Opinion: More dirty secrets on glyphosate may become public

By Dave Dickey, Commentator February 4, 2022

LANCELOT: Nay, indeed, if you had your eyes, you might fail of

the knowing me: it is a wise father that knows his

own child. Well, old man, I will tell you news of

your son: give me your blessing: truth will come

to light; murder cannot be hid long; a man's son

may, but at the length truth will out.

Shakespeare: The Merchant of Venice, Act II, Scene 2

Truth will out. Eventually, given enough time, the good, the bad, and the ugly will be revealed.

Such is the case with Monsanto's dubious herbicide glyphosate. The long-winding story on how Monsanto and its governmental enablers at the Environmental Protection Agency first registered the weedkiller Roundup under at best dubious circumstances is sickening.

In March 2015 U.S District Judge for the Northern District of California allowed public release of internal Monsanto documents showing how Monsanto influenced EPA to reclassify glyphosate from a Class C carcinogen to a Class E category which paved the way for glyphosate Roundup production.

It was nothing short of a cover-up that put greed ahead of public safety.

And now ironically we learn the cover-up may have included Monsanto's own investors. Bayer AG purchased Monsanto and dumped the company name back in 2018. As if….that would be helpful. Bayer has lost a string of jury trials where glyphosate was believed to be responsible for cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Now Bayer investors are saying the German agri-giant played fast and loose with the facts, misleading them on 1) the safety of glyphosate and Roundup; 2) Bayer's efforts at due diligence; and 3) the legal risks in the acquisition of Monsanto. Their lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California makes for some interesting reading:

“Defendants specifically downplayed the liability risks related to Monsanto’s Roundup product, emphasizing that Bayer conducted a “thorough analysis” during the due diligence process and “undertook appropriate due diligence of litigation and regulatory issues throughout the process” which led Bayer to finalize the Acquisition. These and similar statements made by Defendants during the Class Period were false and misleading. In truth, Defendants knew or recklessly disregarded that the Acquisition would not result in the benefits for Bayer that Defendants had represented, due to Monsanto’s significant exposure to liability risk related to Roundup.”

Naturally Bayer tried to get the case – Sheet Metal Workers National Pension Fund v. Bayer Aktiengesellschaft – thrown out of court. But in October the court ruled against Bayer, finding, among other things, that:

“As for the differences between glyphosate and Roundup, Plaintiffs have pled that Monsanto was aware the Roundup formulation was possibly more dangerous than glyphosate, ¶ 141, and that (Bayer CEO Werner) Baumann stated during a conference call, “there is no difference” between glyphosate and the Roundup formulation, ¶ 250. By showing that an executive’s statement was in contradiction to Monsanto’s own assessment of the science, Plaintiffs have adequately pled a material misstatement concerning the safety risks of Roundup as compared to glyphosate.”

So now we're going to get yet another layer of court discovery on glyphosate. Given all we already know Roundup and glyphosate should have not been unleashed on the world. But how companies like Monsanto are willing to go to almost any length – including duping its own investors – is a new low.

Truth will out.

(READ) US scientists called to testify to Congress about early claims on Covid lab leak

DATED: FEBRUARY 5, 2022 BY SHARYL ATTKISSON

https://sharylattkisson.com/2022/02/read-us-scientists-called-to-testify-to-congress-about-early-claims-on-covid-lab-leak/

The lead Republicans on the House Oversight, Judiciary and Coronavirus Crisis Committees in the House of representatives are calling on seven scientists to answer questions under oath.

The scientists reportedly expressed that they initially believed Covid-19 may have leaked from China's Wuhan lab.

According to documents and Reps. James Comer (R-Kentucky), Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana), and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), on Feb. 1, 2020, several scientists took part in a teleconference with then-head of the National Institutes of Health Dr. Francis Collins and White House adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci, also of NIH. Before, during, and after the call, some scientists reportedly expressed grave concerns that Covid-19 may have leaked out of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and that Covid-19 may have been partially engineered.

Yet 48 hours later, several of the scientists were involved in the drafting and publishing an article in Nature Medicine entitled, “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2," which dismissed the lab leak theory in favor of the unproven and less-likely theory that the virus naturally evolved in animals and crossed to people.

Additionally, recently-released communications suggest that Collins hoped the correspondence in Nature Medicine would silence debate on the origins of the virus.

In letters to seven scientists, the Republican lawmakers call for all documents and communications related to the Feb. 1, 2020 conference call, the drafting and publication of “The Proximal Origins of SARS-CoV-2,” and the origins of Covid-19. They also call on the scientists to appear for a transcribed interview under oath.

Alarmingly, it appears that the decision to suppress the lab-leak hypothesis was rooted in political calculations rather than scientific principles. NIH documents show that scientists on the February 1, 2020, teleconference pushed the natural evolution theory because they believed the lab-leak hypothesis could cause China too much scrutiny.

