Leading Australian immunologist accidentally asks Twitter for bottle shop opening hours

Professor Doherty, who won the Nobel Prize in 1996 for his work in immunology and infectious diseases, tweeted the words "Dan Murphy opening hours", apparently mistaking Twitter for Google.

Professor Doherty is the patron of the Doherty Institute, where scientists have been researching a cure for the coronavirus since the pandemic began.

Earlier this month, the Doherty Institute announced its scientists, in collaboration with the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute, had discovered an anti-parasitic drug already widely available around the world could kill COVID-19 in just 48 hours.

The team said it would need to conduct further testing and clinical trials before the drug could be unleashed against the virus.

Doherty Institute awarded AU$3.2 million by the Jack Ma Foundationto accelerate a vaccine for COVID-19

The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (Doherty Institute) ā€“ a joint venture between the University of Melbourne and The Royal Melbourne Hospital ā€“ has been awarded AU$3.2 million (US$2.15 million) by the Jack Ma Foundation to expedite the creation of a vaccine against COVID-19.

The funding for the Doherty Institute COVID-19 Vaccine Development Initiative aims to find an effective vaccine against the virus that has spread rapidly around the world infecting 87 137 people and killing 2977 (as at 10am 1 March) since the outbreak was first detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of last year.

Scientists from the Royal Melbourne Hospitalā€™s Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory at the Doherty Institute were the first to grow COVID-19 in the laboratory outside of China, and the first to share it with public health laboratories nationally and globally at the end of January.

Funding for the Initiative will be directed towards three areas, the first of which is an active vaccine platform, the process of stimulating the body to produce antibodies through administration of a vaccine. The second is a passive vaccine platform, which is the direct transfer of antibodies to a non-immune individual, providing temporary protection; and the third, determining vaccine efficacy, safety and readiness for phase one human trials.

Director of the Doherty Institute, University of Melbourne Professor Sharon Lewin, thanked the Jack Ma Foundation for its generous support and said the Institute was mobilised to find a vaccine against COVID-19.

ā€œWhile the path to creating a vaccine is complex, we have the expertise and infrastructure here at the Doherty Institute to take on this task, and now, thanks to the Jack Ma Foundation, the funding to accelerate this significant project,ā€ she said.

ā€œTogether with active surveillance, quarantine and other public health interventions, a vaccine is the most effective means of preventing new infections at scale in a population. If transmission continues as predicted, safe and effective vaccines will be needed to help sustain long-term approaches to disease control and to prevent severe mortality and morbidity over time.ā€

Established by Alibaba Group founder Jack Ma in 2014, the Jack Ma Foundation has been primarily focused on supporting projects and initiatives to support education, entrepreneurship, womenā€™s leadership and the environment.

The contribution to the Doherty Institute is part of an overall US$14.4 million (AU$21.9 million) investment the Jack Ma Foundation is making towards research efforts in China and internationally into combatting COVID-19. Last month the Foundation awarded US$2.15 million (AU$3.2 million) to Columbia University to identify potential antiviral drugs and antibodies for use against the virus.

Jack Ma called on all institutes and scientists globally to collaborate with confidence to defeat the current outbreak.

ā€œThe Jack Ma Foundation and I will exhaust our abilities to provide more help to the development and growth of medical science,ā€ said Jack Ma, founder of the Jack Ma Foundation.

Professor Christine Kilpatrick, CEO of the Royal Melbourne Hospital, said the organisation was incredibly proud of the work of their leading scientists at the Doherty Institute who have been instrumental in progressing treatment and care for COVID-19.

ā€œThis important funding will help continue the efforts of our scientists in finding a vaccine and treatment for COVID-19 as part of the global effort to seek solutions to this worldwide health issue,ā€ said Professor Kilpatrick.

Professor Shitij Kapur, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne, commended the Jack Ma Foundation for its leadership by investing in the Doherty Institute.

ā€œThe Doherty Institute is a unique partnership between Australiaā€™s leading hospital and university and the broader Melbourne Biomedical Precinct ā€“ and that is what allowed it to be one of the first to isolate the COVID-19 virus. We now need to develop the science of vaccines and treatments,ā€ said Professor Kapur.

PROPOSED ADVANCED RESEARCH PROJECTS AGENCY FOR HEALTH (ARPA-H)

Recent advances in biomedical and health sciencesā€”from immunotherapy to treat cancer, to the highly effective COVID-19 vaccinesā€”demonstrate the strengths and successes of the U.S. biomedical enterprise. Such advances present an opportunity to revolutionize how to prevent, treat, and even cure a range of diseases including cancer, infectious diseases, Alzheimerā€™s disease, and many others that together affect a significant number of Americans.

