121 arrests in operation against migrant smuggling and human trafficking – INTERPOL

Operation Storm Makers busts criminal networks profiting from the movement of vulnerable men, women and children across borders.

LYON, France – An INTERPOL-coordinated operation targeting migrant smuggling and human trafficking has triggered 121 arrests across 25 countries, prompting 193 new investigations.

Operation Storm Makers (21 – 25 March 2022) saw authorities carry out enforcement actions against organized crime groups believed to be facilitating the travel of Asian men, women and children across borders for exploitation and/or profit.

In total, authorities rescued 80 human trafficking victims and identified some 3,400 irregular migrants.

Operational coordination units were set up in Hanoi (Vietnam) and Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), helping assess intelligence and facilitating enforcement actions between participating countries.

Smart electronic gates, connected to INTERPOL’s databases, were activated at airports across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to boost passport checks and help detect forged documents.

Globally, some 15 million checks were carried out against INTERPOL’s databases at air, land and sea borders, generating ‘hits’ or alerts for fraudulent travel documents, as well as INTERPOL Notices against individuals wanted on various charges, including murder and fraud.

Organ trafficking, forced labour, sexual exploitation uncovered

In Turkey, police arrested four people, dismantling a suspected international organ trafficking ring. The criminal network, originating in India, is accused of targeting vulnerable Indonesian nationals and facilitating kidney transplants in Turkey. The suspects went as far as staging wedding photos and falsifying documents in order to establish fake family relationships between recipients and donors. With each kidney fetching USD 37,000 on the black market, the organ donor would receive USD 15,000, with the remainder split among members of the network.

Police in Malaysia and Cambodia worked closely on a case involving 15 men and one woman lured to Cambodia on the promise of a lucrative salary to work in a call centre. On arrival, however, they were locked up and forced to work 14-hour days as scammers. Authorities in both countries believe there are more victims of the criminal group and the ongoing investigation is being supported by INTERPOL’s Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants unit.

Another Russian tycoon has been found dead under mysterious circumstances.

Billionaire Alexander Subbotin, 43, a former top executive with Kremlin-friendly energy giant Lukoil, is the latest in a number of high profile, suspicious deaths since Vladimir Putin ordered his forces to invade Ukraine.

Vladislav Avayev: The Gazprombank vice-president, 51, was found dead in his penthouse Moscow apartment on April 18 alongside his wife Yelena and daughter Maria.

They were found by Avayev's eldest daughter Anastasia with a gun in the father's hand in the locked apartment.

Initial reports in Russia said Yelena was pregnant by their driver and Vladislav killed her in a fit of rage.

Others have doubted this and questioned why an FSB gun was found inside the flat.

Sergey Protosenya: The oligarch worth £350million was found dead in Spain with his wife Natalia and daughter Maria.

He was found hanged outside their Costa Brava villa while the two others were hacked to death inside.

But investigators found no blood on Sergey, no suicide note and no fingerprints on the weapon.

Sergey's son Fedor said his father would never harm his family.

Alexander Tyulakov: On February 25, the day after the Ukraine war started, the senior Gazprom official's body was discovered by his lover.

His neck was in a noose in his £500,000 home in a luxury Leningrad housing development.

Reports say he had been badly beaten shortly before he 'took his own life'.

Leonid Shulman: In the same gated housing estate three weeks earlier, the head of transport at Gazprom Invest was found dead with multiple stab wounds on his bathroom floor.

Investigators said a note was found but they have not released its contents.

A knife was found on the bathtub, seemingly out of reach.

The gold price has been “manipulated” by central bank authorities, in particular, the Federal Reserve for decades in a broader scheme to maintain U.S. dollar supremacy in the global monetary system, said mining and movie mogul Frank Giustra.

Giustra, who is the CEO of Fiore Group and also the founder of Lionsgate Entertainment, had in the past said that the price of gold was “managed” by central banks and bullion banks. Now, he is doubling down and saying that the price is “outright manipulated.”…

Due to the highly levered nature of the precious metals markets, gold is highly susceptible to spoofing, and other forms of trading manipulation, Giustra noted…

Giustra said that he believes the Federal Reserve is one of the key actors in orchestrating a larger price manipulation movement.

“I think [the Fed] is working with the bullion banks and I think that they don’t necessarily communicate directly with the bullion banks, they can do it through the BIS [Bank of International Settlements] and give them instructions to sell futures, and then that’s executed through the bullion banks,” he said.

Giustra concedes that the authorities behind this price manipulation have not left a clear trail of evidence for their actions.

“You’re never going to find a smoking gun on this. That’s the problem. I think, years from now in hindsight, we will have seen what they were up to, but they’re not going to leave you a smoking gun to find. There’s only circumstantial evidence. I just look at it from the trading perspective, I see what’s happening in trading and it doesn’t make any sense what’s going on,” he said.

