Russia receives US response to security proposals

 

Envoy delivers US, NATO responses to Russian offer

 

Moscow has received the US response to the proposals concerning collective security in Europe, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Wednesday.

 

Ambassador John Sullivan delivered the responses from both the US and NATO to the Russian draft bilateral treaty made public in mid-December. Moscow proposed eight points in the draft, and expected a detailed response to each one.

 

The US was asked to stop any further NATO expansion to the east, halt military programs in non-member countries that used to be part of the Soviet Union – and pledge Ukraine and Georgia would “never” join the alliance – remove its nuclear weapons from Europe, and not deploy any offensive weapons capable of targeting Russia along its borders. Moscow demanded legally binding guarantees on all of those matters.

 

The State Department has reportedly asked Russia not to make its response public.Speaking at the Russian parliament earlier on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the ministry would communicate the “essence of their reaction” to the Russian public.

 

Lavrov explained that once the American response was received, the Foreign Ministry will work with other departments to give President Vladimir Putin a proposal of further steps concerning Russia’s security.

According to paperwork released by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday, Thomas G. Buckner, 65, of Gibsonia, and his brother, John P. Buckner, 67, of Lyndora, Pa., are among five individuals charged with crimes of "major fraud" against the U.S. Department of Defense.

Wisconsin Assembly Votes to Advance Rep. Ramthun’s Resolution to Reclaim Wisconsin’s Electors For President and Vice President That Were Certified Under Fraudulent Purposes

 

The Wisconsin Assembly voted unanimously in a voice vote in a privileged resolution to move forward Rep. Ramthun’s resolution to reclaim Wisconsin’s 10 electors for US President and Vice President who were certified under fraudulent purposes.

 

The voice vote was unanimous and passed the assembly earlier this evening.

 

The legislation will now move forward to the Wisconsin Rules Committee and to the Wisconsin Senate.

 

The legislation was introduced by Rep. Timothy Ramthun.

 

How it happened: Rep. Ramthun bravely called for a point of order on Tuesday during an open session of the Wisconsin Assembly. He did this by asking for a privileged resolution. His legislation was referred to the Rules Committee per parliamentary rules. Then debate continued on an existing Bill 743 in the Assembly.

 

The resolution was privileged. This way they were able to do a vote within the session that was currently in place. And the result was all “Yes”, a unanimous vote to move the legislation to the Rules Committee. It’s in the hands of Speaker Vos, a Republican. So Speaker Vos and the rest of the representatives have ten days to answer back on whether he’s going to push it to the floor for a vote. It is not clear what the Wisconsin Senate will do with it yet.

CDC Announces Changes to the Definition of “Fully Vaccinated”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced some changes on the definition of people who are classed as vaccinated against Covid-19.

 

Dr Rochelle Walensky, the Director of the CDC, said that the definition of fully vaccinated will now mean people who have also received booster jabs. The US health agency will now also stop referring to these people as “fully vaccinated,” but instead will call them people who are “up to date” with their vaccinations.

 

Walensky said: “What we are really working to do is pivot our language so that everyone is as up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines as they personally could be, should be based on when they got their last vaccine.

 

“So, importantly right now we are pivoting our language, we really want to make sure people are up to date.”

Liberal Supreme Court Justice Breyer Plans To Retire Before Midterms: NBC

 

In a midday headline that rocked Washington, NBC News reports that Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, one of the minority of liberal justices on the Court, is planning to retire before the midterms to give President Biden a chance to nominate and install a replacement.

 

Minutes ago, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tweeted a statement that neither confirmed, nor denied, the NBC News report, but simply said that each justice must make their own decision about when to retire.

"We propose that the organisms are forced to maintain a high metabolic turnover, which approaches the activity of microbes living in surface sediments and in laboratory cultures, to provide the energy required to repair thermal cell damage," said Felix Beulig from the University of Bayreuth, who is the lead author of the study. "The energy required to repair thermal damage to cellular components increases steeply with temperature, and most of this energy is likely necessary to counteract the continuous alteration of amino acids and loss of protein function," said the study leader, Tina Treude, UCLA professor of marine geomicrobiology.

