In 1958, Preben von Magnus was the first to confirm the identity of the monkeypox virus and to describe monkeypox in laboratory. Monkeypox was found in crab-eating Macaques during two outbreaks of the disease in the summer and autumn of that year. A little more than thirty cases of monkeys with monkeypox were reported, more than fifty days after their arrival by ship from Singapore. There were no deaths and no monkey-to-human transmission. Not all the exposed monkeys exhibited the illness.

Von Magnus represented Denmark at the 1959 Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs where he explained that respiratory viruses such as influenza and the common cold were unsuitable as biological weapons.

 

In 1968, the WHO reported that it was not infrequent to observe outbreaks of suspected smallpox and monkeypox in laboratory monkeys at more than twenty-five biological institutions around the world and that further research was warranted to assess susceptibity in humans. It was not until 1970, more than ten years after von Magnus identified the virus, that monkeypox was first identified in humans.

REVIEW OF EARLY RESEARCH

It is notable that the first cases of monkey pox was first "discovered" in macaque monkeys, which have been commonly used in medical experiments. Macque monkeys are native to Southeast Asia.

 

Meanwhile the first human case of monkeypox was found in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1970. Almost 50 cases were reported between 1970 and 1979, with more than two thirds of these being from Zaire. The other cases originated from Liberia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone.

 

After the initial discovery of monkeypox, and first studies, by Preben von Magnus, monkeypox was observed in captive Asian monkeys being studied throughout Europe and the US, not in Africa.

WASHINGTON, DC โ€” Hillary Clinton personally authorized her campaign to share since-debunked computer data linking Donald Trump with a Russian bank, according to bombshell testimony from her 2016 campaign manager Friday.

 

Robby Mook, testifying as a witness in defense of former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann, told jurors that he discussed the matter with the Democratic nominee shortly before the that yearโ€™s presidential election.

 

Mook described his end of the conversation with Clinton as him telling her, โ€œHey, we have this and we want to share it with a reporter.โ€

 

โ€œShe agreed to that,โ€ he said.

 

The stunning disclosures are the first evidence showing Clinton was aware of allegations of a purported secret back channel between a Trump Organization server and Russiaโ€™s Alfa Bank โ€” before the theory emerged publicly eight days before the election.

 

Mook also acknowledged that the campaign hadnโ€™t verified the accuracy of the data at the time.

 

โ€œPart of the point of giving it to a reporter was they could run it down further,โ€ he said.

 

โ€œA reporter could vet the information and then decide to print it.โ€

 

Mook testified that he was first told about information purportedly showing a secret back channel between a Trump Organization server and Russiaโ€™s Alfa Bank by campaign general counsel Marc Elias. Mook added that he didnโ€™t recall where the data came from.

 

The campaign manager also said he discussed the matter with top aides John Podesta, Jake Sullivan and Jennifer Palmeri, apparently before going to Clinton.

 

Special counsel John Durham has alleged that Sussmann, the Clinton campaign and former tech executive Rodney Joffe took part in a โ€œjoint ventureโ€ to gather and spread the Alfa Bank data to smear Trump.

 

But in a pretrial ruling earlier this month, Washington, DC, federal Judge Christopher Cooper limited the amount of evidence Durham can present โ€œwith respect to an uncharged and unlawful joint venture,โ€ saying it could โ€œconfuse the jury and distract from the issues at hand.โ€

 

Sussmann, 57, is on trial on a single charge of lying to the FBI in September 2016 by denying that he was working on behalf of the campaign and Joffe when he turned over data and three โ€œwhite papersโ€ pitching the Trump-Alfa Bank claims to the bureauโ€™s then-general counsel.

 

Mookโ€™s testimony came during cross-examination by a member of special counsel Durhamโ€™s team and prompted Cooper to order the jury out of the courtroom so he could hold a sidebar discussion with both sides.

 

After the sidebar, Cooper announced that he might allow prosecutor Andrew DeFilippis to introduce into evidence a tweet posted by Clinton on Oct. 31, 2016, shortly after the left-wing Slate website published a report about the Alfa-Bank data.