Importantly, theFederal Reserve can’t keep manipulating and suppressing the gold price forever,Giustra said…

Once China releases a gold-backed central bank currency, the manipulation will likely fade and the price of gold will “see a new low,” he said.

Currently, countries around the world are engaged in what Giustra calls a financial war.

“The financial war between countries had already started. It was already simmering before this hot war in Ukraine and now it’s full on,” he said. “We’re in a global financial war. This is war. The sanctions were an act of war if you look at it from the perspective of being sanctioned. So, there’s a war taking place and the U.S. is fighting that war in any way that they can. The last thing that the U.S. need is a $3,000 gold price, because that’s just going to alert everybody that there’s a problem.”

All of this makes the current global monetary system unsustainable, and it is likely to see a hard reset, Giustra added…

DeSantis Signs Bill Requiring High Schools to Observe ‘Victims of Communism Day’

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Monday that requires “Victims of Communism Day” to be observed annually in public high schools across the state.

The bill, known as HB 395, requires public schools to tell students about genocides, famines, and persecutions under communist regimes, including the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the Soviet Union. The bill passed the Florida House and Senate unanimously earlier this year.

“We want to make sure that every year folks in Florida, but particularly our students, will learn about the evils of communism, the dictators that have led communist regimes, and the hundreds of millions of individuals who suffered and continue to suffer under the weight of this discredited ideology,” DeSantis said Monday morning.

The Victims of Communism organization has estimated that communist regimes have caused the deaths of at least 100 million people via political purges, religious persecutions, mass starvation, and other crimes against humanity during the 20th century. Chief among those regimes is the CCP, which is believed to have left around 80 million Chinese people dead.

“Over 100 years have passed since the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia and the formation of the first communist government under Vladimir Lenin, leading to decades of oppression and violence under communist regimes throughout the world,” the bill reads.

The bill also notes that “based on the economic philosophies of Karl Marx, communism has proven incompatible with the ideals of liberty, prosperity, and dignity of human life and has given rise to such infamous totalitarian dictators as Joseph Stalin, Vladimir Lenin, Mao Zedong, and Pol Pot.”

It is estimated by some historians that Mao’s regime may have killed upward of 80 million people between 1949 and his death in 1976 via the failures of the Great Leap Forward-triggered mass famine, the Cultural Revolution, various political purges, and other campaigns. Human rights groups and dissidents say that the CCP, which is officially atheist, are continuing Mao’s legacy by persecuting groups including the Falun Gong, Uyghurs, and Christians.

Last year, DeSantis told The Epoch Times the CCP—the largest communist party in the world—should be held responsible for how it handled and exacerbated the COVID-19 pandemic. Early on in the pandemic, Western governments blindly followed the CCP’s “zero-COVID” approach to the virus, he argued.

“The West did a lot of damage to itself by adopting some of these policies, which have proven to not work to stop the spread, but to be very economically destructive,” DeSantis said at the time.

Chechen Fighters Show Their Trophies, Thank Biden

Special forces from the Czech Republic deployed on the Donbass front lines shared several videos showing the shelters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces taken by the joint Russian, LPR forces in the town of Popasnaya in the Luhansk People’s Republic.

The head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov who is actively covering the work of Chechen units in Ukraine provided the following comments to the videos:

“Almost every house and every street here is littered with modern weapons, which the nationalists abandoned at the first threat.

Machine guns, javelins, dry rations and even Bandera food storages are now at our disposal. Thus, the vaunted assistance to the Ukrainian army, provided by the countries of Europe and America, ultimately benefits us.

The military of the Luhansk People’s Republic officially claimed control of the town of Popasnaya and the village of Nizhny on May 9. According to local reports, the mop up operation in Popasnaya was completed two days ago. The Ukrainian military confirmed the loss of Popasnaya on May 8.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces withdrew from their positions in the area of the town. Some clashes were reported in residential areas on the outskirts.

On May 9, the Russian Ministry of Defence reported that high-precision air-based missiles of the Russian Aerospace Forces destroyed two control points and a Ukrainian battery of multiple rocket launchers Grad in the area of Popasnaya settlement during the night.

After the Russian-led forces secured the town of Popasnaya, their advance towards a major transport hub in the city of Artemovsk should be expected.

China: ‘We Have Financial Nuclear Bombs if West Levies Russia-Style Sanctions’

Presently, the US State Department is making noises about punishing China for a number of present, and future, violations of the West’s self-styled lauded “Rules-based International Order.” US officials have warned President Xi Jinping of “what might come his way” should China provide any material support for Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine.

On top of this, should China make any moves towards Taiwan which Washington deems to be ‘aggressive’, then it’s certain that the US will enact some level of diplomatic and economic sanctions against Beijing. Just the idea that China could be hit with a similar sanctions package as Russia has the potential to nudge markets and western central banks in the direction of global turmoil.