 

It is far from trivial to detect microbial metabolic activity in sediments with less than 500 cells per cubic centimeter sediment, which is seven orders of magnitude lower than in the average surface sediment. "We worked under extremely controlled, sterile conditions and performed a large number of control experiments simultaneously with the sample incubations," said Florian Schubert from the German Research Centre for Geosciences, who conducted these analyses as part of his Ph.D. studies. US Citizens Told Depart Ukraine Now By Any Means Possible In New Embassy Alert

 

Ukraine in the past days has made it clear that it thinks both the US and UK's reduction of embassy staff and their families is an overreaction. On Monday and Tuesday, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov told parliament "there are no grounds to believe” Russia will invade imminently. "Don’t worry, sleep well," Reznikov said. "No need to have your bags packed." Ukrainian leaders have expressed anger over the move driven by 'hysteria' while outright rejecting as "premature" a State Department travel advisory for Ukraine on Sunday that cited "the increased threats of Russian military action."

 

Apparently undeterred by the contradiction and what it's eastern European ally is clearly advising against, the Biden administration has pulled the trigger on Wednesday, issuing an urgent advisory telling all American citizens they should depart Ukraine amid signs of an "imminent" Russian offensive.

 

"The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine is urging U.S. citizens in the country to consider departing now via commercial or other privately available transportation options, citing increased threat of Russian military action," according to Bloomberg.

 

The embassy's new security alert reads precisely:

The monkeys are originally from Mauritius an island country off the African coast.

 

Earlier this week a woman who came in contact with the monkeys said she is experiencing symptoms and has pink-eye and a cough.

 

Earlier this week, following the much-publicized crash, the CDC sent out a letter on precautions when dealing with monkeys. The CDC tells the first responders to monitor themselves and contact their physician if they experience symptoms.

 

“If you were within five feet of the NHP crates without respiratory and eye protection, monitor yourself for signs of illness including fever, fatigue, cough, diarrhea, and vomiting. If you become ill during the 31-day quarantine period (until February 21, 2022), you should immediately report to your physician that you had exposure to monkeys and notify the Pennsylvania State Department of Health at (717) 787-3350.”

Latest Actions by Durham Indicate a Broken Investigation by a Broken DOJ

 

The latest from the Durham investigation which should have been completed ages ago is not good news. According to reports, Durham’s team only this month found out about key evidence that should have been analyzed months ago.

 

As most Americans know, corrupt Obama officials during the 2016 Election used a false document (the Steele Dossier) as a basis for spying on the Trump campaign and Administration. This dossier was a lie created by the Hillary gang and the DOJ and FBI used it anyways in a coup attempt to have President Trump removed from office.

 

When Jeff Sessions was removed from office, Bill Barr came in and in May 2019 created an investigation into the beginnings of the Russia collusion sham. Per Lawfare blog:

 

 

In May 2019, Attorney General William Barr tapped Connecticut’s U.S. Attorney John Durham to look into issues related to the origins of the FBI’s Trump-Russia investigation. Durham is alongtime federal prosecutor inConnecticut known for leadingorganized crime and public corruption cases. In 2008, Attorney General Michael Mukaseytasked Durham with investigating the CIA’s destruction of interrogation videotapes. A year later, Attorney General Eric Holderexpanded Durham’s mandate to examine CIA torture allegations.

 

Now, Durham is conducting a comprehensive global probe of the U.S. government’s investigation of the Trump Campaign’s connections with Russia. The investigation covers pre- and post-election matters, and reportedly has come to include the unmasking of former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and the basis for the intelligence community’s assessment that Russia tried to help Donald Trump win the election in 2016. These are all matters on which President Trump has publicly commented. Before and after Durham began his investigation, Trump has often claimed, in fiery rhetoric, that the Trump campaign investigation, and the unmasking of Flynn, and the intelligence community’s assessment, were illegitimate. He has also charged that some of the people apparently under investigation by Durham engaged in misconduct on matters under investigation. Attorney General Barr has also publicly commented that some of the people under investigation engaged in serious wrongdoing.

 

This investigation has led to almost nothing to date. (At times there were doubts that the investigation was actually in place.)

Recently ousted Barclays CEO Jes Staley went to bat for convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein when he ran the investment banking division at JPMorgan, according to a report.

 

JPMorgan was examining whether to boot Epstein as a client because of his 13-month prison sentence tied to soliciting sex from a minor, but Staley — who ran the giant’s investment bank — argued that Epstein had paid his debt to society and should remain a client, according to the report Wednesday in the Financial Times.

 

Staley’s efforts came after Epstein was convicted in 2008, according to the FT. JPMorgan eventually severed its relationship with Epstein in 2013 — the same year Staley departed the JPM for a new job at a hedge fund before rising to run Barclays in 2015.

 

Staley’s support for Epstein at JPMorgan underscores his longstanding ties to the disgraced financier — and how he advocated on Epstein’s behalf well before it resulted in Staley’s exit from Barclays late last year.

