Biden Regime Launches New 'Domestic Terrorism Unit' To Confront 'Anti-Authority Ideologies'

 

While testifying before Congress on Tuesday morning, Deputy U.S. Attorney General Matt Olsen announced the formation of a new “domestic terrorism unit” that will “augment” the government’s existing approach.

 

Olsen — a former Obama NSA official — personally directed the formation of the task force, according to his statements before Congress.

 

“This group of dedicated attorneys will focus on the domestic terrorism threat, helping to ensure that these cases are handled properly and effectively, coordinated across the Department of Justice and across the country.”

 

“We’ve seen a growing threat from those who are motivated by racial animus, as well as those who ascribe to extremist anti-government and anti-authority ideologies,” Olsen said The deputy AG proudly announced that the federal government has arrested and prosecuted more than 700 Americans following the “attack” on the Capitol last January.

 

“The Department of Justice has undertaken an effort unprecedented in its scope and complexity, to hold accountable, all of those who engaged in criminal acts,” Olsen said in reference to the Capitol protests.

 

“We continue to methodically gather and review the evidence,” Olsen said.

 

He later said the country is facing an “elevated threat” from domestic extremists.

 

Olsen then praised the DOJ’s “Civil Rights Division”, saying the division has “led the prosecution of some of the most heinous attacks in recent years.”

 

“While there is no single federal crime that is labelled ‘domestic terrorism’, the criminal code does define domestic terrorism, and this definition does provide us with expanded authorities, including enhanced sentencing for terrorism offenses,” Olsen said.

 

He then said the department was bound by their “commitment to protecting civil liberties and our duty to ensure equal and impartial justice.”

 

“We prosecute individuals for engaging in violent behavior, not for their beliefs or associations,” Olsen said.

 

He then added that the government “would not hesitate” to prosecute those who fit the regime’s definition of domestic terrorists.

Ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer wants judge to toss alleged Russian escort’s lawsuit

 

Eliot Spitzer has asked a judge to consider tossing the rest of a lawsuit filed by his accuser and Russian escort Svetlana Travis — as parts of her suit were just made public.

 

The alleged $5,000-a-night call girl filed suit against the disgraced former governor in 2020 but the case was filed under seal and only partially made public recently after The Post and another media outlet petitioned a judge.

 

In October, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Paul Goetz ordered that the portions of Travis’ suit relating to her bombshell allegations that Spitzer choked her during a sex session gone wrong at the Plaza Hotel on Feb. 13, 2016, would be unsealed.

 

Goetz’s order also dismissed all of Travis’ allegations against Spitzer except the one relating to the Plaza Hotel incident.

 

An unsealed, but still heavily redacted, version of Travis’ suit was filed on Dec. 16 but only recently made accessible to the public.

 

A letter from Spitzer’s lawyer Adam Kaufmann asking Goetz to allow him to file a motion to dismiss the rest of her suit was also made public.

 

“Plaintiff launched this action as part of her effort to extract revenge against Mr. Spitzer, his family and anyone remotely close to him after she was prosecuted and jailed for her extortive scheme against Mr. Spitzer and another victim,” Kaufmann wrote in a letter to Goetz only made public this week.

 

“Plaintiff’s own filings to the court demonstrate that her single remaining claim cannot be sustained,” Kaufmann wrote asking to file a motion for summary judgment.

 

Of the newly unsealed suit, Kaufmann said, “There is nothing new in these allegations. They have been investigated by law enforcement and dismissed as complete fabrications.

 

“In fact, Ms. Travis herself sent an email unequivocally apologizing and retracting the allegations the day after she initially made them,” Kaufmann continued in a statement. “We are pleased the court dismissed most of the counts and are confident the rest of the case will follow.”

 

Travis was sentenced to 90 days time served in 2017 after she pleaded guilty to attempted petit larceny for trying to steal rent from another ex-lover. The plea deal meant she didn’t have to cop to charges accusing her of extorting $400,000 from Spitzer to keep quiet about their affair.

 

In 2017, Spitzer filed suit against Travis accusing her of fraud and extortion but he dropped the case just a few months later.

 

Travis’ lawyer Joseph Murray filed a response letter Tuesday opposing Spitzer’s request to make a motion for summary judgment, alleging that Spitzer’s side has filed motions which have delayed the case from moving forward.

 

Murray also disputed all of Kaufmann’s assertions from his letter alleging that Travis, not Spitzer, was the real victim and claiming that the ex-guv threatened Travis to keep her from fully cooperating with officials over the Feb. 13 incident.

Quebec to impose 'significant' financial penalty against people who refuse to get vaccinated

 

Quebec Premier François Legault announced the province will apply a "significant" financial penalty for residents who refuse to get vaccinated against COVID-19 for non-medical reasons.

 

The premier made the announcement at a news conference Tuesday afternoon, describing the measure as a "health-care contribution," though the exact amount has not yet been determined.

 

The province is consulting with the finance minister and its legal advisers about implementing the measure, but Legault already said $50 or $100 "is not significant" enough for him.

 

The tax would apply to all adults in Quebec who refuse to get their first dose of the vaccine "in the next few weeks," according to the premier. People who have medical exemptions to vaccination will not have to pay the tax.

 

The unvaccinated "will have a bill to pay because there are consequences on our health-care network and it's not up to all Quebecers to pay for this," the premier said.

 

"It's a question of equity because right now, these people, they put a very important burden on our health-care network. And I think it's normal that the majority of the population is asking that there be a consequence," he continued.

 

"And yes, we will continue to look at spreading the use of the vaccine passport, but I think we have to go further."

QUEBECERS THREATEN COURT CHALLENGE

 

In a Facebook group for thousands of unvaccinated Quebecers, people described the move as "psychological warfare" and said they wanted to challenge it in court.

 

Legal experts told CTV News that the issue raises a lot of interesting questions but is far from legally clear-cut, with constitutional lawyer Julius Grey saying the outcome would be a “close call” if it's challenged in court.

 

One unvaccinated man told CTV News that the tax won't spur him to get a shot.

 

It will have "no impact on my decision," said Marc Belec Lafrance, who lives in Saint-Eustache, north of Montreal.

