Sean Penn tests positive for COVID-19 after returning from Ukraine
Sean Penn has tested positive for COVID-19 as told by director Paul Thomas Anderson on Saturday, March 12. The actor-filmmaker recently returned from Ukraine where he was shooting a documentary. Following his return, Penn was scheduled to appear at the 2022 Directors Guild of America Awards and present an award to Anderson. However, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Penn chose to pass the event due to his COVID-19 diagnosis. Further according to the reports, director Paul Thomas Anderson who was supposed to receive an honour from Penn revealed the news of Penn testing positive for the virus while on stage to receive the award. Because of Penn's absence, the filmmaker-actor's ex-wife Leila George took charge and presented the award to Anderson. Penn was in Ukraine for shooting a documentary in the war-hit Ukraine. While his journey in the country, the actor also met with President Zelenskyy, spoke about his encounter and held the stance that he was impressed by the President and his courage. Additionally, Penn also shared a photo of himself on social media showing him walking barefoot towards the Poland border. "Myself & two colleagues walked miles to the Polish border after abandoning our car on the side of the road. Almost all the cars in this photo carry women & children only, most without any sign of luggage, and a car their only possession of value," his tweet on March 1 read.
