Fully vaccinated and boosted Senator Cory Booker (D) on Sunday said he tested positive for Covid-19 after feeling symptoms on Saturday.

 

Booker said he was โ€œcertainโ€ that he would be doing much worse had he not been triple vaxxed.

 

โ€œI learned today that I tested positive for COVID-19 after first feeling symptoms on Saturday. My symptoms are relatively mild. Colorado Man, Two Women Arrested on Dozens of Child Sex Abuse Charges that Authorities Were First Told About 17 Years Ago

 

Decades of alleged child abuse in Colorado โ€” and possibly in many other states โ€” recently resulted in the arrests of three suspects. But according to court records obtained by local journalists, authorities knew about the alleged abuse for well over 15 years.

 

Allan Richard Long, 51, now faces 41 total counts related to the sexual abuse of children, a press release by the Arapahoe County Sheriffโ€™s Department indicates. According to law enforcement, he has โ€œvery specific tiesโ€ to City of Colorado Springs. Long stands accused of sexually victimizing at least seven children โ€” including his own children โ€” over the course of at least two decades.

 

Ginger Delgado, the sheriffโ€™s officeโ€™s public information officer, added that the defendant may have committed child sexual abuse crimes in Kansas, Wyoming and Montana โ€” and beyond those states as well โ€” due to his years working as a long haul truck driver. Now, authorities are putting out a call for any additional victims to come forward.

 

Also arrested were two women. Martha โ€œLoniโ€ Long, 52, has been charged with four counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, one count of aggravated incest, and one count of sexual exploitation of a child. Rona Culler, 55, was charged with 10 counts of sexual assault on a child as part of a pattern of abuse, five counts of aggravated incest, and one count of sexual exploitation of a child.

 

According to court documents obtained by Denver NBC affiliate KUSA, the abuse allegedly began in 2001 and included children between the ages of four and 17. One woman told police she had been molested since she was a child up until she was 21 years old.

 

Authorities were first told about Longโ€™s alleged abuse all the way back in July 2004 when one of the children told her grandmother she had been โ€œmolestedโ€ by the defendant. According to the KUSA report, that allegation was relayed to the Wyoming Department of Family Services. No law enforcement follow-up occurred, however, so no law enforcement action was taken.

 

In July 2007, law enforcement in Colorado explicitly chose not to follow up on other alleged abuse, KUSA noted. The father of one alleged victim reported Long to the Arapahoe County Sheriffโ€™s Office, but court documents obtained by the television station note that a detective detective โ€œappeared to take no further action in this case, based on his reports.โ€

Troops Find Religious Exemption for Vaccines Unattainable

WASHINGTON (AP) โ€” More than 12,000 military service members refusing the COVID-19 vaccine are seeking religious exemptions, and so far they are having zero success.

โ€ข That total lack of approvals is creating new tensions within the military, even as the vast majority of the armed forces have gotten vaccinated.

โ€ข The services, urgently trying to keep the coronavirus pandemic in check by getting troops vaccinated, are now besieged with exemption requests they are unlikely to approve. Meanwhile, troops claiming religious reasons for avoiding the shots are perplexed because exemptions are theoretically available, yet seem impossible to obtain.

โ€ข Caught in the middle are chaplains, who must balance the desire to offer compassionate care and guidance to personnel with the need to explain a complicated process that may well be futile. They also must assess requests from those who may be using religion as an excuse to avoid a vaccine that, while credited with preventing needless deaths, has become politically charged.

โ€ข โ€œSo many of them come in thinking that I make the decision, and if they make this case, that itโ€™s a done deal,โ€ said Maj. A'Shellarien Lang, an Army chaplain for the National Guard. โ€œI donโ€™t make the decision. And so when they find that out, itโ€™s a kind of game-changer in the sense that they know that the process has to continue.โ€

โ€ข According to the services, at least 30,000 service members are not yet vaccinated, but several thousand of those have gotten temporary or permanent medical or administrative exemptions approved. Of the remaining โ€” which is likely 20,000 or more โ€” thousands are working their way through the exemptions process, such as for religious reasons, or have flatly refused. Thatโ€™s about 1.5% of the roughly 1.3 million active duty troops.

โ€ข Obtaining a religious exemption is rooted in a process that predates the pandemic and has been used for decisions such as whether troops on duty can wear head coverings or beards for religious reasons.