 

In November, reports surfaced that Staley and Epstein had exchanged around 1,200 emails during Staley’s 30-year tenure at JPMorgan. Some emails revealed questionable and unexplained phrases like “snow white,” according to the FT.

 

Staley stepped down from Barclays in November after he reviewed initial findings from a probe by UK regulators into whether he’d mischaracterized his relationship with Epstein as purely professional, according to the FT. Staley is contesting the findings.

 

JPMorgan declined to comment to the FT. A spokesman for Staley also declined to comment.

 

Staley has stated his relationship with Epstein fizzled following the banker’s departure from JPMorgan.

The British Medical Journal (BMJ) is demanding pharmaceutical companies release raw COVID-19 vaccine data. BMJ Editors Peter Doshi, Fiona Godlee, and Kamran Abbasi published an editorial stating that “data should be fully and immediately available for public scrutiny” adding that much of the data from major vaccine manufacturers cannot be accessed because the vaccinations are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

 

The FDA is only producing data for Pfizer’s vaccine as both Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s vaccines are not approved by the FDA, despite the popular misconception that they are. Rather, the latter pair have “Emergency Authorization Use,” status, rather than FDA approval.

 

Initially, the FDA said it was willing to release 500 pages of data per month. A judge in Texas rejected this offer, ordering the entity release 55,000 pages of the data the FDA used to license Pfizer’s vaccine.

 

At present, Pfizer “has indicated that it will not begin entertaining requests for trail data until May 2025,” some two years after the primary study completion. Moderna may release data at some point this year, but not before trials are complete. The estimated completion data for Moderna’s study trial review and completion is October 27 2022.

 

The BMJ called the refusal to release data an “unacceptable delay” and “morally indefensible.” The editorial continues, “We are left with publications but no access to the underlying data on reasonable request. This is worrying for trial participants, researchers, clinicians, journal editors, policy makers, and the public.”

Neptune Strike '22 Kicks off Monday in Mediterranean

Starting Monday, NATO allies, including the United States, kick off the 12-day maritime exercise "Neptune Strike '22" in the Mediterranean Sea, Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby said during a briefing today.

The USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier, along with its carrier strike group and air wing will be the Defense Department's primary contribution to the exercise. The exercise will be led by U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Eugene H. Black III, who serves as Strikeforce NATO commander and also commander of the Navy's Sixth Fleet.

 

"[Neptune Strike '22] is designed to demonstrate NATO's ability to integrate the high-end maritime strike capabilities of an aircraft carrier strike group to support the deterrence and defense of the alliance," Kirby told reporters. "The USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group will be placed under NATO operational control and serve as the centerpiece for this long-planned activity that fosters NATO allies' ability to cooperate and integrate effectively."

 

Neptune Strike '22 has been in the planning stages since 2020, Kirby said, though he told reporters that the current tensions in Europe due to the uncertainty about Russia's intentions regarding Ukraine were considered when deciding whether to press on with the exercise.

 

"There was due consideration … given tensions right now, about our exercise posture," he said. "After all that consideration and discussion with our NATO allies, the decision was made to move ahead."

Kirby also told reporters that because planning for Neptune Strike '22 began in 2020, the exercise is not designed to incorporate scenarios which are directly related to current events in Europe.

 

"It wasn't planned back in 2020 anticipating … a Russian move on Ukraine," he said. "The exercise itself is not designed against the kinds of scenarios that might happen with respect to Ukraine. It really is a NATO maritime exercise to test … really a wide range of maritime capabilities that we want to make sure we continue to improve."

 

Right now, Kirby said, the U.S. sees a sizable Russian troop presence in the western part of Russia near the border with Ukraine. It's unclear now as to why those troops are there.

 

"It continues to be concerning," Kirby said. "You heard [Secretary of State] Blinken talk [about] this earlier today. We believe that there's still a path to diplomacy here and we would like to see the situation deescalated. And as I've said before, one significant key way for it to get deescalated is for the Russians to pull some of those forces back out away from the border with Ukraine. They have shown no inclination to do that. In fact, quite the contrary, I think they continue to add to the force presence there."

While Neptune Strike '22 is not related to that Russian aggression towards Ukraine, Kirby did say the Defense Department remains committed to Ukraine's ability to defend itself, and to having options available should NATO allies ask for assistance.

 

"We're going to make sure that we have options ready to reassure our allies, particularly on NATO's eastern flank," Kirby said. "If there's another incursion and if they need that reassurance, if they need the capabilities to be bolstered, we're going to do that. And we're going to make sure that we're ready to do that."

