BUCHANAN, NY — Emergency sirens at Indian Point will be tested this week, officials said.

The Indian Point Energy Center emergency notification sirens will sound during a test of the system between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday.
As part of the test, sirens will sound at full volume for about four minutes in Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties.
Officials said the public is not required to respond during the siren sounding because it's only a test.
In an actual emergency, the sirens would sound to alert the public to tune in to a local EAS radio or television station for important information. The stations are listed in the emergency planning booklet mailed to households and businesses in the 10-mile emergency planning zone around the plant.
An electronic version of the booklet is posted here.
IndianPoint Energy Center was home to three nuclear power plants in operation from 1962 to 2021. Holtec International bought the plant from Entergy Corp. in May 2021. Holtec said it plans to complete decommissioning activities sooner than if Entergy had continued to own the plant.
Indian Point Unit 3 was shut down April 30, 2021, after 45 years of generating electricity. Unit 2 was shut down in April 2020, and Unit 1 was permanently retired in 1974.