โ€ข In addition to discussions with chaplains to determine whether they have a โ€œsincerely held belief,โ€ troops must meet with commanders and medical personnel. The final decision is made higher up the chain of command and is also based on whether the personโ€™s vaccine exemption will pose a risk to mission accomplishment, unit cohesion, the health and safety of the force, and military readiness.

โ€ข Even in the past, few troops have cleared those hurdles to get religious exemptions. And because the pandemic can directly affect the force's health and readiness, the bar is even higher, so military leaders arenโ€™t surprised by the lack of approved exemptions.

โ€ข But for the troops and chaplains, it's been a bit overwhelming.

โ€ข โ€œItโ€™s just been a lot of interviews, a lot of memos,โ€ Lang said. โ€œI find that my colleagues are stressed just because of the logistics of getting the memo done and having to make sure theyโ€™re keeping up with the process. Itโ€™s like rapid fire.โ€

โ€ข Air Force officials initially said religious exemption requests would be answered in 30 days. But they have gotten more than 4,700 requests โ€” far more than the other military services, and the logistics of the lengthy review process has made it difficult to meet that timeline. The Navy has received about 2,700 religious exemption requests, the Marine Corps has 3,100 and the Army about 1,700. Storied 29th Infantry Patch Possibly on Chopping Block Due to Confederate Ties

Thousands of soldiers with the 29th Infantry Division were among the first wave of troops who stormed the beaches of Normandy in the U.S.-led invasion of France in 1944.

 

When the doors to the landing craft opened, entire units were killed almost instantly by dug-in German forces. Scores of the division's troops were among the 3,000 killed in the opening hours of the assault on Fortress Europe in one of the most gruesome and heroic battles in U.S. military lore and immortalized in the opening scene of "Saving Private Ryan."

 

Now, in light of a reckoning over Confederate monuments for their racist history, the storied 29th Infantry Division patch โ€“ a yin-yang pattern with blue and grey โ€“ is being reviewed for potential retirement by the Naming Commission, a panel stood up by Congress last year to review rebel references across the military.

The panel is mostly focused on renaming 10 Army bases currently honoring Confederate leaders who waged war against the U.S., but other names and insignia are being reconsidered as well.

 

"Heraldry is indeed part of the Naming Commission's review, which includes patches such as the 29th Infantry Division patch. This is part of the commission's duty," Stephen Baker, a spokesperson for the commission, told Military.com in a statement.

 

The 29th Infantry, a National Guard division created during the World War I era, makes up the lion's share of the Virginia Guard. Units that would eventually make up the division were key players in colonial-era wars, from states scattered across the East Coast. Because of that, almost a century before those units' legendary battle in France, elements of what would become the 29th Infantry fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. Even today, the division's 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team is known as the "Stonewall Brigade" after being led by rebel Gen. Stonewall Jackson.

 

During World War I, troops in the newly formed division fell under the blue and grey insignia, which represented both the union and rebels now serving together after their families killed one another in some of the Civil War's largest battles.

 

Yet the division's history is complicated, with a legacy in most major American conflicts, as its infantry based out of Maryland was one of the first Army units ever stood up. The so-called Stonewall Brigade also recently saw one of the Army's first Black female infantry commanders. Today, the 29th Infantry has one of the most recognizable insignias in the National Guard and fought in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Early next year, the division plans to set its largest deployment since World War II to Africa, where U.S. operations against terrorist groups have largely reorientated.

 

It is unclear whether any other patches are under review. But the decision on whether to retire the 29th Infantry patch is more complicated than what some see as more clear-cut examples of scrubbing the Confederacy, an enemy force whose rebellion caused the most carnage out of any U.S. war, from honorary references such as monuments that were mostly erected during the Civil Rights era of the mid-20th century.

 

Military.com spoke with several Virginia National Guard troops who argued the patch now is more synonymous with the division's D-Day heroics. Senior Virginia Guard leadership are also waging a campaign to preserve the patch.

 

"We are currently preparing historical documentation and letters of support to educate the Commission about the importance of 29th ID patch," Maj. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the adjutant general of the Virginia Guard, said in a statement Wednesday. "We want them to understand what it means to the thousands of veterans who have worn the patch in service to our country, as well as how it serves as a symbol of liberation to our Allies in France."โ€ฆmore

Russian Military Planes Evacuate 200 People From Afghanistan

MOSCOW (AP) โ€” Russian military transport planes on Saturday delivered a shipment of humanitarian supplies to Afghanistan and flew back 200 Russians, Afghan students and others, the defense ministry said.

