Energy Secretary Granholm Violated STOCK Act 9 Times In 2021, Spox Blames ‘Clerical Error’

 

Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm blamed a “clerical error” for serial violations of the law that governs the reporting of securities transactions, according to Insider.

 

Granholm violated the STOCK Act nine times in 2021, Insider first reported Thursday. The secretary filed two reports with the Office of Government Ethics on Dec. 15 and 16 detailing nine stock transactions that she conducted between April 30 and Oct. 26. All nine transactions fall outside the 45 day window that the STOCK Act mandates government officials report their trades within, according to Insider.

 

“This was an inadvertent clerical oversight on reporting stock sales that ethics officials previously determined did not pose a conflict in her role as Energy Secretary and the Secretary paid the late filing fee,” an Energy Department spokeswoman said of Granholm’s transactions.

 

Granholm’s stock holdings have faced scrutiny from conservatives since President Joe Biden announced her nomination to the position in December 2020. At the time, Granholm sat on the board of Proterra, an electric vehicle company. She sold $1.6 million in the company’s stock in May, in keeping with a promise she made to divest her holdings within 180 days of entering the Biden administration.

 

One of the companies detailed in the transaction report, home security firm Vivint, has ties to green energy firms. Three months before Granholm sold the stock, Vivint partnered in July with Freedom Forever, a solar energy company that installs panels on homes and apartments.

 

Congress is considering several potential changes to the STOCK Act, following an Insider report detailing widespread noncompliance with the ethics law. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has expressed resistance to several proposals that would prohibit members of Congress and their top aides from buying and selling individual stocks, despite growing bipartisan support for an ethics reform package. US asks Russia to prove a negative

 

The US Secretary of State has urged Moscow to ‘convince the world’ it has no plans to attack its neighbor

 

During talks on Friday in Geneva with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken asked his counterpart to prove a negative.

 

The diplomat urged Moscow to move troops, stationed on its own territory, away from the Ukrainian border so as to “convince the world” it harbored “no aggressive intent” toward its neighbor.

 

Blinken said the other step Russia could take was to engage in dialogue and diplomacy, “which is what we did today.”

 

He warned Lavrov of a “united, swift, and severe response,” should Moscow “pursue aggression against Ukraine," adding that, while he had expected no breakthroughs, the two nations were “now on a clear path to understanding.”

 

Referring to Russia’s calls for NATO to give guarantees that Ukraine would not become part of the military alliance, Lavrov stressed that Moscow was seeking “concrete answers to our concrete proposals.” He expressed cautious optimism, as Washington has promised to provide Russia with written answers to all those points next week.

 

According to Lavrov, American calls for de-escalation at the Ukrainian border have, by now, turned into a mantra, much like its arguments about countries having the right to freedom of choice with respect to joining any alliance. The foreign minister said Moscow had furnished the US and NATO with multiple documents that clearly stipulate that such options cannot be exercised at the expense of other nations’ security.

 

The two diplomats have agreed to follow-up conversations on these matters, with a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Joe Biden, also potentially on the table.

 

Western media outlets and senior politicians alike have been claiming for months that Russia is planning to invade Ukraine. Moscow has consistently denied those allegations, dismissing them as baseless, and cited its right to move its troops within its territory as it pleases without having to account for those maneuvers to other nations. The Kremlin has also made it clear that it takes issue with the fact that some Western nations have sent weapons to Ukraine.

That's not to say that the Chinese Communist Party is pulling out of American higher education. Far from it. But China knows that Confucius Institutes have become politically toxic, and it has shifted its focus toward other means of engagement.

 

Last year the Chinese government reorganized and rebranded Confucius Institutes, and I predicted colleges and universities would start to walk away from the name as well. Already, Asia Society, a private nonprofit that cosponsors a K-12 version of Confucius Institutes, has renamed its program the “Chinese Language Partner Network.” Colleges and universities, too, are busily "closing" their Confucius Institutes, only to replace them with other, substantially similar, forms of partnership with the Chinese government. Sometimes these universities establish new China-focused initiatives, retaining some Confucius Institute staff and programs.

 

For example, the University of Michigan continued to receive funding from the Hanban, the Chinese government agency responsible for Confucius Institutes, even after its Confucius Institute closed, according to foreign gift disclosures. Other universities, like Tufts, are establishing new partnerships with the same Chinese universities that were their partners in hosting Confucius Institutes. Tufts has said it is closing its Confucius Institute in order "to focus on expanding and deepening its relationship with [Beijing Normal University].

 

The Chinese government launched Confucius institutes to establish close ties within American higher education, ties that would enable it to spread propaganda but also exert influence.

 

The Chinese Communist Party knows that and is prepared. Chinese government influence is appearing under new names, in new guises.

On Wednesday, the Wisconsin Assembly held another election integrity hearing to present evidence of voter fraud and irregularities that have been found in their investigation of the rigged 2020 election.

 

And just like last month’s election hearing, they dropped some serious bombshells.

 

Yesterday’s hearing built on those findings and presented more questions for the Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC), which has failed to answer previous questions on the 2020 election.

