Russia responds to US media report about Ukraine embassy 'evacuation'

Moscow’s blasted the story as a “sensation” whipped up in the press

Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to recent reports that Moscow has partly evacuated its embassy in Ukraine, by claiming that foreign media is unfairly spinning realty in order to paint the country as insidious.

Diplomatic spokesperson Maria Zakharova issued the response in a statement, on Tuesday, criticizing The New York Times, which broke the story based on its customary anonymous sources, for being fed by Ukrainian security services. Zakharova did not deny the claim that some diplomats had left the embassy, but she insisted that work was continuing as usual there.

“Russia’s embassy and consulate general in Ukraine are operating normally,” she wrote. “They are doing this despite attacks on Russian foreign service workers by Ukrainian radicals, and the provocations of local security forces. But the American media have not and will not cover this.”

Zakharova claimed Russia has provided evidence that its workers in Ukraine have been harassed, but that Ukrainian security services haven’t responded and American journalists have ignored the situation.

Supreme Court Rejects Request to Block Mask Mandates For Flights

The Supreme Court has rejected a request to stop mask mandates for air travel.

The application was filed by the father of a four-year-old autistic child, who says both he and his child have medical reasons for not being able to comply with the mask mandates.

The father’s emergency request was filed with Justice Neil Gorsuch, who sent it to the full court. It was denied without any comment or explanation.

“Joining the father-son challengers was another man, Lucas Wall, who has sought to raise money and publicity from his legal efforts targeting the federal transportation mask mandate. Chief Justice John Roberts last month unilaterally rejected a separate challenge filed by the group,” The Hill reports.

“The court’s move comes less than a week after the justices issued a split decision on another set of Biden administration pandemic mitigation measures. Last Thursday, the court voted 6-3 to block a vaccine-or-test mandate for large employers but voted 5-4 to maintain a vaccine mandate for health providers at federally funded facilities,” the report continued.

The Transportation Security Administration requires passengers to wear masks in order to comply with an executive order signed by Joe Biden.

The order goes in effect Monday, Jan. 24, but 16 school divisions have vowed to keep mask mandates, defying Youngkin’s executive order banning them — setting up another political fight in Virginia over schools versus parents, leading the governor to vow to use “every resource within the governor’s authority” to protect parents’ rights.

“We wrote the order to give school systems basically eight days to get ready, to listen to parents,” Youngkin said Sunday, responding to Arlington Public Schools immediate attack on his executive order — after an election campaign that saw Virginians elect him on the platform of standing for parents.

“And the fact that tweet came out from Arlington County within minutes of my executive order, what that tells is me they haven’t listened to parents yet,” he added. “If there’s one thing that everybody heard in November is it is time to listen to parents.

“So over the course of this week, I hope they will listen to parents, because we will use every resource within the governor’s authority to explore what we can do and will do in order to make sure that parents will have their rights protected.”

The Democrats praised the radical school divisions for requiring masks on children.

Hawaii to Require Travelers Have Covid Booster Shot in Order to be Considered “Fully Vaccinated”

Hawaii will require travelers to be fully vaccinated and boosted in order to skip the mandatory quarantine.

Travelers who do not have the Covid booster will be ordered to quarantine for five days, Hawaii Governor Ige announced.

“We know that the community needs time to react to that, so we would have to provide at least two weeks for those who may not be up-to-date to go to have the opportunity to go and get vaccinated if they need to,” the governor said, according to Hawaii News Now.

Governor Ige also said he has been speaking with mayors about requiring proof of Covid booster shots in order to dine indoors.

Hawaii will require visitors to the state to have received a COVID-19 vaccine booster if they want to skip quarantine.

Currently, under the rules of the state’s “Safe Travels” program, travelers who don’t want to quarantine for five days must either be fully vaccinated — meaning two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine or one shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine — or have a negative COVID-19 test within one day of travel.

However, the program is changing the definition of “fully vaccinated” to include booster shots, Gov. David Ige announced at a news conference last week.

This means fully vaccinated travelers who haven’t received a booster shot will have to quarantine in Hawaii for five days.

