Biden Confirms Why the US Needed This War

In a moment of candor, Joe Biden has revealed why the U.S. needed the Russian invasion and why it needs it to continue, writes Joe Lauria.

The U.S. got its war in Ukraine. Without it, Washington could not attempt to destroy Russia’s economy, orchestrate worldwide condemnation and lead an insurgency to bleed Russia, all part of an attempt to bring down its government. Joe Biden has now left no doubt that it’s true.

The president of the United States has confirmed what Consortium News and others have been reporting since the beginnings of Russsiagate in 2016, that the ultimate U.S. aim is to overthrow the government of Vladimir Putin.

“For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power,” Biden said on Saturday at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. The White House and the State Dept. have been scrambling to explain away Biden’s remark.

But it is too late.

“The President’s point was that Putin cannot be allowed to exercise power over his neighbors or the region,” a White House official said. “He was not discussing Putin’s power in Russia, or regime change.”

On Sunday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “As you know, and as you have heard us say repeatedly, we do not have a strategy of regime change in Russia, or anywhere else, for that matter,” the last words inserted for comic relief.

Biden first gave the game away at his Feb. 24 White House press conference — the first day of the invasion. He was asked why he thought new sanctions would work when the earlier sanctions had not prevented Russia’s invasion. Biden said the sanctions were never designed to prevent Russia’s intervention but to punish it afterward. Therefore the U.S. needed Russia to invade.

“No one expected the sanctions to prevent anything from happening,” Biden said. “That has to sh- — this is going to take time. And we have to show resolve so he knows what’s coming and so the people of Russia know what he’s brought on them. That’s what this is all about.” It is all about the Russian people turning on Putin to overthrow him, which would explain Russia’s crackdown on anti-war protestors and the media.

It was no slip of the tongue. Biden repeated himself in Brussels on Thursday: “Let’s get something straight … I did not say that in fact the sanctions would deter him. Sanctions never deter. You keep talking about that. Sanctions never deter. The maintenance of sanctions — the maintenance of sanctions, the increasing the pain … we will sustain what we’re doing not just next month, the following month, but for the remainder of this entire year. That’s what will stop him.”

It was the second time that Biden confirmed that the purpose of the draconian U.S. sanctions on Russia was never to prevent the invasion of Ukraine, which the U.S. desperately needed to activate its plans, but to punish Russia and get its people to rise up against Putin and ultimately restore a Yeltsin-like puppet to Moscow. Without a cause those sanctions could never have been imposed. The cause was Russia’s invasion.

Regime Change in Moscow…

Once hidden in studies such as this 2019 RAND study, the desire to overthrow the government in Moscow is now out in the open.

One of the earliest threats came from Carl Gersham, the long-time director of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). Gershman, wrote in 2013, before the Kiev coup: “Ukraine is the biggest prize.” If it could be pulled away from Russia and into the West, then “Putin may find himself on the losing end not just in the near abroad but within Russia itself.”

David Ignatius wrote in The Washington Post in 1999 that the NED could now practice regime change out in the open, rather than covertly as the C.I.A. had done.

The RAND Corporation on March 18 then published an article titled, “If Regime Change Should Come to Moscow,” the U.S. should be ready for it. Michael McFaul, the hawkish former U.S. ambassador to Russia, has been calling for regime change in Russia for some time. He tried to finesse Biden’s words by tweeting:…

Hunter Biden’s Laptops Are Now An Active National Security Threat

An urgent concern for the country is the continuing threat to our national security posed by a compromised President Biden.

n Friday, The Daily Mail reported that emails recovered from Hunter Biden’s laptop show he helped an infectious disease research company pursue projects in Ukraine. Those emails confirm portions of charges Russia made the previous day that an investment group run by the now-president’s son had funded a company conducting research at biological laboratories in Ukraine.

While these developments add another scandal to the long list of Biden family dirty laundry, the more urgent concern for the country should be the continuing threat to our national security posed by a compromised President Biden and the possibility that Russia has access to the catalog of compromising material contained on Hunter’s laptop.

Mere weeks before then-President Donald Trump and Joe Biden faced off in the November 2020 presidential election, The New York Post published emails obtained from a laptop Hunter Biden had abandoned at a repair shop in Delaware. Those emails revealed that during the elder Biden’s time as Barack Obama’s vice president, Hunter engaged in a pay-to-play scandal, trading off his father’s position to strike deals with players in Ukraine and China. The venture was a family one, with Joe “the Big Guy” Biden listed in one email as set to receive a 10 percent cut of one pending deal and Hunter telling his daughter in another message that “pop” took half of his earnings.

Even after a former business partner of Hunter Biden’s confirmed the authenticity of the emails, the supposed standard-bearers of journalism buried the scandal and social media outlets censored both the story and The New York Post. Worse still, “more than 50 former senior intelligence officials” signed a letter framing the Hunter Biden emails as Russian disinformation.

Among others, former CIA directors or acting directors John Brennan, Leon Panetta, Gen. Michael Hayden, John McLaughlin, and Michael Morell signed the letter. In doing so they gave then-candidate Joe Biden cover to lie to the American public, which he did when Trump confronted him about the scandal during a presidential debate.