 

They did however respond to the reported 119,283 active voters who have been registered for over 100 years, but their weak response just didn’t cut it.

 

Wisconsin Assembly Attorney Dean O’Donnell, who is an expert analyst on the election integrity team, called out the official explanation that was given, saying “it does not hold water,” before dropping some more of his team’s jaw-dropping findings of corruption in the 2020 election.

 

According to O’Donnell, they found an astronomical 569,277 registered voters had an application date of 1/1/1918, which accounts for roughly one out of every fourteen voters in the state’s database.

 

Oh, and wait, there’s more. One out of every five of those “phantom voters” apparently cast a ballot in 2020 – a whopping 115,252 of them to be exact.

 

Insane.

Veteran official Sergey Lavrov had some choice words for an American reporter

 

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has hit out at a series of questions from American news network CNN, which probed Moscow about its decision to raise concerns about NATO while reportedly bulking up its presence on the Ukrainian border.

 

Speaking on Friday in Geneva following discussions with his American counterpart Antony Blinken, Russia’s top diplomat poured scorn on a journalist’s assertion that Moscow could stage an incursion into Ukraine – a prospect that has been raised repeatedly by Western leaders and media outlets in recent months.

 

“You claim that [Russia] is planning to attack Ukraine, even though we have already explained many times that this is not the case,” he insisted. “But when you assert that this will happen, you immediately ask ‘Why now? When aren’t we going to attack?’”

 

In response to a question about the need to make deployments to the border when the security stance of Washington and NATO has remained fairly unchanged in the past few years, Lavrov said that the US-led military bloc was designed against the world’s largest country.

 

“It was set up against the Soviet Union and for some reason it still works against Russia,” he said, adding that Moscow had previously warned about the inclusion of the Baltic states in the alliance.

 

He ended his remarks to the journalist with a request for CNN to be more “accurate with [your] facts.”

 

Lavrov’s remarks come after the two diplomats held talks in the Swiss city of Geneva, the latest in a series of diplomatic meetings after Moscow handed over two draft treaties last month. One document was addressed to Washington and the other to NATO, which Russia says are designed to reduce the risk of conflict on the European continent.

Virginia Dems Block Ivermectin, HCQ Treatments for COVID Patients, Order Capitol Police to Throw Citizens Out

 

Virginia State Senate Democrats blocked a bill on Thursday that would have allowed healthcare providers to prescribe Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine to COVID patients, shutting down a public comment session and ordering Virginia Capitol Police officers to throw citizens out of the room.

 

The move came as members of the Senate Education and Health Committee took up Senate Bill 73, introduced by conservative Senator Amanda Chase. The bill would have allowed licensed healthcare providers with prescriptive authority to prescribe Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine to patients suffering from COVID-19.

As Democrats moved to kill the bill, Committee Chairwoman Louise Lucas silenced a public comment session, cutting the remote audio feed of Charlottesville radio show host Rob Schilling as he addressed the people’s elected representatives and advocated to keep the government out of healthcare decisions.

 

After the committee’s party-line vote, Lucas continued to silence the citizenry, including doctors and the family members of COVID patients who came to speak on the bill, repeatedly banging her gavel as she ordered Virginia Capitol Police officers to remove those concerned with SB73 from the room.

People who had filed an acommodation received an email late last year saying that Corp had hired a 3rd party to review because they specialized in these types of review. Here's what I found out so far.

 

CareValidate, FL was incorporated as a Foreign Profit Corporation on January, 10th ''2022''. That's right - this year. The word "Foreign" in this scenario refers to a company that was incorporated in FL by an existing company. In this case, CareValidate, GA. This parent company was founded on January, 1st 2018 and operates in the health care, tech and insurance. They received seed funding of $1.1M on August, 3rd 2020 from American Enterprise Ventures. That's right, they didn't have any money until 'covid hit'. American Enterprise Ventures has funded 2 other companies, both in the health care industry.

 

In short, this company has zero experience evaluating religious accommodations as they simply haven't been around long enough to be experienced in anything. Total con job.

Just got off the phone with my father and he was panicking about finding a COVID test because a friend of his he had coffee with on Monday tested positive. Bezos-backed anti-aging project to be headed by GSK boffin

It was announced this week that Hal Barron, a highly regarded US scientist, would be moving to the biotech start-up Altos Labs, leaving GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) after five years with the drugmaker.

 

The 59-year-old will now head up the San Francisco-based firm, which focuses on the biology of cellular rejuvenation programming, with the aim of reversing disease.

A judge will decide whether to allow WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s appeal

 

In a tweet on Friday, WikiLeaks said that the UK would be ruling on whether founder Julian Assange could appeal his extradition to the US. The High Court will deliver its decision on Monday.

 

“The UK High Court will deliver its decision on Monday morning [24 January] about whether to permit Julian Assange to appeal the US extradition decision to UK Supreme Court,” the tweet said.

 

“This could be the last chance to stop Julian Assange’s extradition to the US,” tweeted Rebecca Vincent, Director of International Campaigns at Reporters Without Borders, adding “whatever happens next, the UK also bears legal & moral responsibility.”