Ige said changes to the program will not occur for at least two weeks so people traveling to Hawaii can adjust their plans accordingly.

Police used notorious spyware to snoop on citizens – media inquiry

The surveillance was allegedly done without the required court supervision or authorization

Israeli police have been accused of using the NSO group's Pegasus spyware to conduct warrantless phone intercepts of citizens without the required court authorization, according to an investigation by Tel Aviv-based media.

On Tuesday, Israeli news outlet Calcalist published an investigation into claims the country’s police have used the spyware to remotely hack citizens’ phones. Authorities are accused of controlling the devices and extracting information, despite not having secured warrants.

Individuals who are thought to have been targeted include mayors, protest leaders, former government employees, and a close contact of a senior politician, Calcalist’s investigation said.

Reportedly, “the hacking wasn’t done under court supervision, and police didn’t request a search or bugging warrant to conduct the surveillance.” Moreover, once collected there was apparently no supervision on the data being collected, or how police used or distributed it.

Israeli law currently only permits the nation’s domestic intelligence agency to hack phones without court permission. However, the outlet suggested police may have justified an exemption for it by claiming the technology used is not covered by existing legislation.

Israeli Public Security Minister Omer Barlev has refuted the reports, stating that there was “no practice of secretive wiretapping, or intrusion into devices, by the Israeli police without the approval of a judge.”

US Airline Lobbying Group Warns Of 'Catastrophic Disruptions' Upon 5G Rollout

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) cleared a large portion of the U.S. commercial plane fleet for ultra-low visibility landing at half of the U.S. airports affected by the upcoming rollout of 5G. However, a top airline lobbying group warned the 5G rollout could unleash severe economic consequences for commercial and cargo airlines.

An FAA statement, released Sunday, said Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767, MD-10/-11 and Airbus A310, A319, A320, A321, A330 and A350 models had been approved to perform low-visibility landings (this represents about 45% of America's commercial fleet). The agency also approved two radar altimeter models that will not be disrupted by the 5G band from cellular towers.

The remaining airports will be heavily impacted by 5G frequencies and could cause airlines to delay or cancel flights based on weather. The FAA has requested AT&T and Verizon, which plan to turn on their 5G towers on Dec. 19, to create buffer zones for six months around 50 airports where transmitters are nearby.

"Even with these new approvals, flights at some airports may still be affected. The FAA also continues to work with manufacturers to understand how radar altimeter data is used in other flight control systems. Passengers should check with their airlines if weather is forecast at a destination where 5G interference is possible," the FAA said.

The heart of the problem lies in the aircraft's radar altimeter uses frequencies close to C-band. 5G towers also use C-band radio spectrum frequencies that can disrupt altimeters, an important device that measures the aircraft's height above ground.

Florida ADL rebukes Democrat Nikki Fried for comparing DeSantis to Hitler

The Florida chapter of the Anti-Defamation League rebuked Nikki Fried, the state's Democratic Agricultural Commissioner and a candidate for governor, after she compared her would-be Republican rival Gov. Ron DeSantis to Hitler.

In a social media post, the Florida Anti-Defamation League said Fried's comments were "offensive."

"While public officials may have disagreements over policies, comparisons to the Holocaust and Nazism are inappropriate, offensive, and trivialize this unique tragedy in human history," ADL Florida said.

"It's vital for all public officials to challenge each other based on the substance and merits of the issue at hand and not invoke comparisons to Hitler or Naizism. We will be reaching out to [Nikki Fried] to discuss our concerns," the group added.

The rebuke comes after Fried likened DeSantis to a "dictator" on a radio talk show last week. She accused the governor of "doing everything possible to take away power from local governments, taking away people's abilities to protest, making it harder to vote, talking about … banning books."

"I'm sorry. I'm a student of history too. I saw the rise of Hitler," Fried said on NPR's Florida Roundup.

Her comments startled the host, who asked her to clarify what she meant.

"Are you comparing DeSantis to Hitler?" the host asked.

"In a lot of ways, yes," Fried doubled down.

Presidential Debate Commission Chief Held ‘Off-The-Record’ Meetings With Chinese Communist Propagandists, And Xi Jinping.

