  2. This is very good

  3. It actually just hit me reading this how bad it is; I mean I know, have known, but since Oct 17 I have been focused on all the daily happenings and never looked at the 'broad' picture of just how fucked the USA is right now

White House officials are reportedly preparing to ask Congress for tens of billions of dollars in additional COVID-19 aid.

The funding plan hasn’t been finalized but is likely to focus on COVID therapeutics — such as an antiviral pill — and ramping up vaccine distribution, sources told the Washington Post on Friday.

Money to help with the global vaccine effort is also expected to be included in the plan, the sources added.

Officials in the White House’s Office of Management and Budget and the Department of Health and Human Services are working on the longer-term spending package. The formal request is expected to be made in the coming weeks.

Sources told the outlet the additional funding is necessary due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, which has caused a surge in COVID-19 cases. The White House has said it currently has sufficient funds to deal with the outbreak.

Washington state hospitals near 'crisis' as COVID cases surge, officials say

SEATTLE — Washington hospitals may soon be forced to make tough decisions about patient care because of the latest explosion in COVID cases, which health officials said Thursday is depleting resources at many health care facilities.

Many hospitals simply have too many patients, prompting officials to sound the alarm.

At a news conference Thursday, doctors said the state is approaching a “crisis situation” as many hospitals remain at or above capacity.

One doctor said the next step could include implementing Crisis Standards of Care, which would change how hospitals handle some patients. It will be up to state officials to activate the designation.

“We are closer to that than we ever have been before at other times of extreme stress during this pandemic,” said Dr. Steven Mitchell, who is with the Washington Medical Coordination Center and Harborview Medical Center and who help move patients to different facilities when needed,

He said Washington is closer than ever to implementing its new care standards, which the Washington State Hospital Association agreed with.

“We do not have room at this moment to care for even a small number of new COVID patients,” said Cassie Sauer, president and CEO of the group

>This is of course absolute bullshit. I'd like to get actual numbers for each hospital
