British health authorities say they have identified four “rare and unusual” cases of the disease monkeypox among men who appear to have been infected in London and had no history of travel to the West African countries where the smallpox-like disease is endemic.

LONDON (AP) — British health authorities say they have identified four “rare and unusual” cases of the disease monkeypox among men who appear to have been infected in London and had no history of travel to the African countries where the smallpox-like disease is endemic.

In a statement Monday, the U.K.’s Health Security Agency said an investigation had begun into how the men became infected and whether they had any links to each other. Three of the men are in London and one is in northeast England. All of the men identify as gay, bisexual or men who have sex with men.

Last week, Britain reported three earlier cases of monkeypox, including two people who lived in the same household and the other who had previously traveled to Nigeria, where the disease is endemic in animals.

“The evidence suggests that there may be transmission of the monkeypox virus in the community, spread by close contact,” said Dr Susan Hopkins, the Chief Medical Adviser for the U.K.'s Health Security Agency. “We are particularly urging men who are gay and bisexual to be aware of any unusual rashes or lesions and to contact a sexual health service without delay.”

Monkeypox is a viral disease usually spread by touching or getting bitten by infected wild animals like rats or squirrels in western and central Africa. The disease does not typically spread easily between people, but British health officials say it’s possible if there was extremely close contact with an infected person.

Pinecones have been associated with the pineal gland. The pineal gland has the shape of a pinecone and is located in the brain. The pineal gland regulates melatonin which helps with seasonal cycles. The pineal gland has been called the Third Eye as it is the intuitive center of the brain. Pinecones are often depicted at the top of a staff. The staff can represent the spine and the pinecone represents the pineal gland or the Third Eye.

Pinecones also symbolize fertility and sexuality. Pinecones were used as a fertility charm by Celts. They would place them under their pillows at night. Romans associated pinecones with the goddess of love, Venus.

In ancient Assyria, there are palace carvings that depict winged gods carrying pinecones. The pollen from the pinecones is being sprinkled on the Tree of Life.

Buffalo pizza shop closes after mass-shooting threat

A Buffalo pizza shop closed Sunday after a mass-shooting threat was made.

Joseph S. Chowaniec, 52, was arrested after allegedly calling Bocce Pizza and threatening to “shoot up Bocce’s like the Tops on Jefferson” while complaining about a pizza he had ordered, Buffalo Police said.

The store closed after the phone call.

Chowaniec was charged with making a terroristic threat, which carries a max seven-year sentence if convicted.

The district attorney’s office confirmed Chowaniec is also accused of making similar threats at Southern Tier Brewing Company, a taproom and restaurant. It’s unclear what measures the brewery took after the phone call.

“The defendant allegedly spoke with an employee and made a threat with the intent to intimidate or coerce that created a reasonable expectation of fear,” Erie County district attorney John Flynn said in a statement.

“This defendant is accused of making threatening phone calls to businesses and referencing this horrific shooting as the entire City of Buffalo is grieving this tragedy. This crime will not be tolerated—especially as we are actively investigating the Jefferson Avenue shooting as a domestic terrorism incident. Any threat will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Flynn said.

Chowaniec will return to court for a felony hearing on Friday.