 

The ministry said that three Il-76 cargo planes will make stopovers in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan before flying to Moscow. It said the planes were carrying citizens of Russia and Kyrgyzstan who wanted to leave Afghanistan, and Afghan students enlisted in Russian universities.

 

Saturday's mission is the latest in a series of such Russian flights since August. Previous flights have delivered humanitarian cargo and evacuated a total of 770 citizens of Russia and other ex-Soviet nations.

 

Unlike many other countries, Russia hasnโ€™t evacuated its embassy in Kabul and its ambassador has maintained regular contacts with the Taliban since they took over the Afghan capital, Kabul, in August. Russia had worked for years to establish contacts with the Taliban, even though it designated the group a terror organization in 2003 and never took it off the list.

 

In October, Moscow hosted talks on Afghanistan involving senior representatives of the Taliban and neighboring nations, a round of diplomacy that underlined Moscowโ€™s clout in Central Asia.

Nearly 50 people catch COVID-19 aboard Royal Caribbean cruise

 

Four dozen people aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship tested positive for coronavirus when they returned to Miami on Saturday following a seven-day excursion, a report said.

 

All but one of those infected on the Symphony of the Seas was fully vaccinated, the cruise line said in a statement, and all patients quarantined following the positive results, NBC Miami reported.

 

โ€œEveryone who tested positive was asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, and we continuously monitored their health,โ€ Royal Caribbean said in a statement to the outlet.

 

The ship had 6,091 passengers and set sail on Dec. 11. Ninety-five percent of everyone aboard โ€“ including guests and crew members โ€“ were fully vaccinated.

 

Royal Caribbean said all crew members are fully vaccinated and the cruise line requires guests over 12 years old to also be fully inoculated.

 

Unvaccinated children under 12 are required to obtain two negative test results before boarding.

The 13 U.S. service members killed in a bombing at Kabul's airport as they worked to evacuate thousands of Americans, Afghans and allies ahead of the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan will receive the highest honor from Congress, the White House said Thursday.

 

President Joe Biden signed into law a bill awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to the sailor, soldier and 11 Marines killed Aug. 26 from an Islamic State suicide blast at Hamid Karzai International Airport, the White House announced. The bill was passed in the House in October and in the Senate last month without opposition in either chamber.

 

In a brief statement marking his approval of the bill, Biden thanked Rep. Lisa McClain, R-Mich., for introducing the bill Aug. 31, just hours after the final American ground troops left Afghanistan after some two decades of war. Biden also thanked Sens. Steve Daines, R-Mont., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., for their leadership in assuring the fallen service members were awarded the medal.

 

"Today's a great day!" McClain wrote in a Facebook post after Biden signed the bill. "I'm glad to see these brave men and women honored and remembered in a bipartisan fashion."

 

It was not immediately clear Thursday when the medals would be presented to the loved ones of Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Max Soviak, 22, Army Staff Sgt. Ryan Knauss, 23, and Marines Lance Cpl. They offer no "value".

 

I am an American citizen. I was taught to be a productive and helpful citizen amongst my peers. The more productive one is, the greater the earnings potential. There is no limit to the potential which stimulates legions of people to arrive on America's shores to have an opportunity to be free and live a happy and fruitful life. Most of the folks who arrive here come from societies made up of "shills" who simply do nothing for society but "keep it down" under a system of oppression so that the rulers of the oppressive system have an easier time of citizen control.

 

As I mentioned earlier. If you are a shill - stop. Consider your life. Do you want to be of value to the greater society or are your goals to simply be a zero? If the latter, I will warn you that your time on this Earth will be very limited. Capitol less than a month away, three retired Army generals called on leaders to take preventive measures, including to โ€œwar gameโ€ a โ€œpost-election insurrection or coupโ€ attempts.

 

โ€œThe potential for a total breakdown of the chain of command along partisan lines โ€“ from the top of the chain to squad level โ€“ is significant should another insurrection occur,โ€ former Major Gen. Paul Eaton, former Brigadier Gen. Steven Anderson and former Major Gen. Antonio Tagubathe wrote in The Washington Post on Friday in an opinion column raising the disturbing prospect of the U.S. military training for a confrontation against fellow Americans.