 

"They've taken everything away from me. And they can continue. It wouldn't change anything," he said.

Afghan Refugee Allegedly Committed ‘Unlawful’ Act w/ Child at Marines Base

 

The Defense Department Inspector General reported a “major criminal security incident” at Marine Corps Base Quantico when an Afghan refugee engaged in “what appeared to be an unlawful act with a child,” Military.com reported.

 

The military base transferred the Afghan suspect to the FBI‘s custody.

 

President Joe Biden imported more than 120,000 Afghan refugees from Afghanistan after the Taliban reconquered the nation in a Blitzkrieg-style takeover.

 

The Quantico base spent more than $188 million to house fewer than 3,800 Afghan nationals—at a cost of nearly $50,000 per person—from August to late December.

 

Seven other military bases housed another 67,000 Afghans. These are Fort Lee and Fort Pickett in Virginia; Fort McCoy in Wisconsin; Fort Bliss in Texas; Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey; Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico; and Camp Atterbury in Indiana.

The military personnel had to drop their normal activities to care for the Afghans, Stripes.com reported.

 

“The extensive use of the unit’s workforce disrupted its normal operations at both MCB Quantico and Camp Lejeune, which could impede future missions,” the report said.

 

The federal government paid for the refugees to have internet access, three hot meals a day, and entertainment, including movie nights, dances, and sporting events.

 

The Democrat-controlled Congress has so far appropriated $13.3 billion in money stripped from the Defense Department, State Department, and Homeland Security Department to resettle the Afghans.

 

The Defense Department has reimbursed Quantico for about $138 million.

 

Democrats want to spend more money to resettle the Afghans, who often do not hold traditional American values, across the nation.

 

“Now Democrats want another $7 billion for the Afghan resettlement process on top of the $6 billion they have already spent in the last three months. For reference, Oklahoma’s total budget is $8.83 billion — for a state of 4 million people,” Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., said in a statement in December.

It is yet unknown what the boy was doing in his bedroom or whether the boy received disciplinary action from the school. Nevertheless, the case is receiving widespread national attention and prompting concerns from students and parents across the country.

 

The school district has issued a letter to parents admitting that there was spyware installed on the laptops that the schools issued to students, but maintaining that the feature “was only used for the narrow purpose of locating a lost, stolen or missing laptop.”

According to the Washington Post, Doug Young, a spokesperson for the Lower Merion School District, says that the district remotely activated 42 webcams for the purpose of finding missing student laptops over the past 14 months. The district had issued about 2,300 laptops to students in total, and Young reported that the district had recovered 28 of the missing laptops.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently spoke to the New York Times about the state of the industry and Microsoft's current strategy across various hot button issues. A topic that reared its ugly head was community and specifically harassment across gaming social networks: interviewer Kara Swisher drew a link between anonymity and the Gamergate saga, asking what lessons the big platform-holders had taken from it.

 

"The point you bring up about the anonymity on the internet and what behavior that that unlocks for people who want to leverage those for—I’ll call them evil reasons, I think is a great learning," said Spencer. "[…] And what we find on our network is when people are misbehaving, we have a report function that’s built right into the social connections that people create on our platform. If we ban somebody’s account, we really have the ability to impact somebody’s gaming identity and what availability they have."

 

If you're thinking that doesn't quite answer the question, Spencer goes on to elaborate on the good and bad of gaming social networks ("all positives and negatives of the human condition"). But there is one firm line in the sand.

 

"One of the things we’ve stated about our social network is we’re not a free speech platform. We’re a platform around interactive entertainment and video games. And we’re not there to allow all kinds of social discourse to happen on our platform. That’s not why we exist.

Liver-branding surgeon Simon Bramhall struck off medical register

A surgeon who branded his initials on two patients' livers has been struck off the medical register.

Simon Bramhall admitted using an argon beam machine to autograph the organs in 2013 while working at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Reviewing the case, the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) said it was an "act borne out of a degree of professional arrogance".

It said his actions "undermined" public trust in the medical profession.

In December 2017, Bramhall, of Tarrington, Herefordshire, admitted two counts of assault by beating at Birmingham Crown Court and the following year was fined £10,000.

Bramhall had in December 2020 been suspended from the profession for at least five months, but a report from the latest tribunal on Monday said a review hearing on 4 June found his fitness to practise was no longer impaired by reason of his criminal convictions and the suspension order was revoked.

The General Medical Council (GMC) also appealed against the suspension decision and a High Court judge, the report said, quashed the sanction, with the matter then resubmitted to MPTS for its consideration.

On Monday, MPTS found Bramhall's actions "breached" the trust between patient and doctor, and he was struck off.

'Gross violation'

Although, the tribunal said, it "accepted that no lasting physical damage was caused to either patient", Bramhall's actions had caused one of them "significant emotional harm".

It also noted Bramhall was of "previous good character" but erasure from the medical register was the "proportionate sanction" as the "overall context of providing life-saving care" did not mitigate against "Mr Bramhall's gross violation of his patients' dignity and autonomy".

Following the tribunal hearing, an immediate suspension order was put in place to cover a 28-day appeals period.

His actions came to light when 1.6-inch (4cm) initials were discovered by another doctor on an organ that had been transplanted by Bramhall and failed about a week after the operation.

Bramhall resigned from his job at the Birmingham hospital in 2014.

A surgeon who burned his initials on to the livers of two patients during transplant surgery has been struck off the medical register.

 

Simon Bramhall, 57, admitted using an argon beam – used to stop livers bleeding during operations and to highlight an area to be worked on – to sign “SB” into his patients’ organs in 2013 while working at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth hospital.

 

In 2018, the liver, spleen and pancreas surgeon was given a 12-month community order and fined £10,000 after admitting to two counts of assault by beating.

 

On Tuesday, a review by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) concluded Bramhall’s actions were “borne out of a degree of professional arrogance” and that they “undermined” public trust in the medical profession.

 

Bramhall, of Tarrington, Herefordshire, was first suspended from his post as a consultant surgeon in 2013 after another surgeon spotted the initials during follow-up surgery on one of his patients. A photograph of the 4cm-high branding was taken on a mobile phone.