As Republicans weight the merits of debating in a rigged system, new information comes to light about the Commission's board members.

Kenneth Wollack, a Co-Chair of the Commission of Presidential Debates, participated in several “off-the-record” dialogues with Chinese Communist Party officials and influence groups, The National Pulse can exclusively reveal.

Wollack – also the Chairman of the publicly-funded National Endowment for Democracy (NED) board – was one of ten principal delegates for what was called the inaugural U.S.-China High-Level Political Party Leaders Dialogue, hosted by the EastWest Institute “in partnership” with the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The U.S. delegation was led by former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright, whose daughter Alice was recently tapped to run a key Biden-era foreign aid initiative despite her massive investments with the Chinese Communist Party.

“It seeks to build understanding and trust between political elites from the United States and China through an exchange of views on governance and foreign policy issues,” summarizes the think-tank.

The EastWest Institute, however, has a long track record of collaborating with premier Chinese influence groups including the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF).

The organization was founded by the Vice-Chairman Chinese Communist Party’s United Front Work Department, an effort that seeks to “co-opt and neutralize sources of potential opposition to the policies and authority of its ruling Chinese Communist Party” and “influence foreign governments to take actions or adopt positions supportive of Beijing’s preferred policies.”

CUSEF has also sponsored various U.S.-China High-Level Political Party Leaders Dialogue.

Given the EastWest Institute’s close ties to Beijing, Wollack’s delegation included “off-the-record” meetings with Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping and senior officials in the regime’s controversial United Front Work Department.

In the following year, Wollack joined another U.S.-China High-Level Political Party Leaders Dialogue that took place in Beijing and Sichuan, China.

“This visit marked the first time the dialogue process expanded beyond Beijing to include meetings in other regions of China, in an effort to promote a broader understanding between the two countries’ political elites,” explained the EastWest Institute.

In December 2012, Wollack joined another business-focused delegation, which the EastWest Institute summarized as focusing on “how to expand trade ties between China and the United States, particularly at the provincial and state levels.”

Texas Abortion Ban Remains in Effect as Appeals Court Sends Case to State’s Supreme Court

An abortion ban that went into effect in Texas last September will remain as such for the foreseeable future, after a federal appeals court sent a case challenging the ban to the state’s Supreme Court, dealing the abortion clinics challenging the law a small defeat.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, which is perceived as a conservative appellate court, in a 2-to-1 decision, sent the case to the Texas Supreme Court.

“The unresolved questions of state law must be certified to the Texas Supreme Court,” wrote Judge Edith Jones, joined by Judge Stuart Kyle Duncan. Jones was nominated by President Ronald Reagan, and Duncan was nominated by President Donald Trump.

The decision effectively delays a legal challenge by abortion clinics against the Texas Heartbeat Act, also known as Senate Bill 8 (SB 8). The abortion ban, which applies after a heartbeat is detected—usually around six weeks after conception—unless a medical emergency exists, will for now remain in place.

Jones stated that the case is a matter of judicial procedure and not about the merits of the abortion ban itself.

“[T]he issues before this court are not about abortion, nor about whether S.B. 8 is consistent with the federal Constitution, nor about the wisdom of S.B. 8, but about the constitutional authority of federal courts to entertain this pre-enforcement suit against a state law,” she wrote.

‘I escaped a Jewish cult that wanted me to marry my 12-year-old cousin’

When Mendy Levy was 15 years old, he had never thrown a baseball, seen a stuffed animal, watched television or held a cellphone.

Born into the extreme fundamentalist Jewish sect of Lev Tahor, he was, he told The Post, raised to distrust outsiders and to believe that Children’s Protective Services wanted to take Jewish children from their families and have them brought up as gentiles.

But the teenager reached his breaking point in September 2018. Lev Tahor’s leader, Nachman Helbrans (whose late father, Shlomo Helbrans, founded the group), allegedly commanded Levy to marry his 12-year-old first cousin.