Are you saying the “laptop is now another Russia, Russia, Russia hoax?” Trump asked Biden.

“That’s exactly what [I] was told,” Biden countered. “There are 50 former national intelligence folks who said that what he’s accusing me of is a Russian plant,” Biden professed to the American public before they went to the polls and elected Biden our commander in chief.

But even The New York Times has finally admitted the laptop was real and the emails were legitimate. Initially, that admission proved significant because it likewise legitimizes the scandals spawned from the documents recovered from Hunter’s abandoned laptop. However, the trajectory of the scandal changed Friday with The Daily Mail’s exclusive.

“Emails from Hunter’s abandoned laptop show he helped secure millions of dollars of funding for Metabiota, a Department of Defense contractor specializing in research on pandemic-causing diseases that could be used as bioweapons,” The Daily Mail announced last week. The article continued: “[Biden] also introduced Metabiota to an allegedly corrupt Ukrainian gas firm, Burisma, for a ‘science project’ involving high biosecurity level labs in Ukraine. And although Metabiota is ostensibly a medical data company, its vice president emailed Hunter in 2014 describing how they could ‘assert Ukraine’s cultural and economic independence from Russia’– an unusual goal for a biotech firm.”

The Daily Mail added more details about Metabiota and Hunter Biden’s role in brokering relationships for the research company in Ukraine. Included throughout the article were copies of the emails ostensibly obtained from Hunter’s laptop that confirmed The Daily Mail’s reporting. The article also added details shedding light on Hunter’s “business” dealings in Ukraine during the time his father served as vice president and America’s point person on issues related to that country.

Friday’s exclusive is not the first time The Daily Mail has published never-before-seen material from Hunter Biden’s laptop. Last August, the outlet published “unearthed footage” of Hunter Biden telling a prostitute that, in the summer of 2018, another laptop went missing and he believed Russia had stolen it. At the time, Hunter also expressed concern that the laptop might prove fodder for blackmail since it contained compromising material.

What distinguishes the emails contained in last week’s Daily Mail article from those published last year is that the most recent release came the day after Russia’s State Duma speaker, Vyacheslav Volodin accused President Biden with being “involved in the creation of bio laboratories in Ukraine,” with Volodin claiming that “an investment fund run by his son Hunter Biden funded research and the implementation of the United States’ military biological program.”

Soon after Volodin made the charge on Thursday, the Telegraph called Russia’s accusation of Hunter Biden funding Ukrainian biological laboratories an “unsubstantiated claim” “designed to build on negative coverage about [the] president’s son in Right-wing US media.” But with Friday’s release of previously undisclosed emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop, Russia’s claim, at least concerning Hunter Biden’s connection to Ukrainian biological laboratories, appears accurate.

While none of the emails released on Friday support Russia’s claim that the Ukrainian labs were used to research or create bioweapons, propaganda need only hold a sliver of truth to serve its purpose. And the cache of emails contained on Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop provides Putin and his comrades enough evidence to seemingly confirm the Russian government’s earlier claim that Hunter Biden helped implement a bioweapon program in Ukraine. This false framing also provides Russia ammunition to justify its attack on its neighbor to the west.

Russia’s ability to point to the Hunter Biden emails as confirmation of its claims of a biolab in Ukraine raises a serious question with huge national security implications: How did Russia know the day before The Daily Mail’s exclusive that the Hunter Biden’s investment fund, Rosemont Seneca, had invested in Metabiota and been involved in Metabiota’s operations in Ukraine?

The timing of events last week suggests Russia has access to the same emails as The Daily Mail or that Vladimir Putin’s agents might well have obtained access to Hunter Biden’s first laptop—the one the president’s son believed Russians had stolen in 2018. In either case, the Biden family corruption documented on the laptops has gone from a potential national security risk to a real one—and in the midst of a war launched by Russia on a country bordering North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies.

Together, the Biden family, the intelligence agencies, and the corrupt media—social and legacy—hold full responsibility for the danger Americans now face. Biden knew full well how compromised his family was, and that there were two laptops, not one, with evidence of the corruption floating about. Yet Biden lied to the American public, with an assist from the former high-level members of the intelligence community who signed the letter suggesting the laptop scandal represented Russian disinformation.

Then there is the FBI which, by December 2019, had access to the abandoned laptop and thereby also knew that Hunter believed Russians had stolen his laptop in summer 2018. To date, there has been no indication that the FBI provided Joe Biden a defensive briefing on the national security risk posed by those laptops. Or if FBI agents did brief Biden on the risks in a timely manner, that means he nonetheless lied to the American public and ran for president knowing the propaganda at Putin’s fingertips.

Even when coupled with the complicity of former members of the intelligence community, all of Joe Biden’s lies would mean nothing if the media had done its job and reported the story when it still matter. It’s too late now, however: Biden is our commander in chief and Putin potentially holds a cache of compromising information perfect for propaganda purposes.