 

Assange, who faces charges of espionage in the US, spent years inside the Ecuadorian embassy in London, before a new government in Quito revoked his asylum.

Assange’s fiancée Stella Moris claims his health has deteriorated considerably, and recently revealed that he had suffered a stroke last October.

 

In December, the UK high court ruled to allow his extradition to the US. If the extradition goes ahead, Assange will face espionage charges for publishing documents about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq in 2010. A conviction could carry a 175-year prison sentence.

Thanks to an investigation conducted by the German law firm Westpfahl Spilker Wastl, it is likely going to be that before he became pontiff, Joseph Ratzinger knowingly allowed rampant clerical sex abuse to continue when he was head of the Munich diocese. “During [Ratzinger’s] time in office there were abuse cases happening,” Martin Pusch, who headed the investigation ordered by the German church, told reporters. “In those cases, those priests continued their work without sanctions. The church did not do anything.”

 

That global systemic sex abuse at the hands of priests went on unchecked for decades is well known by now. The German church had found that more than 3,600 victims had been raped and sexually abused by priests between 1946 and 2014, which led to the report.

 

What makes this case so important is that Ratzinger, before he became pope, also led the Holy See Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Catholic Church’s watchdog on policy. He was appointed to that position after his work in German church, which is now clearly under question. Many victims of sexual abuse have long thought he did not do enough when he was head of the church’s doctrine office, which could have stopped the abuse from happening from the top, rather than ignoring reports.

 

In the case of the German church, Pusch said they can tie then-Ratzinger to a number of specific cases. “We believe that he can be accused of misconduct in four cases,” he said. “Two of these cases concern abuses committed during his tenure and sanctioned by the state. In both cases, the perpetrators remained active in pastoral care.”

 

Benedict, who was the first pope to retire in more than four centuries, said he did not remember the specific cases. “As far as you mentioning the moral abuse of minors by priests, I can only, as you know, acknowledge it with profound consternation,” he wrote at the time of his resignation. “But I never tried to cover up these things.”

Pusch accused the former pontiff, who is now 94, of being “defensive” in his cooperation with the report, which was commissioned by the German church Ratzinger was once an integral part of. He referred to the resignation letter in his press conference and tried to shift focus by accusing the former pontiff of blatant wrongdoing, saying he “claims that he didn’t know about certain facts, although we believe that this is not so, according to what we know.”

 

Ratzinger was not the only German prelate found negligent. Cardinal Reinhard Marx, who currently heads the diocese of Munich and who is a key ally of Pope Francis, also “failed” in at least two cases, the lawyers said.

 

Marx offered his resignation to Francis last year when the report was commissioned. Francis told him to stay on his job. On Thursday, he apologized for the sins of the church, but not for his own—at least until he has had time to “digest” the accusations laid out in the report, which has not yet been published. “As the current archbishop, I apologize on behalf of the archdiocese for the suffering inflicted on people in the area of the church in recent decades,” Marx said in a statement. “Now is the time to pick up the momentum that the report gives and to take further steps into the future.”

 

But victims’ groups believe that the time for change has long passed. “To us, this is not shocking news,” SNAP, a survivor network, said in a statement. “Sadly, we see these unsavory actions and inactions surface years later, after lengthy silence by church officials and painful memories harbored by victims.”

 

Other survivors say the report will leave a darker mark on the former pope’s legacy. “This building of lies that was constructed here in Munich to protect Cardinal Ratzinger, Pope Benedict, collapsed today,” Matthias Katsch, who leads a group representing German clergy abuse survivors, told German media, calling the moment “historic.”

 

Marx, a spokesman for Benedict as well as the Vatican, said they would need to read the full report before making a comment. “The Holy See considers that appropriate attention should be paid to the document, whose contents are presently unknown,” the Vatican said. “In reiterating shame and remorse for abuses committed by clerics against minors, the Holy See expresses its closeness to all victims and reaffirms the efforts undertaken to protect minors and ensure safe environments for them.”

ESPN follows NBC's lead, will not send news personnel to Beijing Olympics

ESPN will not be sending news personnel to the Beijing Olympics next month due to COVID-19 concerns and restrictions, Deadline reported Thursday.

 

ESPN was planning to send four reporters to China to cover the games. The decision arrives after Olympics rightsholder NBC confirmed it would also be keeping sports announcers remote rather than on-site for the same reason, per The New York Times.

 

"The safety of our employees is of utmost importance to us," said ESPN's Norby Williamson. "With the pandemic continuing to be a global threat, and with the COVID-related on-site restrictions in place for the Olympics that would make coverage very challenging, we felt that keeping our people home was the best decision for us."

 

ESPN said the network will instead "focus on covering the Games remotely."

 

Considering its rights deal, NBC will still have "by far the biggest contingent of U.S. media" covering the Games in China, writes Deadline.

 

"We'll still have a large presence on the ground in Beijing, and our coverage of everything will be first rate as usual, but our plans are evolving by the day as they are for most media companies covering the Olympics," Senior Vice President of Communications at NBC Sports Greg Hughes told USA Today on Wednesday.

