In reality, Smollett staged the hate crime with the assistance of Nigerian brothers Ola and Abel Osundairo.

 

Last year, the former Empire star was convicted of five felony counts of disorderly conduct.

 

After two years of litigation, on March 10 Judge James Lin sentenced the race-baiting hoaxer to a light sentence, 150 days in jail, 30 months of probation, restitution of $120,106 and a $25,000 fine.

 

Despite the hate crimes Smollett committed, Cullors implored โ€œfolks to call the jail and check up on him, but also say that you think he should be freed.โ€

Biden Admin Begs Trump for Nuclear Command Codes

 

Multiple sources have told Real Raw News that representatives for Joseph R. Biden telephoned Mar-a-Lago to โ€œbegโ€ for the nationโ€™s nuclear command codes after similar requests to military โ€œWhite Hatโ€ commanders went unanswered.

That is because the U.S. military was given absolute authority when President Donald J. Trump signed the insurrection act when it became obvious that Biden had stolen the election.

In her last message to Gen. Bergerโ€™s office, on 12 March, Harris left a message: โ€œYou know, those codes are ours, not yours, and you need to give President Biden the codes right now or else. We must have those codes, so give them to us right now.โ€

 

โ€œHarrisโ€™s menacing, cackling laugh followed her words. Thereโ€™s something truly wrong with that woman,โ€ our source in Gen. Bergerโ€™s office said.

 

Dissatisfied with the militaryโ€™s response, Bidenโ€™s emissaries began hammering Trumpโ€™s Mar-a-Lago command team with an incessant barrage of calls, condemning him for unlawfully stealing the โ€˜footballโ€™ and the hardware needed to reprogram it. But none of the calls reached Trumpโ€™s ears. People such as Stephen K. Monica Cannon-Grant, 41, is also said to have paid herself $2,700-a-week and treated herself to a $450,000 five-bed house in Taunton, Massachusetts, last year.

 

She is accused of using much of the $1 million raised by her nonprofit Violence in Boston Inc for good causes. Her salary jumped from $25,000 in 2020 to $170,000 in 2021.

 

Cannon-Grant โ€“ once named a Bostonian of the Year by the prestigious Boston Globe newspaper โ€“ was arrested at her spacious home last week. She appeared in a federal court Monday alongside husband Clark Grant, 38, with the pair facing 18 separate criminal counts dating from 2017 to July 2021. She has denied all allegations made against her.

 

Judge Judith Dein raised eyebrows after releasing Cannon-Grant on her own recognizance and saying she could continue to work for Violence in Boston โ€“ the nonprofit sheโ€™s accused of using as a front for her crimes โ€“ but that she must not be involved in its finances.

 

The couple are said to have misappropriated grants intended for their charity, including a $6,000 check given to them by Suffolk District Attorneyโ€™s office in June 2019, intended to be spent on a retreat for young men feared to be at risk of falling into crime.

 

Instead, Cannon-Grant and Grant treated themselves to meals at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and Shake Shack, and a three night break to Maryland that included a $1,200 hotel stay, it is claimed.

European Regulators Tell Banks To Put Russian Accounts Under Surveillance, Even EU Residents

 

In the latest alarming story that has that disturbing whiff of WWII-era Japanese internment camps, some European banks are now surveilling all Russia and Belarusian clients to ensure they are not seeking to circumvent Western sanctions on Moscow.

 

What's more is that the order to intensively scrutinize transactions merely based on an ethnicity and nationality is coming down on orders from top EU regulators. According to Reuters, "The instructions from ECB [European Central Bank] supervisors mean tens of thousands of Russians and Belarusians resident in the EU face intense surveillance by their banks, which are on alert for big payments and deposits as well as new credit applications, said sources."

 

The heaviest concentration of Russians in the EU are in Germany - at over 230,000 - and with Spain following, at more than 81,000. A source quoted in Reuters said, "At first, the measures were focused on those of Russian nationality, whether they were residents or non-residents, and later it was extended to Belarusians."

 

Lest anyone think this is just run-of-the-mill sanctions enforcement on Russian nationals and particularly that it's all about oligarchs, there's this glaring admission in the exclusive Reuters report that even EU residents could be under watch on the mere basis of their national origin:

 

Some ECB supervisory teams, which include staff from the central bank and national authorities, have told banks to tighten control of EU residents too if they come from Russia or Belarus, said the sources, from banks and watchdogs.

 

This even though on paper the sanctions laws are supposed to exempt those holding temporary or permanent EU residence permits. The EU measures restrict Russian nationals or companies from making deposits above โ‚ฌ100,000.

 

Banks are further being told by the ECB to extra careful in reviewing loan applications from any Russian or Belarusian. Already, writes Reuters, Spain is applying mass additional surveillance of thousands of bank accounts on the mere basis of having Russian ethnicity.

