Technical problems: Two US stealth jets land at BER
At the capital’s airport BER there is a little excitement in the morning. Due to technical problems, two US fighter jets have to make an emergency landing in Berlin. A runway is closed.
Two US Air Force stealth jets have landed at Berlin Airport BER due to a technical problem. One of the two F-35 machines reported an air emergency, military sources said. The planes were parked and secured by military police.
Both US jets apparently took off from the US air force base in Spangdahlem in Rhineland-Palatinate, the “Bild” newspaper reported. They should have monitored the airspace over Poland for NATO. A BER spokesman told the Berlin “Tagesspiegel” that “the southern runway of BER has currently been closed by the federal police”. He didn’t know the exact background. “Flight operations are currently running on the northern runway. It is not affected.”
Because of the Russian attack on Ukraine, the US government has relocated the F-35 machines, which are largely undetectable to radar systems, to Europe to strengthen NATO.