However, the real question is still open: how will China react should the US and its client states decide to sanction the world’s second-largest economy?

Multiple analysts at Chinese state-linked think tanks and banks have weighed in on the Biden administration’s recent threats to punish the world’s second-largest economy over China’s refusal to condemn Russia’s war in Ukraine, and amid US charges that it could be helping Moscow evade sanctions, or even quietly resupplying Putin’s military machine (charges which at this point have remained without evidence).

“It is necessary to speed up the construction and external connection of the cross-border yuan clearing system CIPS … [But] the primary choice is to continue to strengthen cooperation with Swift,” Wang Yongli, a former vice-president with the Bank of China and a former board member for Swift, was cited as saying in a fresh South China Morning Post report this week.

However, China is taking note and studying its own preparedness and future options in the wake of the US drastic measure of freezing Russia’s central bank assets overseas.

On this, Yongli underscored to the SCMP that “The huge foreign exchange reserves are hard-won, and they are China’s‘financial nuclear bombs’ with a powerful deterrent effect. It must be used properly rather than arbitrarily, and cannot be easily slashed.”

Officials in Beijing are putting counterparts in Washington on notice – pointing out that “China is no Russia” given China’s immensely larger role in nearly every facet of the global economy. They’ve also said that any potential Taiwan reunification scenario with the mainland would not be like Russia-Ukraine, and yet it’s understood well due to the current crisis and the West’s anti-Russia sanctions constitute a “textbook warning for China”:

Adverse Reactions to COVID Vaccines I Have Come Across by a Midwestern Doctor

Note: I’ve tried to use very neutral language to describe these events, but this has been a very difficult process for me to watch. I’ve also taken out a lot of the additional emotional details shared with me by these individuals and the trauma they’ve experienced to shorten the piece. Additionally, many of the people I know and have guided through the process have access to options for mitigating these injuries, something most people don’t. I’ve read through various support groups, and in general found their experiences are typically worse than what I am describing here as they are not privileged to have access to ways to mitigate the harm.

Also, I appreciate all the subscribers I’ve received, and I value your time. So, I will do my best to only send notification emails out to you on posts I’ve enough work into that I feel need are worth your time to read.

Introduction

When the COVID vaccines were being developed, I felt the mRNA ones would be pushed through to open up the mRNA market (as Pharma has a dire need to develop new medications and the potential mRNA market is worth trillions), and necessary safety checks would be skipped to make sure mRNA vaccinations came into use. I was initially worried they would prolong the epidemic (as they would prevent people from developing proper immunity to the virus and encourage mutations of the virus) and I had a fear in the future they could lead to significant neurological, autoimmune, fertility and cancer related issues (for example a concerning letter had been published regarding potential effects on fertility). Once I was able to examine Pfizer’s trial, and observed the high rates of acute reactions they were willing to admit occurred (approximately 4x those of the influenza vaccine), I realized those potential issues were much more probable (especially as members of the trial in private groups reported adverse events that did not appear in the trial report) and I ruffled a lot of feathers as I told colleagues I knew to avoid them.

Succinctly, I (and others) felt there would likely be a significant number of people developing these chronic health issues, but the number would be small enough to sweep it under the rug. When parts of Pfizer’s IND application to the EMA (Europe’s FDA) were leaked there were numerous red flags that jumped out to me. The most notable was Pfizer being allowed to skip performing the normally required animal studies on Fertility, Genotoxicity (cancer potential), and Autoimmunity studies of their drug. I took this as a tacit admission Pfizer knew there would be very concerning results if these studies were conducted, so the best option they had was to never “do” them.

Before the vaccine rollout began, I also noticed that in addition to the full throttle promotion of the vaccine in the media, many outlets stated the vaccine may briefly make you feel awful, but not to worry about it. Given that I have never seen that message provided in the past for any other vaccine, this rang an alarm bell for me, and I had an expectation the vaccine would probably have a chronic side effect profile similar to Gardasil (which was previously regarded by many to the most harmful and unnecessary vaccine on the market).

The defence of our Motherland when its destiny was at stake has always been sacred. It was the feeling of true patriotism

May 9, 1945 has been enshrined in world history forever as a triumph of the united Soviet people, its cohesion and spiritual

power, an unparalleled feat on the front lines and on the home front.

Victory Day is intimately dear to all of us. There is no family in Russia that was not burnt by the Great Patriotic War.

Its memory never fades. On this day, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the heroes march in an

endless flow of the Immortal Regiment. They carry photos of their family members, the fallen soldiers who remained young

forever, and the veterans who are already gone.

We take pride in the unconquered courageous generation of the victors, we are proud of being their successors,

and it is our duty to preserve the memory of those who defeated Nazism and entrusted us with being vigilant and doing everything to thwart the horror of another global war.

