Hot water for Hunter Biden is reaching a boiling point

The walls are closing in on Hunter Biden.

The US attorney in Delaware investigating his business affairs has been busy subpoenaing his bank records and calling in his ex-girlfriends to testify in front of a grand jury about his wild spending sprees.

Devon Archer, his former business partner, best friend and fellow Yale alum, faces sentencing Monday, four years after being convicted over a $60 million scheme to defraud one of the poorest Indian tribes in America.

Prosecutors from the Southern District of New York have recommended to US District Judge Ronnie Abrams that Archer serve 30 months in prison, the same as co-defendant Bevan Cooney.

But yesterday, Archer’s lawyer, Matthew Schwartz of Boies Schiller Flexner, asked Abrams for a non-custodial sentence, arguing Archer has suffered enough.

He “has been subject to pretrial supervision for nearly seven years during which he has a spotless record of compliance, has lived an otherwise exemplary life, and has already suffered greatly due to the collateral consequences of his arrest, trial and conviction.”

No further punishment is warranted, because Archer, a former Abercrombie & Fitch model, has “watched his reputation and career systemically crumble” and he “and his family have been affected financially, and are currently severely cash-negative.”

Prosecutors gave short shrift to Archer crying poor, arguing that he “is living in a multimillion-dollar Brooklyn townhouse, and owns a second residence in the Hamptons, both of which have significant equity. He and his wife [Krista, a doctor] own investment assets worth more than several million dollars

“In short, while Archer may well be living beyond his current means, he is nonetheless living an indisputably privileged lifestyle and nothing about his finances warrants a reduction in sentence.”

It will be up to Abrams, an Obama appointee married to Mueller special counsel prosecutor Greg Andres, whether to show mercy to Archer, 48, on Monday.

She has been kind to him before, when she overturned his original conviction in November 2019, before her decision was reversed on appeal.

She also granted him permission while he was on bail to jet around the world to 24 destinations, from Jamaica and Turks & Caicos to China, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, places where he and Hunter had done business deals leveraging then-VP Joe Biden’s name.

But anything short of a custodial sentence will be seen as a political scandal, considering Archer’s close ties to the Bidens.

Hunter promised Archer in a 2019 text message that he is “part of a great family — not a sideshow, not deserted by them even in your darkest moments. That’s the way Bidens are different, and you are a Biden.”

But in a voice memo recorded the previous year and found on his abandoned laptop, Hunter was less sanguine about Archer’s legal troubles.

“My best friend in business, Devon, has named me as a witness, without telling me, in a criminal case,” he wails. “I’m talking about a f–king criminal case in which Devon has named me as a witness.”

Kerry: ‘I Hope President Putin Will Help Us to Stay on Track’ with ‘What We Need to Do for the Climate’

During an interview with the BBC released on Wednesday prior to Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry expressed concern that a war in Ukraine would have “massive emissions consequences” and divert attention from climate change and stated, “I hope President Putin will help us to stay on track with respect to what we need to do for the climate.”

Kerry said, “I’m very concerned about — I’m concerned about Ukraine. Because of the people of Ukraine and because of the principles that are at risk, in terms of international law and trying to change boundaries of international law by force. I thought we lived in a world that had said no to that kind of activity. And I hope diplomacy will win.”

He also stated that there would be “massive emissions consequences to the war,” and “equally importantly, you’re going to lose people’s focus, you’re going to lose, certainly, big country attention. Because they will be diverted, and I think it could have a damaging impact. So, I think, hopefully, President Putin would realize that, in the northern part of his country, they used to live on 66% of a nation that was over frozen land. Now, it’s thawing and his infrastructure is at risk, and the people of Russia are at risk. And so, I hope President Putin will help us to stay on track with respect to what we need to do for the climate.”

E.U. Responds to Russia’s Ukraine Aggression: ‘Harshest Package’ of Sanctions are Coming

The European Union (E.U.) sought to place itself in front of Russia’s territorial ambitions Thursday as it announced the “strongest, the harshest package” of sanctions to punish Moscow for the invasion of Ukraine.

No E.U. military action was promised to bolster the threats of sanctions and trade boycotts after the E.U.’s leading nation Germany only sent 5,000 helmets to Ukraine when they asked for military hardware and ammunition in the face of earlier Russian threats.

E.U. President Ursula von der Leyen released a statement in which she condemned Russia’s move as a “barbaric attack” accusing Russian President Vladimir Putin “of bringing war back to Europe.”