 

The 2022 Winter Olympics will kick off on Feb. 4, running through Feb. 20.

A European Commission spokesperson has confirmed that the union has begun to “re-establish a minimal presence” in Afghanistan

 

The European Union (EU) has become the first Western institution to “re-establish” its presence in Afghanistan after the EU member states and other nations abandoned the country ahead of the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul in August.

 

“The EU has started to re-establish a minimal presence of international EU Delegation staff to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and monitor the humanitarian situation,” European Commission Foreign Affairs Spokesman Peter Stano confirmed.

 

The Taliban tweeted ahead of the EU’s statement that the EU had “officially opened its embassy with a permanent presence in Kabul & practically commenced operations” after “reaching an understanding” between the bloc and militant group.

 

Despite returning to the Middle Eastern country, the EU refused to recognize the Taliban-led administration as the official government of Afghanistan, calling them the “de facto authorities.”

 

The move from the European Commission comes as the Norwegian Foreign Ministry has invited Taliban representatives to Oslo to hold talks with the international community and Afghan civil society members.

 

“These meetings do not represent a legitimization or recognition of the Taliban. But we must talk to the de facto authorities in the country. We cannot allow the political situation to lead to an even worse humanitarian disaster,” Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt said.

 

The Taliban addressed the planned visit on Friday, stating that a senior delegation led by Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi will leave for Oslo on Saturday.

Citizens detain mayor on suspicion of corruption

 

Residents of San Martín Peras, Oaxaca, are demanding that state authorities carry out an audit

 

Citizens from an indigenous town in Oaxaca beat up the mayor and detained him along with the town’s Education Minister for alleged corruption on Monday.

 

People from San Martín Peras, in the Mixtec region of Oaxaca, 300 kilometers west of Oaxaca city, accuse the mayor, Román Juárez Cruz, and the Education Minister, Braulio González Ortiz, of illicit dealings and of breaking the the indigenous governing code known as usos y costumbres.

 

They said they told Juárez to resign on November 14, but that he refused to leave the position. The citizens assured that he and his family had not been harmed.

 

A video on social media shows people blocking off a pickup truck on a highway and forcing Juárez out of his vehicle, the newspaper Milenio reported.

 

The community has asked the Oaxaca Congress to dismiss Juárez and the state auditor OSFEO to carry out an audit of his spending.

 

The president of the Citizens’ Municipal Committee, Elpidio Ramírez Morales, said most of town’s citizens were involved in the action. “The people, committed to their usos y costumbres, decided to [apprehend] … Mr. Román Juárez Cruz and Mr. Braulio González Ortiz.”

 

Ramírez added that citizens wouldn’t accept an unelected mayor as a replacement. “There’s a possibility that the Congress will enact a dispersal of powers. Texas judge blocks Biden federal worker vaccine mandate

WASHINGTON — A U.S. judge in Texas issued a nationwide injunction on Friday barring the federal government from enforcing President Joe Biden's requirement that federal workers without qualifying medical or religious exemptions be vaccinated for COVID-19.

 

Judge Jeffrey Brown, who was appointed to the District Court for the Southern District of Texas by then-President Donald Trump, ruled that opponents of Biden's vaccination mandate for federal employees were likely to succeed at trial and blocked the government from enforcing the requirement.

 

Biden announced in September that more than 3.5 million federal workers were required to undergo vaccination, with no option to get regularly tested instead, unless they secured approved medical or religious exemptions. The requirement kicked in this past November, and White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Friday that 98% of federal workers are vaccinated.

 

"We are confident in our legal authority here," she added.

 

Those out of compliance with the policy were referred to counseling and could be terminated under an executive order signed by Biden.

 

Brown wrote that at issue was whether the president "can, with the stroke of a pen and without the input of Congress, require millions of federal employees to undergo a medical procedure as a condition of their employment." He added, "That, under the current state of the law as just recently expressed by the Supreme Court, is a bridge too far."

 

The Justice Department said it would appeal the ruling.

 

The suit was brought by the group Feds for Medical Freedom.

It turns out this wasn't an outlier. A full year's look by Gallup at political preferences in 2021 shows that they have undergone a dramatic shift away from the Democratic Party. Both the 9-point Democratic advantage in the first quarter and the 5-point Republican edge in the fourth quarter are among the largest Gallup has measured for each party in any quarter since it began regularly measuring party identification and leaning in 1991.

 

Youngstown State University professor Paul Sracic said it is pretty unprecedented for a party to fall this far from grace in just one year. "This big party shift just doesn't ever happen, and these numbers are just stunning." Sracic speculates the numbers just have to make Democratic strategists sick to the stomach. "It is hard to think of a worse-case scenario," he said.

 

The former two-time Fulbright Scholar, an expert in modern American populism, said it is also fascinating that these voters are moving away from Democrats despite a tremendous amount of cultural pressure. "And that is an important nuance to include at looking at this historic shift."

Republicans received 51.7% of the votes overall. Democrats got 44.9%. That was a 6.8-point gap.

