Biden Regime Launches New 'Domestic Terrorism Unit' To Confront 'Anti-Authority Ideologies'

While testifying before Congress on Tuesday morning, Deputy U.S. Attorney General Matt Olsen announced the formation of a new “domestic terrorism unit” that will “augment” the government’s existing approach.

Olsen — a former Obama NSA official — personally directed the formation of the task force, according to his statements before Congress.

“This group of dedicated attorneys will focus on the domestic terrorism threat, helping to ensure that these cases are handled properly and effectively, coordinated across the Department of Justice and across the country.”

“We’ve seen a growing threat from those who are motivated by racial animus, as well as those who ascribe to extremist anti-government and anti-authority ideologies,” Olsen said The deputy AG proudly announced that the federal government has arrested and prosecuted more than 700 Americans following the “attack” on the Capitol last January.

“The Department of Justice has undertaken an effort unprecedented in its scope and complexity, to hold accountable, all of those who engaged in criminal acts,” Olsen said in reference to the Capitol protests.

“We continue to methodically gather and review the evidence,” Olsen said.

He later said the country is facing an “elevated threat” from domestic extremists.

Olsen then praised the DOJ’s “Civil Rights Division”, saying the division has “led the prosecution of some of the most heinous attacks in recent years.”

“While there is no single federal crime that is labelled ‘domestic terrorism’, the criminal code does define domestic terrorism, and this definition does provide us with expanded authorities, including enhanced sentencing for terrorism offenses,” Olsen said.

He then said the department was bound by their “commitment to protecting civil liberties and our duty to ensure equal and impartial justice.”

“We prosecute individuals for engaging in violent behavior, not for their beliefs or associations,” Olsen said.

He then added that the government “would not hesitate” to prosecute those who fit the regime’s definition of domestic terrorists.

Ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer wants judge to toss alleged Russian escort’s lawsuit

Eliot Spitzer has asked a judge to consider tossing the rest of a lawsuit filed by his accuser and Russian escort Svetlana Travis — as parts of her suit were just made public.

The alleged $5,000-a-night call girl filed suit against the disgraced former governor in 2020 but the case was filed under seal and only partially made public recently after The Post and another media outlet petitioned a judge.

In October, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Paul Goetz ordered that the portions of Travis’ suit relating to her bombshell allegations that Spitzer choked her during a sex session gone wrong at the Plaza Hotel on Feb. 13, 2016, would be unsealed.

Goetz’s order also dismissed all of Travis’ allegations against Spitzer except the one relating to the Plaza Hotel incident.

An unsealed, but still heavily redacted, version of Travis’ suit was filed on Dec. 16 but only recently made accessible to the public.

A letter from Spitzer’s lawyer Adam Kaufmann asking Goetz to allow him to file a motion to dismiss the rest of her suit was also made public.

“Plaintiff launched this action as part of her effort to extract revenge against Mr. Spitzer, his family and anyone remotely close to him after she was prosecuted and jailed for her extortive scheme against Mr. Spitzer and another victim,” Kaufmann wrote in a letter to Goetz only made public this week.

“Plaintiff’s own filings to the court demonstrate that her single remaining claim cannot be sustained,” Kaufmann wrote asking to file a motion for summary judgment.

Of the newly unsealed suit, Kaufmann said, “There is nothing new in these allegations. They have been investigated by law enforcement and dismissed as complete fabrications.

“In fact, Ms. Travis herself sent an email unequivocally apologizing and retracting the allegations the day after she initially made them,” Kaufmann continued in a statement. “We are pleased the court dismissed most of the counts and are confident the rest of the case will follow.”

Travis was sentenced to 90 days time served in 2017 after she pleaded guilty to attempted petit larceny for trying to steal rent from another ex-lover. The plea deal meant she didn’t have to cop to charges accusing her of extorting $400,000 from Spitzer to keep quiet about their affair.

In 2017, Spitzer filed suit against Travis accusing her of fraud and extortion but he dropped the case just a few months later.

Travis’ lawyer Joseph Murray filed a response letter Tuesday opposing Spitzer’s request to make a motion for summary judgment, alleging that Spitzer’s side has filed motions which have delayed the case from moving forward.

Murray also disputed all of Kaufmann’s assertions from his letter alleging that Travis, not Spitzer, was the real victim and claiming that the ex-guv threatened Travis to keep her from fully cooperating with officials over the Feb. 13 incident.

Quebec to impose 'significant' financial penalty against people who refuse to get vaccinated

Quebec Premier François Legault announced the province will apply a "significant" financial penalty for residents who refuse to get vaccinated against COVID-19 for non-medical reasons.

The premier made the announcement at a news conference Tuesday afternoon, describing the measure as a "health-care contribution," though the exact amount has not yet been determined.

The province is consulting with the finance minister and its legal advisers about implementing the measure, but Legault already said $50 or $100 "is not significant" enough for him.

The tax would apply to all adults in Quebec who refuse to get their first dose of the vaccine "in the next few weeks," according to the premier. People who have medical exemptions to vaccination will not have to pay the tax.

The unvaccinated "will have a bill to pay because there are consequences on our health-care network and it's not up to all Quebecers to pay for this," the premier said.