To improve the U.S. governmentā€™s capabilities to speed research that can improve the health of all Americans, President Biden is proposing the establishment of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). Included in the Presidentā€™s FY2022 budget as a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with a requested funding level of $6.5B available for three years, ARPA-H will be tasked with building high-risk, high-reward capabilities (or platforms) to drive biomedical breakthroughsā€”ranging from molecular to societalā€”that would provide transformative solutions for all patients.

The lessons of Lander

H. HOLDEN THORP

SCIENCE ā€¢ 8 Feb 2022

Eric Landerā€™s resignation as President Bidenā€™s science adviser and director of the Office of Science Technology and Policy (OSTP), amid allegations that he bullied and demeaned subordinates, is the latest disappointment from an administration that has been struggling to guide the nation with sound science and science leadership. Landerā€™s departure now leaves empty the first ever OSTP directorship to be added to the Presidentā€™s Cabinet. This vacancy joins the absence of permanent directors for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), not to mention a secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) so disengaged as to appear absent. Letā€™s hope the president appoints the best peopleā€”in brilliance and characterā€”into these positions, stops undermining his own workplace policy of respect and dignity, and gets the country back on course to follow the science, as he pledged.

Bidenā€™s victory celebration, with signs boasting ā€œThe People Have Chosen Science,ā€ brought hope to the scientific community. After 4 years of attacks on science by former President Trump and his accomplices, Bidenā€™s early days were encouraging. Outstanding appointments were made to Bidenā€™s science team, including Alondra Nelson, Jane Lubchenco, Frances Arnold, and Maria Zuber. The new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Rochelle Walensky, was an accomplished physician-scientist who argued for strict adherence to pandemic mitigation measures. But disappointment has built steadily over the past year, beginning with various nominees. There was a long delay in Landerā€™s confirmation for the very reasons that have now brought on the current scandal. There was a protracted search for an FDA commissioner, a vital position during the pandemic. Even after Robert Califf was finally announced as the nominee, he has yet to be confirmed by the full Senate. And months after Francis Collins announced his retirement as NIH director, there is no sign of his replacement.

When it comes to the pandemic, the administration has not been able to get out of its own way. Rapid reversals of messaging on masks and boosters from the CDC have been commonplace, with the agencyā€™s director contradicting statements she made before she joined the administration. In two consecutive weeks, Anthony Fauci, the chief medical adviser made predictions that didnā€™t happen: first on an airline vaccine mandate that didnā€™t materialize and then on a test requirement for ending quarantine. Itā€™s been natural to wonder whoā€™s in charge. In his Science editorial, Eric Topol laid blame on ineffective leadership by Xavier Becerra, the HHS Secretary, who should be coordinating the nationā€™s pandemic response.

And now, the latest mess. What is troubling about Landerā€™s resignation is that it came under pressure and two months after the White House completed the investigation. Firing Lander was clearly not the White Houseā€™s original intent, contradicting the presidentā€™s promise to enforce a zero tolerance policy when it comes to treating colleagues disrespectfully. Landerā€™s bullying of OSTP co-workers was initially reported by Politico, which obtained a recording of an OSTP staff briefing by White House administrators who conducted the investigation. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed the findings in a press briefing, where she faced understandably tough questions about the administrationā€™s approach to appropriate conduct. All Lander was required to do was apologize and hold ā€œbrown bagsā€ with staff. Yet this was Bidenā€™s inaugural pledge: ā€œIf you are ever working with me and I hear you treat another colleague with disrespect, talk down to someone, I promise you I will fire you on the spot. On the spot. No ifs, ands or buts.ā€

Maybe the White House decided to set aside that promise for Lander because he was about to take charge of Bidenā€™s recently announced Cancer Moonshot initiative and testify before Congress about the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), which seeks to redesign the nationā€™s biomedical ecosystem. But Lander should be a lesson for the White House. Legitimate questions about his personal conduct were raised before and during his confirmation hearing. Enthusiasm for his brilliance and political acumen was tempered by accusations that he did not appropriately acknowledge the contributions of Nobel Prize winners Jennifer Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier to gene-editing technology. He apologized and then was appointed.

Biden has much work to do to maintain the confidence of the scientific community. It must begin with assembling strong science leadership, and that now includes replacing Lander immediately at the cabinet level. No ifs, ands, or buts.

TL;DR

1.Moderna is an $80billion company with a "God complex" (in the literal sense) that, prior to its COVID mRNA vaccine, had never brought a product to market.