POLL: 52% Of Parents Considered New Schools For Their Kids

 

QUOTE: A new poll from National School Choice Week uncovered that 52% of parents considered, or are considering, new schools for their children in the past year.

 

The poll, released Monday, asked parents with children between the ages of five and 18 if at any point in the past year they considered "finding a new or different school for any of the children" in their household? Eighteen percent of parents said they chose a new school for their kids, 20% said they looked into school choice options and decided against a switch, and 14% said they are "currently considering it." An additional 47% of parents said they "wish [they] had more time to consider the schooling options" for their children.

 

The survey was conducted from Jan. 3 to Jan. 6 and was delivered to 2,715 respondents via Survey Monkey's National Audience. The margin of error was +/- 2 percentage points.

 

Black and Hispanic parents are actively looking for new school options at higher percentages than their white counterparts, according to the study. Support for school choice is also higher among black and Hispanic parents than white parents. Overall, 73% of black parents, 72% of Hispanic parents, and 69% of white parents support school choice, according to the poll.

At the forefront of Seattle Public Schools’ (SPS) initiatives was Tracy Castro-Gill, until recently its director of ethnic studies, who represented herself as a fierce Chicana who overcame homelessness and was willing to take on racism no matter who she had to battle, turning schools into vehicles for social change.

 

Castro-Gill, it turned out, was a perennially unhappy toxic liar, one who misrepresented her background to the point that her own father compared her to Rachel Dolezal, and who was ultimately pushed out of her job for repeated misconduct. A focus on racial oppression did not create resiliency, but rather despondency, with Castro-Gill and three other racial justice leaders going on paid leave from SPS for mental health issues in 2019 alone.

 

As Castro-Gill used children for politics in the workplace, her personal life also raised questions about the costs that can incur. She married a convicted child molester and moved her young daughter in with him. Then, her previous ex-husband told me, she pressured her child, who had serious mental impairments, to become gender-nonbinary.

 

The academic achievement of Seattle’s youth plummeted as she implemented initiatives like replacing math instruction with courses on “power and oppression.” But in this world, there was no such thing as failing: Those gaps were used to justify still more jobs and efforts like hers. The question became unavoidable: Did the federal government have involvement in January 6? We don't know the answer to that question – and that's a problem for a constitutional republic.

JTA — Rep. Lauren Boebert asked a group of kippah-wearing Jewish visitors in a US Capitol building elevator on Thursday if they were there to do “reconnaissance,” Buzzfeed News reported.

 

The outspoken Colorado Republican claimed the comment was a joke tied to criticism she has received over Capitol tours she reportedly gave in the days before the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection there.

 

Some in the elevator “got it,” she told Buzzfeed.

 

But an unnamed rabbi who was part of the group, which was visiting with Democratic House Rep. Tom Suozzi to mark the 41st anniversary of the end of the Iran hostage crisis, said he was left “very confused.”

 

“When I heard that, I actually turned to the person standing next to me and asked, ‘Did you just hear that?’” the rabbi said.

 

The rabbi added that “people are very sensitive” in the wake of the hours-long hostage situation that unfolded last weekend at a synagogue in Texas.

 

Another unnamed witness said Boebert looked over the group from “head to toe,” suggesting that she understood she was speaking to Jews when she made the comment.

 

She told Buzzfeed, “I’m too short to see anyone’s yarmulkes.”

 

The unidentified group supports Suozzi’s efforts to get the Iran hostage survivors Congressional Gold Medals, Buzzfeed reported.

 

“The bottom line is that everyone, especially members of Congress, have to be very, very thoughtful in the language they use,” Suozzi said in a statement. “You can’t be cavalier in the comments you make especially if they could be perceived as being antisemitic, or discriminatory.”

 

Boebert has taken heat several times in her short tenure in the House so far, including for suggesting that Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar was a terrorist. In July, the Auschwitz museum condemned her rhetoric after she called public health employees working to combat COVID-19 “needle Nazis.”

Presbyterian Church senior official: Israel commits 'slavery' against Palestinians

Israel is committing modern slavery against Palestinians through its control of the disputed territories, said Stated Clerk Rev. Dr. J. Herbert Nelson II of the US Presbyterian Church on Monday in a Martin Luther King Jr. Day statement.

"The continued occupation in Palestine/Israel is 21st-century slavery and should be abolished immediately," wrote Nelson. "Given the history of Jewish humble beginnings and persecution, there should be no ambiguity as to the ethical, moral, and dehumanizing marginalization and enslavement of other human beings."

"I would also hope that the Jewish community in the United States would influence the call to join the US government in ending the immoral enslavement," Nelson continued.

Nelson's MLK Day statement took stock of the major issues plaguing the United States. He briefly touched on religious, racial, and economic divisions and narcotics epidemics, but a chief focus in the statement was the "opportunity to free the captives" in "Palestine/Israel."

Jewish organizations responded to Nelson's statement with sharp criticism.

The Anti-Defamation League's CEO and national director Jonathan Greenblatt called the address an "irresponsible statement directed at American Jews on the occasion of Martin Luther King Jr. Day," in a letter sent to the Church official.

