After massive pressure: Messenger Service Telegram blocks 64 channels
After massive pressure from the German government, the messenger service Telegram has blocked a total of 64 channels, the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (Saturday edition) reported, citing security circles. The closure was due to pressure from the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), the report added.
The BKA had sent corresponding deletion requests to Telegram. A total of 64 have been considered so far, it said. On Thursday, there had been a second working-level conversation between the government and Telegram.
The government and the company wanted to "remain in close exchange," it said after the talks. The company's founder, Pavel Durov, had already assured this in the first meeting, in which he himself had participated.