 

"In one instance, a Spanish bank has put around 8,000 Russian clients who are not on the EU sanctions list and are residing in Spain under surveillance, said one of the sources," according to the report. What's more is that "All new lending to Russians who do not have Spanish residency has been halted and at least one bank will not allow non-resident Russians to open new accounts, they added."

British-Iranian prisoner released home after UK negotiates payment of $500 million to Iran

 

A British-Iranian woman held prisoner in Iran for nearly six years has been freed and is returning home to the United Kingdom after the U.K. government negotiated to pay a historic debt the Iranian government claimed was owed to the Islamic theocracy.

 

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a charity worker with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, was imprisoned in Iran in 2016 after the authoritarian regime accused her of being a spy and of plotting to overthrow the government. She and her family denied the charges, insisting she was on vacation with her daughter to visit family in Tehran.

 

Zaghari-Ratcliffe spent nearly five years in prison before she was released to house arrest in her parents' home, the Washington Post reports.

 

Iranian state media reported Wednesday that Zaghari-Ratcliffe and another dual national, Anousheh Ashouri, left the country after the U.K. government paid more than $500 million to Teharn, according to Reuters.

 

That money was part of a debt Iran's theocratic rulers claimed the British government owed after the shah of Iran purchased 1,750 Chieftain tanks and other weapons from the United Kingdom in the 1970s. But the U.K.'s International Military Services never delivered those weapons because the Islamic Revolution of 1979 toppled the U.S.-backed Shah. The order was canceled even though the previous Iranian government had paid in advance for it, and the Islamic regime that replaced the shah's government has since demanded the repayment of those funds.

 

Richard Ratcliffe, Nazanin's husband, who has tirelessly protested and advocated for his wife's release, had previously accused Iran of using his wife as a political hostage in the country's dispute over the debt.

 

U.K. Foreign Secretary Liz Truss confirmed in a statement Wednesday that "we have also settled the IMS debt" after announcing Zaghari-Ratcliffe's release.

 

The British government has denied that the two issues are related.

 

Earlier this year, however, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson did not deny there were efforts to negotiate Zaghari-Ratcliffe's release by settling the debt dispute with Iran.

 

On Feb. 9, British member of Parliament Tulip Siddiq said she had learned of a deal signed between the U.K. government and Iranian authorities in the summer of 2021 "that would have resulted in the payment of the ยฃ400m that we owe Iran and the release of my constituent Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe," but that deal had fallen through, according to Sky News.

Reading Ability of Children Far Lower than in Pre-COVID Times โ€“ Study

 

The reading ability of fourth-graders in Germany has dramatically dropped since pre-pandemic times, a study has found.

 

A study by researchers from TU Dortmund has found that German children in the fourth grade of primary school are far less capable of reading than their predecessors who passed through the grade pre-pandemic.

 

It comes amid a warning from UNICEF that children worldwide have suffered โ€œa nearly insurmountableโ€ loss of learning as a result of school closures during the Chinese Coronavirus pandemic.

 

According to a press release from the researchers, the study involved the administration of a standard reading test to fourth graders in over one hundred German schools in 2021, the results of which were compared to samples taken in 2016.

 

The results of this comparison are reportedly stark, with the number of children capable of a reading level rated from good to very good falling seven per cent since 2016.

 

Meanwhile, the number of children who have problems with reading comprehension increased by six per cent, to over a quarter of all students who took the test in 2021.

 

โ€œIf you express it in years of learning, the children are missing an average of half a year of learning,โ€ explained Dr. Ulrich Ludewig, who helped to lead the study. โ€œIf the change in the composition of the student body is taken into account, the gap while slightly smaller, the significant decline in mean reading ability remains.โ€

 

The researchers also warned that the results of the study likely mean that there has been a knock-on effect for the rest of the school system, with reading being an essential skill for most subjects.

 

This is not the first time education experts have sounded alarm bells regarding the effect pandemic school closures have had on children.

 

UNICEF has previously warned that the mass school closures across the world have led to a โ€œnearly insurmountable scale of loss to childrenโ€™s schoolingโ€, saying that children need โ€œintensive supportโ€ to get back on track with their educational and social development.

 

โ€œQuite simply, we are looking at a nearly insurmountable scale of loss to childrenโ€™s schooling,โ€ UNICEF education chief Robert Jenkins said.

 

โ€œStudents need intensive support to recover lost education. Schools must also go beyond places of learning to rebuild childrenโ€™s mental and physical health, social development and nutrition,โ€ he continued.

 

This sentiment was echoed by curriculum and assessment group Amplify, who reportedly found that over one in three kids in America who started their schooling during the pandemic require โ€œintensiveโ€ intervention to read at grade level.

 

The group claims that 37 per cent of kindergarteners are what they call โ€œat-risk readersโ€, who they judge to have only a 20 per cent chance of being able to attain the reading level expected of them by the end of their school year.