 

Kirby also said readiness isn't just a Defense Department responsibility or effort.

 

"I think this is a whole-of-government approach," he said. "It's not just about the Department of Defense, and quite frankly, as you've been seeing from other NATO allies who have also not only spoken to their concerns about what Russia is doing but actually moved on delivery of security assistance to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, it's an international community effort."

OUTRAGED Father Suing Florida School District For Secretly Pushing ‘Gender Identity’ On Daughter Before She Attempted Suicide

 

A father is suing a school district in Florida because the school was having secret meetings with his daughter about gender identity and he was only notified after she tried to commit suicide by hanging herself in the bathroom at the school:

 

A Clay County father said his rights as a parent were violated and now he’s taking the school district to court.

 

The suit, filed by Child & Parental Rights Campaign, claims a school counselor held secret weekly meetings with an elementary student about a gender identity crisis for months without alerting the parents.

 

“It is a serious mental health decision that school personnel are not qualified, not competent, and not authorized to make,” Vernadette Broyles, the organization’s president, said. “Parents must be involved in these important decisions.”

 

The father, who we are not naming to protect the identity of the child, said he was alerted on Jan. 5 that his daughter attempted to commit suicide on campus.

 

“It was a nightmare for us,” he told Action News Jax’s Robert Grant. He said the guidance counselor told him his daughter didn’t want to talk about it because of her parent’s Catholic faith.

 

“I took offense because that had nothing to do with it. I mean I don’t even know if she understands our faith. That demonstrated she was ignorant about it. Our faith is one of unconditional love for our children.”

 

The suit was filed Monday in federal court.

 

“To protect the rights of parents to be able to raise their children, to direct the care of their child, in accordance with their faith and without the interference of government officials,” Broyles said.

 

The suit alleges that school leaders encouraged others to call the 12-year-old a boy and gave her a new name without the parents knowing.

 

A Jacksonville counselor told Action News Jax that confidentiality is protected until the child presents a danger of harming themself or others, then they must notify the parent.

The SEC has approved hedge fund disclosures through Form PF.

 

This topic first came about back in October of 2021, where the SEC said they were going to be imposing a new rule on hedge funds.

 

This rule would force money managers to periodically disclose short sale reports.

 

It seems the Securities Exchange Commission has now come to a voting process and approved it today, January 26th.

US threatens Belarus with military move

 

Washington will be forced to react if Ukraine is invaded from Belarusian soil, says the US State Department

 

Belarus will face a “swift and decisive response” from Washington if it allows Moscow to use its territory to invade Ukraine, the US State Department threatened on Tuesday, amid growing fears that a Russian military incursion is imminent.

 

Speaking to the press, State Department spokesman Ned Price called Russia’s “surging of troops into Belarus” a “cause for deep concern.” Moscow and Minsk are currently preparing for the Union Resolve 2022 joint exercises, due to begin on February 10.

 

As a result, troops from around Russia are currently redeploying westward, with many now near the Ukrainian border. Washington believes the exercises could be a pretense for an invasion.

 

“We’ve also made clear to Belarus that if it allows its territory to be used for an attack on Ukraine, it would face a swift and decisive response from the United States and our allies and partners,” Price said. “If an invasion were to proceed from Belarus, if Russian troops were to permanently station on their territory, NATO could well have to reassess our own force posture in the countries that border Belarus.”

 

The State Department spokesman also called the decision by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to allow a large number of troops onto his territory as an “affront to Belarus’s sovereignty.”

 

In response, a senior Belarusian official said that he found the suggestion of a US response “humorous.”

 

“There has never been any threat from the territory of Belarus and Russia,” Oleg Gaidukevich, deputy chairman of the Belarusian Parliament’s Committee on International Affairs, said on Wednesday. “Lukashenko has said more than once that we can come with tractors and combine harvesters and sow wheat to Ukraine’s fields so they can have a good harvest. No more than that.”

 

“And all these sanctions packages are imposed just for the fact that we exist. For the fact that Belarus and Russia are on the world map,” he said.

 

In recent months, Western news publications and leaders have accused Russia of placing 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian border, with some claiming that the Kremlin is planning an attack in the near future. Moscow has repeatedly denied all suggestions of a possible invasion.

Marzo criticized the way prosecutors questioned Perlasca, including questions regarding the possibility of “an intimate relationship” between the cardinal and [Cecilia Marogna], an Italian political analyst who allegedly was hired as a consultant by Becciu.

