The time they stopped because of the smell was in a particular area. They found a large area of soft dirt elsewhere where they stopped after finding the knife, clothes, and airplane tickets. No reports of smell there, but it could be that they're older. The sole demand being made is that a law enforcement agency come out and investigate the new area.