A short time later, Cooper allowed the prosecution to introduce Clintonโ€™s tweet, except for the last sentence of Sullivanโ€™s statement, which read: โ€œWe can only assume that federal authorities will now explore this direct connection between Trump and Russia as part of their existing probe into Russiaโ€™s meddling in our elections.โ€

 

At the time, the FBI already had the Alfa Bank data, which was quickly dismissed by the agent who initially examined it, according to the G-manโ€™s own testimony Tuesday.

 

But Cooper said the jury hadnโ€™t yet been presented with evidence the Clinton campaign knew Sussmann gave the material to the feds, and he ruled Sullivanโ€™s assertion would โ€œunfairly suggest to the jury that that was the case.โ€

 

Mook said he didnโ€™t know the identity of the reporter who received the Alfa Bank data but assumed it was Franklin Foer, who wrote the Slate article.

 

On Wednesday, Laura Seago, a former analyst at the Fusion GPS firm โ€” which commissioned the infamous โ€œSteele dossierโ€ of scurrilous allegations against Trump โ€” testified that she was tasked with โ€œtranslatingโ€ the information so it could be understood by โ€œa lay audience.โ€

 

Seago recalled that she, Fusion co-founder Peter Fritsch and another Fusion worker went to Foerโ€™s house to pitch the data, telling him it had been vetted by โ€œhighly credible computer scientistsโ€ who โ€œseemed to think these allegations were credible.โ€

The trial underway for the hacktivist friend of Julian Assange matters.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation conducted a third party investigation in order to confirm the series of events.

 

Included in charges wrongly leveled against the activist are dangerously broad charges claiming the use of the theoretically decentralized Tor network to circumvent government censorship, indicates he is engaged in criminal activity; a legal precedent that could be widely abused to entrap any whistleblower attempting to circumvent censorship or tracking tools.

Human Rights Watch, an international organization dedicated to the preservation of basic human rights, has likewise reviewed the case material and found the charges spurious and designed to malign journalistic activities everywhere. Calling it a "dangerous escalation against digital rights defenders".

 

Yesterday, Ola Bini's trial reached a disturbingly odd moment when government prosecuters, short on actual evidence, declared that he was a criminal because he had a black hat on at the time, as though the fashion choice were a legal standpoint.

 

Such attacks against journalists, and the people who protect and defend the public's right to know are becoming all too common, and in the case of Ola Bini, not nearly enough people are even aware that such trials are underway.

But they are, and they affect your rights and liberties for decades to come, even if we are looking the other way.

 

This is one case, where speaking out matters.

Bini's computer equipment was seized during the arrest, under cover of the spurious charges, but beneath the lie being told was an attempt to gather evidence on Julian Assange, a close friend of Bini and current target of global intelligence agencies for his work in the publishing of the Afghan War Diaries, which contained extensive evidence of US War Crimes.

A University of Central Florida (UCF) professor who was fired after some tweets questioning certain Black Lives Matter narratives must be reinstated, with tenure, and receive back pay, an arbitrator has decided.

Charles Negy, an associate psychology professor, was the victim of a prolonged campaign by UCF to find a reason to fire him after he posted some tweets that angered activist students.

โ€œThe fact that a university would pursue a pretextual investigation with a foregone conclusion to fire a tenured professor because the professor does not conform to โ€˜diversity/equity/inclusionโ€™ (DEI) ideology is โ€” pretty disgusting in my opinion. University of Central Florida (UCF) investigated my entire 22 year career with them in search of something โ€” anything โ€” that they believed they could use to justify their firing of me,โ€ Negy said in a statement to Legal Insurrection.

The case went to an arbitrator because Negy is a union member, Cornell Law School Professor William Jacobson wrote at the outlet.