 

During his sentencing hearing in 2018, Bramhall was told one of the victims suffered serious psychological harm as a result of the branding. The surgeon later told police he branded the organs to relieve operating theatre tensions following difficult and long transplant operations.

 

Bramhall tendered his resignation at the Birmingham hospital in 2014 amid an internal disciplinary investigation into his conduct.

 

In December 2020, Bramhall was suspended from the profession for at least five months. A report from the latest tribunal said a review hearing on 4 June found his fitness to practise was no longer impaired and the suspension order was revoked.

 

The report said the General Medical Council (GMC) also appealed against the suspension decision and a high court judge quashed the sanction, with the matter then resubmitted to MPTS for its consideration.

 

In its determination, the tribunal concluded a suspension order would be “insufficient to protect the wider public interest” and said erasure from the medical register would be an “appropriate and proportionate sanction”.

 

It said: “The physical assault of two vulnerable patients whilst unconscious in a clinical setting, one of whom experienced significant and enduring emotional harm, seriously undermines patients’ and the public’s trust and confidence in the medical profession and inevitably brings the profession as a whole into disrepute.”

 

The conclusion continued: “The tribunal rejected the submission made on behalf of Mr Bramhall, that it was to relieve tension. It was an act borne out of a degree of professional arrogance.”

To conclude, according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church Compendium signed by Pope Benedict XVI on june 28, 2005, 476. Are allowed transplantation and organ donation, before and after death? Organ transplantation is morally acceptable with the consent of the donor and without excessive risks for him/her. For the noble act of organ donation after death, the real death of the donor must be fully ascertained.

The Great Leap Forward (Second Five Year Plan) of the People's Republic of China (PRC) was an economic and social campaign led by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from 1958 to 1962. Private farming was prohibited, and those people who engaged in it were persecuted and labeled counter-revolutionaries. Restrictions on rural people were enforced with public struggle sessions and social pressure, and forced labor was also exacted from people. Rural industrialization, while officially a priority of the campaign, saw "its development … aborted by the mistakes of the Great Leap Forward". The Great Leap was one of two periods between 1953 and 1976 in which China's economy shrank. Economist Dwight Perkins argues that "enormous amounts of investment only produced modest increases in production or none at all. … In short, the Great Leap was a very expensive disaster".

In 1959, Mao Zedong ceded day-to-day leadership to pragmatic moderates like Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping and the CCP studied the damage which was done at conferences which it held in 1960 and 1962, especially at the "Seven Thousand Cadres Conference". I heard about Jakob Segal's theory that the AIDS virus originated in a

US government biological warfare research laboratory in early 1989.

After some preliminary research, I was amazed to find that this shocking

theory had received no attention whatsoever in the mainstream American

press, and almost none in Europe.

 

The questions this theory raised were a matter of pure science, or so it

seemed to me. There were only three possibilities: 1) Segal was wrong;

2) he was right; 3) it could not be determined either way. I resolved to

find out which of these was true.

 

  1. Informing the press

 

My first thought was to notify the press. Perhaps, by some fluke, they

had not heard of Segal, just as I hadn't, though he had been publishing

his conclusions since 1986. Surely American journalists would be as

anxious as I was to find out and expose the truth.If Segal was wrong, it

would be one's patriotic duty to say so.If he was right, or even might

be right, the same principle would hold. In the land of the free and the

home of the brave, one does not shirk from the truth. Remember

Watergate! So I wrote the following article and sent it off in September

1989 to a couple of dozen US journals and newspapers:

Is AIDS Man-Made?

 

The theory that AIDS originated in the laboratory has been circulating

in Europe, particularly in West Germany, since late 1986.

 

The theory hinges on the claim that the AIDS virus (HIV) is virtually

identical to two other viruses: Visna, which causes a fatal disease in

sheep but does not infect humans, and HTLV-I (Human T-Cell Leukemia

Virus), which infects humans but is seldom fatal.

 

Prof. Jakob Segal, the author of the theory, says that structural

analysis using genome mapping proves that HIV is more similar to Visna

than to any other retrovirus. The portion (about three percent) of the

HIV genome which does not correspond structurally to Visna corresponds

exactly to part of the HTLV-I genome.

 

This similarity, says Segal, cannot be explained by a natural process of

evolution and mutation. It can only have resulted from an artificial

combination of the two viruses.

 

He notes that the symptoms of AIDS are consistent with the complementary

effects of two different viruses. AIDS patients who do not die of the

consequences of immune deficiency show the same damage to the brain,

lungs, intestines, and kidneys that occurs in sheep affected with Visna.

Combining Visna with HTLV-I would allow the virus to enter not only the

macrophages of the inner organs but also the T4 lymphocytes and thus

cause immune deficiency, which is exactly what AIDS does.

 

As further evidence that HIV is a construct of Visna and HTLV- I, Segal

cites studies which show that the reverse transcription process in HIV

has two discrete points of peak activity which correspond, respectively,

to those of Visna and HTLV-I.

 

AIDS is thus, according to Segal, essentially a variety of Visna. This

has important implications for research, since a cure or vaccine might

be found sooner by studying Visna in sheep than by concentrating, as at

present, on monkeys.

 

The theory of the African origin of AIDS, that it developed in African

monkeys and was transferred to man, has been abandoned by most

researchers. All of the known varieties of SIV (Simian Immunodeficiency

Virus) are structurally so dissimilar to HIV (much less similar than HIV

and Visna) that a common origin is out of the question. Furthermore,

even if such a development by natural mutation were possible, it would

not explain the sudden outbreak of AIDS in the early 1980s, since

monkeys and men have been living together in Africa since the beginning

of human history.

 

The "Africa Legend," as it is called in a 1988 West German

(Westdeutscher Rundfunk) television documentary, is further debunked by

the epidemiological history of AIDS. There is no solid evidence of AIDS

in Africa before 1983. The earliest documented cases of AIDS date from

1979 in New York.

