Update from WCME News:

The 77-year-old Topsham bus driver who suffered a medical emergency this morning has now died after being airlifted to Maine Medical Center. The man is identified as Arthur McDougall of Lisbon, and police say some alert students on an MSAD 75 school bus helped bring the bus to a stop after seeing the bus driver experiencing difficulty on Route 201 near the Cathance River.

Arthur's widow, Diane McDougall, thanks all the students, citizens and first responders who tried to save her husband's life.

The district will make counselors available Tuesday in all of its buildings to support grieving students and staff.

14 middle and high school students were aboard and at least two of the students assisted in steering the bus to the side of the road while applying the brakes. After the bus was stopped, a third student attempted to begin first aid while at least one student called 9-1-1 and others exited the bus and waived down passing traffic.

Meanwhile, Josh Brewer, a passerby, helped to put the bus in park.

Two police officers arrived at the scene and began CPR on the driver.

There were no other injuries.
