Federal judge orders Title 42 border policies be kept in place

May 20, 2022

"A federal judge in Louisiana has blocked the Biden administration’s decision to lift the Title 42 health order that has allowed border officials to expel tens of thousands of illegal immigrants — keeping the policy in place hours before it was set to expire.

US District Judge Robert Summerhays issued his ruling on Friday, one week after hearing arguments in an April lawsuit filed by 24 Republican state attorneys general who sought to keep the policy in place.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced last month that the policy would be lifted on May 23 – sparking fears among both Republican and Democratic lawmakers of an exponential increase in crossings along the southern border.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the US, Title 42 has allowed border officials to expel most migrants attempting to enter the US without hearing their asylum claims.

According to official estimates, more than 1.7 million migrants have been removed under the policy since it was implemented.

Summerhays, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, first issued a temporary restraining order in April to prevent Title 42 from being lifted before he made a ruling in the state AGs’ lawsuit.

The decision to lift Title 42 has been heavily criticized by officials in border states even as current migration levels soar with it in place.

In April, Customs and Border Protection reported a record high of 234,088 repeat and unique migrant encounters along the southern border – but only 97,000 were removed under Title 42.

If the order had been lifted, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejendro Mayorkas warned that as many as 18,000 could cross the border daily.

Despite concerns, the Biden administration repeatedly defended the decision to lift the policy, with former White House press secretary Jen Psaki calling on Congress to take action if they wanted the policy to remain in place.

Bumbling, stumbling mumbling Potato news- Still the GaffMaster

"Biden bungles South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s name "

May 20, 2022

"President Biden’s first trip to Asia got off to a rocky start Friday when he called South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol by his predecessor’s name at a Samsung microchip facility.

Biden quickly corrected himself after addressing Yoon as “Moon,” an apparent reference to former Korean President Moon Jae-in, whose five-year term ended earlier this month.

“Thank you all very much and President Moon — Yoon, thank you for everything you’ve done so far,” Biden said at the end of his remarks.

Yoon, standing next to Biden, did not visibly react to the gaffe, which seemed to be an ad-libbed conclusion to a speech that Biden read from a teleprompter. The American president had twice called Yoon by his correct name earlier in the speech.

In an ironic twist, the slip-up came almost exactly one year after Biden mistakenly referred to Moon as South Korea’s “prime minister” rather than “president” during a White House Medal of Honor ceremony honoring Korean War veteran Ralph Puckett Jr.

“The people of the Republic of Korea haven’t forgotten, as evidenced by the fact that the Prime Minister of Korea is here for this ceremony,” Biden said on March 21 of last year, referring to Moon."

The Resident turns 80 in November and Republicans routinely accuse him of being in mental decline, but he’s also had a decades-long propensity for gaffes and has attributed some of his speaking stumbles to a stutter that he overcame in childhood.

Biden struggled on multiple occasions with names this week.

On Monday, he referred to Buffalo mass shooting hero Aaron Salter Jr. — the grocery store guard and ex-cop who died trying to stop the massacre — by the surname “Slater.”

Biden struggled Tuesday to say “AANHPI” during remarks on Asian-American history month. The acronym recently replaced “AAPI” as the most politically correct way of referring to people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent by also incorporating the letters “NH” for Native Hawaiians.

The official White House transcript quoted Biden as saying, “AAN- — NH — PI — aye, aye, aye, aye, aye.”

On Thursday, Biden used two different pronunciations of Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson’s last name during Rose Garden remarks about Sweden and Finland’s applications to join NATO.

Last month, Biden said at an event with teachers in the White House East Room that he marks up drafts of his speeches to ensure he delivers them properly and compared his childhood stutter to British King George VI’s speaking impediment, detailed in the 2010 film “The King’s Speech.”