Transparency is a bedrock of scientific credibility. Continuing to shield the truth equates to hiding information that may inform future pandemic responses, advise the United States’ current national security posture, and restore confidence in our public health experts.

Top British scientist Sir Jeremy Farrar faces US Congress probe over concerns he was at the centre of a Covid cover-up after his U-turn on Wuhan lab leak theory

By GEORGIA EDKINS FOR THE MAIL ON SUNDAY

PUBLISHED: 17:58 EST, 5 February 2022 | UPDATED: 09:49 EST, 6 February 2022

One of Britain’s top scientists is to be interviewed under oath by the US Congress over concerns that he was at the centre of a cover-up about the origins of Covid, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Sir Jeremy Farrar was among a group of scientists who initially claimed the coronavirus could have been man-made in a lab in the Chinese city Wuhan, where the pandemic began.

But after discussions with US officials and other leading scientists in February 2020, he changed his position, dismissing suggestions that the virus was made in a lab as a conspiracy theory.

He will now be questioned over his role in ‘apparent conflicts of interest’ and ‘suppression of scientific discourse’.

Amid an investigation into the US government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic carried out for the Committee on Oversight and Reform, Sir Jeremy will be subject to an on-the-record interview about his knowledge about the origins of the disease.

The committee has also demanded he provide all documents related to his discussions with senior figures on the subject.

An order sent to Sir Jeremy reads: ‘Documents in the custody of the National Institutes of Health reveal how a group of scientists, including you, initially believed Covid-19 to be man-made before reversing course and claiming otherwise following discussions with senior government health officials.’

It adds: ‘This sequence of events suggests a possible co-ordinated effort to conceal evidence pointing to a lab leak in Wuhan.’

Sir Jeremy is an expert in tropical diseases, as well as head of the Wellcome Trust, a charity that puts millions of pounds into medical research every year. He is also a former member of Britain’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage).

The US committee’s concerns about him revolve around a teleconference he led on February 1, 2020, as the emerging pandemic spread.

The call involved the two most influential scientists in America – presidential adviser Dr Anthony Fauci and Dr Francis Collins, as well as 11 experts including Sir Patrick Vallance, the UK Government’s chief scientific adviser. It is alleged that it was after this call that the scientists began dismissing the lab-leak hypothesis as ‘implausible’.

Sir Jeremy then signed an article in respected medical journal The Lancet that condemned ‘conspiracy theories’ alleging Covid was not natural while praising Beijing’s ‘open and transparent’ sharing of data.

A new letter seen by this newspaper shows he must now share all drafts of his papers claiming the Covid leak theory was implausible with the US Congress, and all communications regarding the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which some have pointed to as the source of a Covid leak, and those between him and Dr Collins and Dr Fauci.

Sir Jeremy told the MoS: ‘The scientific evidence continues to point to SARS-CoV-2 [the Covid-19 virus] crossing from animals to humans as the most likely scenario.’

"BREAKING EXCLUSIVE: Lawrence Sellin Identifies Chinese Science Mole at the Highest Level of the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

By Joe Hoft

U.S. medical research laboratories are little more than Chinese colonies, extensions of China’s fused military-civilian research programs and fully funded by the U.S. taxpayer.

Chinese scientists working in the United States, many of whom have become U.S. citizens, have remained loyal to the Chinese Communist Party and are actively collaborating with their counterparts in China, including the People’s Liberation Army.

Between 2009 and 2020,Dr. Xiaoyuan (Shawn) Chen worked at the National Institutes of Health NIH, eventually rising to become Chief of the Laboratory of Molecular Imaging andNanomedicine(LOMIN) at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging andBioengineering(NIBIB).

During the entire period Xiaoyuan Chen was in the United States, while he was being paid a high salary by the U.S. government and received in excess of $38 million in NIH research funding, Xiaoyuan Chen maintained a secretive parallel career working with China’s People’s Liberation Army and establishing a mirror-image of his NIH research activities in Xiamen University in China.

In violation of U.S. government protocol if not U.S. law, Xiaoyuan Chen failed to report his over 10-year extensive research collaboration with China’s People’s Liberation Army.

Below are a few examples of the many scientific research articles published by Xiaoyuan Chen together with China’s People’s Liberation Army while he was employed by NIH:

The 2011 article “PET of Insulinoma using 18F-FBEM-EM3106B, a New GLP-1 Analog” co-authored by Xiaoyuan Chen and the People’s Liberation Army’s Fourth Military Medical University in Xi’an, China, research supported by the Intramural Research Program (IRP) of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), National Institutes of Health.