 

The generals went on to write, โ€œThe idea of rogue units organizing among themselves to support the โ€˜rightfulโ€™ commander in chief cannot be dismissed.โ€

 

Their comments come in light of the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol by a mob mostly made up of supporters of then-President Donald Trump seeking to overturn his defeat in the 2020 presidential election by disrupting the joint session of Congress assembled to count electoral votes that would formalize then-President-elect Joe Bidenโ€™s victory.

 

The incursion proved deadly for five people, including Ashli Babbit, 35, who died from a gunshot wound after being shot by a Capitol police officer while trying to climb through a door inside the Capitol near the House chamber.

 

Given the passions that arose in the contentious aftermath of the 2020 election, and the possibility of similar conditions in 2024, the retired generals warned the military needs to be prepared.

 

โ€œImagine competing commanders in chief โ€“ a newly re-elected Biden giving orders, versus Trump (or another Trumpian figure) issuing orders as the head of a shadow government,โ€ the former commanders wrote.

 

Itโ€™s a situation that could spiral out of control, the generals warned.

 

โ€œWorse, imagine politicians at the state and federal levels illegally installing a losing candidate as president.

 

โ€œโ€ฆ Under such a scenario, it is not outlandish to say a military breakdown could lead to civil war.โ€

 

However, the generals suggested such a situation could be avoided.

 

โ€œThe military and lawmakers have been gifted hindsight to prevent another insurrection from happening in 2024 โ€“ but they will succeed only if they take decisive action now,โ€ they emphasized.

 

They recommended a number of steps the military should take, concluding with:

 

โ€œFinally, the Defense Department should war-game the next potential post-election insurrection or coup attempt to identify weak spots. It must then conduct a top-down debrief of its findings and begin putting in place safeguards to prevent breakdowns not just in the military, but also in any agency that works hand in hand with the military.

 

โ€œThe military and lawmakers have been gifted hindsight to prevent another insurrection from happening in 2024 โ€” but they will succeed only if they take decisive action now.โ€

 

A coup or insurrection has largely been unthinkable in America, although the countryโ€™s severe political divisions and the disturbing events of Jan. 6 have caused some to rethink that notion.

Boris Johnson was under growing pressure last night not to impose lockdown restrictions that will ruin Christmas for the second year in a row, with one Cabinet minister threatening to quit if a new festive crackdown is imposed.

 

Tory MPs last night said any attempt to toughen rules before Christmas will provoke letters seeking to oust Mr Johnson as party leader.

 

The Prime Minister is reportedly considering three scenarios to tackle the Omicron variant, including restrictions on mixing indoors in England, a curfew on pubs and restaurants and even an immediate lockdown.

 

And Health Secretary Sajid Javid yesterday refused to rule out Covid measures coming into force before Christmas Day.

 

But ministers indicated they will not back new curbs. Rishi Sunak is understood to be arguing that they need to plot a clear route out of restrictions before they are imposed, while Liz Truss says she is 'uncomfortable' with the current curbs.

 

One Cabinet minister has even gone as far as to say they will resign if the PM introduced another full lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19.

 

And in a sign of the ever-growing threat of further restrictions, Mr Johnson, who has repeatedly insisted that Christmas Day would not be cancelled, cleared his diary today in order to hold emergency meetings with scientists and his advisers, reports The Mirror.

 

The warnings from MPs and Cabinet ministers come just 24 hours after Lord Frost, up to now a close ally of Mr Johnson, dramatically quit as Brexit Minister slating 'coercive' Covid curbs and high taxes.

 

Lord Frost walked out with a parting shot at the 'direction of travel' and saying he had hoped the end of lockdown would be 'irreversible'. His departure was described as a 'watershed moment' in what had been an extremely damaging week for Boris Johnson.

 

It comes as the official number of confirmed cases of the Omicron variant rose by nearly 50 per cent to 37,000 in just 24 hours.

 

Families are desperate to spend Christmas together after last year's Covid lockdown rules meant millions were forced to be apart or severely scale back their celebrations.

 

It is understood Mr Johnson is resisting calls for restrictions ahead of December 25, but there are mounting fears they will be imposed after that, spoiling New Year plans for millions.

 

Scientists are urging the Prime Minister to bring in restrictions quickly, amid warnings that hospitals will struggle to cope with rising infection numbers.