โ€œAt some point in 2020 a furor erupts over tweets from his twitter account, activity not related to his duties and also is protected free speech,โ€ arbitrator Ben Falcigno wrote in his Arbitration Award opinion on May 16. โ€œThere ensues a campaign by UCF to find out more about Dr. Negyโ€™s classroom performance as related by his students. UCF reaches out to previous students, gets a number of responses and determines that serious misconduct has been occurring for years, lamenting that no system for detecting such misconduct existed to alert management to such disrepute. And, the misconduct is of such magnitude that the only course of action is immediate termination.โ€

One deleted tweet from Negy in the summer of 2020, shortly after Minneapolis resident George Floyd was killed by police and riots erupted across the country, asked: โ€œIf Afr. Americans as a group, had the same behavioral profile as Asian Americans (on average, performing the best academically, having the highest income, committing the lowest crime, etc.), would we still be proclaiming โ€˜systematic racismโ€™ exists?โ€

In another deleted tweet, Negy said: โ€œBlack privilege is real: Besides affirm. action, special scholarships and other set asides, being shielded from legitimate criticism is a privilege. But as a group, theyโ€™re missing out on much needed feedback.โ€

Students saw the tweets and protested against Negy, with UCFโ€™s president participating. A Change.org petition was also created, gathering more than 30,000 signatures.

But for the 18 years Negy worked as a tenured professor prior to those tweets, he had received glowing annual evaluations and several awards, arbitrator Falcigno acknowledged. โ€œThere is no evidence that UCF gave him reason to believe he was anything but as highly esteemed as his evaluations and treatment, with no reason to perform differently.โ€

But after the tweets, UCF sought comments from previous students in order to find a reason to terminate Negy, Falcigno wrote. The university made no effort to give Negy a chance to correct his behavior before determining his behavior was โ€œunacceptable, was deleterious to students, and was dangerous,โ€ according to Michael Johnson, provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs at UCF.

Because of the way UCF handled the situation, Falcigno ruled that UCF must reinstate Negy, with tenure, and provide โ€œall compensation and benefits fully restored to that in effect as of the termination date.โ€

US District Judge Robert Summerhays issued his ruling on Friday, one week after hearing arguments in an April lawsuit filed by 24 Republican state attorneys general who sought to keep the policy in place.

 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced last month that the policy would be lifted on May 23 โ€“ sparking fears among both Republican and Democratic lawmakers of an exponential increase in crossings along the southern border.

 

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the US, Title 42 has allowed border officials to expel most migrants attempting to enter the US without hearing their asylum claims.

According to official estimates, more than 1.7 million migrants have been removed under the policy since it was implemented.

 

Summerhays, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, first issued a temporary restraining order in April to prevent Title 42 from being lifted before he made a ruling in the state AGsโ€™ lawsuit.

 

The decision to lift Title 42 has been heavily criticized by officials in border states even as current migration levels soar with it in place.

 

In April, Customs and Border Protection reported a record high of 234,088 repeat and unique migrant encounters along the southern border โ€“ but only 97,000 were removed under Title 42.

If the order had been lifted, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejendro Mayorkas warned that as many as 18,000 could cross the border daily.

 

Despite concerns, the Biden administration repeatedly defended the decision to lift the policy, with former White House press secretary Jen Psaki calling on Congress to take action if they wanted the policy to remain in place.

"President Bidenโ€™s first trip to Asia got off to a rocky start Friday when he called South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol by his predecessorโ€™s name at a Samsung microchip facility.

 

Biden quickly corrected himself after addressing Yoon as โ€œMoon,โ€ an apparent reference to former Korean President Moon Jae-in, whose five-year term ended earlier this month.

 

โ€œThank you all very much and President Moon โ€” Yoon, thank you for everything youโ€™ve done so far,โ€ Biden said at the end of his remarks.

 

Yoon, standing next to Biden, did not visibly react to the gaffe, which seemed to be an ad-libbed conclusion to a speech that Biden read from a teleprompter. The American president had twice called Yoon by his correct name earlier in the speech.