Therefore, despite all controversies in international relations, Russia has always advocated the establishment of an equal

and indivisible security system which is critically needed for the entire international community.

Last December we proposed signing a treaty on security guarantees. Russia urged the West to hold an honest dialogue in

search for meaningful and compromising solutions, and to take account of each other’s interests.

All in vain. NATO countries did not want to heed us, which means they had totally different plans. And we saw it.

Another punitive operation in Donbass, an invasion of our historic lands, including Crimea, was openly in the making.

Kiev declared that it could attain nuclear weapons. The NATO bloc launched an active military build-up on the territories

adjacent to us.

Thus, an absolutely unacceptable threat to us was steadily being created right on our borders. There was every indication

that a clash with neo-Nazis and Banderites backed by the United States and their minions was unavoidable.

Let me repeat, we saw the military infrastructure being built up, hundreds of foreign advisors starting work, and regular supplies

of cutting-edge weaponry being delivered from NATO countries. The threat grew every day.

On Sunday, news broke that pro-choice protesters were marching to the family homes of Supreme Court justices Brett Kavanaugh and John Roberts in Maryland in protest of the recently leaked decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Almost instantly, opprobrium boiled over; not at the conservative justices for their proposal to effectively criminalize abortion in most of the U.S., but at the protesters for daring to show up at said justices’ houses to make their displeasure known.

It’s hard not to see a double standard here. I’m not condoning trespassing or any other illegal activity, but are we really criticizing pro-choice activists for having the audacity to show up at the homes of Supreme Court justices, when those same Supreme Court justices seem to feel perfectly comfortable making their presence known in our bedrooms, our marriages, and our doctor’s offices? What constitutes Kavanaugh’s right to privacy when he has all but deemed my right to a safe, easily accessible, and yes, private medical procedure illegal?

Protesting at a public figure’s family home isn't without its collateral damage, and while I do feel bad for Kavanaugh's children (we don’t choose our parents, after all), I also feel bad for Rosie Jimenez’s daughter, who was left without a mother when Jimenez died from an unsafe abortion in 1977, after the Hyde Amendment cut off Medicaid funding for safe medically-supervised abortions. I feel bad for the children of the woman known only as ‘Manuela’, who have to live with the knowledge that their mother was handcuffed to a hospital bed in El Salvador after a miscarriage. I feel bad for all the people who know and love Lizelle Herrera, arrested just last month in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley for “causing the death of an individual by self-induced abortion.” When you stack a peaceful protest in a Maryland suburb against all that human suffering, the contrast feels stark.

If you’re concerned about the effect that these protests would have on Kavanaugh’s neighbors, allow me to put your mind at ease. They’re the ones who organized the protest, driving home the point that the right to abortion isn’t theoretical or being questioned in some faraway place; abortion rights intimately affect the lives of your neighbors, your friends, your coworkers, and the people you build your life with. To take them away is to tell those very same people that your interpretation of the law matters more than their lived experience.

Of course, some are chiming in with calls for civility. (It’s worth noting that the protests were entirely peaceful, without any trespassing or destruction of property.) But it feels ironic that, to many, maintaining politeness supersedes the freedom of expression of a group of people having their right to autonomy over their own bodies forcibly taken from them. If Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault in 2018, didn’t enjoy the privilege of being unbothered in her home after going public with her story, why should he? For that matter, if people seeking abortions are regularly harassed and threatened on their way into clinics to obtain often lifesaving care, why shouldn’t the Supreme Court justices who choose to make their experiences even more difficult expect some minor level of inconvenience to their day?

Ultimately, the point of political protest isn’t to blend seamlessly into the background, or to take place at a convenient hour. The point is to disrupt the status quo—and that’s exactly what the pro-choice activists outside Kavanaugh’s house are doing. “I was known as the angriest man in the world, mainly because I discovered that anger got you further than being nice,” the late AIDS activist Larry Kramer was once quoted as saying, and he was (as ever) right—if there was ever a time for “nice” expression of dissent, it’s in the rearview mirror now. As the posters at the protests say, respect existence or expect resistance. Just don’t be surprised when that resistance makes your day-to-day life more difficult; that’s what it’s supposed to do, after all.

He was released on bail from Melbourne Remand Centre on Thursday after a magistrate ordered he undergo substance abuse treatment and avoid contact with her for two years. 'It's very very important that your path to rehabilitation will be a much more positive one and therefore you will be less of a risk to the community at large and in particular to your mother.'

Jethro's lawyer, Sean Ghattas, said he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and that affected his judgement.

Jody Lukoki: Former Ajax striker and Congolese international dies aged 29

Former Ajax footballer and Congolese international forward Jody Lukoki has died at the age of 29, according to a statement from his club, FC Twente.

"This morning, FC Twente received the terrible news that Jody Lukoki has passed," the Dutch club said on its website on Monday.