"Your call to action went well beyond criticism of Israeli policies in this complex conflict or even calls for justice for Palestinians. Instead, you presented Israel as the epitome of evil: an unethical, immoral, dehumanizing, marginalizing entity that has put another people into 'enslavement,'" wrote Greenblatt. Science magazine reported Thursday that "coronavirus vaccines may cause long covid-like symptoms," though they insist it's only "in rare cases."

 

John Travis, Managing Editor for News at Science, shared the article on Twitter while noting how "delicate" their reporting had to be.

In 2020, while hunting for antibody therapies for COVID-19, he and his colleagues discovered that of 18 antibodies they identified with potent effects against SARS-CoV-2, four also targeted healthy tissues in mice—a sign they could trigger autoimmune problems.

Dr. Charles Hoffe said similar over six months ago and he got put under a gag order by the Canadian government and was widely demonized and censored for his trouble.

 

I guess he wasn't "delicate" enough seeing as how he claimed he saw microclots in 62% of the patients he gave D-dimer diagnostic tests to post-vax.

 

NIH apparently tried to help a few people with "postvaccine complications" but then abandoned them:

 

Over the first half of 2021, [Avindra Nath, clinical director at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke] and [Farinaz Safavi, an NINDS neurologist] invited Brianne Dressen [an AstraZeneca vaccine clinical trial volunteer who developed "debilitating internal electric shocks," "heart rate fluctuations, severe muscle weakness" and other horrible side effects] and others to NIH for testing and, in some cases, short-term treatment, for example with high-dose steroids or intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), which can quell or modulate immune responses. The patients spent at least several days undergoing neurological, cardiac, and other tests, including lumbar punctures and skin biopsies.

 

The NIH researchers were "trying to help people," says a health care worker whose symptoms began after the Pfizer vaccine, one of four people in the study who spoke to Science. Nath says 34 people were enrolled on the protocol, 14 of whom spent time at NIH; the other 20 shipped their blood samples and in some cases cerebrospinal fluid.

 

As time passed, however, the patients say the NIH scientists pulled back. A September visit Brianne Dressen had scheduled for additional neurologic testing was converted to a telemedicine appointment. In December, Nath asked her to stop sending patients his way. "It is best for such patients to receive care from their local physicians," he wrote to her.

The police officer caught on film assaulting a protester at Flinders Street Station has been charged.

Amidst Corruption Probe, Police Raid Maltese Ex-PM’s Home

 

Maltese police raided on Wednesday the home of former Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat, as part of an ongoing corruption probe related to a deal between a U.S. healthcare company and the Maltese state, the Times of Malta reported.

 

Muscat served as prime minister of Mediterranean island from 2013 to 2020. The paper claims that Steward Healthcare indirectly paid him tens of thousands of euros at the time his government approved the U.S. company’s takeover of hospitals concession from Maltese healthcare company Vitals Global Healthcare.

 

The deal was the focus of local investigative journalist Daphne Carauna Galizia when she was assassinated by car bomb in 2017. In 2019 OCCRP named Muscat Person of the Year in Organized Crime and Corruption, for the increase in criminality and lack of prosecution under his rule.

 

“Joseph Muscat’s actions led to my mother’s assassination,” Galizia’s son Andrew tweeted earlier this week, before the raid.

 

According to the Times of Malta, Muscat expected the investigators as he was prepared with a file to hand them when they arrived at his home in Burmarrad, northwest of Valletta.

 

After the hours-long search, he told reporters that he was only “half surprised.”

 

"I gave the police a file that had been prepared since November. In November I asked to testify in the inquiry,” he told the Times of Malta in a sit down interview in his home. “The file contains documented proof of the work I did. None of the work has anything to do with the Maltese hospitals.”

Peru beaches suffer oil spill blamed on waves from Tonga volcanic eruption

Peruvian authorities sealed off three beaches Monday after they were hit by an oil spill blamed on freak waves caused by the volcanic eruption in Tonga.

 

The Pampilla Refinery, part of the Spanish company Repsol, said there had been a "limited spill" of oil off the coast of Callao and Ventanilla districts near Lima Saturday due to the violent waves produced by the eruption on the other side of the Pacific Ocean.

 

It said the spill occurred during offloading from a tanker.

 

The National Emergency Operations Center said in a statement that the spill had been brought under control.

 

Environment Minister Ruben Ramirez said the accident had affected a three-kilometer (two-mile) stretch along three beaches.

 

"There is great damage to biodiversity, and it could even impact human health," he said.

 

"And so it has been ordered that the area is cut off for all kinds of activity," Ramirez told reporters.

 

Pampilla could face a fine of up to $34.5 million, the environment ministry said, as prosecutors opened an investigation into the company for environmental contamination.

 

Pampilla which did not indicate exactly how much oil was spilled said it was working with authorities to clean up the affected beaches.

 

Ships worked on collecting oil still floating in the water, while workers in protective gear began cleaning oil that had washed ashore.

 

"We want to tell the environment ministry to please follow up, and that those responsible receive a punishment, because this affects the fishermen, the population that they feed with the fish, and marine animals," local Ventanilla resident Brenda Ramos told AFP.