On March 1, Boris Johnson’s spokesperson said the sanctions on Russia “we are introducing, that large parts of the world are introducing, are to bring down the Putin regime.” No. 10 tried to walk that back but two days earlier James Heappey, minister for the armed forces, wrote in The Daily Telegraph:

“His failure must be complete; Ukrainian sovereignty must be restored, and the Russian people empowered to see how little he cares for them. In showing them that, Putin’s days as President will surely be numbered and so too will those of the kleptocratic elite that surround him. He’ll lose power and he won’t get to choose his successor.”

After the fall of the Soviet Union and throughout the 1990s Wall Street and the U.S. government dominated Boris Yeltsin’s Russia, asset-stripping former state-owned industries and impoverishing the Russian people. Putin came to power on New Year’s Eve 1999 and starting restoring Russia’s sovereignty. His 2007 Munich Security Conference speech, in which he blasted Washington’s aggressive unilateralism, alarmed the U.S., which clearly wants a Yeltsin-like figure to return. The 2014 U.S.-backed coup in Kiev was a first step. Russiagate was another.

Back in 2017, Consortium News saw Russiagate as a prelude to regime change in Moscow. That year I wrote:

“The Russia-gate story fits neatly into a geopolitical strategy that long predates the 2016 election. Since Wall Street and the U.S. government lost the dominant position in Russia that existed under the pliable President Boris Yeltsin, the strategy has been to put pressure on getting rid of Putin to restore a U.S. friendly leader in Moscow. There is substance to Russia’s concerns about American designs for ‘regime change’ in the Kremlin.

Moscow sees an aggressive America expanding NATO and putting 30,000 NATO troops on its borders; trying to overthrow a secular ally in Syria with terrorists who threaten Russia itself; backing a coup in Ukraine as a possible prelude to moves against Russia; and using American NGOs to foment unrest inside Russia before they were forced to register as foreign agents.”

The Invasion Was Necessary

The United States could have easily prevented Russia’s military action. It could have stopped Russia’s intervention in Ukraine’s civil war from happening by doing three things: forcing implementation of the 8-year old Minsk peace accords, dissolving extreme right Ukrainian militias and engaging Russia in serious negotiations about a new security architecture in Europe.

But it didn’t.

The U.S. can still end this war through serious diplomacy with Russia. But it won’t. Blinken has refused to speak with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Instead, Biden announced on March 16 another $800 million in military aid for Ukraine on the same day it was revealed Russia and Ukraine have been working on a 15-point peace plan. It has never been clearer that the U.S. wanted this war and wants it to continue.

NATO troops and missiles in Eastern Europe were evidently so vital to U.S. plans that it would not discuss removing them to stop Russia’s troops from crossing into Ukraine. Russia had threatened a “technical/military” response if NATO and the U.S. did not take seriously Russia’s security interests, presented in December in the form of treaty proposals.

The U.S. knew what would happen if it rejected those proposals calling for Ukraine not to join NATO, for missiles in Poland and Romania to be removed and NATO troops in Eastern Europe withdrawn. That’s why it started screaming about an invasion in December. The U.S. refused to move the missiles and provocatively sent even more NATO forces to Eastern Europe.

MSNBC ran an article on March 4, titled, “Russia’s Ukraine invasion may have been preventable: The U.S. refused to reconsider Ukraine’s NATO status as Putin threatened war. Experts say that was a huge mistake.” The article said:

Ukraine’s Spiritual Split From Russia Could Trigger a Global Schism

For Moscow, the crisis is geopolitical as well as religious.

“This is a victory of good over evil, light over darkness.” That’s how Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko described the announcement Thursday that the Orthodox Church’s Istanbul-based leader, Patriarch Bartholomew, will grant Ukraine’s Church independence from Russia.

In televised remarks, Ukraine’s president dubbed this a “historic event,” which it undoubtedly is: For more than three centuries, Ukraine and Russia have been religiously united within the Russian Orthodox Church. It was a union Poroshenko characterized this summer as a “direct threat to the national security of Ukraine,” given his view that the Russian Orthodox Church fully supports Kremlin policy; he said then that it was “absolutely necessary to cut off all the tentacles with which the aggressor country operates inside the body of our state.”

Now, four years after Russia annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, Ukraine is asserting its territorial independence by demanding its own national Church. For Russia, the crisis is geopolitical as well as spiritual. The stakes are so high that in order to protest Ukraine’s religious autonomy, Russia may respond harshly enough to trigger a deep schism in the Christian world.

At the core of this issue is a fundamental question of both religious and territorial identity, as Russian actions in eastern Ukraine aimed to undermine the country’s very independence. The Ukrainian Church had sought independence from the Russian one for decades, but it only became “inevitable after the Russian military excursion in eastern Ukraine, no question about it,” said Aristotle Papanikolaou, a co-chair of Orthodox Christian studies at Fordham University. Ukraine will join several other countries that have their own independent national Churches, among them Serbia, Greece, and Romania.