Marogna is also facing charges of embezzling money through a humanitarian organization she ran in Slovenia.

Italy's former royal family have demanded the return of their crown jewels, believed to be worth £250million, that were taken away from them when the country abolished its monarchy.

 

The royals, who were exiled from Italy after the Second World War until 2002, want their collection of tiaras, necklaces, brooches and earrings returned to them from a vault in the Bank of Italy in Rome.

 

The royal House of Savoy's collection, comprising of 6,000 diamonds and 2,000 pearls, was taken away when Italians voted to abolish the monarchy after the war, with the then King Umberto II fleeing to Portugal.

 

The Italians were punishing the royal family for first collaborating with fascist dictator Benito Mussolini and then fleeing Rome in 1944 to avoid an invading German army.

 

Ever since, the jewels have been kept by the Bank of Italy and reports suggest they are worth up to £250 million (€300 million).

 

But now, the former royal family are calling for the jewels, which were worn by Italian queens and princesses, to be returned to them 78 years later.

 

'Italy should do what is right and fitting and restore the jewels to my family,' Prince Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, 49, told the Telegraph.

 

He added: 'The monetary value of the jewels doesn't interest us. What is more important is the historical and sentimental value that they have for the family.

 

'Italy is about the only republic in the world where the private property of the ex-royal family is still in the hands of the State. It's shameful. Even Russia and Yugoslavia restored private possessions to their royals.

 

'The jewellery has been hidden away in a chest for more than 70 years. Unlike the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London, these have never ever been on display to the public.

 

'It is about time that they were returned to the heirs of the royal family.'

 

A mediation meeting was held between lawyers for the Savoys and representatives of the Bank of England on Tuesday - but the meeting was inconclusive, the newspaper reported.

Florida senator, 37, who was extorted over nudes is introducing new law that makes creation of altered sexual images, known as deepfakes, a felony

 

A Florida senator whose nude photos were stolen and used in an attempted extortion is now working to improve the state's revenge porn rules by making it a felony to create and disseminate digitally altered, sexually explicit images.

 

Florida Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book introduced new legislation Tuesday that would also criminalize theft of real images in cases where the person sought to distribute or benefit from them.

 

Book, 37, was victimized by such a scheme last year after a teen claiming to be in possession of her intimate photos demanded $5,000 to have them deleted. The 19-year-old blackmailer sent Book pictures of her exposed breasts and threatened to destroy her career by sending them out.

 

Police later charged Jeremy Kamperveen with extortion and cyber stalking. It's not clear how the images were obtained, although Book had images of her and her husband on her phone, and said she shared a post-operation photo of her lumpectomy scar with a friend.

 

'I hate that this happened to me,' Book said. 'I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. But I´ll take it, because I know that I can do something about it.'

 

The bill sponsored by Book got its first committee hearing Tuesday.

 

It would strengthen Florida's revenge porn law by making it a felony to buy, sell or trade stolen sexually explicit images from someone's phone or other digital devices.

 

It would also make disseminating altered or created sexually explicit images, known as deepfakes, a felony.

 

The Senate Criminal Justice Committee unanimously approved the bill.

 

Hallandale Beach City Commissioner Sabrina Javellana thanked Book on Tuesday, saying she was the victim of a deepfake by someone who altered photos from her Instagram page as well as others on the internet.

 

'They looked very, very real as if they were nude pictures I had taken of myself,' Javellana said in a phone interview, adding that it triggered trauma from her past. 'I was raped my freshman year of college and it was like it was happening all over again.'

 

She reported the online images to law enforcement, but investigators said they couldn't do anything because Florida law didn't address deepfake images. She said she's grateful Book is taking on the issue.

How Dutch Israel lobby attacks free speech

 

There have been dozens of attacks on Palestinian rights defenders by Israel lobby groups in the Netherlands.

 

Smear campaigns, threats of violence, attempts at defunding human rights groups, efforts to restrict academic freedom, threats of lawsuits and cyberattacks are among the intimidation tactics identified in a report released this month by the European Legal Support Center (ELSC).

 

The Israel lobby group CIDI has been at the forefront of attempts to stifle advocacy for Palestinian rights and efforts to hold Israel accountable.

 

But the 76 incidents documented in the report also involve other Dutch pro-Israel groups, media, political parties, faith-based organizations, Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs and the Israel-based group NGO Monitor.

Israel lobby group CIDI in the forefront

 

Almost 60 organizations and groups and 23 individuals found themselves in the Israel lobby’s crosshairs between 2015 and 2020, the ELSC found.