 

In an ironic twist, the slip-up came almost exactly one year after Biden mistakenly referred to Moon as South Koreaโ€™s โ€œprime ministerโ€ rather than โ€œpresidentโ€ during a White House Medal of Honor ceremony honoring Korean War veteran Ralph Puckett Jr.

 

โ€œThe people of the Republic of Korea havenโ€™t forgotten, as evidenced by the fact that the Prime Minister of Korea is here for this ceremony,โ€ Biden said on March 21 of last year, referring to Moon."

On Thursday, Biden used two different pronunciations of Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Anderssonโ€™s last name during Rose Garden remarks about Sweden and Finlandโ€™s applications to join NATO.

Last month, Biden said at an event with teachers in the White House East Room that he marks up drafts of his speeches to ensure he delivers them properly and compared his childhood stutter to British King George VIโ€™s speaking impediment, detailed in the 2010 film โ€œThe Kingโ€™s Speech.โ€

But Biden is hardly alone in flubbing names. Former President George W. Bush, 75, this week accidentally condemned the โ€œwholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraqโ€ โ€” which he launched in 2003 โ€” when he meant to say Ukraine. And Trump, also 75, this month mixed up the name of the Ohio Republican Senate candidate he endorsed, referring to his pick JD Vance as โ€œJP, right? JD Mandel.โ€

Scientists Just Captured The Flash of Light That Sparks When a Sperm Meets an Egg

For the first time ever, scientists have captured images of the flash of light that sparks at the very moment a human sperm cell makes contact with an egg.

 

The phenomenon has been observed in animals before, but no oneโ€™s ever seen the spark of human conception. And whatโ€™s even more incredible is the fact that some eggs burn brighter than others, which is a direct indication of their ability to develop into a healthy embryo, a team from Northwestern University found.

 

So why do sparks literally fly at the moment of conception? Back in 2011, the Northwestern team discovered that sparks of zinc exploded at the point of conception in mice.

 

It took them a few years to figure out how to image this event, but by 2014, theyโ€™d managed to film the event for the first time ever, and watched as billions of zinc atoms were released at the exact moment when a mammal's egg is pierced by a sperm cell.

 

Using a new fluorescent sensor that's able to track the movements of zinc in live cells, the team caught a glimpse of an eggโ€™s zinc-storage capabilities, and found some 8,000 zinc compartments, each one containing around 1 million zinc atoms, just ripe for exploding. The tiny 'fireworks' that result were found to last for about 2 hours after fertilisation.

 

Now, the same team has managed to film this event occurring in a human egg at the point of conception.

 

"It was remarkable," says one of the team, Teresa Woodruff. "We discovered the zinc spark just five years ago in the mouse, and to see the zinc radiate out in a burst from each human egg was breathtaking."

 

If you follow health science news closely, youโ€™ll know that the vast majority of studies - even the most promising ones - fail to live up to their potential. Maybe positive results in mice didnโ€™t translate in humans, or perhaps lab-based studies couldnโ€™t be replicated in living organisms. Maybe the researchers simply ran out of funding.

 

But in this case, we can actually see how quickly the team has progressed from mice to humans, and in the space of just five years, have figured out something that could change a lot of lives - the flashes of light that have now been seen in humans for the first time can be used to determine the viability of an individual egg.

 

For couples relying on IVF treatments, thatโ€™s huge, because around 50 percent of fertilised eggs do not develop properly due to some kind of unavoidable genetic mix-up.

For the experiment, the team used a sperm enzyme to activate the egg (fertilising the egg with actual sperm for research purposes is illegal under US federal law) and watched as the event triggered calcium levels to rise inside the egg, which prompted the release of zinc.

 

"As the zinc shoots out, it binds to small molecules which emit a fluorescence which can be picked up by camera microscopes," Sarah Knapton explains for The Telegraph.

The researchers found that eggs compartmentalise and distribute zinc to control the development of a healthy embryo - the mineral plays a vital role in controlling the 'decision' the egg makes to grow into an embryo - so the more zinc thatโ€™s released, the brighter the flash, and the more viable the egg.

