Astronomy and astro-physics are observational sciences. There are not many opportunities for experiments because of the extreme temperatures, pressures, and energies represented. Typically, 'anomalous' observations are made and noted and then theoreticians spend months, years, or decades attempting to explain the data. There will always be 'mysterious' objects that have yet to be explained because, well, the Universe is quite large and light (electro-magnetic wavelengths throughout the spectrum) takes a long time to reach us.