 

Elsewhere in Peru, two women drowned after being caught in waves caused by the volcanic eruption in Tonga.

 

The island nation, in the southwest Pacific, has been nearly entirely cut off from the outside world after the eruption severed an undersea communications cable.

 

The eruption was recorded around the globe and heard as far away as Alaska, triggering a tsunami that flooded Pacific coastlines from Japan to the United States.

Other readings accept the general statement that the exile does come to understand human history, his own included, in philosophical terms, but would point out that the poem has elements in common with "The Battle of Maldon", a poem about a battle in which an Anglo-Saxon troop was defeated by Viking invaders.

Bill Gates, Indian Government Targeted in Lawsuit Alleging AstraZeneca Vaccine Killed 23-Year-Old

 

A lawsuit against Bill Gates, the Indian government and others, citing extensive case law, is attracting renewed scrutiny of Gates and his long-term, controversial involvement in India’s vaccine program.

 

In what may be the first legal case of its kind globally, a petitioner in India is seeking to prosecute Bill Gates, Indian vaccine czar Adar Poonawalla, and Indian government and public health officials over the death of a 23-year-old man who died after receiving AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine.

 

Kiran Yadav late last year filed a criminal writ petition for murder, Smt. Kiran Yadav v. The State of Maharashtra & Ors. (herein referred to as Yadav v. Maharashtra), with the Bombay High Court of Judicature, on behalf of her deceased son, Shri Hitesh Kadve.

 

Her son was vaccinated on Sept. 29, 2021. According to the complaint, he died that same day due to side effects brought on by the vaccine.

 

The complaint alleges Kadve died “due to [an] act of willful commission and omission attributable to some public servants who are misusing their position to bring policies to help the pharma mafia and thereby [are] responsible [for] mass murders.”

 

The complaint further states Yadav’s son was “unwillingly” compelled to get vaccinated based on the “false narrative” that the vaccine was entirely safe, and because the State of Maharashtra prohibited the non-vaccinated from riding on railroads or entering retail spaces such as shopping malls.

 

The complaint alleges Maharashtra’s restrictions “are against the Central Government’s policy that, there cannot be any discrimination between vaccinated and unvaccinated people.”

 

Other defendants in the case include the commissioner and director-general of the Maharashtra State Police, the Indian Central Bureau of Investigation and the principal secretary of the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

 

The complaint also brings charges against Bill Gates and Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the Serum Institute of India, the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer by number of doses produced and sold.

 

The Serum Institute produces the Covishield vaccine, as well as over half of the world’s vaccines that are administered to babies.

 

In all, Yadav is requesting 1,000 crores (10 billion rupees, or $134 million USD) in compensation, including 100 crores ($13.4 million USD) in interim compensation.

 

She is seeking lie detector and narcoanalysis tests from Gates, Poonawalla and others.

 

According to the complaint, the Indian government admitted the Covishield vaccine may have harmful, and potentially fatal, side effects, but the vaccine was administered despite this knowledge.

 

The complaint in Yadav v. Maharashtra was filed by attorneys Shivam Mehra and Siddhi Dhamnaskar of Mumbai, and appears to have first been publicized in English by the Indian Bar Association, an informal group of Indian lawyers (the Bar Council of India is the country’s official bar association).

Exclusive: Gen. Flynn Tells The Western Journal in Next 24 Hours Massive Corruption Will Be Exposed

 

The family of former National Security Advisor Gen. Michael Flynn has issued a fiery statement in response to a report that the University of Rhode Island’s new president has recommended that the institution revoke an honorary degree conferred upon the former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2014, calling the move “corrupt.”

 

Given that URI President Marc Parlange has held his position only since August, he apparently believes that revoking this honorary degree and one conferred upon former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in 2003 are top priorities for the school.

 

The committee overseeing URI’s honorary degrees voted on Dec. 10 to revoke both degrees “based on their findings that General Flynn and Mayor Giuliani no longer represent the highest level of our values and standards that were evident when we first bestowed the degree,” according to a letter to the school’s board of trustees cited by The Providence Journal.

“As a civic institution, URI has the privilege and responsibility to sustain and preserve American democracy by insuring and modeling good citizenship,” Parlange’s letter claimed, according to the Journal. “Revoking these honorary degrees reinforces our values and allows us to lead with truth and integrity.”

 

“This is another example of cancel culture and ‘wokeness’ in our academic institutions,” Flynn told The Western Journal in exclusive comments. “And I know there is a concerted effort to attack me from certain elements on the Left, mainly because of my very visible stance fighting back against the socialist takeover of our country.”

 

“It will get national attention in the next 24 hours,” he predicted.

 

A statement from the Flynn family described Parlange’s recommendation to revoke the honorary degree as “a cowardly and corrupt attempt to discredit our brother, Lt. General Michael T. Flynn, USA (Ret.) and his life’s mission and work, without cause.”

 

“With this flawed and crooked action, URI endorses the destructive and tyrannical cancel culture, bowing down to the woke mob and repressive forces, while revealing itself to lack the intellectual capacity, fortitude or integrity that is required of an American public university in the 21st century,” the statement said.