“I knew it was wrong. After a Friday night service, Nachman [gathered us] to make an engagement,” Levy, now 18, told The Post. His young cousin’s face was covered — as is the Lev Tahor tradition for females, who wear long, black robes. “She was crying loud, and I didn’t want to do it. Finally, at 7 o’clock in the morning, we agreed — verbally, but not emotionally. The rabbi dipped a piece of bread in borscht, gave it to me and said, ‘Mazel tov, you are engaged.’”

Levy didn’t feel he could say no. “I feared, I would be charim [Yiddish for ostracized],” he said. “I feared that they could lock me up and beat me.”

According to sources, Lev Tahor was formed in Israel during the 1980s with the intention of practicing Judaism as it was 5,000 years ago.

Levy was far from the only member who claims he was forced into or threatened with marriage at a young age.

This past November, a federal jury in New York convicted Nachman Helbrans and co-leader Mayer Rosner on charges including conspiracy to transport a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. They are awaiting sentencing. The Department of Justice alleges that Helbrans arranged for his 13-year-old niece from Woodridge, NY, to marry a 19-year-old man and begin a sexual relationship with him for the purpose of procreating. Young mothers in Lev Tahor, according to the DOJ, were made to deliver babies in private homes so as to hide their ages.

Nachman Helbrans’ attorney declined to comment for this story. Lev Tahor’s leaders have previously denied accusations of wrongdoing or mistreatment of its members.

One Brooklyn-based source who has worked to free followers from Lev Tahor told The Post that the group has “a convoluted interpretation of Judaica, which believes that when a boy or girl hits maturity, at 12 or 13 years old, they have an obligation to get married.

“Nothing about this cult is unique or creative. But it became more archaic and problematic when Nachman took over. He is a complete sociopath,” said the source, who asked not to be named because he fears it will hinder his rescue work. “One of their big things is extortion: telling people, for example, that if they want to talk to their children before Yom Kippur, they have to donate money.”

It all began with just six members — including Levy’s grandparents, who were followers of Shlomo Helbrans — who moved from Israel to the United States around 1990. Four years later, Shlomo was convicted in the US and served two years in prison for kidnapping a 13-year-old boy. Shlomo later fled to Canada and regrouped Lev Tahor in the mountains north of Montreal, where Levy was born in 2003.

Matt Gaetz’s ex-girlfriend granted immunity in sex-trafficking probe: report

A former girlfriend of Rep. Matt Gaetz was granted immunity before she testified last week in front of a federal grand jury hearing evidence in the sex-trafficking probe of the right-wing lawmaker, according to a new report.

Two sources familiar with the investigation told CBS News that the unidentified ex of Gaetz (R-Fla.) is seen as a potential key witness in the case, with one source alleging that she has information related to both trafficking and obstruction of justice claims against the congressman.

As part of the obstruction of justice investigation, authorities are looking at whether Gaetz made a phone call to the ex-girlfriend and another woman who is also a witness in the investigation.

Multiple sources told CBS that the unnamed ex-girlfriend and the other woman on the phone call traveled to the Bahamas with Gaetz in 2018. The sources alleged a third woman — who was in a sexual relationship with Gaetz — was also on the trip. That woman was 18 years old at the time of the Bahamas trip, but officials are investigating whether she was 17 when the sexual relationship with Gaetz began.

According to the report, Joel Greenberg, a former Seminole County, Fla., tax commissioner and friend of Gaetz, introduced the congressman to the woman when she was 17 years old.

Gaetz has repeatedly denied all wrongdoing and his attorney, Isabelle Kirshner, emphasized to CBS News that they “have seen no credible basis for a charge against Congressman Gaetz. We remain steadfast in our commitment to challenge any allegations with facts and law.”

“I might be a wanted man by the deep state, but I am a Florida man, and it is good to be home,” Gaetz said last May amid the investigation, adding that “they will not silence me, we will not back down, and the truth will prevail.”

Investigators are also looking into whether any of the women were paid and illegally trafficked across state or national lines to have sexual relations with the Florida Republican.

The investigation into Gaetz began after Greenberg was hit with a slew of charges last year, including sex-trafficking a minor. In May 2021, Greenberg pleaded guilty to all of the charges.