Leyen revealed the European Commission is assembling a “massive and targeted” package of sanctions for European leaders to approve, and if green-lighted “will weaken Russia’s economic base and its capacity to modernize.” She warned:

In these dark hours, the European Union stand by Ukraine and its people. We are facing an unprecedented act of aggression by the Russian leadership against a sovereign independent country… Russia’s target is not only Ukraine, the target is the stability in Europe and the whole of the international peace order, and we will hold President [Vladimir] Putin accountable for that.

Von der Layen clarified the sanctions will “target strategic sectors of Russia’s economy”, “freeze Russian assets in the E.U. and stop access of Russian banks to our financial market”, in an effort designed to to “take a heavy toll on the Kremlin’s ability to finance war”.

Vice-President of the European Commission and E.U. foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell also strongly condemned Russia stating that the current situation is “among the darkest hours for Europe since the end of World War Two”, and suggested that “this is not only the greatest violation of international law, it’s a violation of the basic principles of human co-existence”.

Hungarian Govt on Ukraine: ‘We Must Not Let the Left Drag Hungary Into This War’

The Hungarian government has weighed in on the Ukraine crisis, vowing that it will stand by NATO but resist efforts by “the Left” to “drag” the country into war.

“Hungary’s standpoint is clear, we stand by Ukraine, we stand by Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Today, and in the future, Hungary will be part of NATO decisions aimed at a joint response,” insisted Péter Szijjártó, the Hungarian minister for foreign affairs, in a statement shared on social media by government spokesman Zoltán Kovács.

Szijjártó added, however, that despite his government’s deep concern for Ukraine, “war is not a solution” to the crisis.

“Hungary must stay out of an armed conflict. The [Hungarian] left-wing’s proposal to send [Hungarian] soldiers and weapons to Ukraine is therefore hugely irresponsible. We must not let the Left drag Hungary into this war!” he declared.

The foreign minister was echoing a similar statement by Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orbán, publicised in English shortly before Russia’s Vladimir Putin launched his so-called “special military operation… to de-militarise and de-Nazify Ukraine”.

“Hungary must stay out of this conflict, this military conflict, because Hungary’s security is the most important interest,” Prime Minister Orbán had said.

“Accordingly, there can be no question of accepting left-wing proposals to send soldiers and weapons to Ukraine,” he continued, adding that Hungary would “play its part in the international efforts to restore peace” and that the army and police would in the meantime be preparing to deal with a potential influx of refugees.

Hungary’s stance on Ukraine marks a rare point of difference with Poland, its closest ally in the Visegrád Group of European Union member-states.

While the Hungarian government has dealt with Russia on what it sees as a pragmatic basis, recently negotiating a gas deal with President Putin to keep Hungarian energy bills among the lowest in Europe, Polish prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki responded to the Ukrainian attack by demanding the EU impose “the fiercest possible sanctions” on Moscow, warning that “Europe and the free world [have] to stop Putin.”

While both Hungary and Poland suffered under the yoke of the Russian-dominated Soviet Union during the Cold War, the Polish government’s more belligerent posture is believed by many to be due to the fact that the leader of the country’s governing Law and Justice Party, Jarosław Kaczyński, suspects the Kremlin was complicit in the Smolensk air disaster of 2010, in which his the late President Lech Kaczyński — his twin brother — was killed.

Hungary’s attitude towards conflict in Ukraine may also be coloured by the fact that its relations with the Ukrainian government are somewhat fractious due to the perceived mistreatment of the Hungarian minority in the country.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a TV address Thursday morning that the goal of Russia’s military operation was not to take control of Ukraine, but to “demilitarize” and “de-Nazify” the country. Moments after he spoke, explosions were heard in several Ukrainian cities.

The Russian Defense Ministry said these were “precision” attacks against Ukrainian military installations and that civilians were not being targeted. It said Ukraine’s air force on the ground and its air defenses had been destroyed.

The Ukrainian government, which declared a state of emergency and broke off diplomatic relations with Russia, said an invasion was underway and that Russia had landed forces at the port city of Odessa, on Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, as well as entering from Belarus in the north. It said it had killed 50 Russian troops and shot down six Russian fighter jets, which Russia denied.

Putin said one of the operation’s aims was to arrest certain people in Ukraine, likely the neo-Nazis who burned dozens of unarmed people alive in a building in Odessa in 2014. In his speech Monday,Putin said Moscow knows who they are. Russia said it aims to destroy neo-Nazi brigades, such as Right Sector and the Azov Battalion.

Putin said the aim was not to occupy Ukraine, but he gave no indication when Russia might leave. It could be over quickly if Russia’s objectives are met. But war has its own logic and often lays waste to military plans.

The BBC reported that according to Ukrainian authorities 50 civilians have been killed so far. President Joe Biden is certain how this will turn out.