  1. Moderna has close ties to US federal agencies through grants and IP transfers, including the NIH/NIAID run by Tony Fauci, the US principle on COVID, and Ralph Baric, successful expert in gain-of-function research on coronaviruses.

  2. In Feb 2020 "scientific consensus" very quickly closed ranks behind Fauci in stating that the SARS-CoV-2 virus was natural in origin despite many independent experts continuing to challenge the assertion.

  3. Over a year later, significant volumes of new information reveal support for the theory that the virus was man-made and lab-leaked.

  4. A key component in the gain-of-function theory is that the only differences between the spike proteins of SARS-CoV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 is four distinct, non-trivial inserts which are not seen in any other coronavirus.

  5. As if this was not already a very low probability natural or random occurrence, all of the insertions WERE found in the HIV virus.

  6. On top of that, all 4 insertions are from binding sites, allowing the virus to stick better to human cells (2 without modification and the other 2 with modifications that specifically gain that function).

  7. In particular one of the insertions contains a "furin cleavage sequence" that is important for the gain of function but whose full genomic sequence does not naturally occur elsewhere.

  8. In fact, the only place it occurs prior to SARS-Cov-2 is in a patent owned byā€¦

Moderna.

  1. In order for that sequence to have arisen in that virus, the virus which was manufactured with its HIV inserts, had to have had been infected into patented cell lines supplied by Moderna that had that unique sequence not seen in any other virus.

  2. Many "fact checkers" have tried to debunk and ridicule the above hypotheses but according to the author have consummately failed.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation And Wellcome Pledge US$300 Million To CEPI For COVID-19 Response

By Soko Directory Team / Published January 20, 2022 | 3:32 pm

CEPI is a global partnership launched five years ago this week by the governments of Norway and India, the Gates Foundation, Wellcome, and the World Economic Forum.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Wellcome each pledged US$150 million for a total of US$300 million to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).

CEPI is a global partnership launched five years ago by the governments of Norway and India, the Gates Foundation, Wellcome, and the World Economic Forum.

The pledges come ahead of a global replenishment conference in March to support CEPIā€™s visionary five-year plan to better prepare for, prevent, and equitably respond to future epidemics and pandemics.

ā€œAs the world responds to the challenge of a rapidly evolving virus, the need to deliver new, lifesaving tools has never been more urgent,ā€ said Bill Gates, co-chair of the Gates Foundation.

ā€œOur work over the past 20 years has taught us that early investment in research and development can save lives and prevent worst-case scenarios. Five years ago, following the Ebola and Zika epidemics, our foundation helped launch CEPI,ā€ he added.

Since its inception, CEPI has played a central scientific role in curbing epidemics around the world, overseeing a number of scientific breakthroughs, and putting pandemic preparedness at the center of the global health R&D agenda.

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, CEPI responded immediately, building one of the worldā€™s largest and most diverse portfolios of COVID-19 vaccine candidatesā€”14 in all, including six of which continue to receive funding, and three of which have been granted emergency use listing by the World Health Organization (WHO).

CEPI made early investments in the development of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, which is now saving lives around the world. Last month, Novavaxā€™s protein-based COVID-19 vaccineā€”funded largely by CEPIā€”received the WHO emergency use listing and is poised to help efforts to control the pandemic globally.

More than 1 billion doses of the Novavax vaccine are now available to COVAX, the global initiative co-led by CEPI that aims to deliver equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. CEPI also continues to work on next-generation COVID-19 vaccines, including ā€œvariant-proofā€ COVID-19 vaccines and shots that could protect against all coronaviruses, potentially removing the threat of future coronavirus pandemics.

ā€œThe overriding lesson from this pandemic is the need for effective organizations and systems to be in place and ready before a crisis, as well as acting rapidly based on well-established science when such crises inevitably occur,ā€ said Dr. Jeremy Farrar, director of Wellcome.

ā€œOur new commitment of $150 million recognizes the enormous potential CEPI has to protect lives against emerging infectious diseases,ā€ Dr. Farrar continued. ā€œThe effects of COVID-19 have been sobering. We urge leaders to provide their support and ensure that CEPI reaches its funding target. It is in the worldā€™s collective interest to avoid repeating mistakes and to help future generations prevent epidemics.ā€

Beyond COVID-19, CEPI has filled a vital gap in supporting vaccine equity alongside R&D. CEPI is currently supporting the research and development of accessible vaccines against other infectious diseases, including the first-ever vaccines to reach clinical trials against the deadly Nipah and Lassa viruses.