The Russian Church claims that Ukraine and its backers are the ones pushing the Church to the brink of catastrophe. A top Russian Church official said that by supporting Ukraine’s bid for an independent Church, Istanbul “threatens the global Orthodox world with a schism.” That schism would have an outsized effect on Russia: Severing ties between the Russian Church and its parishes in Ukraine would strip Moscow of a crucial component of its sphere of influence to its west. George Demacopoulos, the other chair of Orthodox Christian studies at Fordham, told me an independent Ukrainian Church would strip the Russian Church of a third of its jurisdiction, and Russia would “symbolically suffer a very big blow because they have been presenting themselves as the leaders of the Orthodox world in the 21st century.”

The Moscow Church “is frequently accused of being a tool of the Kremlin,” Katherine Younger, who directs the Ukraine in European Dialogue program at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, told me. She said she believes that’s why Poroshenko portrayed the issue of Church independence “as a matter of state security”— it’s “a way to weaken a major ideological interference and source of Russian propaganda.” Poroshenko’s apparent concerns have some basis in fact: The Russian hackers indicted by the U.S. special prosecutor in July have tried for years to access private correspondence from top Orthodox Church officials, according to an investigation by the Associated Press. And beginning with the 2014 invasion of Crimea, the Russian Orthodox Church—which is not technically affiliated with Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin—has been accused of spreading “misinformation” about Ukraine.

There are a few different ways Russia could react to Patriarch Bartholomew’s announcement. It could withhold recognition of Ukraine’s Church, which would be a purely symbolic statement of disapproval. Or, according to Demacopoulos, Russia might take “the nuclear option of breaking sacramental unity,” which means people who belong to Orthodox Churches aside from the Russian one could not receive communion while in Russia. That might not sound like much to outsiders, Papanikolaou said, but “it’s a pretty severe step.”

The fight over the Church goes back to a single event that took place more than 1,000 years ago. In 988, Vladimir the Great, the prince of an empire known as Kievan Rus (and Putin’s namesake), converted to Christianity in what is now Ukraine. Russia claims that empire as the birthplace of its historical heritage as a nation. But Ukraine does, too, and Ukraine is the country that actually has Kiev in its territory.

Satellite spots stranded container ship Ever Forward from space, a year after Suez's Ever Given

One year on, Ever Given's sister container ship gets stuck in shallow water on the other side of the globe.

Another cargo ship, another waterway, another embarrassing stranding for the Taiwan-based shipping company behind the weeklong blockage of the Suez Canal one year ago.

Satellites owned by the U.S. Earth observation company Maxar spotted a container ship that had been stuck for over two weeks in the shallow waters of the Chesapeake Bay near Baltimore, Maryland.

The 1,100-feet (330 meters) long Ever Forward is a smaller container ship owned by the same company as Ever Given, the ship that infamously blocked the Suez Canal for nearly a week in March 2021. Since the Suez Canal, an artificial waterway dug through Egypt in the mid-19th century, offers the shortest way from the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea and on to the Indian Ocean, that incident built up a solid traffic jam, which was visible from space, and caused serious disruptions to global trade.

Fortunately, Ever Forward is not causing such havoc. However, it seems to be giving rescue teams a similar headache.

The ship, operated by Taiwanese container transportation company Evergreen, was sailing to Norfolk, Virginia, from Baltimore, Maryland, when it ran aground in the Chesapeake on March 13, the New York Times reported.

The ship got stranded almost exactly a year after the Ever Given incident, prompting a wave of internet jokes.

"March is International Evergreen Marine Corp Container Ship Runs Aground Month," Twitter user Andy Mallon wrote, in a tweet highlighted by the New York Times. "What are you doing to celebrate?"

Dredgers can be seen working around the vessel in the Maxar satellite images, which were acquired on March 21 and released on Friday (March 25). Rescue work started on Thursday (March 24) and might take up to a week, shipping website Port Technology reported.

Ever Forward was not carrying dangerous materials, according to the New York Times, and no chemical spills have been reported.

"The ship's grounding has not prevented other ships from transiting into or out of the Port of Baltimore," William P. Doyle, executive director of the Maryland Port Administration, said in a statement obtained by the New York Times. "Business- and commerce-related activities at the Port of Baltimore continue as normal."

The cause of the incident is not yet known.

Ukraine has called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) not to open an office in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, located near its eastern border, so it doesn’t support what Kiev claims is the “abduction” and “forced deportation” of Ukrainians to Russia.

The ICRC, commenting on Kiev's appeal on Sunday, told Reuters it had no first-hand information about reports of forced evacuations to Russia from Ukraine and did not facilitate any such operations. It said it was planning to open an office in Rostov-on-Don to increase its ability to help those in need.

“Our priority is to reach victims of armed conflict, wherever they are, in order to assist them,” the ICRC said.

The decision to open an office in the city was taken by the charity following the visit to Russia of its president, Peter Maurer, from March 23 to 24.

In an open letter to the ICRC on March 26, the chair of the public health committee of Ukraine’s parliament, Mikhail Radutskiy, said his body “strongly opposes” the opening of the ICRC’s office in Rostov-on-Don.