 

In addition to the WDR documentary and occasional mention in magazines

like Stern and Spiegel, Segal's work has been published in West Germany

(AIDS-Erreger aus dem Gen-Labor? [AIDS-Virus from the Gene Laboratory?],

Kuno Kruse, ed., Berlin: Simon & Leutner, 1987) and India (with Lilli

Segal, The Origin of AIDS, Trichur, India: Kerala Sastra Sahitya

Parishad, 1989). He has also been conducting lecture tours in West

Germany.

Scientific journals, Segal says, have refused to publish or discuss his

theory. This is difficult to understand. If he is wrong, he should

certainly be refuted. The cornerstone of the theory is that HIV is a

combination of Visna and HTLV-I. Segal claims that any trained

laboratory technician could produce AIDS from these components, today,

in less than two weeks. If this is true, it should be demonstrable by

experiment.

 

The next question is, if it is possible to produce HIV from Visna and

HTLV-I now, was it also possible in 1977, when Segal claims the AIDS

virus was created? He says it was, by use of the less precise "shotgun"

method of gene manipulation available then, though it would have taken

longer–about six months. If this is true, it should also be

demonstrable.

 

The final question would be: Was it produced in a laboratory? Segal

believes he has shown that it was, but he goes further than that. He

also believes he knows who produced it and why. Segal quotes from a

document presented by a Pentagon official named Donald MacArthur on June

9, 1969, to a Congressional committee, in which $10 million is requested

to develop, over the next 5 to 10 years, a new, contagious micro-

organism which would destroy the human immune system.

 

Whether such research is categorized as "offensive" or "defensive"is

immaterial: in order to defend oneself against apossible new virus, so

the reasoning goes, one must first develop the virus.

 

Since the Visna virus was already well known, Segal continues, the

problem was to find a human retrovirus that would enable it to infect

humans. Scrutiny of the technical literature, Segal says, reveals that

Dr. Robert Gallo isolated such a virus, HTLV-I, by 1975, though it was

not given this name until later.

 

1975 was also the year the virus section of Fort Detrick (the US Army's

center for biological warfare research in Frederick, Maryland) was

renamed the Frederick Cancer Research Facilities and placed under the

supervision of the National Cancer Institute, Gallo's employer.

 

It was there, in the P4 (high-security) laboratory at Fort Detrick,

according to Segal, where the AIDS virus was actually created, between

the fall of 1977 and spring of 1978. Six months is precisely the time it

would have taken, using the techniques available then, to create the

AIDS virus from Visna and HTLV-I.

 

Segal claims that the new virus was then tested on convicts who

volunteered for the experiment in return for their release from prison.

Failing to show any early symptoms of disease, the prisoners were

released after six months. Some were homosexual, and went to New York,

where the disease was first attested in 1979.

 

The researchers had not counted on creating a disease with such a long

incubation period. (One year is relatively short for AIDS, but would not

be unusual if the infection was induced by high- dosage injections.) If

the researchers had kept their human guinea pigs under observation for a

longer time, they would have detected the disease and been able to

contain it.

 

In other words, Segal claims that AIDS is the result of a germ warfare

research experiment gone awry.

 

In an interview on April 18, 1987, published in the Dutch newspaper De

Volkskrant, Dr. Gallo describes Segal's theory as KGB propaganda.

 

Segal, who is Russian (Lithuanian Jewish) but has been a professor of

biology (now emeritus) at Humboldt University in East Berlin since 1953,

is a bit old (78) to be starting a career as a propagandist. Soviet and

East German officials, for their part, have maintained a discreet

silence on the matter, for reasons of realpolitik, Segal believes.

 

The question of whether AIDS is man-made or not cannot be answered by

dismissing it as propaganda.

 

Segal believes he has answered the question. We do not have to believe

him, but we do have to believe that the following questions are

answerable:

 

1) Can HIV be produced by combining Visna and HTLV-I in the laboratory

now?

2) Can it be produced using the techniques available in 1977?

3) What did go on at Ft. Detrick between 1969 and 1978? What were the

results of the $10 million Pentagon research project announced on June

9, 1969?

I didn't get a single reply–not even a form-letter rejection. Later I

rewrote the article, concentrating on the MacArthur testimony and the

fact that neither it nor Segal had ever been discussed in the press.

This much was certain. The MacArthur testimony was authentic, and part

of the public record. I had seen and photocopied it myself in the

Library of Congress. On June 9, 1969, Dr. D. M. MacArthur, then Deputy

Director of Research and Technology for the Dept. of Defense, told the

House Subcommittee on Appropriations:

 

"Molecular biology is a field that is advancing very rapidly,

and eminent biologists believe that within a period of 5 to 10

years it would be possible to produce a synthetic biological

agent, an agent that does not naturally exist and for which no

natural immunity could have been acquired…a new infective

microorganism which could differ in certain important aspects

from any known disease-causing organisms. Most important of

these is that it might be refractory [resistant] to the

immunological and therapeutic processes upon which we depend to

maintain our relative freedom from infectious disease…A

research program to explore the feasibility of this could be

completed in approximately 5 years at a total cost of $10

million."

 

This was scandal enough. It does not mean that Segal is right, but it

does mean the US government wanted, and considered it feasible, to

create an AIDS-like virus as early as 1969.

 

It would not be surprising if the government wanted to keep this quiet,

but what about the press? I could find only two references to

MacArthur's testimony, in a book by Robert Harris and Jeremy Paxman (_A

Higher Form of Killing: The Secret Story of Chemical & Biological

Warfare_, NY: Hill & Wang, 1982), and in a couple of articles by Robert

Lederer and Nathaniel S. Lehrman in Covert Action Information Bulletin

(28, summer 1987, and 29, winter 1988).

 

Segal had been similarly ignored. Through the Amerika Haus library in

Frankfurt I ran a DIALOGUE search of the indexes of major US newspapers,

magazines and journals for the name Jakob Segal, and it came up

negative. At least he had been mentioned a couple of times in _Der

Spiegel_. In America he was apparently completely unknown.

 

I found this intolerable.I did not agree with Segal; I only wanted to

see his arguments discussed by people competent to make a judgement.

Then I and the rest of the reading public could decide which arguments

were more convincing. I thought that was the way free speech worked.

Here was a guy saying the US government created AIDS, and claiming to

have proved itscientifically, and he was being ignored.

