WARREN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) โ€“ A train derailed in Warren County near the Bovina community around 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21.

 

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said several cars of the Kansas City Southern Freight Train derailed near Bovina Drive and I-20. He said some of the cars contained hazardous materials but there was no leakage.

 

The cause of the derailment is unknown and no injuries or other involved vehicles were reported.

 

Pace said neighbors who live south of I-20 will not be able to cross Bovina Drive until Wednesday, December 22. He recommended using Warrior Trail, instead.

West Midlands Railway said the train left the rails close to Leamington Spa station at about 23:00 GMT on Tuesday on the line to Nuneaton.

TEHRAN, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) โ€“ The Emergency Organization of Iran said that dozens have been injured as a subway train carrying passengers between Tehran and Karaj in northern Iran was derailed on Wednesday morning, according to Tasnim News Agency.

 

The Spokesman of the organization Mojtaba Khaledi said that 22 passengers have been injured, among whom, a man aged 52 is in critical condition due to a blow to his head, and the rest of the wounded have been transferred to hospital.

 

He noted that 15 ambulances have been stationed at the site of the incident, and air ambulances are in a state of alert.

 

Firefighters were also immediately sent to the site of the accident, and rescued around 18 people who were stuck in the cars due to damages to the doors and blockage of the exits, according to the Spokesman of the Tehran Fire Department Jalal Maleki.

 

The incident did not cause any fire, he added.

 

Kamran Azadi, deputy head of Tehran Urban and Suburban Operation Company (TUSROC), said that an express train running on the Tehran-Karaj line collided with a slow ordinary one at 7:10 a.m. local time (0340 GMT) en route to the Iranian capital and was derailed.

 

The slow train had entered the express one's route, he added, saying the TUSROC's staff are disengaging the cars step by step to reopen the line.

 

Due to the accident, the lines will not be providing services until further notice, according to an announcement by the public relations office of Karaj Municipality's Rail Transportation Department.

 

The TUSROC CEO Mehdi Shayesteh apologized to the injured and those who have faced difficulty due to the accident.

 

The cause of the accident will be announced later by TUSROC experts.

 

The Tehran Metro is one of the largest and busiest metro systems in the Middle East.

Earlier this month Reuters produced a report which didn't receive nearly enough attention among the American public - its contents would be sure to alarm most people concerned with the outbreak of yet more 'global catastrophes'. At the very least it's curious timing: amid the recent pandemic induced disruption in global supply chains, powerful nations and banking institutions decided to get together to run a global economic collapse scenario.

The report described thatIsraelled a "10-country simulation of a major cyber attack on the global financial system in an attempt to increase cooperation that could help to minimize any potential damage to financial markets and banks." It was centered on a catastrophic scenario in which "hackers were 10 steps ahead of us," according to one official who took part.

Dubbed "Collective Strength", the exercise was held in Jerusalem (after being moved from the original proposed location of Dubai) and included the participation also of the United States, UK, United Arab Emirates, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Thailand. Officials from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank and Bank of International Settlements were also involved.

The financial-geopolitical gaming simulation was set amid a scenario where sensitive data was leaked on the Dark Web, which combined with "fake news" reports going viral across societies, resulting in the collapse of global markets and an ensuing run on banks. Further, the simulation envisioned a series of devastating hacks targeting global foreign exchange systems, which also disrupted transactions between importers and exporters, according to Reuters.

The simulation set out a severe crisis period lasting about a week-and-a-half. Events were guided by a film and narrator which related the fast moving 'live' eventsโ€ฆ

"These events are creating havoc in the financial markets," said a narrator of a film shown to the participants as part of the simulation and seen by Reuters.

Further the report detailed of the simulation hosted under the aegis ofIsrael's Finance Ministry:

"The banks are appealing for emergency liquidity assistance in a multitude of currencies to put a halt to the chaos as counterparties withdraw their funds and limit access to liquidity leaving the banks in disarray and ruin," the narrator said.

