I think TPTB are trying to make "soulless" people, and they are trying to cheat death. They know the end for them will not be pleasant and they are tying to trick God. But it won't work. No one can "trick" the Creator of the Universe.

I was raised going to a Protestant church.
I don't know that I would be a Christian if I wasn't.
Maybe, I guess, God would have gotten thru to me in a different way, but here I am.
I have become disillusioned by organized religion though, and am taking a sabbatical away for the brick & mortar church buildings.
Maybe I will go back if I can find one that isn't run by 5 busybody mafia families who buy their own way and want everyone else to fall in line with their ideas.
One of the biggest things that has aggravated my is that they don't have Congregational singing anymore. They have "praise teams" which are basically "look at me" attention whore music snobs who have robbed the joy of singing from 9/10th of the Congregation. And the preachers let it happen. Instead of a worship service, they have a performance.
Jesus fulfilled all of the prophesies of the Old Testament. But the Pharisees rejected Him because He didn't fit their idea of what they thought the Messiah should be. They thought they knew better than God.
Even Jesus' Apostles were confused and Jesus had to set them straight.