"It's a question of equity because right now, these people, they put a very important burden on our health-care network. And I think it's normal that the majority of the population is asking that there be a consequence," he continued.

"And yes, we will continue to look at spreading the use of the vaccine passport, but I think we have to go further."

QUEBECERS THREATEN COURT CHALLENGE

In a Facebook group for thousands of unvaccinated Quebecers, people described the move as "psychological warfare" and said they wanted to challenge it in court.

Legal experts told CTV News that the issue raises a lot of interesting questions but is far from legally clear-cut, with constitutional lawyer Julius Grey saying the outcome would be a “close call” if it's challenged in court.

One unvaccinated man told CTV News that the tax won't spur him to get a shot.

It will have "no impact on my decision," said Marc Belec Lafrance, who lives in Saint-Eustache, north of Montreal.

"They've taken everything away from me. And they can continue. It wouldn't change anything," he said.

Afghan Refugee Allegedly Committed ‘Unlawful’ Act w/ Child at Marines Base

The Defense Department Inspector General reported a “major criminal security incident” at Marine Corps Base Quantico when an Afghan refugee engaged in “what appeared to be an unlawful act with a child,” Military.com reported.

The military base transferred the Afghan suspect to the FBI‘s custody.

President Joe Biden imported more than 120,000 Afghan refugees from Afghanistan after the Taliban reconquered the nation in a Blitzkrieg-style takeover.

The Quantico base spent more than $188 million to house fewer than 3,800 Afghan nationals—at a cost of nearly $50,000 per person—from August to late December.

Seven other military bases housed another 67,000 Afghans. These are Fort Lee and Fort Pickett in Virginia; Fort McCoy in Wisconsin; Fort Bliss in Texas; Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey; Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico; and Camp Atterbury in Indiana.

Five bases still house Afghans.

The military personnel had to drop their normal activities to care for the Afghans, Stripes.com reported.

“The extensive use of the unit’s workforce disrupted its normal operations at both MCB Quantico and Camp Lejeune, which could impede future missions,” the report said.

The federal government paid for the refugees to have internet access, three hot meals a day, and entertainment, including movie nights, dances, and sporting events.

The Democrat-controlled Congress has so far appropriated $13.3 billion in money stripped from the Defense Department, State Department, and Homeland Security Department to resettle the Afghans.

The Defense Department has reimbursed Quantico for about $138 million.

Democrats want to spend more money to resettle the Afghans, who often do not hold traditional American values, across the nation.

“Now Democrats want another $7 billion for the Afghan resettlement process on top of the $6 billion they have already spent in the last three months. For reference, Oklahoma’s total budget is $8.83 billion — for a state of 4 million people,” Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., said in a statement in December.

U.S. Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd was never formally interviewed by the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department before being cleared of wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of Ashli Babbitt during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, according to a report from Real Clear Investigations.

In an interview with the outlet, Babbitt family attorney Terry Roberts said he was surprised at how “skimpy” Byrd’s investigative file is.

“He didn’t provide any statement to [criminal] investigators, and they didn’t push him to make a statement,” Roberts also said.

Roberts’ claims appear to be backed up by MPD documents obtained by Judicial Watch, which confirm that Byrd “declined to provide a statement.”

An MPD spokesperson confirmed that Byrd did not cooperate with internal affairs or FBI agents.

“MPD did not formally interview Lt. Byrd. … He didn’t give a statement while under the U.S. Attorney’s Office investigation,” said D.C. MPD communications Director Kristen Metzger said.

A married couple has appeared 'emotionless' in a Queensland court on charges of alleged murder and torture after an eight-year-old girl was found dead in a suburban home.

Jason Richard Struhs, 50, and Kerrie Elizabeth Struhs, 46, appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court looking 'emotionless' and Mr Struhs refusing an offer of legal counsel to represent him, the The Toowoomba Chronicle reported.

The couple was arrested after the eight-year-old girl's lifeless body was discovered inside a home in Rangeville in south-east Queensland last Saturday afternoon.

They appeared in court via video link from the Toowoomba Police watch house, where they have been in custody since their arrest.

Officers were called to the home in Toowoomba's south-eastern suburbs about 5.30pm on Saturaday, with a neighbour witnessing a paramedic running from the home 'in tears' after finding the girl's body.

Urged by Toowoomba Magistrate Kay Philipson on Wednesday to seek legal aid for the 'very serious matters', Mr Struhs twice declined to do so, saying 'No thankyou' and informing her, 'I won't be applying for bail'.

Jason and Kerrie Struhs have previously lived in the Queensland town of Gatton, where Mrs Struhs ran a business and was a market stallholder.

'Within minutes there were police everywhere,' the neighbour told The Toowoomba Chronicle.

Queensland Police launched an investigation with the support of the Child Trauma Unit and the Homicide Investigation Unit and both adults were charged on Tuesday.

Police said the man and woman, who were both from Toowoomba, were known to the child.

The neighbour said he saw a large crowd gathered outside the home on Saturday.

'The family kept to themselves,' he said. 'No-one in our street knows them or what happened.'