 

CIDI or members of its staff were involved in 60 percent of the reported incidents. This outsize role appears to be a reason for pride.

 

Former CIDI staff member Hidde van Koningsveld boasted about his role in the incidents in a tweet branding them as a fight against “Jew-hatred and terrorism.”

 

Van Koningsveld – a convert to Judaism – appears to have recently changed his first name to Akiva. This coincides with his move to Israel last year.

 

He has taken Israeli citizenship and moved to Eli, one of a cluster of a colonies in the occupied West Bank that have dispossessed Palestinians of vast tracts of land.

 

This year the Dutch government appointed a national coordinator to fight anti-Semitism.

 

The person chosen to fill this role, Eddo Verdoner, has long been a CIDI board member . This appears to follow the model of other European anti-Semitism coordinators, whose activities suggest that their priority is shielding Israel from criticism rather than fighting bigotry.

 

Verdoner’s office has already accused Human Rights Watch of anti-semitism for its report published earlier this year finding that Israel commits the crime of apartheid, ELSC notes.

 

He has also claimed that supporting freedom in the whole of historic Palestine is the same as calling for the “dismantling of Israel” – that may be an implicit admission that equality is indeed impossible under Israel’s current regime.

 

Curiously, CIDI’s webpage about Verdoner contains no information.

A explosion at a chemical plant in Louisiana sent black smoke billowing into the air Wednesday afternoon in what witnesses are describing as a “mushroom cloud.” At least six people are reportedly injured as a result of the explosion.

 

According to WGNO, Louisiana State Police said the explosion took place at a Westlake Chemical around its ethylene dichloride storage tanks.

 

KPLC reported that plant officials said an empty ethylene dichloride tank exploded, but the cause is still under investigation. Hazmat crews have been called to the scene.

Area schools were put on a temporary shelter-in-place order, which was lifted just before noon local time.

 

“***11:58 a.m. update – The precautionary shelter in place has been lifted. As of 11 a.m. all Sulphur and Westlake schools are under a precautionary shelter in place. All students, faculty, and staff are safe. We will provide an update when it has been lifted,” the Calcasieu Parish School Board posted on Facebook.

'Elders Of Zion' book being sold by top booksellers

 

Top online booksellers such as Walmart, Book Depository, Thrift Books, Hudson Books, and Barnes & Noble are each selling dozens of versions of The Protocols of the Elders Of Zion.

 

The antisemitic text The Protocols Of The Meetings Of The Learned Elders Of Zion is being sold on popular book sellers' websites, Jewish social media users were outraged to learn on Tuesday.

 

Top online booksellers such as Walmart, Book Depository, Thrift Books, Hudson Books, and Barnes & Noble are each selling dozens of versions of The Protocols of the Elders Of Zion. Of note, these retailers are also selling a version published by Book Tree in 1999 that is causing outrage on social media.

 

The overview on Barnes & Noble's version of Book Tree's Protocols argues that if "The Protocols are genuine (which can never be proven conclusively), it might cause some of us to keep a wary eye on world affairs. "

 

The overview argues multiple times that the document may in fact genuine, as it contends that "we have not seen a clear and convincing version of it produced by those making the claim."

 

"Others maintain that it was and is absolutely genuine – proven by the fact that all copies were destroyed in Russia in the early 1900s by the Kerensky regime. In the following years, anyone caught with a copy could be, and sometimes were, shot on sight," says the product description. "The Protocols were taken seriously by the Russians and by people in America like the famed industrialist, Henry Ford. This seems to give it validity, but people (and nations) have been known to be fooled."

 

"Why is Barnes & Noble selling a forgery responsible for so much Jewish suffering, as if it’s a legitimate book?" Tweeted Melissa Braunstein. "If they want to sell it for courses on the evils of antisemitism, it should be summarized differently and include an introduction that's clear this document is a forgery, and responsible for untold Jewish suffering."

 

The seller argues that if "The Protocols are a forgery, they still form an interesting book which deserves to be studied in the same way The War of the Worlds radio broadcast duped many thousands…We neither support nor deny its message, we simply make it available for those who wish a copy."

 

However, the book cover also features blurbs mocking attempts to stop the sale of the book. "Stop selling books" is attributed to a German publisher. "…Is calling on [on-line booksellers] not to sell the book…calling the disclaimers an insufficient half-measure," is attributed to "an American Jewish organization."

 

Blackwell's, a UK bookshop, is also selling several dozen versions of the book, including the Book Tree version.