 

By contrast, I had read about the storm of controversy that Peter

Duesberg's theory had caused. He suggested in 1987 that AIDS is not

caused by a virus at all–certainly at least as speculative a thesis as

Segal's. But there is a significant difference. If Duesberg is right

and HIV does not cause the disease, the question of whether the virus

originated in the laboratory is irrelevant. In that sense, it is the

antithesis of Segal's theory. Was that why it received so much

attention, while Segal was completely ignored?

 

I also wanted to call attention to Segal's new book (_AIDS: Die Spur

fuehrt ins Pentagon_, Essen: Neuer Weg, 1990), which had not (and still

has not) appeared in English.

 

I sent the revised version of my article out to a number of journals,

but the only reply I received was from a "radical" leftist editor, who

wrote:

 

"We have real problems with the Segal material….There was a logical

fallacy in Lehrman's reliance [on Segal's theory], too, because he used

Segal's theories to bolster his notion that the release of AIDS was

deliberate, even though Segal believes that it was accidentally

released….The issue is further complicated by the recent retraction of

the current Soviet government of the allegations of CBW connections they

had made, undoubtedly another of Bush's little quid pro quos. A further

difficulty is that the most credible critic in this country of the

standard medical establishment line is Dr. Peter Duesberg, who argues

(and Lehrman agrees) that AIDS is caused toxically, not simply virally.

The synthesis of all this might be that if AIDS is toxically triggered,

even if it requires some viral precondition, the trigger could be caused

either environmentally or deliberately or both.

 

"In any event, although we believe that the issue of the cause of AIDS

is an incredibly significant one (and certainly do not think you or any

other the other critics of the Establishment) are lone nuts, we don't

think that the issue is anything near so clear-cut that the failure to

give significant coverage to Segal is "the biggest coverup since JFK.

"I wanted to focus on the 1969 MacArthur testimony–a scandal in

itself–and what Segal makes of that. You probably have Segal's English

monograph of 1986, which he wrote before he knew about the MacArthur

testimony. (He got it from Rifkin). Since then he has been much more

specific about tracing what he considers to be the exact course of

development of the virus, i.e. Gallo's execution of that 1969 contract.

 

"ThisGallo's rolemay not be provable, but the heart of Segal's

thesis, namely that VISNA + HTLV-I = HIV-I, is testable, as I pointed

out. There is no scientific explanation for why it has not been tested,

which leaves the political one. The theory is very clear and precise.

If Segal is wrong, he could easily be proved wrong.

 

"This is not the case with Duesberg or any of the other theories. The

effect of the Duesberg theory, as I pointed out in the article, is to

remove the entire question of the origin of the virus from the debate,

which then becomes dissipated in the probably unresolvable question of

environmental triggers, susceptibility, etc.

 

"The question we should ask is this: Why has Duesberg's theory, which

is not testable, been given so much attention, while Segal's theory,

which is testable, has been completely ignored? I did a national (US)

magazine and newspaper database search (DIALOGUE), and if it is

accurate, the name Jakob Segal has never appeared in a major US

newspaper or any scientific journal.

 

"If Duesberg is the most credible critic in the US of the medical

establishment, as you say, he serves (willy nilly) the coverup

admirably, for the reason I have described. As we well know, mind

control involves control of the offense as well as the defense (Gallo,

Essex). The parallel here with the JFK case is the Blakey Mafia theory.

That, as Garrison says, is a red herring. It doesn't matter who pulled

the triggers, and it doesn't matter what 'triggers' AIDS, if we are

trying to find out the whole truth. Blakey will have us tracking down

Mafiosi for the next hundred years, and Duesberg will have us searching

for non-viral AIDS 'triggers' for another hundred.

 

"It's hard to say what the biggest coverup up will turn out to be (if

anyone ever finds out). AIDS can never be as 'clear-cut' as JFK, in

terms of evidence ignored, suppressed, and distorted, because there are

not enough microbiologists around who are capable or willing to do the

private research. In terms of lives lost and money spent, though, AIDS

will be near the top. In another sense, too, this is as big as JFK,

because if Segal is right it means that 'science' is just as corrupt and

manipulable as the press and the government. This will come as a great

shock to many who believe that questions of 'pure science' are immune to

political manipulation.

 

"You are probably right about a deal with the Russians. In fact, Segal

says they talked about AIDS at Reykjavik. Maybe that's what Reagan was

really upset about, rather than SDI. I wouldn't be surprised if he heard

the truth about AIDS at that conference for the first time. In any case,

Segal was told subsequently by East German and Soviet authorities that

he could continue to publish and speak on the subject (mainly in West

Germany–the East Germans gave him no opportunities), as long as he did

not explicitly associate himself with the East German or Soviet

governments. Now there is the question. They could have stopped him

whenever they wanted to, but they didn't. Do you think they would have

allowed him to continue to publish and give lectures in the West if they

thought he was wrong? If he was a KGB agent, as some people have said,

would they have been stupid enough to let him make such monstrous

allegations if there was nothing to them, and if they could easily be

proved false?

In an interview with the outlet, Babbitt family attorney Terry Roberts said he was surprised at how “skimpy” Byrd’s investigative file is.

 

“He didn’t provide any statement to [criminal] investigators, and they didn’t push him to make a statement,” Roberts also said.

 

Roberts’ claims appear to be backed up by MPD documents obtained by Judicial Watch, which confirm that Byrd “declined to provide a statement.”

 

An MPD spokesperson confirmed that Byrd did not cooperate with internal affairs or FBI agents.

  1. Talking to the experts

 

My next tack was to try to pursue the science of the matter. This was

difficult, since my last foray into the natural sciences was in 1968,

when I took the general biology course at college which was also

required for humanities majors. Still, as a linguist I felt I was a

scientist of a sort, and I felt that with a reasonable effort I should

at least be able to inform myself enough to answer my basic question:

Was Segal right, wrong, or is it impossible to know?