 

"The egg first has to stockpile zinc and then must release some of the zinc to successfully navigate maturation, fertilisation, and the start of embryogenesis," said one of the team, Thomas Oโ€™Halloran, back in 2014. "But exactly how much zinc is involved in this remarkable process and where is it in the cell?"

 

This is hopefully a question the researchers are now equipped to answer, and we canโ€™t wait to see what they discover next.

Health officials in Massachusetts have confirmed a single case of the monkeypox virus in a man who recently traveled to Canada. Recent outbreaks of the virus, which is endemic to central and western Africa but rare elsewhere, have occurred in the U.K., Spain, and Portugal. The unidentified adult male in Massachusetts is the first confirmed case of the virus in the U.S. this year.

 

โ€œThe Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) today confirmed a single case of monkeypox virus infection in an adult male with recent travel to Canada,โ€ the department said in a statement released Wednesday.

 

The department said they are working closely with the CDC and other relevant partners to conduct contact tracing and prevent the further spread of the virus.

 

While this is the first confirmed case this year in the U.S., outbreaks have occurred across Europe. The U.K. has reported nine cases of the monkeypox virus, with the first case occurring in a man who had recently traveled to Nigeria. Reuters reported Spain earlier today confirmed seven cases of the virus, while Portugal confirmed a total of 14 cases.

 

Gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men are particularly at risk, as evidenced by the recent outbreak in the U.K. which occurred amongst men in the LGBTQ+ community.

 

โ€œThe evidence suggests that there may be transmission of the monkeypox virus in the community, spread by close contact,โ€ Dr. Susan Hopkins, Chief Medical Adviser at the U.K. Health Security Agency, said in a statement released Monday. โ€œWe are particularly urging men who are gay and bisexual to be aware of any unusual rashes or lesions and to contact a sexual health service without delay.โ€

Monkeypox is a zoonotic orthopoxvirus that appears similar to smallpox, although significantly less deadly. Most outbreaks in Europe and elsewhere in the Western Hemisphere are related to the exotic pet trade and international travel.

 

Initial symptoms of Monkeypox virus include fever, headache, myalgia, fatigue, and swelling of the lymph nodes. After one to two days, lesions may develop in first the mouth and later on the face and extremities like the palms and soles. The rash may further spread, and the number of lesions can range from just a few to thousands.

 

Despite its name, rodents are believed to be the natural reservoir for the Monkeypox virus. Infections have been observed in squirrels, rats, mice, monkeys, prairie dogs, and humans.

 

Health officials in Massachusetts stressed that transmission of the virus usually involves contact with an infected animal and that human transmission is extremely rare.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) โ€“ The final version of New York Stateโ€™s Congressional Map is set to be released Friday night between 8-9 p.m., according to the Steuben County Supreme Court.

 

The map was drawn by the court-appointed so-called Special Master named Jonathan Cervas after a Steuben County judge ruled the Democratic-drawn maps were gerrymandered.

 

A draft of the map was released Monday. The version released Friday night is not expected to look much different, according to local leaders.

 

If Cervasโ€™ map holds, the Southern Tier will be split. District 23 will only run from the southwestern part of the state through the eastern part of Chemung County.

 

โ€œFrom the beginning, Iโ€™ve advocated and encouraged other people to advocate for a rural, Southern Tier Finger Lakes district that is not tied in with big cities,โ€ Joe Sempolinski, a former staffer of the Steuben County Republican Committee, said. โ€œThatโ€™s what I hope we get in the map today.โ€

 

The map proposed by Cervas also cost the state one Democratic leaning seat and two Republican leaning seats. The state gained two โ€œhighly competitiveโ€ seats.

Seven arrested in sheriffโ€™s child sex sting

 

Five of seven from Isabella County, including three from Mt. Pleasant

 

Seven men โ€” five from Isabella County โ€” were arrested Thursday in a child sex sting in which local law enforcement officers pretended to be underage boys and girls.

 

The seven are accused of communicating with the decoys on various social media apps and arranging to meet up for sexual encounters, according to a press release from the Isabella County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

 

Once the men arrived at the location โ€” not identified in the press release โ€” they were arrested.