 

"This is what Blackwell's is pushing with the Protocols of there [sic] Elders of Zion," tweeted writer Tanya Gold, who encouraged others to read a synopsis of a version published in 2014 by On Demand Publishing.

Biden’s FCC Pick Reached Favorable Legal Settlement With TV Networks Just One Day After Her Nomination

 

Just one day after President Joe Biden nominated Gigi Sohn to the federal agency that oversees television networks, her nonprofit secured a favorable legal settlement with those same networks that reduced her financial liability by more than $30 million.

 

According to a confidential settlement revealed by Bloomberg Law, Sohn's now-defunct nonprofit, Locast, agreed to pay a number of top broadcasters $700,000 after it illegally streamed their programming. That amount is a mere fraction of the $32 million Locast was initially ordered to pay. Sohn, who served as one of the nonprofit's three directors, signed the agreement one day after Biden announced her nomination to the Federal Communications Commission, which regulates the same networks she settled with.

 

Sohn's settlement with the likes of ABC, CBS, and Fox has impeded her confirmation process. During a December hearing, Republican senators Roger Wicker (Miss.) and Roy Blunt (Mo.) expressed concern over the lawsuit, with Blunt asking Sohn if the ordeal would impact her "dealings with the very same local broadcasters that sued" Locast. Last week, Wicker called for a second hearing on Sohn's confirmation due in part to the "timing of this settlement in relation to her nomination."

 

"The possibility of the nominee's future financial liability to a number of companies regulated by the FCC, and the timing of this settlement in relation to her nomination, demands a full discussion by the committee to ensure that there is a clear understanding of the ability for this nominee to act without any cloud of ethical doubt," Wicker said. "The committee needs to hold a new hearing on this matter to provide the nominee an opportunity to fully address these concerns."

 

While Bloomberg Law wrote that Sohn's settlement "appears to undercut" Wicker's "stated reason for opposing her nomination," others aren't so sure. American Commitment president Phil Kerpen questioned both the timing and terms of the settlement, arguing that it raises new ethics questions.

 

"How does this eliminate criticism? The terms of the deal are incredibly favorable to her," Kerpen told the Washington Free Beacon. "How could anyone say that she can now objectively vote on anything involving any of the big broadcast networks that just basically let her company off the hook?"

 

Bloomberg Law initially published Sohn's settlement details under the headline, "FCC Nominee's Settlement Undercuts Rationale for Blocking Her." Hours after publication, the outlet changed that headline to read, "Biden FCC Nominee Settles Case That Spurred GOP Senator's Fight." Bloomberg Law did not immediately return a request for comment on the change.

 

Sohn's tenure on the board of the illegal TV streaming service is not the only reason Republican senators are hesitant to confirm her. Sohn, a longtime progressive activist, has also called for the shuttering of right-wing networks throughout her career, views that Sen. Dan Sullivan (R., Alaska) in December said "completely disqualify" her from public office.

British Special Forces Spotted Near Syria’s Al-Hasakah Prison Where ISIS Terrorist Have Been Holding Up

 

British special forces have been spotted near Geweran prison in the northeastern Syrian city of al-Hasakah where ISIS terrorists have been holding up for nearly a week now.

 

The terrorists launched a large-scale attack on the prison, which is located in the southern part of al-Hasakah, late on January 20. The attack, which was meant to free ISIS captives, ended up with the terrorists capturing the entire prison and nearby areas from the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

 

On January 25, the al-Ghad TV aired footage from the vicinity of Geweran prison showing a convoy of five “Escapade” Bushmaster PMVs [Protected Mobility Vehicles] of the British Army. These specially modified, highly armored vehicles are usually used by the British Army’s Special Air Service (SAS) units.

 

The presence of British special forces near Geweran is not surprising given that the UK is a key member of the US-led coalition who has been supporting the SDF’s efforts to re-secure the prison and nearby areas from the get go.

 

As of January 26, the coalition’s support has allowed the SDF to recapture much of Geweran prison and several nearby building from ISIS terrorists. The SDF was also able to free 32 hostages from the terrorists’ hands.

That’s how Elon Musk opened a conversation with 19-year-old Jack Sweeney over Twitter DM last fall. He was referencing a Twitter account, called @ElonJet, which tracks the movements of his private jet around the world.

 

It was a late-night message, coming in at 12:13 a.m. Sweeney’s time, but the college freshman didn’t lose any sleep. His reply, nearly seven hours later: “Yes I can but it’ll cost you a Model 3 only joking unless?”