The second surrender came when a reporter offered the president a chance to correct himself live, asking, “Are you effectively giving Putin permission to make a small incursion into the country?” Biden laughed, saying, “That’s how it did sound like, didn’t it?”

 

Significantly, though, Biden did not disavow that understanding, but instead said “the most important thing . . .big nations can’t bluff, number one.” So, to Biden telling Putin we would respond to any invasion, even a minor incursion, would be nothing but a bluff.

For the most part, the two groups found a way to co-exist until 1994 when the genocide began. The economic system in Rwanda was influenced by the differing backgrounds. (Notice how this didn’t hold true in the genocide in 1994, where a Tutsi woman would be killed even if her husband was a Hutu.) In the case of children, a newborn took on the social class of his/her father. A child of a Hutu man and a Tutsi woman would be a Hutu. There was no “half-and-half.” Everyone fit into one of the two distinct groups. Even after many generations of intermarriages, newborn children are always unequivocally either Hutu or Tutsi. “’There’s been so much inter-marriage over the years that you often cannot tell who’s who,’ said a presidential aid from Burundi to a Western reporter, and then added as an afterthought, ‘but everybody knows, anyway.’” (Mamdani, 54)

Microsoft’s MSFT -0.3% billionaire founder Bill Gates is financially backing the development of sun-dimming technology that would potentially reflect sunlight out of Earth’s atmosphere, triggering a global cooling effect. The Stratospheric Controlled Perturbation Experiment (SCoPEx), launched by Harvard University scientists, aims to examine this solution by spraying non-toxic calcium carbonate (CaCO3) dust into the atmosphere — a sun-reflecting aerosol that may offset the effects of global warming.

 

Widespread research into the efficacy of solar geoengineering has been stalled for years due to controversy. Opponents believe such science comes with unpredictable risks, including extreme shifts in weather patterns not dissimilar to warming trends we are already witnessing. Environmentalists similarly fear that a dramatic shift in mitigation strategy will be treated as a green light to continue emitting greenhouse gases with little to no changes in current consumption and production patterns.

 

SCoPEx will take a small step in its early research this June near the town of Kiruna, Sweden, where the Swedish Space Corporation has agreed to help launch a balloon carrying scientific equipment 12 miles (20 km) high. The launch will not release any stratospheric aerosols. Rather, it will serve as a test to maneuver the balloon and examine communications and operational systems. If successful, this could be a step towards a second experimental stage that would release a small amount of CaCO3 dust into the atmosphere.

 

David Keith, a professor of applied physics and public policy at Harvard University, recognizes the “very many real concerns” of geoengineering. It is true that no one knows what will happen until the CaCO3 is released and then studied afterward. Keith and fellow SCoPEx scientists published a paper in 2017 suggesting that the dust may actually replenish the ozone layer by reacting with ozone-destroying molecules. “Further research on this and similar methods could lead to reductions in risks and improved efficacy of solar geoengineering methods,” write the authors of the paper.

The exact amount of CaCO3 needed to cool the planet is unknown, and SCoPEx scientists similarly cannot confirm whether it is the best stratospheric aerosol for the job. Early research suggests that the substance has “near-ideal optical properties” that would allow it to absorb far less radiation that sulfate aerosols, causing significantly less stratospheric heating. This is the purpose of the experiment: once a safe, experimental amount of CaCO3 is released, the balloon will fly through it, sampling atmospheric reactions and recording resulting dynamics. Frank Keutsch, the project’s principal investigator, does not know what the results might bring. The perfect aerosol would not immediately tamper with stratospheric chemistry at all: “The only thing it would do is scatter maximum sunlight and hence cool down the planet.”

 

Proponents of geoengineering have cited the global cooling effects of volcanic eruptions that result from the introduction of sulfuric ash into the atmosphere. The 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia resulted in the “year without a summer,” while the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines lowered global average temperatures by 0.5° C. Deliberate introduction of similar particles could potentially counter decades of greenhouse gas emissions. A report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change suggested the SCoPEx procedure could lower global temperatures by a full 1.5° C for no more than $1-10 billion a year.

Again, these temperature decreases bring with them serious risks. Freezing temperatures in 1815 led to failed crops in near-famine conditions. British scientists have cited stratospheric aerosols from volcanic eruptions in Alaska and Mexico as the potential cause of drought in Africa’s Sahel region. Major disruption of the global climate could bring unintended consequences, negatively impacting highly populated regions and engineering another refugee crisis.

 

David Keith has proposed the creation of a “risk pool” to compensate smaller nations for collateral damage caused by such tests, but such a payout might be little comfort to those displaced by unlivable conditions. The United States, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia blocked a 2019 United Nations assessment of global geoengineering plans. International cooperation will be required to assess the risks, winners, and losers of any such experiment, and how best to proceed with all in mind.

 

Considering the unknown risks attached to solar geoengineering, OECD members should continue in their efforts to develop economically attractive renewable energy technology, even as it supplements such efforts with limited and careful research and experimentation.