 

Mr Javid repeatedly declined to rule out imposing tough restrictions before Christmas as he warned there are 'no guarantees' Christmas Day will go ahead without a lockdown. The Health Secretary acknowledged that data about the Omicron variant remained incomplete โ€“ but suggested it might be necessary to make decisions before a full picture is available.

 

'If you wait until data is absolutely perfect it may well be too late,' he said.

 

The Health Secretary admitted 'everything is under review' after SAGE delivered a grim assessment that the number of infections could reach two million by the end of the month without tougher restrictions - floating a 'circuit breaker' ban on households mixing and closure of non-essential shops.

I was told I needed repairs on my 4-Runner after taking it in for a simple oil change. I asked them what kind of issue I could expect from a bad rack and pinion. They said something like the wheel would fall off. I asked how long that could take and was told it could take up to a year or longer. They were planning to change out the rack and pinion, two lower ball joints and 1 upper ball joint (why only 1 if there were two lower)?

 

Even though I questioned the need for the repair, I did buy the parts across the street because I had the money at the time. I don't know if they are connected, but I don't believe so.

 

I ended up finding an honest repair shop and was told it was simply a leaking seal, which cost me around $200-300.

 

I have waited 3 years and 3 mos. to take the parts back. Life got in the way and so did all the research we are doing.

 

I tried to return the parts last Friday and the two employees who were there didn't mention a restocking fee but they realized they didn't have enough money for the refund and said I could call at 5 to ascertain whether they took in enough money to do the refund.

 

When I called back, someone different answered the phone and asked for my invoice number and the invoice date. That employee said there may be a restocking fee due to the date of the purchase, BUT they have been holding onto my $225 core charge for the perfectly fine rack and pinion on my car. Note: the rack and pinion I was sold is painted black, whereas I noted all that were selling on Ebay were shiny steel.

 

So tomorrow I am going to deal with the owner.

 

What is a normal restocking fee? Should I be paying a restocking fee when he has held my $225 for the core charge on my rack and pinion for 3 years?

 

Lastly, who can I contact to report the shop who tried to take advantage of me because I am a woman?

Chicago's Ex-City Attorney Brands Mayor Lori Lightfoot A 'Disaster' After $2.9 Million Settlement Over Botched Police Raid

 

The former head city attorney for Chicago slammed Mayor Lori Lightfoot in a new op-ed, branding her tenure a "disaster" after the City Council voted on Wednesday to pay $2.9 million to a woman who was handcuffed by police while naked during a botched 2019 raid on her home, according to Fox News.

 

Mark Flessner, the former head city attorney, resigned after the Law Department attempted to conceal video of the raid on the wrong address.

 

The vote to pay the woman, Anjanette Young, came two days after a council committee advised that the city accept the settlement after Young's attorney agreed to the figure.

 

Lightfoot used the settlement at the taxpayer's expense to "jump-start her reelection campaign," Mark Flessner, who resigned after the Law Department attempted to withhold video of the raid on the wrong address, wrote in a recent op-ed for the Chicago Tribune.

 

Flessner outlined how officers executed a search warrant at the wrong address and Young was forced to stand for six seconds uncovered and then another 10 minutes handcuffed and covered with a blanket while officers secured the home. Recognizing the embarrassment Young must have felt and that she should have been compensated, Flessner said the settlement should have been far less, around $50,000. -Fox News

 

According to Flessner, Lightfoot "has made a deal with the national civil rights movement to raise money for her reelection โ€ฆ In exchange for national civil rights leaders donating millions of dollars to her campaign, she will do their bidding, like she did in the Young case. Chicago will be poorer for it."

 

"The mayor publicly criticizes those who work for her and provides little to no guidance. She belittles the City Council, the police and fire departments, and the teachers," Flessner added. "She has no professional respect for any of the hardworking, dedicated public servants who make this city run day to day. That is why her tenure has been a disaster."

 

In response, Lightfoot said at a Wednesday press conference that she asked for Flessner's resignation because she had "utterly lost confidence in his ability to function as the corporation counsel" and had acted to stop a media outlet from publishing the footage without her go-ahead. "Fundamentally, what was clear, is he just didnโ€™t see [Young]," Lightfoot said. "He didnโ€™t value her experience in that moment, as we all saw in that video," she said.