The 2013 article “Noninvasive Visualization of MicroRNA-16 in the Chemoresistance of Gastric Cancer Using a Dual Reporter Gene Imaging System” co-authored by Xiaoyuan Chen and the People’s Liberation Army’s Fourth Military Medical University in Xi’an, China, does not appear in the NIH publication record for Xiaoyuan Chen.

The 2016 article “Multimodal-Imaging-Guided Cancer Phototherapy by Versatile Biomimetic Theranostics with UV and γ-Irradiation Protection” co-authored by Xiaoyuan Chen and the People’s Liberation Army’s Fourth Military Medical University in Xi’an, China, does not appear in the NIH publication record for Xiaoyuan Chen even though the article states that the research was supported by the Intramural Research Program (IRP) of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), National Institutes of Health.

The 2018 article “Hierarchical Tumor Microenvironment-Responsive Nanomedicine for Programmed Delivery of Chemotherapeutics” co-authored by Xiaoyuan Chen and the People’s Liberation Army’s Fourth Military Medical University in Xi’an, China, does not appear in the NIH publication record for Xiaoyuan Chen even though the article states that the research was supported by the Intramural Research Program (IRP) of the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), National Institutes of Health.

The 2020 article “Ultrasmall copper-based nanoparticles for reactive oxygen species scavenging and alleviation of inflammation related diseases” co-authored by Xiaoyuan Chen and the People’s Liberation Army’s Third Military Medical University in Chongqing, China, does not appear in the NIH publication record for Xiaoyuan Chen even though the article states that the research was supported by the Intramural Research Program, National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, National Institutes of Health.

In addition to the secretive career collaborating with China’s People’s Liberation Army while employed by the National Institutes of Health, Xiaoyuan Chen, in 2012, created a center at China’s Xiamen University, which mirrored the work being conducted in his U.S. taxpayer-funded NIH laboratory.

While Xiaoyuan Chen was fully employed by the National Institutes of Health, the 2018 article “Novel Intrapolymerization Doped Manganese-Eumelanin Coordination Nanocomposites with Ultrahigh Relaxivity and Their Application in Tumor Theranostics” was co-authored by Xiaoyuan Chen and scientists from the People’s Liberation Army’s Third Military Medical University in Chongqing and from Xiamen University.

In addition to collaborating with scientists from the People’s Liberation Army, Xiaoyuan Chen also trained numerous Chinese scientists in his laboratory, including those from China’s military, like Hao Hu from the Fourth Military Medical University.

Xiaoyuan Chen is far from an isolated case.

U.S. medical research programs are massively infiltrated by Chinese Communist Party and People’s Liberation Army scientists, who immigrated to the United States over the last 30 years and now are in positions of responsibility in every major American university and U.S. government laboratories, including those of the Department of Defense.

Lawrence Sellin, Ph.D. is retired U.S. Army Reserve colonel and a veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq. He had a civilian career in international business and medical research. His email address is lawrence.sellin@gmail.com. Ji Yuan is a former Certified Public Accountant licensed by the People’s Republic of China, who audited financial statements of Chinese Communist enterprises for multiple years.

"The COVID-19 pandemic is a global health crisis that requires the application of interdisciplinary research to address numerous knowledge gaps including molecular strategies to prevent viral reproduction in affected individuals. In response to the Frontiers Research Topic, “Coronavirus disease (COVID-19): Pathophysiology, Epidemiology, Clinical Management, and Public Health Response,” this Hypothesis article proposes a novel therapeutic strategy to repurpose metabotropic glutamate 5 receptor (mGluR5) inhibitors to interfere with viral hijacking of the host protein synthesis machinery. We review pertinent background on SARS-CoV-2, fragile X syndrome (FXS) and metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5) and provide a mechanistic-based hypothesis and preliminary data to support testing mGluR5 inhibitors in COVID-19 research."

Fragile X Syndrome, FMRP and ZIKV Subgenomic RNA

Fragile X syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder clinically characterized by low IQ, autistic-like behaviors and seizures (Hagerman and Hagerman, 2002). FXS results from a mutation in the FMR1 gene on the X chromosome, which is associated with transcriptional silencing of the FMR1 promoter and loss of expression of FMRP (Verkerk et al., 1991). FMRP is a mRNA binding protein that associates with polysomes or non-translating ribonucleoprotein (RNP) particles and is involved in the transport, localization and translational repression of hundreds of mRNAs (Feng et al., 1997a, b; Weiler et al., 1997; Brown et al., 2001; Darnell et al., 2001; Laggerbauer et al., 2001; Li et al., 2001; Mazroui et al., 2002; Miyashiro et al., 2003; Bagni and Greenough, 2005).

In 2018, Soto-Acosta and colleagues published an article, “Fragile X mental retardation protein is a Zika virus restriction factor that is antagonized by subgenomic flaviviral RNA” (Soto-Acosta et al., 2018).