"The club is shocked and deeply struck by this tragic event. FC Twente sympathizes with his loved ones and wishes them strength in processing this huge loss."

The cause of his death was not confirmed.

Lukoki first joined Amsterdam side Ajax at the youth level in 2008 and eventually graduated to the first team in January 2011.

He won three Dutch league titles with the club over three successive seasons, before signing with PEC Zwolle in 2014.

A year later, he transferred to Ludogorets, where he spent five seasons and won three Bulgarian league titles.

After playing for Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor for one season, Lukoki returned to the Eredivisie with FC Twente.

He also played for the Netherlands national squad during his youth career, before making his debut for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in March 2015.

Ajax commemorated Lukoki on social media: "Our former player Jody Lukoki has passed away at the age of 29. Rest in Peace, Jody."

Fans also paid tribute to the striker on social media. "Wouldn't wish this on anyone. Sending lots of strength to his family. Rest in peace," one user posted on Twitter.

"29 years too young, strength to his relatives and everyone who knew him," another user tweeted.

The report, based on information from “a source familiar with conversations between the two,” said Morris forked over about $2 million to square things with the Internal Revenue Service and is also doling out dollars to support Hunter Biden’s luxury lifestyle in Los Angeles.

The Post report said Morris, who is also advising Hunter Biden about his art sales, has been dubbed Hunter Biden’s “sugar brother,” by Biden’s friends.

Hunter Biden had taken out a loan last year to pay his overdue taxes.

The Post was unable to get to the bottom of its source’s story because a visit to Morris’s house ended with the door slammed in their reporter’s face.

Morris is an entertainment attorney and novelist. He was a founding member of the firm Morris Yorn Barnes Levine in Los Angeles, which represents multiple celebrities, but is no longer with the firm.

Christopher Clark, Hunter Biden’s attorney for criminal issues, said Morris is an “attorney and trusted adviser” to Hunter Biden, according to CBS.

In its report, CBS said Morris is “crafting a legal and media strategy for Hunter Biden.”

Hunter Biden’s complex web of financial deals, including his tax issues, has been under investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Delaware. Victorian Coalition whip Bernie Finn steps down after controversial social media comments on abortion

Mr Finn rankled Coalition colleagues last week after making social media posts stating he is "praying" for abortion to be banned, telling a follower he was not supportive of abortion even in the case of sexual assault.

He made the comments in the wake of the revelation that the United States Supreme Court decision underpinning abortion rights, Roe v Wade, may be overturned.

Privately, some Liberal MPs were furious with Mr Finn, who has a history of inflammatory posts.

In a Tweet, Liberal Member for Brighton James Newbury dubbed Mr Finn's views as "deeply disturbing and dangerous".

Ms Williams said Mr Finn's recent comments on abortion showed an "appalling" lack of respect for women, and that the resignation was a move of self-preservation.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today puts into motion a plan which will trigger a procedural vote related to abortion on Wednesday.

To be clear: There WILL NOT be a vote on Wednesday on whether to codify Roe.

The vote which takes place is several steps removed from an actual up/down vote on passing a bill to make Roe the law of the land.

The vote on Wednesday will be a vote to end debate on the motion to actually begin debate on the bill.

Such a procedural vote to break a filibuster needs 60 yeas. It will fall well short. This is similar to a vote on February 28 which failed. That was a vote to overcome a filibuster just to start debate on a bill the House approved in September to codify Roe.

Tonight, Schumer will file “cloture” to end debate on the motion to proceed to the abortion related bill. By rule, a “cloture petition” (which ends debate) must lay over for an intervening day.

Thus, the vote to end debate on the filibuster to start debate on the bill “ripens” on Wednesday if Schumer files cloture today and Tuesday is the intervening day.

Expect abortion politics to dominate the week in the Senate.

One thing on which to focus: Pro-life Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA). Casey is the son of late Pennsylvania Gov. Bob Casey Sr. (D). The elder Casey is the “Casey” in the landmark 1992 Supreme Court decision Planned Parenthood v. Casey.

Gov. Casey signed abortion restrictions which were upheld by the High Court.

The senator is pro-life. But he voted yea on the motion to break the filibuster to start debate on the House-passed bill to codify Roe in February.

The Centres for Disease Control (CDC) is investigating whether an acute hepatitis virus that has killed five children in the U.S. and sickened dozens of others could be linked to pet dogs.

Health officials in the U.S. have identified 109 cases of the mysterious hepatitis virus, which affects the liver. The cases, which are concentrated in pre-school children, occurred over the past seven months in 24 states and Puerto Rico.

Around 90 percent of the children were hospitalized and 14 percent needed liver transplants, CDC Deputy Director for Infectious Diseases Jay Butler, told a press conference Friday. All were previously healthy.

