had been vaccinated. The fabricated tweet originated as satire.

The satirical tweet screenshot reads: “As someone who had a 20 year [sic] relationship with the PBS star playing Big Bird, he never gave two sh* what anyone thought about his feathery a. #GoBiggie.”

Although some online users were aware the tweet was fabricated and satirical, others appeared to think it was genuine.

One Facebook user shared the fabricated tweet on Nov. 10 with the caption: “Betty White throwing down.” Another user said in the comments: “She is a treasure.” Another added: “You tell 'em, Betty!!” The post had gathered more than 1,000 likes and 165 shares by the time of publication ( here ).

Another Facebook user who shared the image said: “Betty White owning Ted Cruz over his complaint about the woke performance of Big Bird being vaccinated” ( here ).

The screenshot was shared by the Twitter account @FaithRubPol which clearly identifies itself as satirical. The description of the account reads: “If you like it, put a follow on it. Most of our screenshots are satire” ( twitter.com/FaithRubPol ).

The fabricated tweet was shared by the account on Nov. 9. Instead of the time of publication, which would be viewable at the bottom left of an authentic tweet, ‘Satire PM’ is viewable ( here ). ‘Faith Back Rub,’ the name of the satirical Twitter account, is also viewable on the bottom right corner.

The Twitter account for Big Bird tweeted on Nov. 6: “I got the COVID-19 vaccine today! My wing is feeling a little sore, but it'll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy. Ms. @EricaRHill even said I’ve been getting vaccines since I was a little bird. I had no idea!” ( here )

In response, Republican Senator Ted Cruz said: “Government propaganda…for your 5 year old! [sic]” ( here )