Gaetz has not been charged with any crime.

The U.S.-funded United Nations is providing cash to help job-seeking migrants trek up through South America, Central America, and Mexico, says Todd Bensman at the Center for Immigration Studies.

“It is definitely organized,” Bensman told Breitbart News on Monday during a reporting trip to Tapachula in southern Mexico, where migrants arrive after crossing Central America:

They’re giving money out at way-stations up and down the [migrant] trail … There’s a process [in Tapachula]: You get your Mexican [visa] papers, then you go to the UN building next door, get an appointment, and they interview you and look at your situation… It’s not big money, and not all of them get it, but enough get it to sustain them so they don’t have to go home, and so they can go on to the next way station.

The funding helps poor migrants from Africa and Asia survive the deadly and brutal trek through South American, over the Darien Gap, through Central America, and into Mexico. Without the UN-provided money, many of the migrants risk going without food, shelter, or short-distance transport.

Texas Synagogue Attacker Was Known to UK Security Service MI5, Judged as No Risk

UK citizen Malik Faisal Akram, who had a known history of extreme behaviour stretching back over 20 years was known to British spy agency MI5 but had been judged as no longer posing a threat to the public in 2020, reports in UK media claim.

Malik Faisal Akram, 44, flew to the United States after Christmas 2021, and weeks later took hostages at the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue in Colleyville, Texas. He was shot dead by law enforcement officials at the scene.

Yet questions remain unanswered over how Akram was able to travel and gain access to a handgun given his long history of extremist behaviour. Just a day after it was revealed that Akram was barred from a UK courthouse just days after 9/11 for threatening staff and making comments about the attacks, it is now reported in UK broadsheet the Daily Telegraph that the Muslim male had been investigated by a British spy agency a little more than a year ago.

Quoting an unnamed source, the government-adjacent newspaper reported that “Malik Akram was known to MI5 and was the subject of a short lead investigation in 2020… The investigation was opened in the second part of 2020 and was closed shortly afterwards with an assessment that there was no indication he presented a terrorist threat at that time.”

This means, it is claimed, that although the agency received information about Akram he was not considered of sufficient interest to “pass the threshold” for a full investigation.

The paper notes that MI5, Britain’s domestic intelligence agency, didn’t even know Akram had travelled to the United States when he did and will now, it is claimed, assess how they came to misinterpret the danger he posed.

That the perpetrator of the Texas terror attack was known by MI5 but not well investigated, or dismissed as a low priority, has become a regular feature in the aftermath of such attacks in recent years in the UK.

Britain's FBI takes down encryption service used by criminal hackers to launch cyber attacks around the world

An encryption service used by cyber attackers to remain anonymous online has been shut down in an international operation involving the UK National Crime Agency.

Fifteen server infrastructures were shut down on Monday in an operation led by German police to take down LabVPN.

The NCA said the network was used by criminals connected to cyber attacks that 'caused significant economic harm to UK businesses', but would not say which ones while investigations are ongoing.

Set up in 2008, LabVPN offered virtual private network services via the dark web for around 60 US dollars per year.

The system allowed users to conceal their identity, including criminals who wanted to evade capture.

According to the NCA, its use was linked to ransomware campaigns - where hackers lock access to a user's information until they pay a ransom.

John Denley, deputy director of the NCA's National Cyber Crime Unit, said: 'Cybercriminals using LabVPN clearly thought they could operate with impunity, and remain under the radar of law enforcement.

'This operation shows they were wrong and that there is no hiding place from the combined power of global law enforcement when it comes to taking down illegal IT infrastructure.

'This included the NCA switching off servers which were being hosted in the UK.

'We continue to work closely with international partners to bolster our capability to respond to this national security threat and strengthen the UK's response to cyber crime.'

The UK announced it's sending anti-tank weapons to Ukraine

Amid simmering tensions, a bipartisan group of US Senators visited Kyiv and promised the US would provide Ukraine with more weapons if Russia invades the country.

After the delegation met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Sen. Richard Blumenthal said if Russia invades the US will “impose crippling economic sanctions, but more importantly, we will give the people of Ukraine the arms, lethal arms they need to defend their lives and livelihoods.”