The organization has also played a critical role in efforts to end Ebola, including supporting the development of a second Ebola vaccine by Janssen. In addition to advancing the science underlying vaccine development and new vaccine platforms, CEPI is focused on dramatically reducing the time it takes to develop lifesaving vaccines against any new viral threat (referred to as ā€œDisease Xā€)ā€”to within 100 days of a pathogen being sequenced. This represents a combination of scale and speed that could save millions of lives and trillions of dollars.

ā€œThe COVID-19 pandemic has revealed how inequitable access to vaccines can put the entire planet at risk and disrupt decades of global health progress,ā€ said Awa Marie Coll Seck, minister of state to the president of the Republic of Senegal. ā€œInnovative global partnerships like CEPI play a critical role in advancing the R&D needed to prevent future pandemics. Importantly, those investments in vaccine technology, particularly in Africa, can also help accelerate progress against other diseasesā€”like HIV, TB, and malariaā€”that still affect the worldā€™s most vulnerable populations.ā€

The pandemic has rebounded in waves around the world, highlighting the important role of international organizations like CEPI that put equitable access at the core of their mission. Recent data from Northeastern University show that had the availability of vaccines in lower-income countries like Kenya been akin to that in high-income countries like the UK or the U.S., 70 percent of COVID-19 deaths to date would have been averted.

ā€œThe world must do better at protecting everyone, everywhere against the greatest health threatsā€”from COVID-19 and beyond,ā€ said Melinda French Gates, co-chair of the Gates Foundation. ā€œCEPIā€™s investments in groundbreaking R&D, commitments to equitable access, and cooperation across the public and private sectors are vital in this effort. We call on global leaders to help CEPI reach its funding target of $3.5 billion.ā€

The United Kingdom will host CEPIā€™s replenishment conference on March 8, 2022, in London. The fundraising event will convene governments, philanthropists, and other donors to support CEPIā€™s five-year plan to tackle the risk of pandemics and epidemics, potentially preventing millions of deaths and trillions of dollars in economic damage.

The London TimesSmallpox Vaccine Triggered AIDS Virus.

The London Times - May 11, 1987

http://cidpusa.org/london_times__smallpox_vaccine.htm

"Article from Dr Alan Cantwell, M.D. reproduced here

On May 11, 1987, The London Times, one of the world's most respected newspapers, published an explosive article entitled, "Smallpox vaccine triggered AIDS virus."

The story suggested the smallpox eradication vaccine program sponsored by the WHO (World Health Organization) was responsible for unleashing AIDS in Africa. Almost 100 million Africans living in central Africa were inoculated by the WHO (World Health Organization). The vaccine was held responsible for awakening a "dormant" AIDS virus infection on the continent.

An advisor to the WHO admitted, "Now I believe the smallpox vaccine theory is the explanation for the explosion of AIDS."

Robert Gallo, M,D., the co-discoverer of HIV, told The Times, "The link between the WHO program and the epidemic is an interesting and important hypothesis.

I cannot say that it actually happened, but I have been saying for some years that the use of live vaccines such as that used for smallpox can activate a dormant infection such as HIV." Despite the tremendous importance of this story, the U.S. media was totally silent on the report, and Gallo never spoke of it again.

In September 1987, at a conference sponsored by the National Health Federation in Monrovia, California, William Campbell Douglass, M.D., bluntly blamed the WHO for murdering Africa with the AIDS virus.

In a widely circulated reprint of his talk entitled "W.H.O. Murdered Africa" , he accused the organization of encouraging virologists and molecular biologists to work with deadly animal viruses in an attempt to make an immunosuppressive hybrid virus that would be deadly to humans.

From the Bulletin of the World Health Organization (Volume 47, p.259, 1972), he quoted a passage that stated: "An attempt should be made to see if viruses can in fact exert selective effects on immune function. The possibility should be looked into that the immune response to the virus itself may be impaired if the infecting virus damages, more or less selectively, the cell responding to the virus."

According to Douglass, "That's AIDS. What the WHO is saying in plain English is Let's cook up a virus that selectively destroys the T-cell system of man, an acquired immune deficiency.'" The entire article can be read on google.com ("WHO Murdered Africa").

In his 1989 book, 'AIDS: The End of Civilization,' Douglass claims the WHO laced the African vaccines. He blames "the virologists of the world, the sorcerers who brought us this ghastly plague, and have formed a united front in denying that the virus was laboratory-made from known, lethal animal viruses. The scientific party line is that a monkey in Africa with AIDS bit a native on the butt. The native then went to town and gave it to a prostitute who gave it to a local banker who gave it to his wife and three girl friends, and wham - 75 million people became infected with AIDS in Africa. An entirely preposterous story."