Similar cases have been reported outside the U.S. The World Health Organization (WHO) said that as of May 1 it had recorded 228 probable cases in 20 countries, the majority of which are in Europe and the U.S.

A possible link between the unusual number of acute pediatric hepatitis cases and dogs originated with a report Friday from the U.K. Health Security Agency.

The U.K. has reported 163 cases of acute hepatitis in children as of May 3. The agency report said that its leading hypothesis is that the outbreak is linked with adenovirus, a common virus that usually causes mild cold or flu symptoms.

But the report also said it was looking at exposure to other environmental factors, and noted that review of its questionnaires found that it found relatively high numbers of dog-owning families among cases, totalling around 70 percent of cases where data was available. It acknowledged, however, that pet dog ownership is common in the U.K.

More than half of the U.S. cases also tested positive for adenovirus, Butler said, adding that the CDC is continuing to investigate all possible contributing factors, including exposure to dogs.

"We really are casting a broad net and keeping an open mind in terms of whether the adenovirus data might reflect an innocent bystander or whether there might be co-factors that are making the adenovirus infections manifest in a way that hasn't been commonly seen before," he said.

The risk of hepatitis in children remains low, health officials say. The main symptoms of illness are vomiting, dark urine, light stools and jaundice, in which the skin or the whites of the eyes turn yellow.

Aman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following the discovery of a one-year-old child who was covered in a flammable liquid.

Jamie Avery Jr, of Florida, faces a charge of attempted aggravated murder and is currently being held in jail in Seneca County, New York, according to ABC7.

Authorities in Seneca County said during a press conference that the 28-year-old allegedly set multiple fires at a truck stop in Tyre, in the northeastern part of New York state.

Police arrived at the Love truck stop and found a one-year-old dosed in a flammable liquid and another child, aged four, with a head injury, reported WPBF.

“It is alleged that the two suspects had poured a flammable liquid on the one-year-old child and attempted to light the child on fire inside the building,” said Lt Timothy Thompson.

“Luckily the two were unsuccessful,” the police spokesperson said, while adding that a “suspicious device” was located in the men’s bathroom, which turned out to be a “makeshift replica” of an explosive device.

According to WPBF, authorities believe the one-year-old and four-year-old are related to Mr Avery Jr, who remains in custody. He is also face charges of arson, reports say.

In an earlier statement, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said it was investigating “an incident that occurred” at the Love’s truck stop in Tyre, but did not give further details.

“This morning charges were filed against one suspect with another suspect pending,” the police said in that statement of Mr Avery Jr and another individual, who has not been named. “Charges include Attempted Aggravated Murder”.

Both children are expected to make a recovery and Mr Thompson was quoted as saying that the “Circumstances surrounding the four-year-old are still under investigation”. That child was found in a tractor trailer.

Reports say charges are expected against the second person.

It was not clear if Mr Avery Jr had a lawyer.

FACT FOCUS: Gaping holes in the claim of 2K ballot ‘mules’

Praised by former President Donald Trump as exposing “great election fraud,” the movie, called “2000 Mules,” paints an ominous picture suggesting Democrat-aligned ballot “mules” were supposedly paid to illegally collect and drop off ballots in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

But that’s based on faulty assumptions, anonymous accounts and improper analysis of cellphone location data, which is not precise enough to confirm that somebody deposited a ballot into a drop box, according to experts.

Plus, experts say cellphone location data, even at its most advanced, can only reliably track a smartphone within a few meters — not close enough to know whether someone actually dropped off a ballot or just walked or drove nearby.

Her unnamed experts apparently never checked their own phones’ accuracy. Just for the hell of it, I fired up my phone’s map app.

It showed me walking through my house, down the sidewalk, and finally onto the street. It showed when I stepped back onto the drive, and back to the house. These ain’t the Cold War days, hon, when GPS signal were deliberately degraded for civilians.

But that’s one anecdotal case; something Swenson clearly holds in disdain.

The FBI — and judges issuing probable cause warrants — found phone geolocation to be accurate enough to arrest at least 45 people for alleged January 6 participation.

The CDC found it phone geolocation to be accurate enough to use to determine if the sheep were complying with ChinCOVID lockdowns.

Law enforcement finds phone geolocation to be accurate enough to routinely use in thousands of criminal investigations.

Apple Air Tag geolocation is accurate enough to find lost car key, or track a robbery target to her home.

Geolocation is accurate enough that the DOD banned deployed service members from using FitBit or other wearable geolocation apps. (I love the app that publicly mapped a “secret” military installation.)

But Swenson carefully notes that even if the geolocation data is good, then it doesn’t necessarily mean the person tracked is the same person seen on video dumping handfuls of ballots. Even when that same person in seen at dumping at multiple boxes across a city — in the middle of the night — confluent with that same geolocated phone. Pure coincidence… dozens of times.

