Nonetheless, in late February, unrest erupted after hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets in the northern port city of Sohar demanding jobs and an end to corruption. Qaboos swiftly responded by firing 12 cabinet ministers and raising government salaries while agreeing to boost unemployment benefits to 150 Oman rials (380 USD) a month. And shortly after the Sultan increased minimum wages by 40 percent, the unrest subsided almost as quickly as it had erupted.

Some analysts, however, quickly attributed the unrest in Sohar to the neighboring United Arab Emirates (UAE). By playing up economic differences between wealthier tribe members residing on the UAE side of the border, in stark contrast to their poorer Omani "cousins," analysts argued that Abu Dhabi sought to send an unmistakable message to Muscat about its "friendly" relations with Tehran.

Flexible foreign policy?

As part of an effort to restore ties with Abu Dhabi, Qaboos paid UAE ruler Sheikh Khalifa II bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan an official visit to Abu Dhabi on July 11. The visit was reciprocated when the Sheik attended the official opening of the Royal Opera House in Muscat on October 12. A short week later, U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and Sultan Qaboos conducted talks in Muscat on political reform and on Iran's controversial nuclear program. Following those talks, coincidentally or not, Oman withdrew from participating in a joint petrochemical construction complex with Iran. The official explanation given was that the two parties could not reach an agreement on the price of feedstock.

While in Muscat, Clinton presented evidence of the alleged Iranian terror plot to kill the Saudi ambassador to Washington. Clinton also thanked the Sultan for having secured the release of the U.S. hikers from Iran's notorious Evin prison. Similarly, and as a testimony to what appears to be Muscat's quiet and balanced foreign policy, Omani diplomats helped secure the release of three French tourists abducted by Yemeni tribesmen. Apparently, Omani diplomats have Yemeni tribal leaders' cell phone numbers on "speed dial," I was recently told over coffee at a chique Muscat hotel.

Perhaps capturing Oman's foreign policy approach, I was repeatedly told during my Muscat stay: "We don't see Iran as an extremist Islamist regime, but as a continuation of the Persian empire. We have dealt with them for 3000 years. And for that reason, Oman has no alternative but to have a prudent relationship with Iran." At the same time, while frequently traveling to the Middle East and to the Gulf in particular, I often encounter regional officials and analysts openly questioning whether the Obama-administration is "fully committed" to their security. In the case of Oman, the analyst was quick to point out that the Bush-administration dispatched Vice President Dick Chaney three times to Muscat. In a sharp contrast to the previous administration, President Obama has so far only dispatched former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to its strategic ally in the Persian Gulf.

Arizona Senate President Karen Fann Gives Exclusive Update On Maricopa County Router Audit – AZ Attorney General Has Pulled Numerous People For Questioning

The Arizona Senate-led audit of Maricopa County’s 2020 election discovered over 700,000 ballot discrepancies, internet connectivity on the elections system, and more elections law violations.

All evidence was presented in a public hearing on September 24, 2021, and delivered to Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich for further investigation.

The Gateway Pundit reported that Brnovich opened a criminal investigation shortly after the September hearing.

It has been nearly four months since the Maricopa County hearing revealed damning evidence that Joe Biden did not win Arizona, and Mark Brnovich has not even updated voters.

Investigations are still transpiring statewide while we await the results of the router and Splunk log analysis portion of Maricopa County’s full forensic audit.

The Gateway Pundit reported that the Arizona Senate will conduct a joint audit of these systems using a third-party special master and third-party contractors.

TGP correspondent Jordan Conradson spoke with Arizona Senate President Fann for updates on the ongoing audit and potential action from Attorney General Brnovich.

President Fann told us that the slander from mainstream media networks and Maricopa County has made it extremely difficult to find a company to perform the audit, further delaying the process.

Conradson: What’s the update on the router and Splunk log analysis?

Fann: Yeah. So Congressman Shadegg, the special master, has gone through; I can’t even tell you how many IT experts that he’s tried to get. One of the problems and the delays is that the media and Maricopa County have trashed this audit so bad that there’s a lot of people that just don’t even want to work on it for fear that they will trash them. It’s a no-win. If they find a problem, they’re going to get trashed. For finding that if they don’t find a problem, they’re going to be trashed for not finding it. So that has been a difficult deal. The second most difficult thing is trying to find three IT people that don’t have a conflict of interest. So, for example, they thought we had it all worked out a few weeks ago with that third one, and then the AG is the one that nixed that one because they did some work for American oversight. Well, we know where we’re at with American oversight on this. So, anybody that’s connected to them, there’s no way that they can be impartial. So we do think we have the last one narrowed down right now. So we should be ready to rock and roll.

Conradson: Rumors are going around that the choosing of John Shadegg for the special master agreement would mean that it’s never going to happen. Can you assure us that it’s going to happen?

Senior administration officials had previously confirmed to The Associated Press that Sullivan and other officials held at least five secret meetings with Iran this year, preparing the way for an interim nuclear agreement signed in November by Iran, the United States and five other world powers.

THAAD Missile System Records First Successful Combat Operation Amid Houthi Strikes Targeting UAE

Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) is a ground-based missile defense system developed by Lockheed Martin in response to Iraqi Scud missile attacks during the 1991 Gulf War. The anti-ballistic missile system is designed to take down short-to-intermediate-range ballistic missiles via interceptors using kinetic energy, rather than warheads.

After nearly 15 years of service, THAAD was used in its first known military operation, when a defense system owned by the United Arab Emirates took out a mid-range ballistic missile targeting an Emirati oil facility near Al-Dhafra Air Base, two sources who were granted anonymity told Defense News.

The air base is currently home to American, French, and Emirati forces.

The UAE's engagement came amid a series of hostile attacks by cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones, according to Wednesday comments from Yousef al-Otaiba, UAE ambassador to the US.

"Several attacks, a combination of cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones, targeted civilian sites in the UAE," al-Otaiba said during a virtual session sponsored by the Jewish Institute for National Security of America.

At least three individuals were killed during the attacks, as not all missiles were intercepted by UAE defenses.

The attacks resulted in the UAE's first acknowledgment of being struck by Houthi forces.

The UAE completed its first live-fire exercises with Patriot missiles in 2014, nearly three years after the initial deal was inked. The UAE notably graduated its first THAAD unit classes at the Texas-based US Army post of Fort Bliss in 2015 and 2016.

The US Central Command confirmed in a Friday statement that "a potential inbound threat" forced American service members into their bunkers at Al-Dharfa Air Base. Troops were ordered to "heightened alert posture" for approximately 30 minutes.