“President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering,” Biden said Wednesday night. “Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way. The world will hold Russia accountable.”….

“The current climate faced by politicians and journalists in Mexico is the deadliest ever,” Cruz said. “In 2020, more journalist were killed in Mexico than in any other country in the world. It alone accounted for a third of the journalists killed.”

Cruz also stated that since September 2020, 80 politicians have been murdered and 60 candidates dropped out of their races under threats from organized crime.

“President Lopez Obrador seems intent on making all these trends worse,” Cruz said. “On Friday he used his morning press conference to intimidate one of Mexico’s highest-profile journalists, Carlos Loret De Mola. He waved around private financial information and asked authorities to investigate it. He seems to be indulging in abusing power.”

The Silence of American Hawks About Kiev’s Atrocities

The regime has repeatedly carried out artillery and air attacks on city centers, creating a humanitarian catastrophe—which is all but ignored by the US political-media establishment.

For months, the US-backed regime in Kiev has been committing atrocities against its own citizens in southeastern Ukraine, regions heavily populated by Russian-speaking Ukrainians and ethnic Russians. While victimizing a growing number of innocent people, including children, and degrading America’s reputation, these military assaults on cities, captured on video, are generating intense pressure in Russia on President Vladimir Putin to “save our compatriots.” Both the atrocities and the pressure on Putin have increased even more since July 1, when Kiev, after a brief cease-fire, intensified its artillery and air attacks on eastern cities defenseless against such weapons.

The reaction of the Obama administration—as well as the new cold-war hawks in Congress and in the establishment media—has been twofold: silence interrupted only by occasional statements excusing and thus encouraging more atrocities by Kiev. Very few Americans (notably, the scholar Gordon Hahn) have protested this shameful complicity. We may honorably disagree about the causes and resolution of the Ukrainian crisis, the worst US-Russian confrontation in decades, but not about deeds that have risen to the level of war crimes.

In mid-April, the new Kiev government, predominantly western Ukrainian in composition and outlook, declared an “anti-terrorist operation” against a growing political rebellion in the Southeast. At that time, the rebels were mostly mimicking the initial Maidan protests in Kiev in 2013—demonstrating, issuing defiant proclamations, occupying public buildings and erecting defensive barricades—before Maidan turned ragingly violent and, in February, overthrew Ukraine’s corrupt but legitimately elected president, Viktor Yanukovych. (The entire Maidan episode, it will be recalled, had Washington’s enthusiastic political, and perhaps more tangible, support.) Indeed, the precedent for seizing official buildings and demanding the allegiance of local authorities had been set even earlier, in January, in western Ukraine—by pro-Maidan, anti-Yanukovych protesters, some declaring “independence” from his government. Reports suggest that even now some cities in central and western Ukraine, regions almost entirely ignored by international media, are controlled by extreme nationalists, not Kiev.

In recent months, the US Air Force has issued calls for ethnic Russians to provide DNA samples for a mysterious “research” program. US Air Force Captain Beau Downey claimed that the samples were required for “locomotor studies to identify various biomarkers associated with trauma.”

Downey further stated,

The request (by the research centre) did not specify where the samples should be received from, but to continue the study, similar samples were required. Since the supplier originally provided samples from Russia, suitable for the initial group of diseases, the control group of the samples should also be of Russian origin.

The goal is the integrity of the study, not the origin (of the samples)”

However, given the fact that the US military has attempted to obtain Russian DNA samples without the permission of the Russian government and furthermore, given the low state of Russia-US relations, many are questioning whether the sought samples are intended to be part of a biogenetic weapons program.

Biogenetic weapons are defined as biological agents designed to inflict debilitating diseases or other internal bodily afflictions on a specific group of people, based on a shared genetic code.

While it is unclear if such a weapon has ever successfully been developed, the US and Israel have in the past, attempted to create such a devastating bio-genetic weapon.

In the late 1990s, it was reported that Israel had successfully created a biogenetic weapon which was specifically designed to target Arabs and only Arabs.

An archived press clipping from 1998 reports,

According to a Jerusalem Post report quoting the London-based Foreign Report, Israel has successfully developed what is being called an ‘ethnic-bullet’, which will target only Arabs. The report quotes an ‘unconfirmed report’ which originated in South Africa, which details how Israeli scientists have made a biological weapon tailor made to attack targets with the Arab genetic system. Long-term studies of Iraqi Jews was credited with providing the genetic code needed to target Arabs. According to the report, the ethnic-bullet program was originally developed for use in Apartheid South Africa for use against blacks. Scientist in both countries worked together towards the development of the Israeli program. Israeli officials declined to confirm the existence of the ‘ethnic bullet,’ but one told the newsletter: ‘We have a basket full of strategic surprises which we will not hesitate to use if we feel that the State of Israel is under serious threat”.