“The Committee calls on the International Committee of the Red Cross not to legitimize ‘humanitarian corridors’ on the territory of the Russian Federation and not to support the abduction and forced deportation of Ukrainians. We call on you to change your decision on this issue,” the letter reads.

Moscow denies Kiev’s allegations, accusing Ukrainian forces of having obstructed those humanitarian corridors and used civilians as a human shield.

According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Kiev has consistently opposed the evacuation of Ukrainians to Russia and “forcibly pushed” refugees to the west.

Nonetheless, despite that opposition, since the launch of Russia’s “special military operation” on February 24, more than 400,000 people have been evacuated from Ukraine to Russia, according to the head of the Russian National Defense Management Center, Mikhail Mizintsev.

A Year After Suez Blockage, Another Evergreen Ship Is Mired in the Chesapeake

The Ever Forward ran aground after leaving Baltimore on Sunday, nearly a year after the Ever Given became lodged in the Suez Canal, disrupting global trade for nearly a week.

A container ship operated by the same company whose vessel blocked the Suez Canal last year, holding up billions of dollars in global trade for nearly a week, has been stuck in the Chesapeake Bay since Sunday night, according to officials in Maryland.

The 1,095-foot Ever Forward was on its way to Norfolk, Va., from Baltimore when it ran aground in the bay near the Craighill Channel, said Petty Officer Third Class Breanna Centeno, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Coast Guard.

A salvage team, Naval architects and divers were working to free the ship, William P. Doyle, executive director of the Maryland Port Administration, said in a statement. The Coast Guard is leading the salvage efforts, he said.

There were no injuries and no “pollution-related spills,” Mr. Doyle said. Petty Officer Centeno said the ship was not carrying hazardous materials.

The ship became stuck nearly a year after the Ever Given, one of the world’s largest container ships, ran aground in the Suez Canal on March 23, 2021, blocking a channel that is believed to handle about 10 percent of global commercial maritime traffic.

It took six days to free the ship and by then, 367 vessels were waiting to pass through the canal, which serves as a vital channel linking the factories of Asia to affluent customers in Europe, as well as a major conduit for oil. The episode was a disaster for the shipping industry, damming up worldwide shipping and freezing nearly $10 billion in trade a day.

The mishap involving the Ever Forward, which, like the Ever Given, is operated by Evergreen Marine Corp., appeared to be far less catastrophic, according to the authorities in Maryland.

“The ship’s grounding has not prevented other ships from transiting into or out of the Port of Baltimore,” Mr. Doyle said. “Business and commerce related activities at the Port of Baltimore continue as normal.”

Still, the ship ran aground at a time when global supply chains remain in upheaval because of the coronavirus pandemic. The timing also gave rise to a fresh round of jokes on the internet, which last year reveled in the Ever Given’s travails.

Evergreen Marine Corp. did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

The alert from the Ever Forward came in at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Petty Officer Centeno said. The ship had departed from Baltimore that day and was supposed to arrive in Virginia on Thursday, according to the vessel’s schedule.

The Coast Guard said it had not determined how the Ever Forward became stuck.

“Once the vessel is refloated,” Petty Officer Centeno said, “we’ll investigate the cause.”

A huge cargo ship got stuck in the Chesapeake Bay, almost a year after a sister ship blocked the Suez Canal, according to authorities.

The Ever Forward, a 1,095-foot container ship, got stuck Sunday night after leaving Baltimore, a spokesman for the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The vessel remained stuck in the bay Monday night while the Coast Guard assessed the situation, said Petty Officer 1st Class Stephen Lehmann, a spokesman for the Coast Guard’s Mid-Atlantic district.

It was not clear why the ship got stuck, but Lehmann said it was outside the normal shipping channel and posed no obvious threat to navigation.

It was still stuck Tuesday evening.

The vessel is owned by Evergreen Marine Corp., the shipping organization that also owns the Ever Given, the vessel that got stuck March 23 in the Suez Canal, choking the waterway and attracting worldwide attention.

A major concern in the assessment of the ship in the bay was to make sure that the vessel, if refloated, would remain seaworthy and pose no hazards, Lehmann said.

A naval mine has been detected in the Black Sea off the coast of northern Turkey, near the border with Bulgaria, the Turkish Defense Ministry announced on Monday.

A team of sappers from the Underwater Defense (SAS) has been deployed to the area not far from the port town of Igneada to deactivate the device, the ministry said on Twitter.

Turkey had already neutralized a stray mine near the Bosphorus strait on Saturday. It was described as an “old type,” which had been used by the Soviet military during World War II.

The discovery led to a brief halt in traffic along the Bosphorus, a key transport artery connecting the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. The Turkish authorities have also banned night-time fishing in the Black Sea.

Media reports at the weekend claimed that a second mine had been found and destroyed in the area.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) had earlier warned that a number of antique naval mines, which it says were planted by Ukraine along the Black Sea coast in the wake of the Russian military operation in the country, have detached from their anchors due to stormy weather and drifted away.

Kiev has disputed those claims, describing them as Russian disinformation serving as a pretext to close off parts of the sea.

