Hawkesbury mayor Patrick Conolly allegedly stabbed during home invasion

Hawkesbury mayor Patrick Conolly was stabbed during a robbery at his north-west Sydney home overnight, with the family car allegedly stolen in the incident.

Cr Conolly, 32, was at home in Bligh Park - near Windsor - with his wife and four children when a group of men broke in, police have been told.

Hawkesbury City Council has confirmed that Cr Conolly had been injured and was now recovering.

Police say a man was stabbed in the left arm after five to six men invaded his home on Porpoise Crescent.

The assailants stole personal items and fled in the family's white Skoda about 12:45am this morning.

"He was treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition," police said in a statement.

"Police have been told five to six men forced their way into the home and threatened the male occupant before he was stabbed.

"The men then left the scene in the family's white Skoda, taking a few personal items."

Police are now hunting for those responsible and have appealed to the public for information.

It is believed the incident was a case of mistaken identity.

In a statement, Hawkesbury City Council confirmed there was an invasion at Cr Conolly's house last night.

"The mayor was injured during the invasion but he has received treatment and his family [members] were uninjured," a council spokesperson said.

"The NSW Police Force is investigating the incident."

Christian middle school assignment about homosexuality prompts backlash

A homework assignment from a Christian middle school in Kentucky has received backlash across the internet.

What are the details?

The assignment — a letter to a homosexual friend — implores its hypothetically gay receiver to reconsider their sexuality.

The Christian Academy of Louisville encouraged students to write a letter to a fictional student who was "struggling with homosexuality."

A portion of the assignment shared on Twitter advised students to include the notion that "God's design for them is good" and that homosexuality is not the answer. The assignment also encouraged students to tell the fictional student "you love them even though you don't approve of their lifestyle.

"Assume that you have known this friend since kindergarten, that you go to the same church, and that you have been pretty good friends over the years until now," the assignment explained. "The aim of your letter should be to lovingly and compassionately speak truth to the person you're talking to in a way that does not approve of any sin. Instead, TRY TO PERSUADE THEM OF THE GOODNESS OF GOD'S DESIGN for them."

One social media user lambasted the assignment, writing, "I am not a doxxing/canceling advocate but am curious as to if limited to a single teacher and that teacher's ideology or endorsed by school. Private schools aren't immune from from [sic] legal action."

Nearly a Dozen Arrested in Indiana Child Sex Crimes Sting Operation

Detectives in Johnson County, Indiana, have arrested 11 men seeking sex with minors during a 3-day undercover joint sting operation that lasted from May 10 to May 12, according to multiple reports.

Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said in a press release that undercover agents set up fake online profiles on certain sexual websites to exchange messages with suspects while posing as underaged children, WPTA reported.

The fake accounts would very clearly state to the suspects that they are having a conversation with a minor, Burgess noted.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) said the latest operation was conducted in conjunction with the Franklin Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office. It was the third child sex solicitation sting operation conducted in Johnson County in the last two years.

“Parents need to be very vigilant in reviewing the sites that their children are visiting whether on their computers or mobile devices. We cannot be our child’s best friend all of the time,” Burgess said. “You must be diligent in this process in order to protect them from the evil that exists on these sites and social media.”

The JCSO on Monday released the identities of the suspects taken into custody as part of the sting operation.
