One more post on Jeremy Sivits then I'm moving on. Here is the obituary of Jeremy's father, Daniel W. Sivits. Interesting military background, a Marine, then Army, then after serving two combat tours in Vietnam went on to be a member of the Navy Underwater Demolition Team (UDT). He was a frogman (in one of the last units before they started calling them the Navy SEALS). I believe the obituary should read UDT 11, and not II, since these units weren't normally designated with Roman numerals, and 11 was active in the Vietnam era.

It's not too hard to imagine that Damiel's son Jeremy might have wound up in military intelligence.

Jeremy was something of an achiever in high school himself, multi-sport athlete, sports captain, in city government, etc. Consider that and his father's military background, is that the kind of guy who might be recruited for military intelligence?

Actually, I think Jeremy might be the lynch pin on the whole Abu Ghraib fraud. He is, after all, the one who supposedly took the photos.

The decision by U.S. commanders to allow broad public access to Sivits' court-martial appears to reflect a conclusion that the abuse and the photographs have severely damaged the credibility of the U.S. enterprise in Iraq and around the Middle East.

At a briefing with a U.S. military lawyer, an Iraqi reporter demanded to know why Sivits was not being turned over to an Iraqi court.

"It will be a trial with a United States judge," the lawyer said.

The Iraqi reporter asked: "No Iraqi participation?"

"No," the attorney answered. "This is a United States military court- martial."

No superiors in the prison were charged. Maybe they weren't aware of what was going on? Only 7 low-ranking soldiers were tried and convicted. I'm sure none of them even went to Leavenworth.

Would Jeremy be the kind of noodle-head who would casually stand by and participate in prisoner abuse? Would someone with his background take photographs of his comrades as they abused prisoners of war, and then leak the photos out to the media?

Abu Ghraib was an intelligence operation and a hoax, for the purposes discussed previously. Most importantly, why would they publish his obituary with a photo of him wearing a sombrero?

Word “sombrero” comes from Spanish “sombra” which means “shade” or “ shadow” which explains the main purpose of a Mexican sombrero hat - protection from sun and other natural elements.