The participants discussed multilateral policies to respond to the crisis, including a coordinated bank holiday, debt repayment grace periods, SWAP/REPO agreements and coordinated delinking from major currencies.

Ostensibly what was a "successful" ten day exercise was aimed toward each country being prepared to contain the global damage coming from some kind of major cyber event or threat. The key takeaway was that only through rapid global cooperation and open communication among nations, would there be opportunity to prevent total collapse of the global (or perhaps rather Western-led) financial system.

Interestingly, some participants said in reality they would in reality move faster than in the simulation in the instance of a cyber disruption of that scale. They said "in a real cyber attack situation governments would take action more quickly than in the simulation," according to Reuters. "One European financial official said that in the case of such of an attack, his country would not wait 10 days to act."

However, we doubt much of the Western public will feel "comforted" by global elites engaged in a simulated global meltdown 'readiness' scenario. Again, as if 2020 and 2021 under the pandemic weren't enough of a "real world" disaster and crisis scenario, one questions the need to game out a 'pretend' scenario in the first place.

Germanyโ€™s ethics council rules on mandatory vaccination

 

Germanyโ€™s leading ethics body has supported the idea of extending mandatory coronavirus vaccination to all adults, stressing, however, that direct coercion and use of โ€œphysical violenceโ€ on the unvaccinated must remain off-limits.

 

The countryโ€™s Ethics Council said Wednesday it was in favor of rolling out mandatory Covid jabs for all aged 18 and above. The council is an independent body, established under the federal government and the Bundestag, and provides advice on legal, ethical, social and scientific issues in Germany.

 

The idea of compulsory inoculation against Covid-19 was supported by a narrow majority of the bodyโ€™s members, 13 out of 24, while a more moderate expansion of the existing vaccination mandate received the support of 20 of the experts. Currently, Germany has a mandate in place only for certain groups of healthcare workers.

 

High vaccination rates are crucial for controlling the pandemic, the council stated, noting that โ€œthe German healthcare system is reaching its limits in many places.โ€

 

โ€œViral variants such as Omicron and expected further variants of the virus are forcing experts to constantly reassess their estimates of the future course of the pandemic,โ€ the body added.

 

At the same time, the council warned that mandatory vaccination โ€“ or a broader vaccine mandate โ€“ are not a โ€œpanaceaโ€ to fix the coronavirus situation. Ramping up vaccination can โ€œonly be justified if it is able to mitigate or prevent serious negative consequences of possible future pandemic waves.โ€ It also should come alongside other measures โ€“ namely a broad, easy-to-understand information campaign to promote taking a jab, the council stressed.

 

โ€œCompulsory vaccination cannot break the current fourth wave in the short term. US Army Developing World's First "Universal" COVID Vaccine As Original Jabs Await Final Approval

 

While the full approval of the best-selling mRNA vaccines by the FDA remains elusive, the US is already working on giving the 'Supersoldiers of Tomorrow' a leg up by developing a "universal" COVID vaccine that will supposedly be effective against all future variants. The US Army is wrapping up early clinical trials of the new jab in the coming weeks.

 

Named SpFN, for Spike Ferritin Nanoparticle, the new jab has reportedly shown promise in non-human primate trials and early human trial results are expected to begin in December, according to a press release from the US Army Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.

 

The vaccine is intended to be a jumping off point for a forward-thinking "pan-SARS" strategy that aims to address the current pandemic and acts as a first line of defense against variants of concern and similar viruses that could emerge in the future.

 

"The accelerating emergence of human coronaviruses throughout the past two decades and the rise of SARS-CoV-2 variants, including most recently Omicron, underscore the continued need for next-generation preemptive vaccines that confer broad protection against coronavirus diseases," said Dr. Kayvon Modjarrad, Director of the Emerging Infectious Diseases Branch at WRAIR, co-inventor of the vaccine and the US Army lead for SpFN. "Our strategy has been to develop a 'pan-coronavirus' vaccine technology that could potentially offer safe, effective and durable protection against multiple coronavirus strains and species."