 

โ€œThe simple fact is that school shutdowns are much more harmful to children than COVID-19 is, and by once again closing down schools, weโ€™re blatantly ignoring this reality,โ€ said Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), urging US authorities to avoid further school closures back in January.

Biden administration blocks July 4 fireworks at Mount Rushmore for second year in a row

 

The Biden administration is preventing South Dakota from putting on a fireworks display at Mount Rushmore for the second year in a row, in a decision harshly criticized by Republican Gov. Kristi Noem.

 

In a March 14 letter, the National Park Service informed the South Dakota Department of Tourism that a request for a permit to put on the fireworks display was denied. "After careful consideration, the NPS has determined that we are unable to grant your request for this permit to hold a special event with fireworks at the Memorial," the letter stated.

 

"Based on the information provided in the application, we have determined that multiple such criteria are present for the requested event, each of which would be independently sufficient to deny the request for a permit."

 

The Park Service said concerns over wildfires and opposition from Native American tribes were the chief factors in its decision. The letter stated that "fireworks are viewed by multiple Tribes as an adverse effect to the traditional cultural landscape" and cited a Tribal Cultural Survey conducted in May 2021 that found there was "ample opposition from the Tribes" to the last fireworks display, which took pace in 2020.

 

NPS also said a fireworks event "poses threats to the environment and Memorial resources," citing increased levels of perchlorate โ€” a chemical compound used as an oxidizer in fireworks โ€” in the area after the 2020 display. As for the danger of a wildfire, NPS said "current drought conditions and the 2022 wildfire outlook" preclude hosting a fireworks event because it "would cause a high likelihood of a wildfire ignition."

 

This is the second time the Biden administration has shut down South Dakota's attempt to celebrate Independence Day at Mount Rushmore. The last fireworks celebration at the national landmark was held in 2020, with President Donald Trump in attendance. It was the first time such an event had been held since 2009, when the fireworks were canceled over wildfire concerns.

 

At the time, Democrats accused Trump of "holding a rally glorifying white supremacy at Mount Rushmore โ€” a region once sacred to tribal communities." Some Sioux leaders are opposed to the monument and have called for the sculptures of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln to be removed from the landscape.

 

Since coming to power, the Biden administration has twice sided with the tribal communities against the Noem administration's push to bring back the celebrations. After South Dakota's 2021 request to put on fireworks at Mount Rushmore was rejected by the Parks Service because of tribal objections and alleged safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the state launched a legal challenge to the agency's decision.

 

The ongoing litigation over the issue is currently before the United States Eighth Circuit Court.

 

In a statement, Gov. Noem blasted the NPS decision and accused President Joe Biden of hypocrisy.

 

โ€œMount Rushmore is the best place in America to celebrate our nationโ€™s birthday โ€“ I just wish President Biden could see that,โ€ Noem said. โ€œLast year, the President hypocritically held a fireworks celebration in Washington, D.C., while denying us our own event. This year, it looks like they are planning to do the same."

 

โ€œNPS announced this denial less than 24 hours after we reminded the court that this yearโ€™s permit application was still pending,โ€ she continued. โ€œMany of the reasons presented for their denial have been previously addressed, indicating that these reasons are not in good faith. We will move forward with our litigation and urge the court to help us come to a speedy resolution.โ€

Fauci says the GOP will target him if they get control of Congress: 'It's Benghazi hearings all over again'

 

Dr. Anthony Fauci has suggested that if Republicans take control of Congress, they will target him, but uncover nothing.

 

"It's Benghazi hearings all over again," Fauci said, according to the Washington Post. "They'll try to beat me up in public, and there'll be nothing there," he said. "But it will distract me from doing my job, the way it's doing right now."

 

Fauci, who has served as NIAID director for more than three decades, has been a prominent public health figure throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. He is also currently serving as the chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden.

 

Republican Sen. Rand Paul, who has been a vociferous critic of Fauci, proposed an amendment to nix the NIAID director position, but that proposal did not clear the Senate health panel on Tuesday, according to the Post.

 

Paul had proposed eliminating Fauci's role and replacing it with three directors who would helm three new institutes: A National Institute of Allergic Diseases, a National Institute of Infectious Diseases, and a National Institute of Immunologic Diseases.

 

"If we take over the Senate next year, I'll be chairman of the health committee, and I pledge to use the subpoena power to get every last record about the origin of the virus, about Fauci," Paul declared on "The Megyn Kelly Show" in December, according to the Post.

 

Fauci said that many Republican-led probes "are taking away from our effort of fighting this outbreak," and remarked that his agency's group of legislative staffers is "probably spending 40, 50 percent of their time" replying to requests regarding the origin of COVID-19 and other inquiries that he said are not rooted in facts. "It is just an overwhelming burden, asking for information thatโ€™s driven by conspiracy," he said, according to the Post.