 

In the summer of 1989 I had seen a reference in Time magazine to someone

I had known as a teenager who had become a well-known cancer and AIDS

researcher–a virologist and a viral surgeon. If anybody could answer my

questions it would be Tony. (The name is fictitious; I see no reason to

personalize the issue.) I found his address in Who's Who and wrote to

him, enclosing a copy of my unpublished article and a longer article

written by Segal that had been published by a left-wing (Marxist) West

German newspaper. An exchange of letters followed, which I reproduce

here.

…My main reason for writing is to ask what you think of the enclosed. My article has not been published. Segal's article is from the Rote Fahne, a Marxist weekly, which I know doesn't exactly enhance its credibility, but nobody else will publish him. That shouldn't affect the science of the matter. I hope your German is up to it. I think you'll find Segal's style clear and non-convoluted, which is more than I can say for most German academicians–or American ones, for that matter.

 

Let me be honest. I'm quite aware that you might be the last person who might tell me anything, even if you could, about this,but the thing really bothers me, and a lot of other people too, at least in this country. Your question is one that has come up many times before. The answer is simple. The virus is not man-made. Segal gives us too much credit since this is the most complex virus we have seen. We can't even make a simple one. If it were as he says we would also have the technology to eliminate it and we do not, as yet.

 

We don't know where it actually comes from but the best guess is from a non-human primate from Africa. This is because very similar viruses cause AIDS-like diseases in these animals. However, the "missing link" has not been found, but it may turn up at any time as more studies are done.

 

You may also have heard that AIDS is not caused by the virus HIV. More nonsense. The evidence that it does is overwhelming and this will become clearer to the public as specific drugs and vaccines are developed. To get a better view of all of this let me refer you to the October 1988 issue of Scientific American.

Segal deals at length with Essex's Africa hypothesis, and points out that even he (Essex) has retracted it, although it continues to be propagated in the media. That means that they should be working with sheep, not monkeys.

Dear Mike,

 

This is hard to do by letter, but here goes. Visna + HTLV-1 could never be crossed to give HIV-1. HIV-1 has things in it that neither of the others have.

 

HIV-1 is a member of the same family as Visna but more complex. Indeed, much of what is known about Visna is used to further our knowledge of HIV-1.

 

The Africa hypothesis is not that of Essex. What he has retracted is something that relates to HIV-2, an HIV of West African origin. Max detected the presence of this virus in man but when he isolated it, a contamination occurred in his lab with SIV-1 (a simian AIDS virus). This was not found out until later. The real HIV-2 exists and is a second human virus.

 

You need to read much more than Segal and I suppose I should read more abut him. I finally stopped some time ago when I concluded he was on the wrong track. I can imagine how difficult it is for you, though, with all of this controversy about. It is a very strange time in science.

I know I'm in way over my head, but all I can do, like everyone else, is try to evaluate somehow or other the opinions of experts, which is very difficult when they contradict each other.

 

I don't know if you are referring to the tat genes when you say HIV-1 has things that Visna and HTLV-1 do not, but if so Segal responds to this objection in his book as follows:

 

"As early as June 1986 Gonda et al. (Proceedings of the Nat. Academy of Sciences 83, 4007-4011) published a comparative study of the HIV and Visna virus genomes … The result was that both genomes were highly similar, and that all structural elements were shared by both of them, except for a small segment of 300 nucleotide pairs with an exceptionally high genetic instability, nearly identical to a section of the HTLV-1 genome. That means that all the new structural elements first described in the HIV genome, such as the tat-genes complex, also exist in the Visna virus genome."

 

Segal has a whole chapter based largely on this study by Gonda and an earlier one published in Science 227, 173-177 (1985).The 60% homology Gonda found between Visna and HIV-1 in 1986, with the latter varying by mutation at abut 10% every 2 years (Hahn et al., Science 232, 1548-1553, 1986), would point to near identity around early 1978, when Segal claims that a section of a genome originating from HTLV-1 was added to Visna by gene surgery to produce HIV-1.

 

In another chapter, Segal suggests that HIV-2 is a manipulated SIV virus, made pathogenic possibly by the surgical insertion of an orf-A gene.

 

Other microbiologists I have talked to do not dispute Segal's thesis that AIDS is a laboratory product, though there is disagreement as to exactly how it might have happened and from precisely what components. I have also been referred to an article by Julie Overbaugh et al. in Nature 332, 731-734 (1988), which apparently demonstrates that it is possible to produce a new virus in the laboratory which is more pathogenic than its components. This means that Segal's scenario is at least not to be ruled out by any fundamental law of nature.

 

Certainly Dr. MacArthur did not believe this in 1969, when he made the statement to Congress that Segal quotes in the article I sent you. Jeremy Rifkin's petition of Feb. 10, 1988 (appended to Segal's book) to disclose what became of this project yielded nothing, of course. It's a secret! Perhaps the scientists themselves are our best hope. Segal feels that Gonda may have tried indirectly to point to the truth by calling attention to the similarity between Visna and HIV–if so, more power to him.

 

The worst thing about Segal's theory is not that it may be correct, bad as that would be, but that it is being, as the Germans say, "tot geschwiegen." Of that there can be no doubt, and the implications are dismal. Sincerely,

The couple was arrested after the eight-year-old girl's lifeless body was discovered inside a home in Rangeville in south-east Queensland last Saturday afternoon.

 

They appeared in court via video link from the Toowoomba Police watch house, where they have been in custody since their arrest.

 

Officers were called to the home in Toowoomba's south-eastern suburbs about 5.30pm on Saturaday, with a neighbour witnessing a paramedic running from the home 'in tears' after finding the girl's body.

 

Urged by Toowoomba Magistrate Kay Philipson on Wednesday to seek legal aid for the 'very serious matters', Mr Struhs twice declined to do so, saying 'No thankyou' and informing her, 'I won't be applying for bail'.

 

Jason and Kerrie Struhs have previously lived in the Queensland town of Gatton, where Mrs Struhs ran a business and was a market stallholder.

 

'Within minutes there were police everywhere,' the neighbour told The Toowoomba Chronicle.

 

Queensland Police launched an investigation with the support of the Child Trauma Unit and the Homicide Investigation Unit and both adults were charged on Tuesday.