 

SpFN entered Phase 1 human trials in April 2021. Early analyses, expected to conclude this month, will provide insights into whether SpFNโ€™s potency and breadth, as demonstrated in preclinical trials, will carry over into humans.

 

The data will also help researchers compare SpFNโ€™s immunity profile to those of other COVID vaccines already authorized for emergency use.

 

"This vaccine stands out in the COVID-19 vaccine landscape," Modjarrad said. "The repetitive and ordered display of the coronavirus spike protein on a multi-faced nanoparticle may stimulate immunity in such a way as to translate into significantly broader protection."

The Archbishop of Canterbury has suggested that refusing to take the coronavirus vaccine goes against the Christian faith, claiming that turning down the jab violates the principle of โ€œloving thy neighbourโ€.

 

The Most Reverend Justin Welby, the top bishop in the Church of England, said that getting vaccinated is a โ€œmoral issueโ€ which should supersede personal desires or rights.

 

โ€œItโ€™s not about me and my rights to choose, itโ€™s about how I love my neighbour. Vaccination reduces my chances โ€” doesnโ€™t eliminate โ€” but it reduces my chances of getting ill and reducing my chances of getting ill, reduces my chances of infecting others,โ€ Welby told ITV news on Tuesday evening.

 

โ€œItโ€™s very simple, so I would say yes, to love one another as Jesus said, get vaccinated, get boosted,โ€ he added.

 

The archbishop refused to comment on whether he believed not getting the vaccine without medical exemptions was a sin, however, he said that he agreed that it is a moral issue, saying: โ€œIโ€™m going to step out on thin ice here and say, yes, I think it is.โ€

 

โ€œNow obviously there are some people who, for health reasons, canโ€™t be vaccinated โ€“ different question,โ€ Welby caveated.

 

Responding to the pronouncement, Church of England curate Jamie Franklin told Breitbart London: โ€œI think the archbishopโ€™s comments betray a total lack of understanding of the objections to the COVID-19 vaccine which include safety concerns, concerns about the use of aborted foetal tissue in the development of said vaccines, and concerns about the use of coercion, scapegoating and persecution of those who are deemed to be non-compliant.

 

โ€œThe archbishop also appears completely unconcerned about the emergence of a biosecurity state in which the government has arrogated to itself the power to mandate medical treatments for its citizens, thereby fundamentally altering the nature of the relationship between the individual and the state,โ€ Franklin added.

 

The Church of England curate, who hosts the Irreverend podcast, went on to say: โ€œMany people are finding it more and more difficult to believe in the narrative pedalled by the government and corporate media and are wondering what on earth is going on.

 

โ€œThe archbishopโ€™s comment do not address any of these concerns and his repeated use of the phrase love your neighbourโ€™ is a misnomer in this context.โ€

The top Anglican has come under criticism for his stance during the lockdowns, in which churches were forced to turn away parishioners, even during the sacred Easter holiday.

 

In April of this year, Welby admitted that he should have done more to fight for the right of churches to remain open, acknowledging that he was too โ€œrisk averseโ€.

 

โ€œโ€I got quite a few things wrong at the beginningโ€ฆ I didnโ€™t push hard enough to keep churches available for at least individual prayer in the first lockdown. We also said clergy couldnโ€™t go in, and personally I feel I made a mistake with that,โ€ he said.

While the Church of England has so far come out in opposition to forcing worshipers to present vaccine passports, there has been a growing movement to implement health passes.

However, Durham Cathedral has announced that proof of vaccination, recovery from the virus, or a negative test result within the previous 48 hours would be required to attend Christmas services in the 928-year-old cathedral.

Millions of people sent into Covid lockdown in China

 

Authorities in Chinaโ€™s Xi'an have put the city on lockdown, closing all non-essential shops and barring all restaurants from opening, after reporting some 140 domestically transmitted Covid cases in the last 10 days.