Swenson explains away the dumps of multiple ballots; That wasn’t harvesting, they were probably dropping off ballots for their families. Funny thing, in Georgia, you can only drop off ballots for immediate family members or members of your own household (not apartment building). The one video I saw of the gloved person dumping what looked like at least two dozen ballots? Just a really big family, I guess. Somewhat larger than the average 2.5 people per household; not 2.53 registered voters, 2.5 adults and children-not-eligible-to-vote.

Those gloves? No prob, Swenson declares. They were wearing gloves in Georgia because it was cold (Atlanta Fall rarely gets that cold), or because of the pandemic. Hint: the damned few Georgians that were glovvng up over ChinCOVID fears did it inside, not outdoors, except for a very few paranoiacs, mostly who wouldn’t leave the house anyway. (And if it was cold/pandemic, why did that person peel off the rubber gloves after dumping the ballots>)

I wonder: If little Ali had a stalker, and geolocation kept showing the same phone approaching her home, at the same time that her Ring camera coincidentally showed the same creep coming to her door… over and over and over… would she blow that off as “coincidence;” maybe just a UPS driver driving past on his regular route… at 3 AM?

The theory is so obviously silly that it hurts my head to even think about properly fact-checking it. It should not have to be explained why it’s implausible that scientists across the globe are working in tandem with the Democratic Party and the American media to invent new variants of a virus out of whole cloth with the specific aim of winning midterm elections for Democrats.

Covid variants are real, and not an invention of an American political party. The omicron variant, for example, was first discovered in South Africa. What’s more, it’s unclear how a new Covid variant that brings more death and dysfunction to the United States helps Democrats — the party currently in power.

That said, the conspiracy theory has persisted, and on Monday was endorsed by a top anchor at a cable news network.

Bartiromo based her claim on a Washington Post report that the Biden administration is preparing for a new wave of Covid in the fall and winter:

The Biden administration is warning the United States could see 100 million coronavirus infections and a potentially significant wave of deaths this fall and winter, driven by new omicron subvariants that have shown a remarkable ability to escape immunity.

The projection, made Friday by a senior administration official during a background briefing as the nation approaches a covid death toll of 1 million, is part of a broader push to boost the nation’s readiness and persuade lawmakers to appropriate billions of dollars to purchase a new tranche of vaccines, tests and therapeutics.

The Post did not report on the existence of a new variant. It noted that officials are anticipating a wave of 100 million infections, and that “projections assume that omicron and its subvariants will continue to dominate community spread.”

This is not the first time Bartiromo has suggested variants are liberal.

When fears of the delta variant began spreading in August 2021, Bartiromo said, “It’s all quite convenient with a year to go before the midterm elections.”

“It doesn’t appear the Democrats can win on policy so what are we going to do? Have a lockdown in the summer of 2022 so that we ensure mail-in ballots are flowing from empty parking lots and dead people?” she added.

Between that comment and today, roughly 400,000 more Americans are reported to have died from Covid.

The idea that new variants are introduced to help Democrats is not new to Fox News either.

In November, Fox & Friends Weekend host Rachel Campos-Duffy suggested Democrats are inventing new variants to distract from Pete Buttigieg’s performance as Transportation Secretary.

“And now we see these new variants. So that’s the answer, is more lockdowns, more lockdowns, more fear and therefore doesn’t have to do his job of fixing the supply chain because we’ll just keep this whole thing going,” she said.

“Always a new variant,” co-host Will Cain said, while Pete Hegseth added “you can count on a variant about every October, every two years.”

It was November 8, 2016, and I was walking out of Hillary Clinton's headquarters. I had been just 30 feet from the podium where I'd hoped to see her accept the presidency. Now, I was trying to come to grips with a Donald Trump America.

At the hotel, a Muslim woman walked into the elevator beside me. We made eye contact, and we burst into tears. Nothing needed to be said. The next day brought cold, colorless rain in New York. I told my husband I needed to quit my job and run for United States Congress.

I was not alone. In his farewell speech, President Obama said, “If you're disappointed by your elected officials, grab a clipboard, get some signatures, and run for office yourself.” More than twice as many women as usual ran for the 2018 elections. America was looking for a hero, and women stepped into the telephone booth and put on our capes.

There’s a common misconception about running for office. People think it’s dreadful, morally compromising work. But I’ve found the opposite is true. It made a better person and a better feminist. It forced me to take a hard look at my shortcomings.

Before I ran for office, I ran a game studio. There’s a common personality type to software developers—one I certainly fall into. We’re more comfortable staring at a screen than staring into someone’s eyes. Engineers can be brilliant in the workplace, and something less-than-brilliant everywhere else. If I was going to run for Congress, I knew I'd have to level up my people skills.

The first thing to go were the headphones, the social armor that was so safe and comforting. Instead of reading books on OpenGL, I found myself reading books on psychology and charisma. Maybe these skills come naturally to some people, but I had to study hard.