The popular US-based technology magazine Wired, also ran a story on Israel’s biogenetic weapons program in 1998. The story reads,

ISRAEL IS REPORTEDLY developing a biological weapon that would harm Arabs while leaving Jews unaffected, according to a report in London’s Sunday Times. The report, citing Israeli military and western intelligence sources, says that scientists are trying to identify distinctive genes carried by Arabs to create a genetically modified bacterium or virus.

The ‘ethno-bomb’ is reportedly Israel’s response to the threat that Iraq may be just weeks away from completing its own biological weapons.

The ‘ethno-bomb’ program is based at Israel’s Nes Tziyona research facility. Scientists are trying to use viruses and bacteria to alter DNA inside living cells and attack only those cells bearing Arabic genes.

The question is – why is it being done? It’s being done purposefully and professionally. We are a kind of object of great interest.

Let them do what they want, and we must do what we must”.

The latter part of Putin’s statement derives from the Melian Dialogue of the Athenian historian Thucydides. In his History of the Peloponnesian War, Thucydides recounts Athenian envoys trying to convince the small island of Melos to surrender its sovereignty or be destroyed. The dialogue includes a famous line which is usually translated as “The strong do as they will and the weak submit as they must”.

Putin, therefore, is suggesting that no matter what the U.S. has in store for Russia, the leadership of the Russian Federation is able and willing to take defensive matters in any scenario. The seemingly cautious statement from Putin is actually incredibly forceful when read carefully.

Based on past experiences, the US is not operating under innocent intentions and therefore, Russia should not take any chances.

Twitter admits it mistakenly removed Ukraine open source intelligence accounts

Twitter: We goofed up by suspending users tracking the conflict with Russia.

Twitter said it had mistakenly suspended the accounts of open source intelligence reporters posting about Russia’s military build-up around Ukraine, leading to many of them accusing the Russian state of launching a “bot” campaign against them.

Based on publicly available satellite imagery, open source reporters have used social media to supply a steady commentary on the activities of Russian forces near the Ukrainian border, providing a valuable alternative source of information to Western intelligence reports.

The people behind the suspended accounts said they believed they had been the target of an attack by Russian bots—computers that mimic the activity of human users—that had mass-reported their content as being suspicious. This led their content to be removed automatically by Twitter’s moderation technology.

“It is an attack on journalism and people who rely on these accounts to post the facts over other news outlets,” Kyle Glen, co-founder of @Conflicts, which has 337,000 followers, said.

“Twitter has… a responsibility to ensure its own reporting systems aren’t being misused by individuals or nations.”

Twitter told the Financial Times that there was no evidence of a coordinated bot campaign but admitted the company had taken action “in error,” suspending around a dozen accounts that had been flagged as containing manipulated or misleading media.

It said it was “expeditiously reviewing these actions” and had reinstated many of the affected accounts.

The suspensions took place at around the same time as several Ukrainian government websites and banks were temporarily shut down after a series of cyber attacks—Ukraine’s third since the beginning of the year. Kyiv has blamed the two prior attacks on Russia.

That the Twitter accounts were suspended almost simultaneously fed suspicions that a Russian operation may have been behind the moves. Russia often uses proxy groups in its cyber operations so it can deny knowledge of any attack, even though the groups are believed by Western officials and cyber experts to act for Moscow.

“A number of… individuals saw their accounts locked at exactly 11:51 UTC last night,” said @Osinttechnical, who has 83,000 followers and whose identity the FT has independently verified.

“The pattern of the account lockings indicates that the automatic features Twitter installed to handle account reports were triggered. In effect, a number of ‘people’ bombarded these accounts with reports at the same time, activating the Twitter blocks,” he added.

The Twitter account of Ukrainian civil activist Serhii Sternenko was also suspended.

Although open source intelligence has provided some startlingly detailed images of military movements, analysts say it only shows a fraction of what is going on. Their reports, often on Twitter, have independently corroborated the publicly released Western intelligence briefings and lent credibility to them.

“Western governments have learned a lot about the information warfare space… from [the] open intelligence space,” Sir Alex Younger, former head of the UK’s secret service, said.

“It’s been a much better performance this time round and one of the reasons why is that there has been open source [intelligence] to check on what they are saying, which has raised their credibility,” he told an FT forum on Wednesday.

Democratic Illinois State Sen. Thomas Cullerton resigned from office Wednesday as his lawyer tells a federal judge he plans to plead guilty to a 2019 indictment accusing him of almost 40 counts of embezzlement from a labor union.