 

In a press conference on Wednesday, officials in Xi'an announced the implementation of new measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19. All non-essential shops will be temporarily closed, while dine-in eateries will not be allowed open until the number of coronavirus infections falls.

 

From Thursday, only one person in each household can leave their home to visit essential shops every two days. Everyone else must remain home unless they have jobs deemed essential by the government, official Zhang Fenghu said.

 

City authorities also called on people not to leave Xiโ€™an unless they had taken a Covid-19 test and received a negative result. According to state broadcaster CCTV, local authorities had already persuaded some 7,000 people not to leave the city.

 

Large-scale conferences, training days, garden parties and dances are among a long list of events and activities prohibited by the local government in an effort to limit the spread of Covid. Businesses have also been encouraged to provide flexible work arrangements for employees.

 

Covid testing measures and temperature scanning will be stepped up, according to officials.

 

The northwestern city, home to 13 million people, has reported more than140 locally transmitted infections with confirmed symptoms since December 12. The cluster was reportedly caused by the Delta variant of Covid-19.

 

Beijing has signaled its desire to stamp out new Covid clusters as soon as they emerge. Recent research has also sparked concerns about the efficacy of Chinese vaccines against the latest variant of Covid-19, the highly contagious Omicron strain, compared to earlier versions of the virus.

Milwaukee County residents have officially asked Governor Tony Evers to fire District Attorney John Chisholm. Evers says heโ€™ll take the complaint seriously.

 

Wisconsin state law allows the governor to oust a district attorney for cause, but it requires a verified complaint filed by a taxpayer of the jurisdiction, which then starts a process. That document was handed over to the governor, asking Evers to remove Chisholm from office. โ€ฆ

 

โ€œI think itโ€™s in his best interest, and clearly, itโ€™s in the best interest of the people of southeast Wisconsin to fire John Chisholm and make southeast Wisconsin a safer place,โ€ said Orville Seymer, the complaint organizer who is also with conservative group Citizens for Responsible Government. Another conservative group, Empower Wisconsin, first reported the existence of the document, which FOX6 confirmed.

 

Seymer and six others signed the notarized, formal complaint asking Evers to remove Chisholm, pointing to the bail offered to the Waukesha Christmas Parade suspect before the attack.

Washington, DC, is reporting the highest coronavirus cases per capita in the nation, Wednesdayโ€™s data found, as a host of new restrictions are introduced.

 

The nationโ€™s capital is currently experiencing a spike in coronavirus cases, despite its history of being one of the mitigation-heavy cities in the country throughout the pandemic, including extended lockdowns and mask mandates.

 

According to the Washington Postโ€™s coronavirus tracker, D.C. has the highest daily reported cases in the nation per 100,000. The seven-day rolling average of daily new cases in the nationโ€™s capital is 133, representing a 396 percent increase in the last week. The U.S., overall, is reporting 47 per capita, while Rhode Island is reporting 118, New York is reporting 104, and New Hampshire is reporting 88 per 100,000, rounding out the top tier, per the Postโ€™s data:

 

This week, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) announced the reinstitution of the cityโ€™s indoor mask mandate, which began Tuesday and will last until January 31, 2022.

 

The additional measures announced included a mandatory booster shot for all D.C. government employees, contractors, interns, and grantees with โ€œno test-out option.โ€

 

Meanwhile, Florida, which never had a mask mandate in place nor extended lockdowns, is reporting a daily average of 39 coronavirus cases per capita.

Trump reveals why he didnโ€™t pardon Snowden or Assange

 

Former President Donald Trump has said he was โ€œvery close to going the other wayโ€ on issuing a pardon for Julian Assange or Edward Snowden before he left the White House, ultimately deciding not to grant clemency to either.