 

Police said the man and woman, who were both from Toowoomba, were known to the child.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Some students at the University of Pittsburgh were disenrolled for the spring semester for not complying with the university’s vaccine mandate.

 

In November, the University announced it would be following the Biden administration’s federal mandate, requiring all faculty and staff to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 6.

 

In a statement on Nov. 9, the university said, “While we will begin progressive discipline for faculty and staff who are not compliant with the interim policy by that date, we will use the month of December to help those who want to become compliant do so for the start of the spring term,” a university spokesperson said. “We will similarly work with such students during that period.”

 

On Tuesday, the University told KDKA all non-compliant students were disenrolled from classes and lost access to Pitt buildings and certain IT functions. Ninety-six percent of Pitt students and employees have been vaccinated.

 

“In addition, non-compliant employees lost access to Pitt buildings and certain IT resources,” David Seldin said, Pitt assistant vice chancellor of communications.

 

The University would not say how many students, faculty and staff members were affected but said in a news release in November that more than 93% were fully vaccinated.

 

“The new requirement will affect approximately 2,250 students, 240 faculty and 700 staff who have not disclosed their vaccination status,” a Pitt spokesperson said in news release in November.

The United Nations has dared to act, when the League dared not in Palestine, in Korea, in Suez, in the Congo. There is not one among us today who does not conjecture upon the reaction of this body when motives and actions are called into question. The opinion of this Organization today acts as a powerful influence upon the decisions of its members. The spotlight of world opinion, focused by the United Nations upon the transgressions of the renegades of human society, has thus far proved an effective safeguard against unchecked aggression and unrestricted violation of human rights.

 

The United Nations continues to serve as the forum where nations whose interests clash may lay their cases before world opinion. It still provides the essential escape valve without which the slow build-up of pressures would have long since resulted in catastrophic explosion. Its actions and decisions have speeded the achievement of freedom by many peoples on the continents of Africa and Asia. Its efforts have contributed to the advancement of the standard of living of peoples in all corners of the world.

 

For this, all men must give thanks. As I stand here today, how faint, how remote are the memories of 1936. How different in 1963 are the attitudes of men. We then existed in an atmosphere of suffocating pessimism. Today, cautious yet buoyant optimism is the prevailing spirit.

But each one of us here knows that what has been accomplished is not enough. The United Nations judgments have been and continue to be subject to frustration, as individual member-states have ignored its pronouncements and disregarded its recommendations. The Organization's sinews have been weakened, as member-states have shirked their obligations to it. The authority of the Organization has been mocked, as individual member-states have proceeded, in violation of its commands, to pursue their own aims and ends. The troubles which continue to plague us virtually all arise among member states of the Organization, but the Organization remains impotent to enforce acceptable solutions. As the maker and enforcer of the international law, what the United Nations has achieved still falls regrettably short of our goal of an international community of nations.

 

This does not mean that the United Nations has failed. I have lived too long to cherish many illusions about the essential high mindedness of men when brought into stark confrontation with the issue of control over their security, and their property interests. Not even now, when so much is at hazard would many nations willingly entrust their destinies to other hands.

 

Yet, this is the ultimatum presented to us: secure the conditions whereby men will entrust their security to a larger entity, or risk annihilation; persuade men that their salvation rests in the subordination of national and local interests to the interests of humanity, or endanger man's future. These are the objectives, yesterday unobtainable, today essential, which we must labor to achieve.

 

Until this is accomplished, mankind's future remains hazardous and permanent peace a matter for speculation. There is no single magic formula, no one simple step, no words, whether written into the Organization's Charter or into a treaty between states, which can automatically guarantee to us what we seek. Peace is a day-to-day problem, the product of a multitude of events and judgements. Peace is not an "is", it is a "becoming." We cannot escape the dreadful possibility of catastrophe by miscalculation.

 

But we can reach the right decisions on the myriad subordinate problems which each new day poses, and we can thereby make our contribution and perhaps the most that can be reasonably expected of us in 1963 to the preservation of peace. It is here that the United Nations has served us - not perfectly, but well. And in enhancing the possibilities that the Organization may serve us better, we serve and bring closer our most cherished goals.

 

I would mention briefly today two particular issues which are of deep concern to all men: disarmament and the establishment of true equality among men. Disarmament has become the urgent imperative of our time. I do not say this because I equate the absence of arms to peace, or because I believe that bringing an end to the nuclear arms race automatically guarantees the peace, or because the elimination of nuclear warheads from the arsenals of the world will bring in its wake that change in attitude requisite to the peaceful settlement of disputes between nations. Disarmament is vital today, quite simply, because of the immense destructive capacity of which men dispose.

 

Ethiopia supports the atmospheric nuclear test ban treaty as a step towards this goal, even though only a partial step. Nations can still perfect weapons of mass destruction by underground testing. There is no guarantee against the sudden, unannounced resumption of testing in the atmosphere.

The real significance of the treaty is that it admits of a tacit stalemate between the nations which negotiated it, a stalemate which recognizes the blunt, unavoidable fact that none would emerge from the total destruction which would be the lot of all in a nuclear war, a stalemate which affords us and the United Nations a breathing space in which to act.

 

Here is our opportunity and our challenge. If the nuclear powers are prepared to declare a truce, let us seize the moment to strengthen the institutions and procedures which will serve as the means for the pacific settlement of disputes among men. Conflicts between nations will continue to arise. The real issue is whether they are to be resolved by force, or by resort to peaceful methods and procedures, administered by impartial institutions. This very Organization itself is the greatest such institution, and it is in a more powerful United Nations that we seek, and it is here that we shall find, the assurance of a peaceful future.

 

Were a real and effective disarmament achieved and the funds now spent in the arms race devoted to the amelioration of man's state; were we to concentrate only on the peaceful uses of nuclear knowledge, how vastly and in how short a time might we change the conditions of mankind. This should be our goal.

 

When we talk of the equality of man, we find, also, a challenge and an opportunity; a challenge to breathe new life into the ideals enshrined in the Charter, an opportunity to bring men closer to freedom and true equality. and thus, closer to a love of peace.