Cullerton’s defense attorney says he plans to plead guilty to charges of accepting $274,066 to be involved in a ghost-payrolling scheme with former Teamsters boss John Coli, according to CBS 2.

Cullerton was accused of continuing his membership with Teamsters Local Union 734, which included salary and benefits, despite losing that eligibility after leaving his employment to become an Illinois state senator, according to the indictment.

Federal prosecutors said Cullerton knowingly conspired to “embezzle, steal, and unlawfully and willfully abstract and convert to his own use, the money, funds, property, and other assets of a labor organization, namely, Teamsters Joint Council 25,” according to the indictment.

Cullerton also allegedly used his do-nothing position with the Teamsters Joint Council 25 to leverage employee benefits from the Teamsters Local Union 734 Health and Welfare Fund and the union’s pension fund, the indictment stated.

Teamsters Joint Council 25 allegedly paid Cullerton around $188,320 in salary, allowances and bonuses, and other benefits like cellphone and car packages, according to the indictment.

Federal prosecutors also accused Cullerton of doing little to no work for the union but still receiving “approximately $64, 068 in health and welfare plan and pension plan contributions from Teamsters Joint Council 25 and its members; and approximately $21,678 in reimbursed medical claims from Teamsters Local Union 734’s Health and Welfare Fund.”

Cullerton was indicted on one count of conspiracy to embezzle from a labor union, 39 counts of embezzlement from a labor union, and one count of making false statements,” CBS reported.

Shortly after Cullerton resigned from his senate seat, Democratic Illinois Senate President Don Harmon released a statement acknowledging Cullerton’s “nearly decade” in office, according to CBS.

British bio-security expert claims Wuhan lab-leak theory 'accepted as likely behind closed doors' in government

The British government is taking steps to increase bio-security and protect against "natural zoonosis and laboratory leaks," Prime Minister Boris Johnson informed the House of Commons Tuesday.

Johnson's announcement comes as a British expert on chemical and biological counterterrorism involved with crafting the U.K.'s bio-security strategy claims most people within the government believe the lab-leak theory is the most likely explanation for the origins of COVID-19.

The Telegraph reports that the government has asked for evidence before drafting a new bio-security strategy, which will cover "accidental release and dual-use research of concern, where life science research is capable of being misapplied to do harm."

Former British Army officer Hamish de Bretton-Gordon is one person who has submitted evidence for the strategy.

He told the Telegraph that the "official view" within the government is that a lab leak "is as likely as anything else to have caused the pandemic."

"A lot of people like myself think it is more likely. I think attitudes have changed a little bit. The zoonotic transfer theory just didn’t make sense," he said.

Over the past two years, it has come to light that Chinese researchers in Wuhan had been collecting and performing risky experiments on dangerous bat coronaviruses with funding from U.S. taxpayers. On April 15, 1996, the sculptural composition, ‘To Those Who Saved the World’, was installed on the site and officially unveiled on April 26, 1996; the 10th anniversary of the disaster.

For over two decades, every year on the anniversary of the tragedy, hundreds of people have lined up near the monument, a siren has been sounded and people have laid flowers at its base. This has become a special, sacred place for those whose relatives died during the liquidation.

These days, you can find many photos near the monument, and it has even become an international symbol of the city of Chernobyl, where visitors stop to honour the dead and take photos in memory of the great tragedy of our time.

Minutes before Russian cruise missiles struck targets in eastern Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an urgent call to Donald J. Trump, saying his military had launched a “controlled assault” on “terrorist” targets within the Ukraine, said a Mar-a-Lago source speaking under promise of anonymity.

Putin told Trump that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the West would do everything in their power to paint his “specialized military action” as an imperialistic full-scale invasion.

He purportedly told Trump targets included “terrorist” bioweapons facilities, including an Israeli-funded biolab in eastern Ukraine that was researching how to create and weaponize “airborne rabies.”

“Putin spoke to Trump again Thursday morning,” our source said.

“Your media is lying. This is not an invasion,” Putin reportedly said to Trump.

The West’s theatricality, Putin said, could easily be proven. He said there is no visually verifiable evidence of “massive explosions” throughout the Ukraine or of massive amphibious landings in Odessa or Mariupol.

There is at least some evidence to support Putin’s claims. An on-air Fox News anchor wearing a helmet and flak vest was in Kiev giving a live update. Suddenly, he seemed shocked to hear and see what he called a “huge explosion” somewhere in Kiev. However, viewers neither heard nor saw an explosion. The cameraman never panned away from the correspondent.

“This is all deception, President Trump. You have your Deep State, I have to battle mine,” Putin told Trump. There is no occupation.”
