It's not the soul Gnrl Flynn, it's the Spirit! The soul is simply our breath life, which yes of course they've been trying to kill us all, but slowly so that they can also profit from our slow deaths. However, what they're really after is to make sure that we don't receive Holy Spirit! That's where we get Power from on High! From God! God's essence is Holy Spirit and we get that through Jesus Christ by believing on Him. (Romans 10:9&10) Getting saved and receiving Holy Spirit is what they have always through the centuries tried to squash!
But, God always WINS!!!