Russia sent its troops into Ukraine over a month ago, following a seven-year standoff over Kiev’s failure to implement the terms of the Minsk agreements, and Russia’s eventual recognition of the Donbass republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. The German- and French-brokered protocols had been designed to regularize the status of those regions within the Ukrainian state.

President Joe Biden’s call for regime change in Russia could embolden Russian President Vladimir Putin to escalate war tensions with NATO.

On Monday, Western NATO allies France and Germany tamped down President Biden’s Saturday assertion that regime change is needed in Russia, a statement the White House immediately retracted. Nevertheless, world leaders felt the need to respond to Biden’s statement by suggesting his words “could make it harder to resolve the conflict,” the Associated Press reported.

French President Emanuel Macron feared Biden’s remarks could embolden Putin and escalate the Ukrainian war. Macron urged caution from the U.S.

“I wouldn’t use those terms, because I continue to speak to President Putin, because what do we want to do collectively?” Macron said. “We want to stop the war that Russia launched in Ukraine, without waging war and without escalation.”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also felt the need to comment on Biden’s remarks over fears that Biden’s loose talk could embolden Putin’s aggression toward Ukraine. “We both agree completely that regime change is not an object and aim of policy that we pursue together,” Scholz said in reference to a potential escalation.

Biden’s statement that Putin “cannot remain in power” was just one mistake he made during last week’s symbolic foreign mission to stabilize the region. Instead of projecting calm and steadiness, the AP noted Biden’s trip “created a troubling distraction, undermining his effectiveness as he returned home to face restive Americans who strongly disapprove of his performance on issues that matter most to them.”

On Thursday, during a news conference in Brussels, Biden promised he would respond “in kind” if Putin deployed chemical weapons against Ukrainians, meaning that Biden would potentially use chemical weapons against Russia. The White House walked back the statement the next day.

After that incident, Biden told the 82nd Airborne Division in Poland that they may be deployed to Ukraine, a statement that contradicted Biden’s promise not to send Americans to die for Ukrainian borders.

“Look at how they’re stepping up. And you’re going to see when you’re there [Ukraine],” Biden said. The White House immediately retracted Biden’s statement.

Recent NBC News polling revealed 71 percent of Americans have low confidence in Biden’s ability to deal with Russia’s invasionof Ukraine. In addition, last week’s polling by AP-NORC showed only 26 percent of Americans believe Biden can successfully manage the potential for escalation with Putin.

Country Music Singer Jeff Carson Dies of Heart Attack at 58

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Country music singer and songwriter Jeff Carson, who scored hits with “Not On Your Love,” and “The Car” before becoming a police officer, has died in Tennessee, his publicist said. Carson was 58.

Carson died of a heart attack at a hospital in Franklin, said Jeremy Westby of 2911 Media.

Carson’s career had 14 singles on the Billboard chart in his career, Westby said.

Carson retired from music to become a police officer in Franklin, where he remained on the police force.

Carson returned to music in 2019 and released a previously recorded song, “God Save The World.”

Carson had been in the studio with Buddy Hyatt recording an album to be released later this year with duets with Michael Ray, Darryl Worley and others, Westby said.

Singer Bryan White said on Twitter that he was saddened to hear of his friend’s death.

“He was a tremendous singer and one of the kindest people I’ve ever met … I’ll see you on the good side buddy,” White said.

On Twitter, the Franklin Police Department thanked Carson for his “life of service & song” and said Carson “changed everyone he met, all of us, for the better!”

“It’s hard to believe he’s gone,” the department said on Twitter.

Weapons originating from the Balkans are often seen in war zones including in the hands of terrorists in Syria and Yemen. Although local governments have always denied such exports documents prove otherwise.

Weapons from the Balkans have been used for years for illicit arms supplies to war zones around the world. Documents revealed that 350 diplomatic flights carried weapons to terrorists in Syria. Leaked documents also exposed a secret US Special Operations Command unit code named Task Force Smoking Gun. It had been deployed in Croatia since 2017 and tasked with diverting tons of arms and ammunition from Europe to Syria.

Yet, these 51 purported intelligence experts didn’t have any evidence to back up their assertions at the time – they were merely operating off a convenient hunch that happened to behoove the Biden campaign right before the election.

This letter they’d all signed on to was published on October 19th of 2020, a mere five days after the New York Post dropped the bombshell story on the laptop that has since been validated by a myriad of outlets – to include the New York Times.

Clearly, the massive cover-up and attempts to discredit a valid report by clamoring about Russia during an election year had some consequences.

Come March 27th, Grenell shared a screenshot of Sipher’s Twitter account, writing, “lol. He signed the letter saying Hunter’s laptop was Russian disinformation.”

Sipher’s response seemed smug in nature, as he replied to Grenell stating that he bears a sense of pride that his own breed of disinformation resulted in impacting the election in Biden’s favor.

Last March 4, 2022, the Washington State Tea Room, a monumental state-wide movement, attempted to serve Washington state officials with over 30,000 lawful affidavits from the Citizens of Washington demanding an end to all mandates and requesting a forensic audit of the 2020 election.