 

The goal of the equality of man which we seek is the antithesis of the exploitation of one people by another with which the pages of history and in particular those written of the African and Asian continents, speak at such length. Exploitation, thus viewed, has many faces. But whatever guise it assumes, this evil is to be shunned where it does not exist and crushed where it does. It is the sacred duty of this Organization to ensure that the dream of equality is finally realized for all men to whom it is still denied, to guarantee that exploitation is not reincarnated in other forms in places whence it has already been banished.

 

As a free Africa has emerged during the past decade, a fresh attack has been launched against exploitation, wherever it still exists. And in that interaction so common to history, this in turn, has stimulated and encouraged the remaining dependent peoples to renewed efforts to throw off the yoke which has oppressed them and its claim as their birthright the twin ideals of liberty and equality. This very struggle is a struggle to establish peace, and until victory is assured, that brotherhood and understanding which nourish and give life to peace can be but partial and incomplete.

 

In the United States of America, the administration of President Kennedy is leading a vigorous attack to eradicate the remaining vestige of racial discrimination from this country. We know that this conflict will be won and that right will triumph. In this time of trial, these efforts should be encouraged and assisted, and we should lend our sympathy and support to the American Government today.

 

Last May, in Addis Ababa, I convened a meeting of Heads of African States and Governments. In three days, the thirty-two nations represented at that Conference demonstrated to the world that when the will and the determination exist, nations and peoples of diverse backgrounds can and will work together. in unity, to the achievement of common goals and the assurance of that equality and brotherhood which we desire.

The United Nations has done much, both directly and indirectly to speed the disappearance of discrimination and oppression from the earth. Without the opportunity to focus world opinion on Africa and Asia which this Organization provides, the goal, for many, might still lie ahead, and the struggle would have taken far longer. For this, we are truly grateful.

 

But more can be done. The basis of racial discrimination and colonialism has been economic, and it is with economic weapons that these evils have been and can be overcome. In pursuance of resolutions adopted at the Addis Ababa Summit Conference, African States have undertaken certain measures in the economic field which, if adopted by all member states of the United Nations, would soon reduce intransigence to reason. I ask, today, for adherence to these measures by every nation represented here which is truly devoted to the principles enunciated in the Charter.

 

I do not believe that Portugal and South Africa are prepared to commit economic or physical suicide if honorable and reasonable alternatives exist. I believe that such alternatives can be found. But I also know that unless peaceful solutions are devised, counsels of moderation and temperance will avail for naught; and another blow will have been dealt to this Organization which will hamper and weaken still further its usefulness in the struggle to ensure the victory of peace and liberty over the forces of strife and oppression. Here, then, is the opportunity presented to us. We must act while we can, while the occasion exists to exert those legitimate pressures available to us, lest time run out and resort be had to less happy means.

 

Does this Organization today possess the authority and the will to act? And if it does not, are we prepared to clothe it with the power to create and enforce the rule of law? Or is the Charter a mere collection of words, without content and substance, because the essential spirit is lacking? The time in which to ponder these questions is all too short. The pages of history are full of instances in which the unwanted and the shunned nonetheless occurred because men waited to act until too late. We can brook no such delay.

So male humans continued flourishing while the male Neanderthals, sadly, started dying out.

Today, most of us have at least 2% of Neanderthal DNA within us. None of us are purely Homo sapiens, except for those who never migrated out of Africa and that is utterly fascinating!

If we are to survive, this Organization must survive. To survive, it must be strengthened. Its executive must be vested with great authority. The great nations of the world would do well to remember that in the modern age even their own fates are not wholly in their hands. Peace demands the united efforts of us all. Who can foresee what spark might ignite the fuse? It is not only the small and the weak who must scrupulously observe their obligations to the United Nations and to each other. Unless the smaller nations are accorded their proper voice in the settlement of the world's problems, unless the equality which Africa and Asia have struggled to attain is reflected in expanded membership in the institutions which make up the United Nations, confidence will come just that much harder. Unless the rights of the least of men are as assiduously protected as those of the greatest, the seeds of confidence will fall on barren soil.

 

The stake of each one of us is identical - life or death. We all wish to live. We all seek a world in which men are freed of the burdens of ignorance, poverty, hunger and disease. And we shall all be hard-pressed to escape the deadly rain of nuclear fall-out should catastrophe overtake us.

 

When I spoke at Geneva in 1936, there was no precedent for a head of state addressing the League of Nations. I am neither the first, nor will I be the last head of state to address the United Nations, but only I have addressed both the League and this Organization in this capacity.

 

The problems which confront us today are, equally, unprecedented. They have no counterparts in human experience. Men search the pages of history for solutions, for precedents, but there are none.

 

This, then, is the ultimate challenge. Where are we to look for our survival, for the answers to the questions which have never before been posed?

 

We must look, first, to Almighty God, Who has raised man above the animals and endowed him with intelligence and reason. We must put our faith in Him, that He will not desert us or permit us to destroy humanity which He created in His image.

 

And we must look into ourselves, into the depth of our souls. We must become something we have never been and for which our education and experience and environment have ill-prepared us. We must become bigger than we have been: more courageous, greater in spirit, larger in outlook. We must become members of a new race, overcoming petty prejudice, owing our ultimate allegiance not to nations but to our fellow men within the human community.

Supreme Court turns away Carter Page defamation suit against DNC

 

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to review a defamation lawsuit brought by former Trump campaign official Carter Page against the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and others linked to the controversial Steele dossier.

 

Page had appealed to the Supreme Court after his lawsuit was dismissed in the lower courts on procedural grounds.

 

The former 2016 Trump campaign foreign policy adviser filed suit in January 2020 against the DNC and law firm Perkins Coie in relation to a dossier compiled by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele.

 

The creation of the dossier was set in motion by Perkins Coie through the research firm Fusion GPS. The document, which included unverified claims about former President Trump and his associates’ links to Russia, played a role in the U.S. obtaining a warrant to surveil Page.

 

In December 2019, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report detailing multiple inaccuracies and omissions in the surveillance warrant applications targeting Page that were submitted to the court associated with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

 

Page alleged in his legal complaint that the dossier “mobilized the news media against Dr. Page, damaging his reputation, and effectively destroying his once-private life.”