 

During an interview with the Daily Wireโ€™s Candace Owens this week, Trump was asked why he failed to issue pardons to WikiLeaks co-founder Assange and National Security Agency (NSA) whistleblower Snowden, which activists had been pushing for in the presidentโ€™s final months in office.

 

โ€œYou have two sides of it,โ€ Trump said. He described their separate situations as, respectively, a โ€œsort of a spy deal going onโ€ and โ€œsomebody thatโ€™s exposing real corruption,โ€ but without indicating which description applied to which person, concluding only that he felt โ€œa little bit more strongly about one than the other.โ€

 

Media reports earlier this year indicated Trump had been convinced by aides that an Assange or a Snowden pardon would upset Senate Republicans, who were gearing up to vote in his impeachment trial at the time. He also appeared to negatively reference Assange and โ€œspyingโ€ at one point, though he did not elaborate.

 

โ€œThere [were] some spying things, and there [were] some bad things released that really set us back and really hurt us with what they did,โ€ he said, according to the Daily Wire. It was alleged during the opening stages of Assangeโ€™s extradition hearing in London last year that the journalist had been offered a pardon in exchange for spinning the origin of hacked Democratic emails sent during the 2016 presidential campaign.

 

The White House denied the claim and said the president โ€œbarelyโ€ knew the Republican congressman through which the deal had allegedly been offered. The congressman, in turn, said he had made the proposal on his own initiative and the White House had not endorsed it.

 

Trump said he had ultimately decided to let the issue be handled in the courtroom. โ€œI guess the courts are actually doing that,โ€ he said.

 

Assange is currently being held in a UK prison, from where it was recently ruled he can be extradited to the US to stand trial on espionage charges for having published documents related to alleged US war crimes during the Afghanistan and Iraq campaigns. He faces up to 175 years in prison if convicted. His mental and physical health has deteriorated during his 20 months of incarceration, and he recently suffered a stroke.

 

Snowden, who has remained a fugitive from the US since whistleblowing on the NSA for unconstitutional spying on the American public in 2013, seemed a more likely candidate for a presidential pardon. The former president said last year he was โ€œlookingโ€ at Snowdenโ€™s case, noting that many felt he had โ€œnot been treated fairly.โ€ This about-face surprised many commentators, given that Trump had previously referred to the former NSA contractor as a โ€œspy who should be executed.โ€

Former New York Times reporter and outspoken critic of the US response to the Covid pandemic Alex Berenson is suing Twitter for suspending his account, claiming the platform โ€œacted on behalf of the federal government.

 

In the lawsuit, filed this week in the Northern District of California, Berenson accused Twitter of breach of contract and of violating his First Amendment rights.

 

The alleged breach of contract stems from the fact that Berenson claims a Twitter executive had repeatedly assured him that he would be free to express his views on the platform without fear of retaliation.

 

โ€œDespite the controversy around his statements, a senior Twitter executive repeatedly assured Mr. Berenson that the company backed his right to free expression and that he would continue to enjoy access to the platform,โ€ Berensonโ€™s lawyers said in the suit.

 

The independent reporter and best-selling author was reportedly suspended from Twitter in August over a tweet questioning whether Covid vaccines could actually prevent infection and transmission of the virus, referring to them as โ€œtherapeuticโ€ drugs. A Twitter spokesperson at the time said Berenson was permanently suspended for โ€œrepeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation rules.โ€

 

In the tweet, Berenson wrote: โ€œIt doesnโ€™t stop infection. Or transmission. Donโ€™t think of it as a vaccine. Think of it โ€“ at best โ€“ as a therapeutic with a limited window of efficacy and terrible side effect profile that must be dosed IN ADVANCE OF ILLNESS.โ€

 

Berenson argues the platform acted on behalf of the Biden administration in censoring his posts, as the president himself had criticized โ€œmisinformationโ€ about Covid spreading on social media only days before the authorโ€™s suspension.