 

@ElonJet is one of 15 flight-tracking accounts Sweeney has created, run by bots he’s programmed to parse the data and tweet every time a chosen plane takes off or lands. Each one follows a high-profile person, almost all in tech, including Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos. But Musk’s tracker is the most popular, with nearly 83,000 followers.

 

The account's popularity appears to have scared Musk. “I don’t love the idea of being shot by a nutcase,” he told Sweeney in their DM conversation.

 

The conversation continued for a few more messages. Musk asked Sweeney how much he made off the Twitter accounts, which Sweeney said was no more than $20 a month. Then Elon Musk made his own offer: $5,000 to delete the account and help the billionaire keep “crazy people” from tracking his location. Sweeney told Musk to add another 0. “Any chance to up that to $50k? It would be great support in college and would possibly allow me to get a car maybe even a Model 3.”

 

Musk said he’d think about it. But so far, he hasn’t paid Sweeney a dime, and the account is still running. Sweeney says he’s okay with getting ghosted. He’s benefited a lot from @ElonJet and the other accounts, he said: He's gained social media followers, learned how to code and even scored a part time job at UberJets as an application developer. Better yet, the self-described Elon Musk “fan” got to have a conversation with a man he’s looked up to for years.

 

Though the Twitter accounts haven’t led to any dangerous incidents so far, at least according to Sweeney’s knowledge and information available online, Musk does have a point. Celebrities getting ambushed at airports — by fans, by people who want to sell their autograph, paparazzi, stalkers and the like — is certainly a thing. And Musk and other tech CEOs have become bona fide celebrities in recent years. (Protocol contacted SpaceX’s media team to ask whether there had been any violent incidents or threats — one of the only remaining ways for the press to contact Musk after he dissolved Tesla’s PR team last year — but got no response.)

 

But Twitter bots don’t get starstruck. They’ve just gone on parsing the data Sweeney’s told them to. The 15 bots use FAA information when available — the administration keeps track of when and where planes depart and land, as well as their intended path. However, Musk’s plane and many others are on the LADD block list, which removes identifying information from the data.

 

Even blocked planes aren't truly private, though. In these cases, Sweeney uses data from the ADS-B transponders present on most aircraft which show a plane’s location in the air in real time as charted on the ADS-B Exchange. Parsing this information is like a logic puzzle: Sweeney’s bots can use a plane’s altitude, combined with how long ago the data was received, to determine when it is taking off or landing. They can then cross-reference latitude and longitude with a database of airports to determine where the plane is leaving or headed. And though Sweeney’s bots can’t pull from blocked FAA data to figure out where a plane plans to go, they can cross-reference the real-time ADS-B data with another website that posts anonymized versions of the FAA flight plans. This allows the bot to match the plane it is tracking in real time to the anonymized FAA flight plans and determine each plane’s intended destination. This information is all entirely public, and can be used to track most private aircraft.

 

It’s a loophole in high-profile security that has only flown under the radar because one needs a lot of industry-specific knowledge to know all this data was available and public, and to understand how to parse it. Sweeney had that context: His father works in the airline industry, and Sweeney has been tracking planes since he was a child. Like many young boys, he says he would try to identify types of planes as they flew across the sky, often checking his guesses against what he could find in online flight tracker apps.

 

Once Sweeney explained to Musk where he was finding the data, the entrepreneur was surprised by how accessible it all was. “Air traffic control is so primitive,” he said.

They’re not sure what the object is, but it’s fairly close by at just 4,000 lightyears away, in our “galactic backyard,” according to astronomers. They’ve have never seen anything else like it.

Researchers say the object could be a white dwarf or a neutron star with an exceptionally strong magnetic field. It’s spinning fast, shooting the beam of radiation flashes at Earth about three times an hour. For one minute out of every 20 minutes, the object is one of the brightest sources of radio waves in the sky.

 

Curtin University student Tyrone O’Doherty was the first to see the object while using the Murchison Widefield Array telescope in western Australia’s outback. Since he first spotted it, the object has confused the astronomers who have been studying it.

According to NewScientist, the object pulses with a steady rhythm, brightening for 30 to 60 seconds every 18.18 minutes. However, astronomers have never seen anything else that pulses with that rhythm. Most objects that flash and blast radio waves into space pulse much faster, brightening and then disappearing in only seconds.

 

Astronomers believe the pulsing suggests the object is spinning, and other measurements suggest it could have a powerful magnetic field. As a result, researchers think it could be a magnetar, a kind of neutron star whose magnetic field is especially strong. However, it’s unclear how a magnetar could spin so slowly and shine so brightly.