“The guy who wrote ‘The King’s Speech’ found the original speech and made a copy of it and sent it to me — no, I mean, from the movie. And he does his speeches exactly like I did,” Biden said, adding, “If you took a look at my speech, you’ll see that there’s all these slash marks in the speech.”

President Donald Trump campaigned against Biden in 2020 by nicknaming him “Sleepy Joe” and claiming he was mentally “shot.” That perception has carried into present-day domestic and even international politics. A Saudi TV station last month aired a comedy skit of a bumbling Biden mixing up names and falling asleep.

But Biden is hardly alone in flubbing names. Former President George W. Bush, 75, this week accidentally condemned the “wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq” — which he launched in 2003 — when he meant to say Ukraine. And Trump, also 75, this month mixed up the name of the Ohio Republican Senate candidate he endorsed, referring to his pick JD Vance as “JP, right? JD Mandel.”

"First U.S. Monkeypox Case Confirmed, with Gay Men Especially at Risk"

Health officials in Massachusetts have confirmed a single case of the monkeypox virus in a man who recently traveled to Canada. Recent outbreaks of the virus, which is endemic to central and western Africa but rare elsewhere, have occurred in the U.K., Spain, and Portugal. The unidentified adult male in Massachusetts is the first confirmed case of the virus in the U.S. this year.

“The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) today confirmed a single case of monkeypox virus infection in an adult male with recent travel to Canada,” the department said in a statement released Wednesday.

The department said they are working closely with the CDC and other relevant partners to conduct contact tracing and prevent the further spread of the virus.

While this is the first confirmed case this year in the U.S., outbreaks have occurred across Europe. The U.K. has reported nine cases of the monkeypox virus, with the first case occurring in a man who had recently traveled to Nigeria. Reuters reported Spain earlier today confirmed seven cases of the virus, while Portugal confirmed a total of 14 cases.

Gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men are particularly at risk, as evidenced by the recent outbreak in the U.K. which occurred amongst men in the LGBTQ+ community.

“The evidence suggests that there may be transmission of the monkeypox virus in the community, spread by close contact,” Dr. Susan Hopkins, Chief Medical Adviser at the U.K. Health Security Agency, said in a statement released Monday. “We are particularly urging men who are gay and bisexual to be aware of any unusual rashes or lesions and to contact a sexual health service without delay.”

Monkeypox is a zoonotic orthopoxvirus that appears similar to smallpox, although significantly less deadly. Most outbreaks in Europe and elsewhere in the Western Hemisphere are related to the exotic pet trade and international travel.

Initial symptoms of Monkeypox virus include fever, headache, myalgia, fatigue, and swelling of the lymph nodes. After one to two days, lesions may develop in first the mouth and later on the face and extremities like the palms and soles. The rash may further spread, and the number of lesions can range from just a few to thousands.

Despite its name, rodents are believed to be the natural reservoir for the Monkeypox virus. Infections have been observed in squirrels, rats, mice, monkeys, prairie dogs, and humans.

Health officials in Massachusetts stressed that transmission of the virus usually involves contact with an infected animal and that human transmission is extremely rare.

“The case poses no risk to the public, and the individual is hospitalized and in good condition,” they said in their statement."

Women doing men's jobs are taking it on the chin (and forehead)

On May 19, 2022 2 female "sideline reporters" got drilled in the face, Sage Steele with a golf ball & Kelsey Wingert took a 95 mph foul tip to the forehead.

"Golf writer Geoff Shackelford described an account from an eyewitness who “saw her on the ground, holding her nose, mouth or chin area,” with her hands “covered in blood.” A source told The Post she walked off under her own power.

Shackelford saw the Rahm shot — which traveled 281 yards at181 mph, per the ESPN broadcast — go awry.

“I was standing behind the tee when Rahm hit a hard hook into the left trees. He immediately yelled ‘Fore Left!’ and aggressively waved his arm pointing left,” he wrote. “The impact must have been brutal: Rahm’s tee shot ended up in the center of the fairway.”"