Russia strongly denies that it is plotting an invasion, but the US won’t let the narrative die. Last week, Blumenthal joined 25 other Senate Democrats in introducing a bill that would sanction Russia and give more arms to Ukraine if the president determines Russia is being hostile towards its neighbor.

The Senate bill would authorize an additional $500 million in military aid for Ukraine on top of the $300 million authorized by the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act. Since the 2014 US-backed coup in Kyiv, the US has provided Ukraine with about $2.5 billion in military aid.

In Kyiv, Blumenthal said the US could give Ukraine more anti-tank Javelin missiles, as well as stinger missiles, small arms, and boats. The other Senators that joined Blumenthal in Ukraine were Rob Portman (R-OH), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Roger Wicker (R-MS).

Russia is not happy about the push to arm Ukraine, and it’s not just the US supplying weapons. The UK announced that it began providing Ukraine with anti-tank weapons. “We have taken the decision to supply Ukraine with light anti-armor defensive weapon systems,” British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace told Parliament, adding that the first delivery was made Monday.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Tuesday offered Israel’s “security and intelligence support” to the United Arab Emirates following a missile and drone attack that killed three people in the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi.

In a statement, Bennett condemned the attack, claimed by the Houthi rebels in Yemen. “I strongly condemn the terrorist attacks in Abu Dhabi carried out by the Iranian-backed Houthis and send condolences to the families of the innocent victims,” Bennett said.

“Israel stands with the UAE. I stand with [Crown Prince] Mohammed bin Zayed. The world should stand against terror.”

In a letter to bin Zayed, Bennett said Jerusalem was committed to working with Abu Dhabi “in the ongoing battle against extremist forces in the region, and we will continue to partner with you to defeat our common enemies.”

He said he had “ordered the Israeli security establishment to provide their counterparts in the UAE with any assistance” that could help to protect against future attacks.

The UAE vowed reprisals after the Houthi attack on Monday triggered a fuel tank blast that killed the three victims.

The United Arab Emirates is part of a Saudi-led military coalition that supports Yemen’s government against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who have repeatedly targeted Saudi Arabia with cross-border strikes.

As a result, a national body was established, charged with protecting critical infrastructures – power production, water supply, the health system and transportation. That was 20 years ago this month. At the same time, veterans of the army’s cybersecurity units spotted opportunities amid increased digitalization worldwide and set out to find solutions for the civilian world.

Today, Israel is a cybersecurity powerhouse, with exports of its products at around $10 billion, accounting for 10 percent of global cybersecurity exports, and with its startups in the field garnering over 40% of total global investments. The success of the cybersecurity industry grew out of the perfect alignment of government initiative — the designation of the field as strategically important for the nation’s safety and economy — and developments happening on the ground.

Now, with climate change looming as a global threat, The Times of Israel has pondered with experts whether Israel can work the same magic it did for cybersecurity to help the nation meet its climate goals and also, as it does so, make the world a better and safer place to live.

The answer is not straightforward: Israel is late to the climate game, but can still catch up, the experts said. The government is moving to make it a national priority, but whether these moves are serious will be determined by legislation and funding still to come.

Unlike cybertechnology, climate tech generally requires huge investments, hardware components that require manufacturing processes, and long development times, which deter both investors and entrepreneurs.

Billionaire liberal megadonor Chamath Palihapitiya said he does not care about China's genocide of its Uyghur ethnic minority and argued that the "narrative" around the issue "may not be true."

Palihapitiya's remarks came during a Saturday episode of his podcast All-In. The liberal billionaire, who has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to groups aligned with President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.), used the podcast to echo Chinese Communist Party propaganda. He said that China may not be committing genocide, that he's "not sure" if the nation is a "brutal dictatorship," and that the United States is not in a position to lecture China on human rights issues.

"Nobody cares about what's happening to the Uyghurs. You bring it up because you really care, and I think that's nice that you care, the rest of us don't care," Palihapitiya said. "I'm telling you a very hard, ugly truth, okay? Of all the things that I care about, yes, it is below my line."