Speaking to the Gateway Pundit, the founder of WA State Tea Room, Brianna Mattes said, “this recent serving is the first of two in the first phase of our mission.”

Inslee’s office refused to accept service or sign for the documents as well as the AG Fergusons office, Jinkins’ office, Murray, and Cantwell’s offices. Only Lt. Governor Heck’s office signed for the documents and took service.

On March 24, Governor Inslee’s office and others took service with the second round of affidavits after failing to respond. Speaker of the house Laurie Jinkins, and Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell continue to refuse service.

“We have now officially served the Governor of WA State, Jay Inslee, the Lt Governor, Denny Heck, and our Attorney General, Bob Ferguson with both batches of signed and notarized documents, meant for them. The holdouts continue to be our Speaker of the House, Laurie Jinkins, our US senator, Patty Murray, and our junior US senator, Maria Cantwell. But after the ease of yesterday’s servings it is now becoming quite ludicrous that these 3 government employees are still refusing to be served and doing absolutely nothing to facilitate that, which is our constitutional right,” Washington State Tea Room Founder, Brianna Mattes told the Gateway Pundit.

“I hope further publicity will grease that wheel so that we can complete this phase of the process and move on to the phases to come. But that being said, we will not blink first on this. They will be served their documents, as it is the right of the people of WA to do so, or they will be shown refusing repeatedly, which comes with consequences. Because as elected officials they do not have the right to do that,” Mattes continued.

Maricopa County Supervisors Refuse To Attend Meeting After Arizona State Senate Issues New 2020 Election Subpoena

Arizona State Senator Kelly Townsend issued a new subpoena to the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors last week, commanding them to testify before the Senate Government Committee on Monday, March 28th at 4 pm.

The Supervisors were also commanded to produce the unfulfilled items that were recently requested by the Arizona Attorney General’s Election Integrity Unit on March 9th, 2022.

The Gateway Pundit reported that Maricopa County received a renewed request for information that was withheld from previous requests.

Last week, President Trump released a statement saying, “now is finally the time for the Arizona Attorney General to issue warrants and take his investigation to the next level.”

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich has done nothing to hold these criminals accountable.

Townsend’s subpoena requested the items withheld from Brnovich and testimony to “answer questions regarding the delay in fulfilling the Attorney General’s requests, dated March 9th, 2022.”

The subpoena states, “Upon receipt, the Senate Government Committee will immediately deliver the information to the Attorney General’s office under sealed and confidential transmission.”

The committee will also ask questions related to Dr. Shiva Ayyaduriai’s signature verification analysis which found over 200,000 ballots with signature issues that needed to be ‘cured’ but only 25,000 ‘cured’ ballots were reported in the 2020 Election results.

Maricopa County Chairman Bill Gates responded to this request stating that outside counsel will represent the County at tomorrow’s meeting. He also claimed that this subpoena was “not authorized or approved” by Senate President Karen Fann.

Arizona law authorizes the chairman of any legislative committee to issue a legal and enforceable subpoena. Senator Townsend is chairman of the Senate Government Committee.

Update(9:01ET): Russia on Monday has issued a firm and unyielding response to G-7 ministers who had dismissed as "unacceptable" its plan to only accept ruble payments for Russian gas going to "unfriendly" nations.

Earlier Monday German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said from Berlin that the Kremlin demand for natural gas contracts to be paid in rubles is a "one-sided and clear breach of contracts" - saying the contracts must be honored under prior conditions, according to Bloomberg. "That means that a payment in rubles is not acceptable and we urge the relevant companies not to comply with Putin’s demand," Habeck said. "Putin’s effort to drive a wedge between us is obvious but you can see that we won’t allow ourselves to be divided and the answer from the G-7 is clear: the contracts will be honored."

The Kremlin's quick shooting down of the German economy minister's comments and the G-7's stance on the ruble came Monday via a Russian lawmaker to state-run RIA Novosti: "Russian lawmaker Abramov says G7's refusal to pay in Russian roubles for gas will definitely lead to a halt in supplies."

Elsewhere the Kremlin said it's not running a "charity" - according to TASS:

Moscow is handling the details of its gas delivery plans to unfriendly countries for payment in rubles, but it won’t engage in charity if Europe refuses to pay in the Russian currency, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

…The Kremlin spokesman remained tight-lipped on what measures Russia might take if Europe refused to pay for gas in rubles, noting that these "issues should be sorted out as they develop." Access to Deutsche Welle outlet was blocked by Moscow in February

Germany’s state-sponsored broadcaster Deutsche Welle is now considered a “foreign agent” under Russian law after the Ministry of Justice in Moscow included it on the register on Monday.

“Following the requirements of the current legislation of the Russian Federation, the Russian Ministry of Justice included Deutsche Welle into the register of foreign media outlets acting as a foreign agent,” the ministry said in an official statement. It added that the decision had been made “on the basis of documents received from authorized state authorities.”