 

He is also claiming in his lawsuit that a California law applying to โ€œcommon carriersโ€ applies to Twitter. The legislation, dating back to 1872, regulates companies that โ€œoffer to the public to carry persons, property, or messages.โ€

 

Berensonโ€™s lawyers argue the legislation is relevant to the suit as the โ€œcourts have repeatedly applied the 1872 law to telephone companies and other technologies that did not exist at the time it was enacted,โ€ adding that Twitter does not have the publishing freedom typically afforded due to the common carrier law.

 

Berenson has drawn the ire of some political activists and health officials for his views on the pandemic. The author has criticized media coverage of Covid-19 and its lethality, as well as government lockdowns and vaccine mandates. The Atlantic dubbed him โ€œthe pandemicโ€™s wrongest manโ€ in April.

UK to Offer Homeless Accommodation in Exchange for Getting Vaccinated

 

The British government will begin offering free temporary accommodation to homeless people on the condition that they come forward to be vaccinated against the Chinese coronavirus.

 

While the government is currently providing free housing โ€” irrespective of vaccination status โ€” to tens of thousands of alleged asylum seekers, homeless Britons will need to agree to get vaccinated to receive the same benefit.

 

A ยฃ28 million funding increase to the governmentโ€™s Protect and Vaccinate programme will see additional money provided to set up clinics, ramp up outreach in homeless shelters, and to subsidise accommodation for rough sleepers who get vaccinated, The Telegraph reported.

 

The government is said to be concerned that homeless people have refused the jab over fears of experiencing side effects while being on the streets.

 

Hailing the move, the president of the association of public health, Professor Jim McManus said: โ€œItโ€™s important to get people off the streets when they have a vaccine, in case they have the normal flu-like reaction. Trying to keep yourself warm, when your body is having an immune response to a vaccine, and when youโ€™re in the freezing cold, is awful.โ€

 

The homeless population is once again facing another rough winter, with many shelters shutting their doors due to fears over the Omicron variant.

 

Last week, the charity Glass Door told The Guardian that it has been forced to close its usual service, citing concerns about being able to enforce socially distancing and other concerns over the new variant.

 

Britainโ€™s largest provider of voluntary homeless shelters, Housing Justice said that it has been forced to cut the number of beds provided in half since the pandemic, with just 950 beds currently open to rough sleepers.

I will only speak from my perspective, so here's what I've noticed:

 

Bloated notes have been called out many times before. Shill bakers have been called out many times before. There's barely anything that gets done. As time went on most anons got tired of calling all of that out. Why? I think we've got to take into consideration on what is happening irl as well. It has been exhausting on both ends.

 

I'm not saying "thats just the way it is", I'm just stating that the current situation is as such. Night shift has been affected by this very very heavily. I'm usually a NS anon. I myself used to assist in collecting notes. Over the past few months I've had to deal with a lot of irl issues and ever since then I've barely been able to fully contribute myself.

There's some truth to this.

 

Day in and day out, night in and night out, I've seen countless of Anon's posting up about how demoralised they are. A lot of em are shills sure, but at the same time I see that a lot of Anons tend to reply to those postings. It affects the whole energy/focus of the board when this happens. And this leads to the shills easily sliding their way in. In the beginning, we used to be told to NEVER CONCERNFAG. (Yes, I understand the irony of this.) There's a reason why that has been stated non stop during the beginning of all of this. Nobody calls out the concernfags anymore. Nobody calls out actual shills anymore. This has been a recurring issue that has been going on for months now.

 

What I'm trying to get at is that this whole issue is not just about the current state of QR. It's the current state of everything. It's not an easy task doing this. It's one thing to say "Anons need to pay more attention to how shills act on the board and be more vocalised about the on going events that surround it" and all that stuff, it's a whole other thing to get Anons to actually act on it. I'd say that this is more true now than ever. It's because of where we are at currently; the current state of affairs in this clown world. A lot of Anons are dealing with a lot of irl stuff as well. I can appreciate that. In the end of the day this whole thing is purely voluntary.