Palihapitiya, who is a part-owner of the National Basketball Association's Golden State Warriors, has deep ties to the Biden administration. Both Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. Agency for International Development administrator Samantha Power served as advisers to Palihapitiya's venture capital firm, Social Capital, before they joined the Biden administration. Palihapitiya in 2020 gave $250,000 to the Biden Victory Fund.

A White House spokeswoman told the Washington Free Beacon the Biden administration rejects Palihapitiya's statement. "The Biden Administration rejects this statement and will continue to hold the PRC accountable," the spokeswoman said, pointing to Biden's support for the bipartisan Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act and other measures to "ensure all global supply chains are free from the use of forced labor."

The Warriors also worked to distance themselves from Palihapitiya, referring to him as a "limited investor who has no day-to-day operating functions with the Warriors."

"Mr. Palihapitiya does not speak on behalf of our franchise, and his views certainly don't reflect those of our organization," the team said in a statement.

In his Saturday episode, Palihapitiya also expressed doubt that China is actually engaging in genocide against the Uyghurs.

"I'm not even sure that China is a dictatorship the way that you want to call it that," Palihapitiya said after a cohost called the communist nation a "brutal dictatorship."

"This issue may be small data points being extrapolated in a way to create a narrative that may not be true," he continued.

Gary Chambers is running for a seat in the U.S. Senate representing Louisiana, and posted a video to YouTube on Tuesday announcing his campaign. In the video, Chambers is shown smoking marijuana in an outdoor leather armchair.

"Every 37 seconds, someone is arrested for possession of marijuana," Chambers said in the new video. "Since 2010, state and local police have arrested an estimated 7.3 million Americans for violating marijuana laws – over half of all drug arrests."

He continued, "Black people are four times more likely to be arrested for marijuana laws than white people. States waste 3.7 billion dollars enforcing marijuana laws every year. Most of the people police are arrested aren't dealers, but rather people with small amounts of pot. Just like me."

'Operation Green Light': Dozens of B.C. gyms commit to opening today in defiance of provincial orders

Hundreds, including gym owners and supporters, have taken to social media to decry the ongoing restrictions and to pledge their solidarity with the movement to defy the province's orders.

In a move branded as “Operation Green Light,” co-owner of Iron Energy Gym Kirsten Mark says more than 100 gyms will be joining her own establishment in opening their doors Tuesday, in defiance of British Columbia's provincial health order that mandates all gyms and exercise facilities be closed.

The provincial order itself states that “an adult must not participate in exercise or fitness in a workout gym or fitness facility on either an individual or group basis.”

As reported by CTV News, the province quietly updated the public health orders Monday to remove any references to restrictions expiring on January 18. Instead, each order now reads that it "does not have an expiration date."

Hundreds, including gym owners and supporters, have taken to social media to decry the ongoing restrictions and to pledge their solidarity with the movement to defy the province's orders.

In a petition authored by 'Operation Green Light' and featured on Change.org, the organizers call on the B.C. provincial government to lift the restrictions, which they argue are a “death sentence” for small businesses.

We, the small, independently-owned and operated health studios and communities of British Columbia have banded together to challenge the mandate released December 22 that closed our doors and to be reviewed on January 18. Restaurants, liquor stores, casinos, malls, NHL games and gyms located in work places have all remained open.

To be clear, if this closure is to extend past January 18, it is a death sentence for all small fitness, yoga and wellness businesses. We've surveyed dozens of fitness studio ownersall on the cusp of closing downand, complying with this new arbitrary mandate will be the nail in the coffin.

Shockingly, this recent mandate is not founded in research or medical advice. When asked for recent stats on tracking the virus to gyms, yoga studios or wellness spaces recent data cannot be provided by the government. If this mandate was truly based in science, hopefully our leadership wouldn't exempt team sports such as basketball, hockey and the use of pools, saunas.

To serve our communities and keep our businesses from closing permanently, we ask that there is a shift of messaging to promote health, immunity and exercise. 22 months into the pandemic and there has been little to no emphasis, education or support for mental, physical and emotional health.