Did you know humans only have a single facial expression that signifies delight across gender and cultures? Raising our eyebrows in surprise. It seems silly, but when you meet someone and express delight to see them for a fraction of a second, it puts them at ease. The crow’s feet at the corners of my eyes used to embarrass me—but I learned that crinkle was the difference in a fake smile and a real smile. It was no longer a flaw, but a weapon for making friends.   

The strangest thing is, having to do this made me a happier person. When I saw someone walking their dog, I smiled. When I noticed kids playing a game, I smiled. In my 20s, cynicism had been my armor, and it was now a liability. In its place, openness and kindness had to take its place.

Here in New England, I got to know almost 100 other women that had decided to run for office, many through the Emerge program for training Democratic women. We were running for mayor, running for state senate, running for Congress. Like me, most of my peers were first-time candidates. We were starting to figure out this alien life of being a political candidate.

And I would love to tell you that we all won. In the movies, the underdog always wins. The Death Star always explodes. Carrie always walks into the sunset with Mr. Big. But reality has somewhat different odds than Hollywood. In a congressional race, the person spending less money wins only 9 percent of the time. You have less than 15 percent chance of beating an incumbent—and those odds are way worse if you’re running for the first time.

The rules of probability cannot bend, and many excellent women candidates lost this year. In California, volcanologist Jess Phoenix lost her bid for Congress. Former intelligence analyst Alexandra Chandler lost in Massachusetts as well as research administrator Sabrina Heisey. And always being one for good company, I lost my race too.

For a first-time candidate who raised under $200,000, I did a fantastic job. I got almost 25 percent of the electorate, with over 17,000 people voting for me. I sometimes try to imagine 1000 people telling me they believe in me enough to be their congresswoman, and it’s overwhelming. 17,000 people believing in you isn’t a loss, it’s an excellent start to a career. The guy I was running against has a 20-year head start.

Why did I lose? It’s a question I’ve had to ask myself honestly. The truth is, you cannot run a political campaign like a tech startup. Technology is a field that fetishizes disruption. The old ways are suspect, and we place an almost irrational trust on new tools. That’s fine for developing games, but it was a failing playbook for politics.

There’s no way to “disrupt” the shoe-leather work of shaking hands and listening to people. I was more comfortable in the digital world, but I needed to spend my time in the real one. As the candidate, I could hire someone to produce ads, but only I could raise the money to pay for them. I needed to spend more time raising money and more time spending it.   

I find all this energizing rather than discouraging. Running a campaign isn’t just more complicated than I expected, it’s delightfully more complicated. I come from engineering, and failure is an expected state. For 2020, I know what went wrong, and now I know how to fix it.  

And make no mistake, every woman that ran this year had successes that can be built upon. Now, I know organizers at every Democratic Town Committee. I know how to get on the ballot. I know how to file an FEC report. I know how to canvas neighborhoods.

If women are looking to replace men at the top levels of leadership, we can expect politics in all its glory, loss and heartbreak included. Careers are not built in a day. One political loss is not the end, and even wins are ephemeral. Creating an equal world for women was never going to be a one-election task.

Make no mistake. There are massive networks of women candidates forming, supporting and teaching each other. And these networks won’t disappear after a single election. Losing any single battle is not losing the war. Studies show if a first-time candidate loses, our odds skyrocket is we run a second time.

Perhaps the biggest lesson I’ve learned from running is that there are no perfect candidates in politics, just candidates. In this field, the only heroes are the ones that do not give up. I plan to persist.

The new Biden administration “Disinformation Governance Board,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told CNN, is a “small working group” to “address threats, the connectivity between threats and acts of violence” without “infringing on free speech” and while “protecting civil rights and civil liberties, the right to privacy.” The board has no “operational authority” of its own, Mayorkas said.

That might be true. But Mayorkas went on to say the Disinformation Governance Board is mandated to provide “best practices and communicate those best practices to the operators” in agencies that do have “operational authority.”

Never before has “disinformation governance” been part of the official U.S. government terminology for defending the internal security of the country.

“Disinformation” is not a word from the English language. It is a direct translation of the Russian word dezinformatsiya. It is a KGB form of tradecraft from the Red Banner Institute of the KGB First Chief Directorate, otherwise known as the KGB foreign spy academy.

Disinformation is definition 159 in the KGB’s “Lexicon of KGB Terms,” published internally by the Soviet foreign intelligence service before 1984. Disinformation is a component of active measures. Foreign “agent operational measures” make the defense against disinformation and active measures a counterintelligence function, not a homeland security one. DHS has no statutory counterintelligence authority. That authority, as well as the authority to combat foreign disinformation and propaganda, rests by law with the FBI.

Whether the FBI remains fit for this role is another matter. The point is that combating foreign disinformation domestically is counterintelligence, which by law is not a DHS responsibility.