 

Having said all that though, I don't doubt Anons abilities on this board one bit. We've all gone through hell and back and yet we still in here. And if I'm being completely honest, I haven't gotten the slightest fucking idea of how in the universal fuck we even managed to pull through after all the bullshit that we've been through over the years. So yeah, I've got no doubt that we'll definitely be able to sort this whole thing out one way or another.

 

As for myself, I'm just here because I give a damn. That's all there is to it really. This is just my observation on the current state of things here.

 

I wish you guys well. It hasn't been easy, but having a place like this during a time like this has made me appreciate everything that you Anons do. Especially the shitposting. Trask entered the plea to the misdemeanor offense before Kalamazoo County Circuit Judge Gary Giguere, court officials said. He was sentenced to time served and ordered to pay court costs.

The Taihe Institute was one of three Chinese think tanks behind an August report that deemed the United States a "failed country" for its pandemic response and claimed that COVID-19 leaked from a military base in Maryland.

 

HDI CEO Joseph Merante, a former career U.S. foreign service officer, spoke at the Taihe Institute's annual Beijing-based Taihe Civilization Forum every year between 2017 and 2020. During his talk at the 2017 Taihe Civilizations Forum, Merante urged China to improve its "cultural soft power" and worldwide influence by making better use of cultural and artistic exchanges. And in his 2018 talk, Merante highlighted the HDI's cooperation with Chinese businesses such as the video game developer Perfect World.

 

The HDI was christened with its intentionally "memorable" name in 1998 with the mission of "putting the pieces back together" of broken international relations and finding solutions to humanitarian problems. The group says it has hosted over 550 members of Congress and staffers for summits with senior United Nations officials, in addition to organizing Congressional delegations to more than 30 countries.

 

Members of the HDI Congressional Advisory Board, which as of late last week included seven Republicans and 26 Democrats, informally advise the nonprofit organization on its programming and are "active in HDI's domestic and international activities," the HDI said in November.

 

There is no evidence that HDI has ever sponsored congressional travel to China, and Republican members of the HDI Congressional Advisory Board told the Washington Examiner they weren't aware of the group's ties with the Taihe Institute, nor had they discussed any matters related to China with the group.

 

Maryland Republican Rep. Andy Harris said Tuesday he wasn't even aware he was a member of the HDI's Congressional Advisory Board and was looking to have his name removed from the board.

 

"It comes as a complete surprise to me that I am listed as a member. In a blog post earlier this week, former Labor Secretary Robert Reich noted that last year Manchin โ€œmade half a million dollars in Enersystems dividends (roughly three times the $174,000 salary he made last year as a senator).โ€

 

Reich cited such incomeโ€”as well as the fact that Manchin โ€œcollects more campaign money from coal, oil, and gas companies than any other senatorโ€โ€”as possible explanations behind the West Virginia Democratโ€™s decision to block his partyโ€™s flagship legislation, which he announced in an appearance on the right-wing network Fox News.

 

Democratic leaders are still working to salvage the Build Back Better Act, but itโ€™s unclear how much they would have to water down the already badly weakened legislation in order to win Manchinโ€™s support, needed in a Senate that is split 50-50 between the two major parties. The death of the Build Back Better package would likely push millions of children back into poverty, potentially blow a $60 billion hole in the U.S. economy, and thwart what advocates see as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to pass meaningful climate legislation.

On, Dec. 20, 2021, CBP officers assigned to the Hidalgo International Bridge encountered a white Dodge Ram, driven by a male 49-year-old U.S. citizen arriving from Mexico. A CBP officer referred the conveyance for further inspection, which included utilizing non-intrusive imaging (NII) equipment and screening by a (canine team). After physically inspecting the conveyance, officers discovered eight packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 44.84 pounds (20.34 kg) concealed within the vehicle.

 

CBP OFO arrested the individual, seized the narcotics and vehicle, and the case remains under investigation by agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI).