The branding of Deutsche Welle as a foreign agent will force the German media to put a corresponding disclaimer on all of its content. The decision also obliges the broadcaster to fully disclose information regarding its funding – and Russian authorities will now closely monitor DW’s activities in the country.

Director-General of Deutsche Welle Peter Limbourg commented on the decision on Monday, saying it was expected. Limbourg called it “another step to attack the freedom of the press and a new attempt to cut off the Russian population from free information.”

Last month, in retaliation for Berlin blocking Russia’s channel RT DE, the Kremlin imposed a ban on DW in Russia. The German channel was cut off from broadcasting on the territory of Europe’s largest country. All staff members at DW’s Russian office were stripped of their press credentials.

“Even though our website and most social media channels have been blocked by the Putin government in recent days, people in Russia can find a variety of ways to circumvent censorship,” Limbourg said.

Fort Hood Soldiers Sentenced in Texas Human Smuggling Operation

Two active-duty soldiers with the U.S. Army stationed at the Fort Hood base in Texas were ordered to federal prison on Friday for “conspiring to transport” undocumented immigrants within the state, U.S. Attorney Jennifer B. Lowery said in a statement

The soldiers, Isaiah Gore, 21, and Denerio Williams, 22, pleaded guilty in December 2021. They were given 30- and 24-month terms, respectively, and will have to serve three years of supervised release following their sentences, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.

An investigation found that Gore recruited people to pick up undocumented immigrants, and Williams and other co-conspirators served as drivers, who then took the immigrants elsewhere in Texas for money.

In June 2021, authorities caught soldiers wearing their U.S. Army uniforms while smuggling undocumented immigrants in the trunk of a vehicle at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in Hebbronville, Texas, bringing the operation to light, the release said.

U.S. District Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo on Friday noted that, as soldiers, Gore and Williams were “not the average citizen,” which justified a tougher sentence. She emphasized that everyone involved knew that wearing a uniform would help them evade detection or arrest.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Gore has been discharged from the Army. Both Gore and Williams remained out on bond and will be allowed to voluntarily surrender to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility “to be determined in the near future,” the release said.

Anthony Fauci: Americans Should Be Ready for Possibility of a ‘More Rigid Type of Restriction’

Dr. Anthony Fauci over the weekend said Americans need to be “flexible enough to pivot” back to a world with restrictions in place — “more rigid” restrictions, specifically — due to the Chinese coronavirus.

Fauci has used recent media appearances to warn Americans that while trends appear to be going in the right direction, they need to be prepared to bring back coronavirus-era restrictions if public health officials deem it necessary. President Biden’s medical adviser made the same remark during an appearance on BBC’s Sunday Morning program as well, warning that people must be prepared for “a more rigid type of restriction.”

However, he said he does not want to use the word “lockdown” as it is too controversial.

“I don’t want to use the word ‘lockdown’ as that has a charged element to it, but I believe that we must keep our eye on the pattern of what we’re seeing with infections right now,” Fauci said, adding that “we need to be prepared for the possibility that we would have another variant that would come along and then things change.”

“And if we do get a variance that does give us an uptick in cases and hospitalization, we should be prepared and flexible enough to pivot towards going back – at least temporarily – to a more rigid type of restrictions, such as requiring masks indoors,” he said, echoing the sentiments he has offered over the past months.

“You can go ahead and continue to tiptoe towards normality, which is what we’re doing, but at the same time, be aware that you may have to reverse,” Fauci said earlier this month.

Fauci’s remarks on Sunday Morning come days after Hawaii became the final state in the nation to official lift its indoor mask mandate.

He appeared to make another flip flop over the weekend as well, as the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director told WUSA9 that we have “actually gone beyond the pandemic phase and beyond the deceleration stage” in the pandemic, despite the fact that he said the world was just in the first phase of the pandemic mere months ago, in January 2022. Edgar Maddison Welch was sentenced to roughly 4 years in prison after he reportedly fired an AR-15 inside of Comet Pizza…

The judge presiding over the case? None other than Ketanji Brown Jackson—Biden’s SCOTUS nominee.

Normally, I wouldn’t even think to mention this. While many people suspect that Comet Ping-Pong is a staging ground for child sex trafficking operations no one yet has definitive proof.

Welch’s alleged actions were therefore just too much. If we had definite proof that Comet Pizza is 100% a front for child trafficking then it would be a different story…

So what’s the big deal?

None of this would matter if Jackson did not have a troubling history of leniency towards convicted pedophiles…

Welch’s lawyer asked for a reduced sentence of 18 months, as opposed to the 4 years that Jackson gave him.

Why is she so keen on showing leniency to convicted child predators, but not for someone who tried to remedy that problem—however flawed his methods may have been?

Which one is worse, a convicted pedophile distributing child pornography, or a potentially unstable man trying to root out what he sees as a high profile pedophile ring?

Welch may be wrong in what he did, and he may even be right in what he did, but no one can call him evil or a social sickness—the most we can say is that his actions were reckless.

Contrast this with the pedophiles Jackson is letting off easy, and we really have to wonder what her actual intentions are behind an ideological position revealed by her pattern of sentencing.