 

Five were arrested at the scene without incident, the press release said.

 

Two arrived at the location but attempted to leave. Police stopped one and arrested him without incident. The other attempted to flee and crashed into a parked, empty car. In addition to being arrested for crimes related to the sting, he was arrested for attempting to flee from police.

 

The seven, who havenโ€™t been formally charged, were identified in the press release as:

 

William Machuta, 32, of Mt. Pleasant;

Zachery Bell, 25, of Mt. Pleasant;

Cody Bunner, 22, of Mt. Pleasant;

Dwayne Overton, 21, of Union Township;

John Guernsey, 50, of Chippewa Township;

Brent Hulien, 34, of Standish; and,

Andrew Cousar, 29, of Grand Rapids.

 

The sting was the work of a task force of law enforcement agencies in Isabella, Mecosta, Montcalm, Newaygo and Osceola counties, the press release said. In addition, they were assisted by Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Michigan State Police analytics team, two regional drug agencies, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police, Mt. Pleasant city police, Central Michigan University police, Shepherd police and Isabella County Central Dispatch.

 

โ€œThe entire event takes several days to prepare and plan,โ€ said Sheriff Michael Main in the press release. โ€œThe day of the event runs for multiple hours involving over 30 law enforcement and support personnel.โ€

Undercover child sex sting sees 4 men arrested in St. Louis Park

The St. Louis Park Police Department says the operation involved undercover officers posing as minors to communicate with people looking to "buy sex."

The 38-year-old is being held in custody at Hennepin County Jail due to "his position of authority working with children." He's expected to be charged on Thursday.

 

The other three men have been released from custody pending charges.

 

The operation involved several agencies including police departments in St. Louis Park, Bloomington, Eden Prairie and Edina, as well as the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), Southwest Hennepin Drug Task Force, Minnesota Human Trafficking Investigators Task Force and Hennepin County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

What the Papacy offers on their altar is a sacrifice for sin,

demonstrating they do not believe Christ when He said,

It is finished,

effectively denying the Gospel.

This is what the Papacy means by "perpetual victim",

as their "christ's" sin offering has never ended.

This also effectively denies the resurrection,

since it is going backward to Calvary by perpetuating what the true Christ finished.

The Papacy teaches a damnable lie,

trampling upon the blood of Christ by returning to Calvary where their christ has never finished its offering.

Mumford, President of the Center for Research on Population and Security. This is the first time that it has been made available to the public. Because of his position and the length of his tenure, Professor Siegel is considered among the world's foremost authorities on the development of World Health Organization policy.

 

In this interview, he reveals the influence of the Vatican in shaping WHO policy, particularly in blocking adoption of the concept that overpopulation is a grave public-health threat a concept which, in WHO's early years, enjoyed a broad consensus among member countries. Without this separation of population dynamics from WHO public-health policy, the Vatican would have found it much more difficult to subsequently manipulate governments on such issues as family planning and abortion. National leaders would have been able to refer to the international consensus, as demonstrated by WHO policy. WHO, they could have insisted, has determined that family planning and abortion like clean water, good nutrition, and immunizations are necessary to protect public health. Professor Siegel decided to speak out on the subject. As he was involved in the WHO at an early stage, his personal experience provides ample evidence that the Vatican influenced WHO policy development from the outset, during the early period of the Interim Commission in 1946. In its 63-year history, this international health body has had a deplorable record in family planning. Its commitment has been minuscule, and even today family planning accounts for only a tiny fraction of its budget. Professor Siegel joined the World Health Organization in 1946, when it was still in its formative stages under the umbrella of the United Nations, created just the year before. Because of his earlier work in North America and the Middle East, he was asked, in effect, to be one of WHO's "founding fathers". So he came on board on the senior staff of the Interim Commission. Dr. Brock Chisholm of Canada was the Executive Director of the Commission, which set up the permanent organization with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Chisholm was chosen to be WHO's first Director General.
