Authorities are monitoring online reports of planned truck protests over COVID-19 rules that might include some kind of action on Super Bowl Sunday as well as other actions in California, law enforcement sources confirmed to The Times.

Several law enforcement sources said a bulletin from the Department of Homeland Security warned hundreds of police agencies that a truck convoy might start in California and travel to Washington, D.C., causing traffic disruptions and potentially targeting large cities.

Authorities said they are aware of efforts to begin a truck convoy either in the Coachella Valley or Sacramento that would eventually gather steam across the country and head to Washington. One of the posts promoting the Coachella gathering suggests it would start next month.

Multiple federal sources, however, said fliers posted on the web calling for a protest or truck protest at Sunday's Super Bowl in Inglewood are vague and it's unclear whether there is any real support. Those sources, who were not authorized to discuss the information gathered by federal agencies, say the intelligence so far shows there are no physical efforts to carry out that call.

WELLINGTON – Police on Thursday began arresting dozens of protesters who were camped out on the grounds of New Zealand's Parliament on the third day of a convoy protest against coronavirus mandates.

The arrests came after Parliament Speaker Trevor Mallard took the rare step of closing the grounds.

Police called in more than 100 extra officers from other parts of the country. Still, police seemed prepared to wait it out as officers formed a line and ordered people to leave but only very slowly advanced on them.

By noon, police had arrested more than 50 people and had charged many of them with trespassing or obstruction. Police wore protective vests but didn't don riot gear or carry guns.

Police said they had told everybody on the grounds they were trespassing.

“Police have appealed repeatedly to protestors to leave the grounds and have begun evicting people from the precinct,” said Superintendent Corrie Parnell, the Wellington district commander. “While police acknowledge people’s right to protest, this needs to be conducted in a way that does not unfairly impact on the wider public.”

(The Hill) – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is warning law enforcement partners of planned demonstrations among truck drivers to protest vaccine mandates that could disrupt both the Super Bowl and President Biden’s first State of the Union address.

The memo indicates that U.S.-based truck drivers may stage protests in support of a similar movement in Canada, which has mandated COVID-19 vaccines for truck drivers that cross the border.

Chief of the Ottawa Police Service Peter Sloly blasted the protests as a nationwide insurrection. “This is madness,” he said.

Freedom Convoy 2022 is an ongoing protest in Canada against the requirement that truckers produce digital proof of vaccination before re-entering the country. It’s thought at least 85 per cent of Canada’s 120,000 are vaccinated. The mandate impacts at least 26,000 drivers.

The protest has since morphed into broader protests against Covid-19 health restrictions and Trudeau’s government and has reportedly been hijacked by people with no connection the trucking industry.

NATICK — Sue Ianni, a Natick Town Meeting member charged in the U.S. Capitol riot, appears to be helping plan a local leg of a nationwide truck convoy protesting COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

Ianni allegedly breached the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, as part of a mob of former President Donald Trump’s supporters seeking to disrupt the certification of President Joe Biden’s electoral win. She pleaded not guilty and remains out on personal recognizance bail.
